We live in a world where lies, pain, fear, discouragement, injustice, hatred, and other forms of negativity is always present. There are times(mostly), negativity is stronger than positivity. With this, we forget to appreciate or acknowledge someone who encourage, inspire and share goodness to others.
For example(dire sa latest), Ms. Donnalyn shared some encouragement(positivity) but then she was bashed. A simple pinay teen from singapore shared her appreciation(grateful) on a bag she received and called it luxury, and the result? Bashers made some noise. Those two shared only what's on their mind, and their feelings at that moment, and I believe, what they want is not to brag but to inspire others. But somehow, people strike them with their negativity and some called it, 'toxic positivity'.
In my opinion, there's no such thing as 'toxic positivity'. Not because the positivity, encouragement or appreciation the one shared to another doesn't fit the situation or status of the one who've heard and read it, it could mean toxicity. It's a big NO. Positivity is positivity, and it cannot be toxic.
Now, how can we overcome those negativities in life?
1. Have a mind of Christ
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
-Proverbs 23:7
What's in your thought throughout the day. Life-giving and positive? Or are they negative? What things establishes your thought today?
Remember, 'the battle is in our mind.'
What we say matter, but what we think matters even more. Be mindful of this, your life will always move in the direction of our strongest thoughts. So arm your life and thoughts with life-giving truth. Seek Christ.
2. Speak Life
But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
-James 3:8-10
Speak words of life, it has a tremendous power for connection. Your words can bring healing, inspiration and encouragement. It can change a person’s day or even their life. Learn to control your tongue. To curse means to speak evil. To bless means to speak well to people and about people.
3. Be Thankful
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
- 1 Chronicles 16:34
In life we must always thank God because there are countless reasons to thank Him. In good times and bad times, give thanks to Him.
Give thanks for the gift of life.
Give thanks for His guidance and protection.
Give thanks for all the blessings you received.
Thank you Lord, for who you are for just being You.
But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong. -Job 2:10
So, whatever season you may in, and whenever someone shared some encouragement and positivity, received it. Don't mocked it. But, be glad of it. Ackonwledge it. He or she might God's instrument to remind you that God is greater.
You! What do you want to spread or share? Positivity or Negativity? You have a choice.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. - Philippians 4:8-9
