Cutting Threads - watching the world end - from Anton Hecht on Vimeo.
A work of post cinema, hoping to install. this is a section, have done the full work across 140 phones
This work is a re-filming of Threads, but not in the traditional sense. Rather than re-staging or remaking, it is a modular compositing: an accumulation of screens, each showing Threads as it plays on phones held by viewers scattered across Sheffield. The film returns—not as a singular broadcast, but as a dispersed echo—threaded through the landscape it once imagined destroyed. It is an experiment in repetition with variation, an act of remediation and translation. Each screen becomes a site of both stasis and narrative, of passive watching and active incorporation. As each participant films their own watching, they become presenters of the scene: watchers watching Threads, and in doing so, threading themselves into it. To facilitate this distributed re-filming, the original film was divided into one-minute segments, each accessible via QR code. Viewers encountered these fragments in different spaces and moments, and through their phones, became both audience and co-creator. This structure allowed the film to circulate in a non-linear, asynchronous way—mirroring the fractured temporality of post-cinematic experience. Watching became modular, portable, and context-specific. A participatory adaptation. The result resists the cinematic in any traditional sense. It leans instead into post-cinema: a distributed, composited, and rewilded media experience. Film is no longer indexical in the old way—it is fractured and modular, flickering across surfaces, locations, and moments. Yet precisely through this dispersal, a new index emerges—one rooted in real time, real space, and real hands. The physicality of place reasserts itself. This is a filmic rewilding: not a retreat into virtual sets or synthetic landscapes, but a return to the world as it is, mediated by bodies, devices, and environment. In contrast to the rise of virtual production—where place is simulated, composited, and often abstracted—this work insists on the real and the situated. It translates the apocalypse not into CGI spectacle, but into lived, handheld, partial moments. Threads is adapted not by a singular author but through a collective watching: a polyphonic translation in which each phone, each viewer, adds a variation, a shade, a delay. Here, adaptation becomes layered—less about fidelity and more about drift, echo, re-contextualisation. Theoretical models of adaptation often linger on transformation across forms: novel to film, film to stage. But what about media-to-body, body-to-place, place-to-memory? What happens when the film adapts to its watchers, and they, in turn, adapt to its reappearance? What does it mean to return Threads to the place it depicted? To allow the people of Sheffield—now, here—to absorb and reframe its apocalyptic vision? The work becomes a quiet revolt against the oppression of the simulacrum, against the flattening of place into myth. Instead, it lets the film be re-inhabited. To decay, be retold, and ultimately re-seeded. A watching that is not static, but compositional. Accumulated. Layered. Re-threaded. Ive done the whole film, hoping to install in a space in Sheffield, the final re-setting of the film.

Moving On from Holly Jacobson on Vimeo.
I wanted to tell a story about something that was fairly personal to me and so I decided it would be about this time in my life when I’m just starting to grown up – and about friendship!
“Moving On” was in part inspired by the song “Puff the Magic Dragon” (I love that song!) – because I thought about how when Jackie Paper didn’t think about Puff any more, he just kind of disappeared.

The Loneliness of the Short Distance Runner from Holly Jacobson on Vimeo.
This was a film that I originally shot back in 2014, but it has taken a long time to get it through the editing process (perhaps because there was never a script!). At Stockport Film Festival I was really inspired by a talk by Mark Herbert (producer of “Four Lions”, “Submarine” and “This Is England” and loads more). I wanted to make a film that was really more of a character exploration and so was born a girl named Zoe. I came up with hundreds of facts and character traits and little idiosyncrasies for this character, most of which never came to light and started filming. It began as a stream of consciousness but ended up as an inevitable journey for this girl that I came to love.

The Kobe Child Murders from DEADBUG says on Vimeo.
A Short Film on the 14 Year old boy who killed a disabled boy and left his head impaled at the front gate of the school.
On May 27, 1997, the head of Jun Hase (土師 淳?), a special education pupil at Tainohata Elementary School, was found in front of the school gate hours before pupils arrived for classes. Hase had been beheaded with a handsaw, with further mutilations being done before being left in front of the school, for students to discover when they arrived in the morning. A note, written in red pen, was found stuffed in his mouth, identifying the killer as "Sakakibara." The note read:
"This is the beginning of the game... Try to stop me if you can you stupid police... I desperately want to see people die, it is a thrill for me to commit murder. A bloody judgment is needed for my years of great bitterness."

The Neomugicha Bus Murder from DEADBUG says on Vimeo.
A truly bizarre case, called in Japan as The Neomugicha incident (西鉄バスジャック事件 ) or Neomugicha Bus Murder. Very little is known about the full details of this event because it is protected under the Japanese Juvenile offenders act, which means the full details of the case and court documents will never be released to the public (although several court manuscripts have previously been leaked on file sharing sites.
On May 4 a bus was hijacked by a user of internet forum 2channel a 17 year old named “Neomugicha” after placing a warning on the website that he was going to make history .The teen known as BOY A in the press because still considered a child, his identity is legally protected. BOY A suffered from what the Japanese call Hikikomori (meaning being inward and confined)are reclusive adolescents or adults who withdraw from social life, often seeking extreme degrees of isolation and confinement. Hikikomori refers to both the phenomenon in general and the recluses themselves. Described as loners or "modern-day hermits" Estimates reveal that nearly half a million Japanese youth have become social recluses.
What is known, or at least been leaked in court transcripts, is that BOY A came to his parents, telling them he had fallen in love but the girl of his affections had been kidnapped and he needed money to pay the ransom to release her to him, feeling something was strange about the story and the ransom being a relatively low sum (10 000 Dollars) they questioned him further, when pushed the teen admitted he had fallen in love with a "Love Doll" and the money was actually to buy the doll who he believed was being held hostage at the sex doll factory and that he had been breaking in at night to see her. (The factory admitted to several unexplained break in’s) but had failed to call the police because nothing was taken or damaged and they thought it a vagrant coming in to get warm.
When his father ridiculed the boy and told him he was a looser and he would disown him for such craziness of having relations with a love doll, the teen went on 2CHANNEL a popular underground Asian chat forum and warned people on the forum that he was going to make history. When they mocked him further, he hyjacked a bus.
An hour after posting a cryptic threat in a thread with the name "Neomugicha" the 17-year-old hijacked a bus "the Wakakusu" in Dazaifu, Fukuoka, Japan with a Gyuto knife ( a well known large razor like cutting knife used by Chef’s), cutting off one of the passengers head's (a 68 year old woman travelling with her daughter) when he felt police and passengers were laughing at him, while attempting to kill two other passengers and the Special Assault Team finally stormed the hijacked bus and captured the youth alive even though he stabbed two members, they had wanted to take the bus sooner but BOY A spent the whole journey sitting next to a 4 year old girl with his knife held to her throat. Japanese Swat team stormed the bus when the teen temporarily moved away from the young girl.
Footage of the crime caught on various news camera's as four different Japanese stations were covering it like (similar to the O.J Simpson chase) in footage the boy was filmed smelling the blade after cutting off his victims head. The incident came as a shock to both 2channers who streamed the final hours of the siege, they had mocked Neomugicha as a liar, thinking he was posting about an attack that had already occurred, and to the general public and his love for a rubber lover! The lovestruck teen was only given four years in a Japanese child rehabilitation centre which is literally like a summer camp and Boy A is now out on the streets protected from the facts that is truly one of the strangest in a country that has its fare share of oddities!
This story reminds me of Al Pacino film “Dod Day Afternoon” based on the true story of John Wojtowicz a guy who robs a bank and takes hostages to fund his lovers sex change. On a side note BOY A is rumoured to be a well known Japanese youtuber making a healthy salary playing video games for a living. Probably can afford as many sex dolls as he wants.

Killing Keighley Barton I Murder By Design #8 from DEADBUG says on Vimeo.
This is a documentary very close to my heart, as I have an intimate relationship to the subject matter, the killers brother Harry Barton, Ronnies younger brother, was like a father to me and his son was my best friend growing up, so I was amongst this mayhem as this horrific event unfolded and experienced first hand the damage it did to all involved.
Killing Keighley Barton, is a story of how a simple case of a possible runaway London teenager turned in to one of the country’s most complex murder cases without any physical evidence, and solved only by a hunch and a gamble.
It’s also a shocking example of how the justice system failed a family and allowed a sexual predator to reoffend numerous times, finally resorting to murder. Keighley's mother moved in with her new boyfriend when she was just 5 months old, and took on her stepfather’s surname. Her two half brothers came along soon afterwards. Ronnie had begun abusing her when she was just 8 years old. He was first convicted of two charges of gross indecency against her on 12th December 1980 and was given a 12 month suspended sentence. He returned to the family home but continued to abuse Keighley and was arrested again in 1982. Sadly the case was dropped as Keighley refused to testify against him for fear of Ronnie and breaking up the familly (she loved her brothers). In 1984, Barton was arrested and charged again with abusing Keighley but, once again, she withdrew her accusations at the last minute.
Barton had control of the household by fear. Threats of murder were commonplace infact his whole family feared him, including one incident where he held a gun to Keighley’s head until she agreed to withdraw allegations of abuse. Keighley was placed in to council care but frequently ran away back to her family home such was the state of care homes back then. Following yet another incident of abuse in 1985, Theresa finally found the strength to remove Barton from the home by obtaining a Court Order preventing him from going near Keighley or the family home. Theresa then brought Keighley home for good or so she thought.
Barton began a hate campaign of persistent phone calls and spying on the household as he could not accept the relationship was over. He used one of two cars he owned to abduct Keighley (niether of them were ever found) and admitted to other inmates in prison that he had killed her. He initially stated that her body had been put in a car crusher then said she was still alive and he could help police find her.
Barton was born in 1940 in Hackney to Henry Barton and Winifred Geary he had 3 younger siblings, Harry, Richard (Dick) and a sister Joanne. Unknown to Theresa, Ronnie had numerous convictions for violence and GBH, as well as abusing young girls, and had served time in jail five times, including:
1959: Admitted unlawful sex with a 14 year old girl and was given an absolute discharge. 1961: Assaulted a 15 year old girl, but remained free. 1962: Jailed for six months for indecently assaulting a teenage girl. 1963: Jailed for 12 months for an attack. 1965: Jailed for nine months for an attack. 1966: Jailed for 18 months for ABH with attempt to rob. 1970: Jailed for 21 months after luring a 15 year old girl in to his car and assaulting her.
Ronnie Barton was a 45 years old when convicted of the abduction and murder of Keighley.
CLASSIFICATION: Murderer ORIGIN: English ACTIVE YEARS: August 18th 1985 METHOD: Stabbing NUMBER OF VICTIMS: 1 DATE OF ARREST: August 31st 1985 STATUS: In custody with chance of parole
