The question threw him off guard, and he couldn't help but to drop those eyes of his again. "I'm not sure. There was a master who was interested in me for some time... Even claimed me so that I didn't have to stay down here... But he left. I guess I'm not particularly what most are looking for. Not quite a boy with the way I look and dress, yet not a girl. To confusing I guess." He shrugged lightly and smiled as he looked up at her. "I don't mind it though. I'm not going to change to suit someone else's desires."

“I’m the same. I hate conflicts as well. Hell, I’m so quiet most don’t even notice me,” Echo said with a soft laugh. At her question, he bit his bottom lip and nodded. “I’ve never tried. I’ve seen others try and it never ends well for them when they’ve attempted.”

“Well I bet it’s saved you from a lot of grief and people bothering you. Maybe I should do the same.” Ophelia found herself curious about the other more. He was a gentle and quiet soul which made her wonder why he was still here. “If you don’t mind me asking, what keeps you down here? In the cells?”

"I'm the same. I hate conflicts as well. Hell, I'm so quiet most don't even notice me," Echo said with a soft laugh. At her question, he bit his bottom lip and nodded. "I've never tried. I've seen others try and it never ends well for them when they've attempted."

“I can’t even fathom being cruel at all.” He dropped his mismatched gaze for a long moment as he bit at his bottom lip. “He isn’t one I’d want to catch the attention of. That’s for sure. And as long as you behave the other isn’t to bad. His interests is usually in the feisty ones because he likes to break them.” Echo looked up as her questioned was asked. “I… I’ve never tried to escape.”

Nodding she could understand why this man took the feisty ones. “I guess it’s a good thing I don’t like conflict. It’ll keep me safe. Being a faeire comes in handy.” She giggled lightly. “Never? Is it that hard and dangerous? As much as I hate the idea of trying, I don’t want to live the rest of my life here. There has to be a way out?”

“I think all the owner cares about is getting paid. He lets things slide as long as money is being put in his pocket. And this master… He’s a real monster. I’ve been lucky enough never to encounter him, but be very wary of him. With the slave breaker as long as your obedient he doesn’t seem to care.” Echo nodded as he bit his bottom lip. “I’m glad I could give the warning.”

“I just don’t understand how anyone could be so cruel? I’ve met money hungry people, but this one….He seems like the worst one around in the world. As for the other….I’ll try to behave. But I don’t want him doing anything bad. I mean..I don’t want to lose a finger or be covered in marks.” Biting her lip Ophelia wondered if she would ever be cursed with meeting this man. “And there’s no way to escape?”

When the conversation turned dark, Echo found himself stepping closer so that others wouldn’t hear much of what they were saying. Especially a guard or another master. “I think he pays for the ones he kills… The others are taken to the nurses station to be patched up. I… I can’t imagine the trauma that causes. A slave breaker is someone who is hired to keep us in line and to break the will of those who are far to spirited.”

Ophelia’s heart quickened in fear as she heard what the other said. ones he kills? Patched up? Echo was right, how could anyone imagine the trauma. “That’s horrible! And this place doesn’t care? What kind of monster is this man?” She was trying to keep her voice low so as not to cause a scene. “Thank you for warning me. I would never be able to survive that. I’ll have to be careful.”

At her question Echo bit his bottom lip lightly. “Um… Well, there are some nice ones, but there are more often bad ones that I’ve seen. Stay away from the witch who eats slaves and the slave breaker.”

“And I would do the same. I can’t let a kind gesture go un-thanked.” The fae was never one to just take without giving back. She was always one to bring joy to others. “A witch who eats slaves? But….but how? I mean is that even allowed? What is a slave breaker?”

"Awe. You don't have to do anything in return. I'll be happy to do anything to make things a little less dark," he said with a bright smile. At her question Echo bit his bottom lip lightly. "Um... Well, there are some nice ones, but there are more often bad ones that I've seen. Stay away from the witch who eats slaves and the slave breaker."

“I’ll do my best to get some art supplies. There are still some good mistresses and masters out there that can be kind. I’m sure if I ask the right one then I’ll be able to score.” Echo smiled, feeling successful in lighting up the mood of this whole thing for the poor girl. “I do love sweaters and scarves.”

“In exchange if I ever get out here I’ll do something nice for you. I’ll make you a lunch or something. We can have a picnic of sorts.” It was a nice thought really. A picnic with some tea and made some baked goods. “Do many of the nice ones come down here? Or is it more common for the not so nice ones? I think you would look cute in a outfit coordinated with the colors. A nice light colored sweater and scarf that was just the right size. What is the autumn like here?”

“I’ll do my best to get some art supplies. There are still some good mistresses and masters out there that can be kind. I’m sure if I ask the right one then I’ll be able to score.” Echo smiled, feeling successful in lighting up the mood of this whole thing for the poor girl. “I do love sweaters and scarves.”

Echo smiled and said, “If I can get a hold of some supplies I’ll make sure to draw something for you.” That would keep him occupied at least when it came to sitting in his cell. The talk of fall brought a smile to his face. “I love the fall. The weather does look beautiful during the time. It’s very lovely.”

“Thank you Echo, I would really love that. I always love things made by people rather than bought. It means more.” Ophelia loved small conversations like these. They could go on for hours given how much there was to talk about. “I also enjoy the weather since I can wear cute sweaters and scarves. Perfect time to layer up.”

Echo smiled and said, "If I can get a hold of some supplies I'll make sure to draw something for you." That would keep him occupied at least when it came to sitting in his cell. Echo blushed once more as he smiled, dropping his gaze lightly. He had been fiddling with his sleeves of his sweater which he had been allowed to keep after his master left him. “Thank you. I’m not all that great though. There’s an artist down here that has this strange ability to look at things once then draw it. Wish I was that good.” He had never actually met this other slave but he had heard about him. Guards talk and there was nothing much to do but listen. “I love shots of fall because the colors are so warm. And spring time can be beautiful if you find the right field of flowers.”

“Well one day I would like to see you paint. Maybe I’ll be able to decorate my cell with them and always have a view of spring.” It would be better than the dark walls and unwelcoming views in the cell. Thinking about fall it was a good season. Plus it was just the right amount of warm and cold. Something she actually liked. “I agree. The way the leaves fall and how they brighten the wordl up. Before I settled in Japan I used to walk through woods and it was the prettiest thing to see. Just surrounded by bright leaves. Trees, the ground, and in the little creeks floating by. Does that happen here? I don’t know trees well in this area, where ever we are. But I hope they have fall here.”

Echo smiled as he made room for the other to sit. He didn't talk much with most of the other slaves, so it was always nice to hang out with someone. Particularly someone not interested in hurting him. "The gardens are pretty covered in snow," he muttered.

“Um, I think it’s been a good long while. I’m not sure exactly how long. Time flies here.” Echo smiled softly and nodded. “You can. I don’t mind at all.” He scooted over to give the other room to sit.

“Very true,” he agreed, nodding. He licked his lips a little, and sat down beside him. He looked over at him. “Thank you,” he said, feeling more at ease with someone to hang with.

“I used to paint flowers and houses. Nothing to exciting.” He blushed softly at her comment and let his eyes drop for a moment. “Thank you so much. And I used to photograph all sorts of things. I mostly liked to photograph nature and animals.”

“I love flowers. I used to visit a art museum back home, and the pieces….I imagine you’re just as good if not better.” One day she would love to see him paint. It would be a sight to see. “What’s been your favorite place to shoot? I’m less artistic and more into the ancient history of places. I don’t have exciting hobbies.”

“I wasn’t much of a reader. I like to paint and do photography. When I was living in Paris I was a model for both men’s and women’s clothing. Ot was quite fun,” he replied with a soft smile. He missed those days when he would get all dolled up for a photo shoot.

“You paint? What do you do?” She always admired those who could paint. It was a skill she never could do. “I can see that. You’re pretty and have the looks to model. Did you have a favorite thing to photograph?” Ophelia was always more of a reader. But only because she like ancient history and cultures. Echo gave off a gentle artist vibe now that she really looked at him.

“Oh that does sound lovely. Rose does have a nice light taste.” The thought of a book shop and antique shop excited her. “Really? I’ll have to ask a few of these masters and mistresses if they could take me. I love books. I had a decent collection back home. Do you like to read? Or collect anything?”

“My favorite is an apple spice. It’s good warm or cool.” Smiling at Echo the girl wondered why he hadn’t branched out more. Maybe he was nervous or more reserved. “Yes they can. I’ve always loved the smaller shops though. The ones that not too many people know about but are more home like.”

“Winter and Autumn seasons always have the fun drinks. Peppermint ones and pumpkin spice,” Echo said with a smile as he looked at the other. He heard footsteps and bit his bottom lip, hoping he wasn’t noticed by whoever was passing by. Looking down and staying quiet till the person passed, he finally muttered, “There’s a few nice cafes in town. You should look in to working there. They have some of the best treats.”

“They do. My favorite. Though I do also love tea. It’s a good drink to have year round with many flavors.” The faerie went silent as the person past, holding her breath a bit. She was glad they didn’t stop and get the two in trouble. “I will! Cafes are the cutest places to work. And are more relaxing to work in.”
