4th of July
It was the 4th of July and you were celebrating on the lake with your friends. Your best friends husband had a boat back home in Maine and you rented a lake house for the week. It was mid day and you were a little drunk already. You all pulled up to the dock to refill on gas when a boat full of the most gorgeous men you’ve ever seen pulled up as well.
Your jaw drops and you hit your best friend Lauren on the arm.
“Laur, look at the tattoos on that one. I have nothing appropriate to say.” You giggled
Lauren just laughed and looked at her husband who had an evil grin on his face.
“Bet you won’t go hit on him.” Eric states with a grin.
All your friends on the boat groaned, knowing sober you would never turn down a bet, let alone while drunk.
You grin standing up.
“Oh you’re so on.”
You step off the boat, adjusting your bikini top and making your way over to the other boat. As you approach one of the blonde guys looks up and smiles at you.
“Hey there. You lost?” He grins at you
You laugh
“No, actually I think I’m right where I need to be.”
“Is that so?” His reply catches his friends attention and suddenly 2 other pairs of eyes are on you.
“Had a question for your friend over there.”
The blonde laughs, “Who, Auston?”
“The hot tattooed one.” They all laugh at that
“Honey, both my friends here have tattoos. You’re gonna have to be more specific.”
You sigh rolling your eyes and point at the tall, muscular, tattooed man with a mustache.
They all let out a laugh while he points at himself mouthing, “me?”
You can hear your friends behind you laughing their asses off.
“Yes, you. I have a question for you.”
Auston grins and steps off their boat and onto the dock in front of you.
“Woah.” You mutter, looking up at the tall, tattooed man.
“You okay there, sweetheart?” He asks laughing.
“Jesus what did your parents feed you? You’re like.. built.”
All his friends start laughing at this and you’re too drunk to be embarrassed.
“That was your question?” He smirks at you.
“Oh! No! I was wondering if you could feel my top for me and tell me what kind of material it is.” You grin at him, waiting for him to take the bait.
He raises an eyebrow at you and reaches out, fingers grazing the material of your top.
“Uh not sure, nylon maybe?” He looks confused for a second, lowering his hand.
You look down at the top confused.
“Huh, I could have sworn it was made out of girlfriend material. Hi, I’m Y/N.” You put your hand out to shake his.
He and his friends start to laugh loudly while you hear your friends groaning behind you.
Eric yells out “cmon, Y/N seriously?!”
“Girl, come back while you have what’s left of your dignity, please.” Your best friend shouts with her hands on her hips.
You turn around throwing your hands in the air dramatically,
“Hey, I’ve got this!”
You turn back to the tattooed stranger you now know as Auston, while he’s chuckling at you.
He shakes your hand.
“Nice to meet you, Y/N. My names Auston. My blonde friend over here is William and my other friend is Mitch, that’s his wife Stephanie next to him.”
You step aside and wave at his friends on the boat before a moment of realization hits you.
“Wait.. Auston, Mitch, William.. not the famous trio from the Toronto Maple Leafs, right?”
They all start laughing at you as a look of horror crosses your face.
You slowly covered your face and held your hands up as you feel your face blushing.
“I am so, so sorry for wasting your time. Have a good day, yall.”
They all start to laugh, Mitch and William buckling over.
Auston however, slightly chuckles and reaches for your hand as you turn away. You look up at him confused.
“Hey now, you can’t walk away after an introduction like that. Are you a hockey fan?”
You feel like you’re on fire. You know you’re blushing and standing here with THE Auston Matthews holding your hand is more than you can handle at the moment.
Before you can even stop yourself you laugh-
“Yeah, not a leafs fan though.”
You hear Lauren groan from behind you.
“Y/N don’t start!”
Auston lets out a loud laugh.
“Well, now I need to know what team you root for.”
“I uh I should go now.”
You start to turn but Auston doesn’t let go of your hand.
“Cmon, tell me.”
You sigh and look back at your friends. They’re all grinning at the mess you’ve made and you’re suddenly 80% less confident.
“The Bruins.”
The smirk on Auston’s face drops but he still doesn’t let go of your hand. You hear Mitch and William groan while Stephanie lets out a loud laugh.
“A rivalry love story, how cute!” Stephanie says with a grin.
“I um I should really go now.”
You cannot believe the mess you’ve gotten yourself into at this point. You silently swear to never drink again at this point.
Auston grins,
“Oh come on, where’d that confident girl go?”
“Oh buddy she’s long gone.” You say still feeling the blush on your cheeks.
“Let’s find her again. Come on, we were just heading over to the island out that way. Meet us there with your friends. Let’s see how this plays out.” He gives your hand that he’s still holding a squeeze.
Eric speaks up,
“She’s in. We’ll meet you there!”
You spin around looking betrayed.
“Eric! I’ve made a fool of myself enough for one day!”
Everyone laughs as Auston walks you back over to your friends boat, giving you a hand as you step down.
“See you there, Boston.” He says with a wink and heads back over to Mitch, William, and Stephanie who are all grinning wildly.
Lauren hands you another beer.
“Here, you’re gonna need this.”
You sigh and crack open the can. What the hell have you gotten yourself into?

Come Back, Be Here
Cole Caufield Imagine
“Baby it’s just not that easy. My new semester just started, I work full time, I can’t just pack up and come to Montreal for the week right now.” You sigh, looking at Cole’s disappointed face on the screen.
“You work remotely and you do school online, take a day to fly here and do your work here! I’ll set up an office space for you and everything, I just really need to see you.” Cole pleaded with you.
“It’s just not that easy, Cole.”
He rolled his eyes and anxiety filled your stomach. You felt a fight coming on.
“But it could be. But hey, if you don’t want to come that’s whatever.”
Your eyes started welling with tears, not liking the direction this was going in.
“Cole please understand.”
Cole sighed and looked at his watch.
“I always understand. I can’t do this right now, I’ve gotta get to morning skate.”
“Cole, please don’t do this.” You pleaded
Cole sighed and looked away.
“We’re gonna be on a roadie for the next 3 days, probably won’t have much time to talk. I’ll text you when I can.”
You sighed, knowing this was going nowhere. You quietly said goodbye and hung up.
You wiped away your tears and finished getting ready for work, your mind racing. Things had been great with you and Cole. Yes, the distance was tough but you saw each other as much as you could. When he played Boston or teams close to Boston you’d go and would travel to Montreal as often as you could. But you worked full time and went to school too so your time was limited. You both had already made plans for you to move to Montreal once you graduated in May. It being only January was making things difficult, but you were getting there. A new semester just started and you were busier than ever but it was your last and you’d be in Cole’s arms so soon. You knew he had a rough week and assumed that’s where the sudden shift was coming from. You kept replaying the fight over in your head all day at work, finally sighing in relief at lunch time, thankful for a break. You opened your phone and called your best friend, Annie. As soon as she answered she could tell something was off.
She sighed, putting her soup aside
“Okay spill. You look like a kicked puppy.”
You instantly started bawling, retelling her everything that happened on your routine morning Face Time with Cole.
“You know I hate to agree with a man, and while he should have gone about it a different way, Cole has a point. This month has been extremely hard on you both and you’re both stressed. Maybe a week or two in Montreal could do you some good.” Annie states, ever the voice of reason.
“He was so upset, Annie. You should have seen his face. I don’t know if he even wants to see me at this point.”
“Girl if you don’t go get on that plane this weekend to go see your man, I swear. You both need this. I get it’s scary to leave your routine but Cole will help you. He’s never made you feel anything less than secure, you’ll feel a lot better seeing him right now.”
You sighed. She was right. The whole reason you haven’t spent more than a few days in Montreal is because you’re anxious to leave your routine. But you can work remotely, school is online, and you could easily catch a flight after work Friday night.
“Okay alright, I’m gonna go look at flights and call Christian to see if he can help me out.”
Annie giggled at something on her phone and you got a text notification from Expedia
“Already found a flight for you, you just need to book it now. Call Christian and see if he can sneak you into the house when they get back from their roadie.”
“You’re the best, Annie. Thank you.”
“I always got you, now go make up with your lover boy. Can’t stand seeing you like this.”
You laughed and hung up. Mentally going over a checklist of to do’s before catching a flight Friday night. It was on Monday so you had a few days to prepare.
Friday came and went and you suddenly found yourself sweating in front of your gate waiting to board. You’ve never been nervous to see Cole before but this was different. He didn’t even know you were coming. How could he? He’s barely spoken to you over the last few days. Granted he had been on a roadie but with some secrecy from his roommate, Christian Dvork, you learned Cole had been in quite the mood. Your fight plus a few losses at games? Your golden retriever boyfriend had a dark cloud over his head. You just hoped Annie was right and the visit was all the two of you needed. Now Cole didn’t exactly freeze you out, he could never. He still checked in and told you he loved you. He would never let you forget it, no matter how upset he was.
Your phone buzzed with a picture from Christian and the words
“Lover boy is as grumpy as ever, has no idea. Flight still coming in at 8pm?”
You quickly replied and set him your flight number to track, just incase. You let him know you were about to board and turned your phone on airplane mode. You had an hour and a half flight to figure out what to say to Cole.
You stopped short outside of the luggage arrival. There in all his glory stood Christian Dvork holding a sign with your name on it. You giggled and greeted him with a hug.
“Am I glad to see you. Lover boy has been in the WORST mood. You gotta help. The whole team has taken notice.”
You sigh as he takes your bag from you and leads you to his car.
“That’s if he even WANTS to see me.”
“Listen, Cole needs to see you. The distance has been tough and he could use the pick me up. That boy is so in love with you it’s not even funny. He’s gonna be so happy to have you here.”
You nodded as the nerves began to set in. You’d never been nervous to see Cole before but this fight was something new to you both. You both settled into a comfortable conversation as you entered Christian and Cole’s neighborhood. As you pull up you see someone sitting on the doorstep, your favorite flowers in hand.
“Christian.. why is he out here? This was supposed to be a surprise!”
“I’m as shocked as you are, when I left he had no clue!”
Cole greets you at the passenger side and throws your door open, grabbing you out of the car and giving you the biggest hug. He let out a hearty sigh.
“I’m so happy you’re here. You have no idea how much I needed this.”
He kisses you and all your nerves melt away. Annie was right, you really did both need this.
You break away and he has the biggest smile on his face.
“Okay, how did you know? We were so careful planning this!”
Cole let out a laugh.
“Baby.. you never shut your location off. I hadn’t heard from you much today so I went to check and make sure you were okay. Saw your location suddenly in Canada. That’s pretty far from Boston, where you said you’d be.”
You both start laughing. Christian throws his hands up in the air
“You had ONE job!”
Cole grabs your bag from the back as the three of you make your way inside.
“So how long do I get you for?”
You smile big, hoping this will go well.
“Well.. two weeks if you’ll have me. You better make good on that office space promise though, still have work to do.”
Cole shakes his head and kisses you again.
“We’ll do that tomorrow. I’ve got other plans for you tonight.” Cole states as he starts walking you towards his bedroom.
“I CAN STILL HEAR YOU, YA KNOW.”
Christian yells from behind you. You both laugh and Cole shuts the door quickly.
Two weeks in Montreal with the love of your life, you couldn’t wait.

Omg thank you!!! Your user is amazing, I miss Lauko on the bruins so much
Authors note: I have not written a fic in well over 10 years. Be kind!
“Baby,” you groaned. You couldn't fully believe you were getting into the same argument with him again. You held up the cursed jersey and shook it in his face. “I love you, but I refuse to put this on.”
Cole rolled his eyes and huffed.
“I don’t really see the big deal, babe.”
Your eyes shot to his face.
“BIG DEAL?” You threw your hands up in disbelief causing the jersey to fly around. “It’s a SIN!”
He sighed. “Here we go,” he said before sitting down on the edge of the bed.
You ignored him and continued.
“Cole. Baby. Babe. Love of my life. Light of my days. This isn’t just any normal game. It’s the CENTENNIAL GAME. The Boston Bruins’ 100th year. Massively important in hockey history. Against our BIGGEST rivals. How is this NOT a big deal?!”
You paced back and forth across the bedroom digging your socked feet into the carpet of the hotel room. The hand not holding the cursed jersey counted out each and every point against wearing the damned thing.
“I’m asking you to show support for me, your loving boyfriend,” he retorted, trying to defend himself.
You tossed the red jersey down on the bed beside him as even holding felt like it would cause you to break out in hives. Cole rolled his eyes again at the size of your dramatics.
“I do support you!” You shot back weakly “Just.. not against my team.” Your boys.
“Baby, if you put that Marchand jersey on, I’m walking out of here.” He gestured towards the black and gold jersey sticking out of your bag. The whole reason the argument had started.
You stopped instantly.
You had so little time together before Cole had to get ready for the game and wanted to see him for as long as possible. Having a long distance boyfriend who lived in Canada and traveled for a living wasn’t for the weak. You hardly got to see him during the season. You didn’t want him to leave early over a jersey...BUT you couldn’t bring yourself to support the Montreal Canadiens. God, what would your mother think? You literally had season tickets for the Boston Bruins. The TD garden was your happy place!
You sighed.
“Cole. I love you. I do. But I hate your team. It’s in my blood. You knew this before getting into a relationship with me. I told you from day one that I couldn’t wear your jersey.”
Your team loyalty ran deep.
“It’s a goddamned jersey.” His face grew red with frustration. “You can’t put aside a rivalry for your own boyfriend?”
“It’s like me asking you to wear a Bears jersey instead of a Packers jersey! Do you see the issue here?”
He sighed in defeat and rolled his eyes, clearly knowing he wasn’t getting his way.
“Whatever.” He perked up. “I’ll make a bet with you then. If we win, you have to wear my jersey at our next home game and spend the week with me in Montreal.”
“Absolutely not, the B’s have been playing like shit lately. Too easy.”
Cole raised his eyes to the ceiling, looking for any sort of guidance from the gods above to deal with his amazingly stubborn future wife.
“Okay fine. If I score a goal, then you have to come spend the week in Montreal with me after our next home game.”
You giggled, knowing that no matter how much you frustrated the man, he couldn’t hold anything against you.
“Okay fine, but that’s not much of a punishment. If the B’s win, then I still get to come to Montreal for a week, I just don’t have to put...that…on.” You gestured towards the horrible jersey.
Cole smiled in that soft, boyish way that made you remember why you fell in love with him. He pulled you forward so you were standing between his legs and pressed a soft kiss to your forehead.
“Deal,” he conceded with a whisper. He pulled back to glance at you with that soft smile. He pressed his thumb to your cheek as he caressed your face. “I’m sorry that I got annoyed, but I just wanna know that you’re supporting me still.”
You frowned. When was that ever in question?
“Cole, I love you and I support you no matter what even if I hate the team you play for. You know this. Where’s this coming from? It can’t just be about the jersey.” It wasn’t like him to be jealous or insecure. Since the day you’d met Cole, he had been a confident, bright ball of sunshine.
He sighed and leaned back on the bed, looking down at his knees.
“It’s just been hard lately, you know? I see the whole team with their WAGs on the daily, and we’re lucky if we get to see each other once a month. And I know it’s my job that causes the distance, but I just miss you. All the time.”
You quickly blinked away the tears that came to your eyes at his confession. It had been tough. On both of you. You and Cole had been together for a year and a half, but you didn’t get to spend much time together during the season.
You suddenly panicked, thinking maybe it was getting to be too much for him. Not being able to bear the thought of not being with him at all.
“Does...does that mean you don’t want this anymore? Is it too much?” You really didn't want to cry, but it was becoming inevitable. “I know it’s a lot, but I’m almost done with school. And as soon as I graduate, I thought we had plans for me to move to Montreal with you. I...I just...I’m so close to being done, you know, and I’m working so hard--“
Cole quickly cut you off as he stood and grasped your shoulders.
“Honey, no. That’s not what I’m saying at all. Get that out of your head right now. It’s hard, but I know we can do it. You only have a year left. I would wait a hundred years if it meant I got to be with you forever. All I’m saying is that I miss you. I’m so grateful for the time we do get to be together. Ask any of the guys, I haven’t been able to shut up about this game all week, because I knew I would get to spend a day with you.”
Cole wrapped his strong arms around you as he pulled you into a hug. One you both needed.
You both sighed in relief.
“I love you,” he said softly. His lips were at your ear. “I’ll never stop loving you and I’ll never give up on us. I can’t wait til we can get you to Montreal for good and for our lives to start together. It’s only a year...”
“It’s only a year,” you echoed in agreement.
Cole kissed you with enough passion that you were certain your makeup was smudged. He leaned back towards the bed before handing you the Marchand jersey and grinning.
“C'mon. Put this on and let’s go, I got a goal to score for you tonight.”
The night did indeed end with the Bruins winning 6-3, one of those goals being Cole’s. You didn’t miss the way he looked up and pointed at your section when he scored. Your knees felt weak with anticipation at what exactly that goal meant. You couldn’t wait for your week in Montreal without a red jersey on your body.
