incredibly fascinating to see liberals who have cheered on the destruction of the soviet union and consider the reintroduction of capitalism to eastern europe to be positive/an act of liberation suddenly being really confused and scratching their head as to how there could possibly be a resurgence of fascism across europe

Realizing you can't completely "stay silly" your way out of systematic oppression keeping you stressed and sick sure is depressing. Still absolutely a reason to double down on the "stay silly" thing though.

big picture for transfeminism, there are transfems making tik toks where they say "i'll never be a real girl and i just have to learn to accept it" getting 100k+ views and girls flooding their comments going "oh yeah me too :( i feel this :(" and priority number one needs to be saving their lives i'm so serious. obviously some of this is a manifestation of dysphoria (expressed in the only language they have, steeped in transmisogyny) but a great many of them need to hear, unequivocally, that they are girls, they are women, and nothing and nobody can ever take that from them. the louder we are the harder it is for all of the eggs and self-hating trans girls to believe that they are at fault for any of the abuse levied at us day in and day out by a dominant culture that is fueled by our own extermination.

If the landscape actually was what people valued it to be, the global ecosystem would surely collapse. If suburbs were truly only houses, yards and trees selected by the homeowner, if pastures grew only the forages intended by the farmer, if agricultural land grew only crops, if a ditch next to an overpass was simply a ditch
If all the places we think of as "no longer wild" actually were, if the biodiversity we thought was gone actually was gone, life on Earth would not be able to sustain itself. The unintended and random plants, the wild weeds of lost and empty places, they hold us tightly, sustaining the few and meager scraps of symbiotic relationships that keep the Earth alive
The ditch beside the road is no longer a serene wetland. The wetland was bulldozed and destroyed and now it is a ditch, dirty and strewn with garbage. But because nobody looks closely, almost nobody sees...A few rushes and sedges have decided to grow here, there's a clump of stubborn and stunted cattails, and there in the weeds, a thickety willow cradling a blackbird's nest.
Easy to love the pristine wilderness in distant preserves, but will someone love this abused and ugly place? Will someone be moved to protect the wild of the roadside ditch and vacant lot as passionately as they protect the primeval forest?
Easy to see the importance of the Amazon rainforest for the very air in our lungs, but who will see the moss that grows between the bricks in the wall of their run-down apartment and realize, It is your oxygen that I breathe?
I read a paper one time suggesting that, even though the idea of monoculture is harmful through its influence on agricultural practice, monoculture does not actually exist, because in practice the weeds prevent it from becoming a reality.
I was thinking of that again, and wondering what it would be like if the weeds actually obeyed us...

for the last few months, not knowing 100 gecs was a band, ive been saying "100 gecs" whenever i meant to say "lmao", "lol" and "lmfao" as a direct result of me misunderstanding this tweet.
my friends knew the band so they didnt have this misconception. and still they just kinda rolled with it??? like imagine something like your friend seemingly randomly saying the beatles, sometimes in all caps in the middle of their messages HELPP
i also thought the amount of "gecs" would change depending on how funny something was, so for example just sort of saying lol at the end of a message would be translated to about 20 gecs. a standard lmao would be about 60 gecs, and a proper LMFAOO was 100 gecs. i had a whole system

You can discover your favourite band when you’re in your late twenties. You can meet your best friend when you’re in your thirties. You can finally accomplish a life goal when you’re in your fifties. Your youth isn’t the only time frame where amazing, life-changing things can happen.

Something I've been thinking on for months (but refrained from making a post about for reasons) is that while most of the time when I see people memeing or hating the military not only as an institution but on the individual level I'm like "yeah, based" but there is something to be said for how the military intentionally recruits at schools and how very young people are absolutely groomed into enlisting due to nationalist brainwashing. And how the military intentionally places their recruiting offices in lower-income areas. And how in a country with no healthcare or money for education the military intentionally promises that you and your family will always be taken care of. And a lot of them walk out the second their contract expires (or bail early using any means they can - pregnancy, drugs, crime, even willing to go AWOL knowing the jail sentence will be shorter than waiting out their discharge date). And most of them leave pretty fucked up. Not because they killed anyone or something because 90% of them literally never see combat, but because the way the military itself treats you from the moment you hit boot camp is an insane level of systematic abuse. People kill themselves over it before graduating to even serve in active duty. Teens. Kids. So. There's obviously a whole other discussion about the objectively shit people who join to do I do objectively shit things. But. Yeah. I actually do have compassion for the people who got in because they were young and coerced.
