In another time, on another Earth, yokai and humankind coexist with one another. This is your Earth.
And that’s lucky for you--- if you’d existed on our Earth, things might have ended differently. Maybe you’d have been subjected to a lifetime of captivity and scientific observation and experimentation.
Just be glad that Earth is not the Earth you live on.
Your name is Yuuki Kotone. You’re a kitsune living in the 21st century of this other Earth. You live in Akihabara, the Electric City of Japan.
Throughout your childhood, you and your family faced discrimination simply because of your race, and you’ve never really understood that. From what you knew, both human and yokai were sentient, and had souls. What was so different about them? Should not the worth of a sentient being be based on the content of their character, and not something as accidental as race?
Unlike quite a few of your peers growing up, you harbored no hate for humans. Even so, you would fiercely defend a fellow yokai from a human, without hesitation.
Things took a darker turn when you turned 14, and your family was coerced into joining a yokai supremacist terrorist organization. You willingly joined, under the impression that the organization was a symbol of unity between man and yokai, carrying out actions through nonviolent protests--- but you soon learned that this was a lie. In truth, the organization took a far more violent approach than you approved of.
After much thought and deliberation, eventually you ran away with your brother, promising your parents that you’d come back for them. You found your way to Kyoto, where you lived with your aunt until you graduated college, with a Master’s Degree in Musical Arts.
In three years’ time, the organization was dismantled, and your parents were declared missing. They still haven’t been found, but you swear you’ll keep trying to find them. You’ll search the world, if you must, once you raise enough money.
In the meantime, though, you’re enjoying a career as an EDM artist, with the goal of uniting man and yokai through the use of music. You hope to someday make it big in the West, too. You never leave your apartment without your laptop, and either your Launchpad or MidiFighter 64.
Aside from one day going Platinum, and finally finding your parents, another one of your goals is finding a girlfriend--- living alone makes you dearly crave companionship.
