Happy Lunar New year!

It is the Year of the Wood Dragon. So I decided to do a vague lore drop for my Xiaolin fic.

I'm expanding a lot of the existing canon lore to explain some things about how Dragon warriors work.

Rebligging to my Xiaolin blog cause, reasons

Y'all ever get so excited about a scientific paper you're reading that you get chills???

So I thought to myself

Huh, a lot of our invasive species come from China and Japan

And then I thought, huh, I should look up what Kudzu is like in its natural habitat

And I found this article by a team of scientists investigating the history of Kudzu in China

And ohhhhh my goddddd. I'm vibrating with excitement over how cool this is.

The first bombshell that turned my brain inside out:

KUDZU IS NOT WILD. IT IS SEMI-DOMESTICATED.

In China, Kudzu has been a fundamentally important plant for food and textiles throughout history. We have Kudzu cloth that is 6,000 years old!

THIS PLANT CLOTHED AND FED ONE OF THE MOST POPULOUS AND MOST ENDURING HUMAN CULTURES ON EARTH

and in turn

HUMANS SHAPED AND SELECTED FOR ITS TRAITS

*AND*

in its natural range, humans are the main "predator" of kudzu

"Harvest by humans appears to be the major control mechanism in its native areas."

Kudzu is like that because it co-evolved with humans.

" The fact Jack so readily trusted him even without his memories was a relief. Because if he has to deal with more today than he already did, the training dummy will not survive the next time he encounters it.

As they enter one of the mansion's bathrooms, Omi motions towards the shower cabin with a hand he did not realize he had been clenching until now, "Get inside please." 

Jack nods and steps in, eyes examining the space curiously as he runs his hand across the wall tiles, "So, now what?"

"Since it will take time for you to remember how to use the house appliances, and you and your clothes really need a wash, I have a solution." Omi states matter of factly, before grabbing a soap bottle, pointing it towards him along with his free arm, "Now, keep your eyes and mouth closed."

"Wait, wh-"

"Water!" Omi yells, a jet of water shooting out of his hand and merging with the soap he dropped into it, hitting Jack head on. His surprised yelp instantly turns into waterlogged sputtering as he backs himself into the corner. Once the stream subsides, Jack barely has time to stand there drenched or to spit out the water that got into his mouth before Omi carefully removes most of the water from his clothes and body's surface using his powers, discarding it into the drain in one fluid motion.

"Okay, we are done." Omi says, attempting to hide the angry tension from his expression and tone. Jack blinks at him, frozen. "Do you feel better?" Omi adds in a softer tone. He can gnaw out Jack for this very foolish act once he has regained his memories of his identity and understand why someone would be angry at him in the first place.

Snapped out of his shock though still visibly disoriented, Jack glances at himself, giving his now dry clothes a few pats. "I feel… cleaner." he finally says, giving Omi an uncertain and guarded look, "Now what?"

"Now we attempt to cardio your memory by telling you things about yourself." Omi states, briskly walking to the bathroom door and motioning for him to follow. 

"That doesn't sound right…" he hears Jack mutter quietly. "

Btw much as I love to make fun of twitter and reddit's business decisions, I have 0% trust in tumblr's management to not go a similar route so this is your gentle reminder that you should regularly go to your blog settings to export your blog. Did a whole piece and a doodle to celebrate!! This show means so much to me, so I want to go all out for it!!

I think I first watched xiaolin showdown when it aired on tv when I was a kid. I have very little memories of it (I probably didn't get to watch much) but I rmr I always wanted to do a proper, full watchthrough someday. I procrastinated on doing that for several years but when I finally did watch it I got invested almost immediately. the thing that hooked me in the most was def the character writing and their dynamics. it's the best thing abt the show for me

also sometime before that watchthrough I learned raimundo was brazilian just like me frfr and I was 1. very surprised (I must have somehow missed every episode of the show as a kid that mentions that fact. which includes the very first episode lol) and 2. very happy bc omg holy shit brazil mention !!!!

honestly xs is a show with a lot of highs and lows (a lot of lows …) but it is undeniably great at sparking creativity (even if that creativity manifests itself in the form of fix-it fics sometimes) and I still feel attached to my favorite characters from the show ngl. shoutout to raimundo pedrosa. love that guy
