what if we meet intelligent alien life out there but the novelty eventually wears off and we’re back to “i wonder if we’re alone in the universe or if there’s more than just humans and galorphasians”
#the spores from the smut balls spread the infection across the rice field#< prev's tags sound like ao3 tags#this is some star trek fanfic type of shenanigans

my fridge froze half a block of tofu completely solid and kept a bag of shrimp full of ice for the two days i was trying to defrost it in there. so i looked up how old my fridge is and the user manual for it was published 18 years ago. my fridge is legally old enough to vote and it's deciding to do tofu crimes about it. -_-
#i have *just* enough money to buy a new fridge but this is just one more thing in a stressful week#i was going to buy a fitness watch to see if my heartrate really is that high or if i'm just imagining it but i need that $90 for this now#just rambling

23 years old and I just made the connection that people on the northern hemisphere have a different view of the moon than people on the southern hemisphere.

I want to make this post separately because I know this is one of those insidious misinformation spiels that seep into regular Australian conversations.
Aboriginal is not a bad word. It's an identity. The idea that it means "original people" is true, sure, but it's just one of the many words that mean Indigenous to the land. All countries have their own version. That does not negate it's meaning as an identity.
You need to understand that what they called us before is a slur. Aborigines is a slur, and it still comes up when you search Aboriginal People. There are people in tumblr who still tag posts with that. Australians even.
It was our Elders, that fought hard to change the name from Aborigines to Aboriginal People. They fought during the White Australia Policy, they fought during the Stolen Generations and they still fight today. I say Elders, because they're still alive. The Uluru Statement From The Heart was proposed by Elders.
I won't let you dismiss and undermine the very identity of our people, the identity that my people fought to carve out, so that the later generations could hold their head up high. So the horrors of the past would never be forgotten, but would never be repeated.
I simply, will not let you disrespect the Elders that came before us in that way.
Call me Aboriginal, capitalise the 'A' and if anyone ever tells you that Aboriginal is not a real name for our people, tell them to shut the fuck up.

coming back to this with some highlights because whatever gen z they got to write these descriptions for menulog is so good at it
looking through the delivery menu of a cafe and all the coffee options are written like "rich and creamy coffee drink with a chocolatey twist" but then at the bottom the iced tea option just says "it's tea and we put ice in it..."
#i was gazing longingly at pictures of burritos but i think i'm going to make myself a sandwich and an instant iced tea now#just rambling#food mention#also please no americans here getting mad about carbonated lemonade. you have drinks that are worse.

"exercise will give you more energy" gets said a lot as a common piece of health advice but I think it needs to be expanded into "exercising will make you tired while you do it, and you will continue to be tired immediately afterwards, sometimes even the next day too, but over months of consistent exercise, your muscles will get stronger and therefore get less tired out by everyday activities, making you feel like day-to-day life takes less physical energy than it used to"
#OH. ok#that actually makes sense#i just thought it was the same as the ''eating less carbs gives you more energy'' bullshit that people say

i think a lot of white queer/trans people need to hear that "breaking gender norms" isnt just wearing a dress while masc or dying your hair. its also unlearning the beauty standards that impose ideals of white beauty and attractiveness on non-white folks. yes you have a nose ring but i just heard you tell your black friend with meticulously cared for natural hair "you'd just look so nice with straight hair is all im saying..." why does your blog fetishizing i mean uh. appreciating trans women only feature skinny white women who pass. when societal gender norms are so inextricably tied to whiteness and emulating whiteness it is not enough to simply change your aesthetic. you need to defy the gender norms in your own head too.
