Original Tsukihime is so good…..

I’m still thinking about it quite often

When I was first reading it I was thinking that Arcueid’s route would probably be my favorite, I was enjoying it and her design was cute also on my first play through I thought Kohaku was cute and would have been my second favorite. So then after Arcueid I started reading Ciel and… it’s more interesting by a long shot. I haven’t read remakes Ciel yet so I can’t comment on remake but in the original Ciel’s route was better in pretty much every single aspect. Then I was thinking that Ciel’s route is probably the peak no way far side can be as good as near side………. Oh how wrong I was.

So by the end my ranking of the routes would be:

1. Hisui’s easily I binged the entire route in one day I was so hooked by it and couldn’t stop reading (also now Hisui is my favorite)

2. Kohaku’s I find it to be the “best” ending in terms of happily ever after type of ending, while I don’t think the quality of writing is as peak as Hisui it left me smiling and feeling warm and fuzzy

^these two by a MILE no other route comes even close^

3. Ciel’s route

4. Akiha’s route

5. Arcueid’s route

Now my favorite heroins are Hisui > Kohaku > Arcueid > Ciel > Akiha so not exactly in the same order of which story lines I preferred well I guess I just like Arcueid more then I like her storyline

Also in terms of the routes Ciel’s and Akiha’s are actually pretty close like I may flip flop which route I think is better but after probably close to 2 months since finishing reading it I think Ciel’s is just slightly more memorable, the ending of Akiha’s (that battle in the woods) is very hype though

All of the routes are good and I kept thinking that the one I was reading at the time was the best one, until Hisui’s blew everything out of the water and was cemented as my favorite

I have to amend what I said here. Thinking about the film the morning after watching it and I think my opinion of the film has increased. When I was watching it I thought it was pretty good but thinking back to it I think it’s better than just pretty good. This is why I don’t review media on a first watch, I have to let it sit in my brain for a while and then give it a rewatch to really give a proper review.

I watched Harakiri and a couple things

1. It is good but it is also overrated a lot of people say it’s the best movie ever made which I disagree with but if it’s your favorite that’s fine

2. Calling it just “a critique on samurai culture” is too shallow of thinking, if that’s all the movie was it would just be an old film it wouldn’t be a classic for it to be a classic there had to be some element that remains timeless, it is better to think of the film as pointing out hypocrisy with in hierarchy, tradition, and “honor” it is an observation on the way these values allow people in a higher rung of the latter to disregard the life of those below them and a complete lack of human decency, respect, or compassion for those lower. The ronin could very well be replaced with modern day people sure they were not samurai but for what ever reason they landed on hard times and the point of the film is to critique a society that doesn’t care about their suffering it uses the samurai film as a medium but it can also be applied to modern day life so simply saying it’s a “critique on samurai” is ignoring what the film is really trying to say

Overall I thought it was a good movie with a good message but also overrated and over hyped it’s good sure but it’s not a perfect film and I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to most people as I’ve seen other movies I’d rather recommend

Edit: if you want to watch it yes go for it but I don’t have any friends I would personally recommend it to and if a stranger on the street ask for a movie recommendation this wouldn’t be my first pick…. but I’m not saying that I would advise against watching it, I do think it’s a good film
