TWO FOR TRYING
Jooheon took me into a section of the the castle that was hidden to most guests, the servant’s quarter. The smell of fresh bread reached my nose and it instantly made me hungry.
A few older women were hard at work peeling potatoes while others were chopping some carrots and onions. The smell was delicious, it reminded me of home. “Hungry? We didn’t really get to eat.” I nodded and he led me into the next section of the kitchen. We turned the corner and the smell intensified; at this point I was practically drooling. “Well, well, well; are they not feeding you enough up there?” A heavy-set middle aged woman said, approaching the both of us. “Aunt May, it’s been awhile.” Joohenon headed straight to the woman and hugged her tightly. “My gracious, what on earth happened here?” Her expression went from sheer joy, to confusion, concern and or disappointment; I wasn’t sure, it was too soon to tell. “Now you know your mother raised you better than this” she said checking him over once more. “Com’on, You know I was raised by wolves.” Jooheon said bouncing his eyebrows. “Hush that now...even if it’s true.” The woman joked with bright eyes. The two shared a genuine laugh. “Aunt May, I want you to meet someone. This is our queen, well as of tomorrow... “Ms. May, wiped her hands across her apron and then curtseyed with a lop sided smile. “Highness, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” The poor woman, I could only imagine what the two of us looked like soaked to the bone like this. “Please, please we don’t have to stand on pleasantries; it’s nice to meet you Ms. May. Please excuse my attire, our dear Jooheon has an appetite for bringing out the mischief in the best of us.” At this Ms. May let out a boisterous laugh. “No truer words have ever been spoken; he’s had me question myself a many a time!” The woman started to dig into a bin hidden behind some cabinets. She handed Jooheon and I a couple of towels. “Here, let me fix you something warm to eat.” Joohenon be a gentleman and make her comfortable, won’t you.” I smiled at how freely she talked to him, it reminded me of a mother and son. Jooheon patted the cushion of the bay window, he held my hand as I tried to hop up modestly. His cheeks turned red as I tried to keep my dress together but, I was failing miserably; the dress seemed to have a mind of it’s own. “Here, this should warm you a tad; Jooheon has your mother seen you two?” I grabbed the bowl, it had to be as old as me. “Sure did, you know how she has a sixth sense for spoiling any kind of fun.” I sampled the soup and it sent a chill through me. “Delicious!” Joohenon and Ms. May both lit up, “Thank you child, have as much as you wish.” I enjoyed their banter for a while, it reminded me of papa. “So child, how are you enjoin’ Kydith? Was the tide welcoming?” I nodded, “Quite.” “The grounds are marvelous, not to mention the food! I’ve met some interesting people thus far, the townsfolk were so welcoming. I honestly couldn’t ask for much more, well… maybe some dry clothes…” The three of us continued to converse. I learned that Baekhyun was indeed the castle fuck boy. “Charlene almost burnt down the entire damn kitchen, I found the two of them in the flour cupboard.” I choked on my beverage, “I’m telling you, that man is nothing but trouble.” Jooheon spoke next, “That man is a prodigy. He’s as dangerous with a sword as he is with his coc- um, bed habits…” Ms. May eyed him, “What have I told you about that filthy talk?!” A deep sigh left my fiancé, “I’m sorry May, old habits die hard.” I nudged him with my elbow. “Well, this kitchen isn’t going to run itself; Majesty, it’s such a treat to meet you in person. If you need anything, you know where to find me; especially if Jooheon is giving you grief.” Her eyes were warm and piercing into me, “Yes ma’am.”
“She was pleasant, how long have you known her?” I asked locking my fingers in his as we headed up a narrow passage into the castle. “Since birth, she’s been like a second mother to me.” There was something so gentle in the way he spoke of her, “I can tell she cares deeply for you.” The smile he gave me next was beaming, “I hope the two of you can become good friends.” Before I knew it, Jooheon led us to a paneled wall and pushed it open. We were right back inside the castle, “Well, that’s neat.” My fingers ran over the perfectly sealed edge of the hidden door. “Mhmm, we have several of these throughout the castle; I can’t count the amount of beatings I got as a child for playing in these with my cousin.” We waited as servants made their way past us carrying a pillar over their shoulder, no doubt it was for tomorrow’s events. Butterflies tickled me at the thought, I remembered the clock was just ticking away, every single second bringing us closer to our eternity. “Are you referring to Prince Kihyun?” Jooheon nodded, “Tell me about him?” We turned a corner and the castle started to look familiar, I believe we were headed back towards the main entrance way. “Well, at first glance he can come off a bit calloused but; once you get to know him, his kindness might blind you.” I thought briefly of my sister, “ I think marriage will do home well, he needs a womanly touch as he’s a little rough around the edges. Growing up without a mother’s nurturing touch will take it’s toll on anyone.” I sighed, “I can relate, I never got to meet my mother, I often wonder how I can miss someone I never even met but, Mothers are special in that way.” Jooheon squeezed my hand. “His mother, she was executed, right?” His face turned somber, “Yeah, my uncle is one cruel man. I’m still not sure if he’s truly moved past it yet. The relationship between him and his father is beyond strained. After she passed Kihyun built a wall and very few people have been able to climb it.” I frowned, “How sad.”
“Ah speak of the devil, I presume he’s been nothing short of a gentleman?” I sucked my teeth as Na’eva and Kihyun starred bugged eyed. “Never mind us, what the hell happened here?” The prince asked. I went to speak but Jooheon beat me to the punch, “We went for a swim, duh.” Na’eva and I both dropped our heads into the palm of our hands. Kihyun took my sister’s hand and gave it a light kiss, “Please excuse me; I have some business I must tend to, I’ve put it off for as long as I can.”The perplexed look on Na’eva’s face didn’t slip my notice. “Shall I see you for dinner?” Kihyun asked, still holding her hand. “Of course highness, I’ve enjoyed chatting with you; thank you for the tour.” I watched as she took her hand back a little too hastily. “Jooheon, I think I’ll retreat to my chamber for a rest; will you be alright with out me?” Jooheon grabbed his chest and played as though he was about to faint on the spot, “How will I ever man-age-oh no, I’m not going to make it.” I laughed at his non-sense once more, “I’m serious, are my services required else where?” His brow flicked up and I could feel my face getting warm. Those damn dimples. “Ahem.” We both came out of our silent conversation. Na’eva stood there looking at her shoes. “No, you’re free to do as you wish; let someone know if you need anything.” I curtseyed and he bowed before leaving us there. “You have some serious explaining to do missy. Come on, lets get you out of what ever this is…” Na’eva said holding up a completely limp feather.
“A sword fight, huh?” My sister asked. “Yeah it was actually a lot of fun, he’s pretty quick on his feet.” She laughed, “I can’t wait to tell father.” I gasped, “What, you wouldn’t?” I splashed water at her, the bath felt wonderfully warm and inviting. “So tell me about your afternoon, you and Kihyun looked rather, what’s the word? Oh, awkward.” Na’eva rolled her eyes and completely submerged into the water.
“WHAT!?? She choked you?” Jooheon stood there in disbelief, “She misinterpreted something I said and just reacted. I still can’t believe that was her first response.” Kihyun said honestly confused. “Nathan, can you bring some wine?” Jooheon asked, knowing good and well they we’re both going to need it.”
“He’s not romantic- at all! He is devilishly handsome though so, I guess that helps with his assholey tendencies? Hell, I don’t know. He wants me to come and visit Peth, much sooner rather than later. If the circumstances didn’t seem so dire,I wouldn’t even go.” I ran my fingers through my thick curls, “Dire?” Ameerah asked. “Yes, apparently Pethians are plagued with such a low morale; he invited me to come and let the citizens lay eyes on their future queen; to remind them that a new era is soon to come.” I loosely braided my hair, “Not to mention, they havent seen you since you were a child-I’m sure that would be refreshing.” Na’Eva was still lost in thought, “What aren’t you telling me?” For a brief moment, she weighed if should…but she didn’t. “Nothing, I’m just still a little shaken from my meeting with Kihyun. C’mon, let’s hurry- I have make sure you’re ready for supper. Lord know’s we’ll have to redeem you after today’s afternoon dip.” She did this all the time, brushing things right off- it infuriates me to no end. If I didn’t want to know I wouldn’t have asked in the first place. Truth be told, she looked like she needed to share more than I needed to ask. “Yeah, yeah- BUT NO FEATHERS!”
“Now, you see why I need your assistance?” Kihyun said with his arms crossed. “Man, for starters, let’s not piss off your fiancé to a point of physical violence.” Kihyun dropped his hands to his side, “ I told you that wasn’t my fault!” Jooheon spoke over him, “Secondly, you’re acting as though you’ve never romanced anyone befo..re…oh….yeah, well you’ve come to the right person. So, what did you two do today? Tour the gardens? Eat lunch? Explore the castle?” Jooheon said with vigor. “I found her in a hallway and took her back to my room, we spoke for a bit and then she choked me.” Jooheon downed his glass, “Fuck…Ki, this is going to be harder than I thought. Well, baby-steps I suppose. Tonight, you’re going to have dinner together- just the two of you. I’ve already planned a dinner with Ameerah. Granted, it’s a little non traditional to not eat with the house before the wedding so, we’ll break away for dessert. “Ki, I’m leaving you in charge of your table; decorate it as you see fit. Nothing bland! Remember she’s a princess….YOUR princess, try to woo her. You got this.” Jooheon said placing a hand on his cousins shoulder. Kihyun nodded, “Piece of cake.” Jooheon flashed his megawatt smile, “That’s the spirit, now chop chop!”
Jooheon was having a ball, he adored the idea of spoiling his fiancé. “Hmm, lets go with the pink.” He said to a servant in the kitchen, “She looked rather pretty in it this afternoon.” The servant agreed and began decorating the strawberries. “What sort of flowers do you suppose would match?” Jooheon asked, jutting his hip to the side.
“Orchids my lord,I hear she’s loved them as a child.” Jooheon looked at the servant stunned, “Wow, how’d you know that?” The servant’s cheeks turned a bright pink, “You’re mother highness, she’s quite thorough.” Jooheon rolled his eyes, “Indeed she is. Alright, Orchids it is; I’m in your hands.” He added with a smile.
This was an absolute disaster, Kihyun was realizing that he didn’t know much about his queen. He sat with a pen in hand making a list of things he assumed most any woman would enjoy. However, he only had two items; himself and her. An exasperated sigh left him, “Damnit. Damn it all to hell!” He knew he needed help but, from who? Not Jooheon, he was busy with his own endeavor to capture Queen Ameerah’s heart. He didn’t dare ask Ameerah, he was sure her mind was on much more important things at hand. Kihyun stood up from his desk and decided that a walk would do his mind good. As Kihyun made his way through the castle, he noticed many of the wedding decorations were starting to come together nicely. He couldn’t help but smile, his beloved, goofy cousin was finally getting married. A lopsided grin came over him, along with some heartwarming memories. “How many times do I have to tell you, I want more silk on these chairs.” Kihyun was quickly kicked out of his own thoughts as the queen mother walked past him with a gentleman. He looked vaguely familiar, Kihyun thought for a brief moment before it hit him. Jamison, that was his name. He hadn’t seen him since they we’re kids. “Pardon me Queen mother but, I must beg of some assistance from your current company.” Katherine eyes bulged a bit at his request, she looked at Jamison and nodded. “That’s perfectly fine, I must review the menu for this evening. Jamison, I appreciate you keeping this old queen company. If my nephew gives you any trouble, come find me. She said picking up her hefty skirt and quickly floating across the marble floor. Jamison smiled and bowed. “My king, how may I be of service?” Jamison tried to control his heartbeat as a wave of jealousy swelled in him. “How have you enjoyed your time in Thear?” Kihyun asked. “My lord, Thear has treated mother and I well. We’ve been very busy keeping our promise to you lord, teaching your queen the ways of our kingdom.”Jamison could feel the bile rising in his throat, he hated this small talk and calling Na’eva anyone’s except his. “You’re both to be commended, I’ve heard great things. I hear you’ve become quite the opponent with a sword?” Jamison laughed, “Well, that depends on who you ask. Remember, my duty is to teach and protect; I’m only doing what’s asked of me highness.” Kihyun grinned at his candor. “Very well then, I have another task for you.” Jamison raised a brow, “I’m always up for a challenge majesty.”
“Na’eva, which earrings? Crystals or the diamonds?” The two took turns holding the current options over her silk and pearl gown. The diamonds looked very brilliant as the lights bounced off of them, yet the crystals had a very soft glow that swallowed any color it was against. The girls squinted and replied at the same time, “Diamonds.” That happened quite often, finishing each other’s sentences or thoughts. “So back to your afternoon dip, how handsome was he wet?” Ameerah cut her eyes at her sister and laughed, “I can’t even put it into words- his body looked incredible underneath his shirt.” A blush hit her cheeks again, “His smile could talk me into just about anything….I’m terrified at how easily he tempts me.” Na’eva perked up at that last line, “Tempts you? What ever do you mean? You did save a little fun for tomorrow evening, did you not?” A giant smile creeped across her lips, “RUDE! You’ve lost all story privileges!” The two shared a laugh and continued to get dressed. Na’eva traced the brim of her eyes with dark coal, “Have you given much thought to tomorrow evening?” Ameerah blotted her lips with mint leaves and rouge. “Of course I have, I’m every bit anticipating and dreading parts of that ceremony.” Na’eva nodded, a royal wedding will take it’s toll on anyone; especially, the happy couple. Na’eva nodded, her sister would be taking the final step into womanhood. “Well, hopefully your reign will boil down to more than intimacy, childbirth and being obedient. Jooheon seems to have a great reputation amongst his people though, the air about him seems, different?” Ameerah sighed, “Tell me about it! He’s a great listener and has just a keen interest in everything it seems, I don’t know I could be partial? I certainly hope not, I hate how long it takes getting to know someone but, it seems like he’s excited to try to. I honestly can’t complain- that’s more than most queens get in a lifetime.” The two shared a comfortable silence and started on their hair. “So, do you think the sex will be good?” Ameerah twisted a curl into her palm. “Sister!” The two giggled. “I’m serious, if all else fails, may the gods’ grant you the perfect cock!” Na’eva said with a complete straight face. “Well, since we’re speaking on his member, I got to size him up first hand….I mean it wasn’t my intent but, things led to one another. You know, that’s besides the point, he’s a damn tease!” Na’eva sat there with a goofy grin, “Um, what the fuck sis?! TELL ME EVERYTHING.” The girls slipped into their respective gowns, “So you sat on his damn lap?” Ameerah turned sideways checking her reflection, “Yeah, that was the only way to win!” She said very matter of factly. “Poor mother Katherine, what kind of daughter is she inheriting?” Na’eva said flattening a crease in her dress. “She should be worried about her son, I believe he would have consumed me right then and there; servants be damned.” Na’eva smirked at that, “I still don’t see the problem?” She hated to admit it but, it sounded like a current problem of hers.
The evening came quickly. The boys chatted about the events to come, “All set, right?” jooheon asked. Kihyun adjusted his jacket; “Of course. I asked for a little help but, it was mostly me. My neck should survive our next encounter.” Jooheon shook his head, “Well, deep down I want to say that is the saddest thing that I’ve ever heard BUT, I’m mostly proud. Look at you, doing man stuff.” Kihyun scoffed, he knew he needed to mend any possible damage from earlier that day. He dared not speak that he was actually nervous; his ears always gave him away. “Let’s go, we don’t want to keep them waiting.” Kihyun took another deep breath and followed his cousin up the marble staircase.
Ameerah rubbed her newest cub’s round little belly, Nova was purring contentedly on her lap. She was such a precious little spirit, her paws were too damn soft. “Laila, has the castle been treating you well?” The big cat unfurled with a yawn onto its side, a lazy chirp left her. “Should I take that as an yes, my lovely lazy bones?” A knock sounded interrupting her, “Yes?” She spoke. “Princess, I’ve come to escort you to dinner.” Ameerah’s mouth went dry, was he really coming to fetch her for dinner? Her servants generally would do that. “Of course, you may enter.” Ameerah placed Nova onto the chaise’s cushion when, the door opened. “Wow, what a lovely sight you are.”
Jooheon said still holding onto the door knob. Ameerah brushed her gown to eliminate any possible creases. “My lord, you spoil me with your words; many thanks. Might I add, you look more handsome as the day passes.” She said stepping towards him. His cheeky grin was back, I t was the combination of her words and gown. She was rather bold in all aspects it would seem, a trait Jooheon was becoming more attracted to by the minute. “I think we compliment each other well princess, thank you.” Jooheon took in her silhouette, the silk outlined her in a mouth watering way. “See something you like, Sire?” She said with the same tone that became her on the boat. “Indeed, I’m curious about these; may I?” Ameerah breathed in his scent, it was different from earlier; it was soft but dark? When did he get this close, she thought? “Sure,” she answered before she realized what he was even talking about. His fingertips grazed over her hip, “I’ve never seen a piercing here before.” Ameerah silenced a shiver that was fighting to run rampant, “Ah, yes. I actually have two.” She grabbed his other hand and placed it on her hip, “See? You feel this one too?” Joohenon just nodded and enjoyed the quietness that sat between them, he unconsciously rubbed his thumbs into both of her dermal piercings. His cock was was turning him into a barbarian, all he could think of was slipping his hands underneath her dress’s slit. “Interesting, what made you choose these?” Ameerah smiled sheepishly, “My mother, she had the same piercings too.” Jooheon smiled, “Well someone is a softie.” The two laughed but didn’t move, the comfort that came from him holding her was addicting already. “Well, I believe if we don’t head down now, mother will send a search party after us.” Jooheon removed his hands but extended his elbow. Ameerah happily took it, she was excited for their first evening together.
“Highness, it’s lord Kihyun.” Na’eva sighed, what could he possibly want now? She almost didn’t respond but, she knew the servants would have something to gossip about if not. “A moment please!” Na’eva quickly adjusted her curls and straightened her back. “Enter.”
A servant opened the door with their head bowed. Kihyun stepped through looking even more delicious than before. I blinked trying to take in his appearance. His hair was swept back and his jawline looked as if it could cut. His dark eyes held mine as he walked in. “Good evening princess, I’ve come to walk you to dinner.” Na’eva wanted to roll her eyes, she could do that her damn self. Her resolve weakened as he spoke next with a smile, “I’m well aware that you don’t need me for that but, I’d like to redeem myself. I’m not the greatest with words but, hopefully my actions will speak much louder.” Kihyun looked almost shy, his ears were bright red. “I would like that very much.” Na’eva extended her hand and he took it.
The dinner table was grand, it really reminded the girls of back home. The table was filled with lots of familiar dishes, there was quite literally something for everyone. The giant navy velvet cushions were welcoming, along with the current guests seated. The chandeliers casted the room in comfortable glow. Ameerah and Jooheon entered the dining hall and the room fell silent. The attendees stood and bowed as the couple found their seats at the head of the table. Jooheon pulled the chair out for his queen. “Thank you,” Ameerah said adjusting her gown one final time before sitting. “You look stunning,” Katherine stated from across the table. Jooheon gave his mother a kiss on the cheek, “Doesn’t she mother?” Ameerah giggled, “Well, you’re certainly too kind. I hope all the wedding plans haven’t stressed you too much?” Ameerah spoke to Katherine. “Not in the slightest, I’ve been planning for this since many years ago. If anything, I believe I’m more excited than you two. It’s a mother’s pride and joy watching a child grow and marry.” Ameerha went to speak when the chair next to her moved. Kihyun was pulling the chair back for her sister to sit. “Nice of you to show up,” Jooheon said behind the brim of his glass. Once Kihyun was seated the conversation flowed effortlessly, the warmth amongst the household was very evident. Ameerah felt as though she could get used to this- not to mention the spread was delicious. “I’ll be sure to tell Ms. May how delicious this is,” Ameerah said preparing for another bite.
Dinner was promptly coming to a close when a servant nodded to both Jooheon and Kihyun. “Well mother, thank you for supper. The dining hall looks amazing, I can only imagine how everything will look tomorrow.” Jooheon guided Ameerah from her chair. “Pardon us, we’ll be having our dessert out here. The giant French doors were already open with sheer drapes fluttering in the evening’s wind. Jooheon escorted his fiancé onto the balcony and an gasp left her lips. “You did all of this? For me?” Na’eva and Kihyun smiled at the happy couple unconsciously. “I suppose that’s my queue, would you care for dessert outside as well? I’ve had a table prepared, that’s of course if you feel comfortable, princess.” Na’eva thought it over, the sourness of the day leaving her minute by minute. A part of her warred, would she be foolish and put herself in another volatile situation deliberately? Or, would she give this handsome man a second chance? Oddly enough his demeanor looked rather nervous….she hated to admit it but, his puppy eyes were working. “I would like that.” The smile Kihyun gave was radiant and it caused Na’eva to return it tenfold.
“This is gorgeous, you really outdid yourself Jooheon.” Ameerah took in all of the candlelight and delicious sweet options before her.
The sun had set not too long ago, casting the sky in a pretty shade. It was indeed wondrous how the sky was blanketing the two just right. “Who would have thought, you’re quite the romantic?” Jooheon smirked while rubbing his chin. “Let’s not tell the rest of the castle, I have a rep for being a bad boy.” The two shared a laugh. “Well, I’m certain the servants are well aware of this hidden weapon of yours.” He tilted his head, “Weapon?” Ameerah smirked, mhmmm; I see how the female servants ogle you.” Jooheon paused at her revaluation, “Is that jealously I hear, Queen?” His eyes starred into hers playfully, “Somehow, I think you would like that.” She said turning towards the scenery just beyond the balcony railing. “Pardon my bluntness but, I haven’t the slightest doubt that I’ve captured your eyes, you could’ve burnt a hole in my dress if you simply willed it so. Besides, I’ll soon hold your name and acquire your heart.” Ameerah walked to Jooheon and traced the ‘V’ of his blouse, “Just think, you have yet to even hold all of me. You can rest assured, wandering eyes are no threat to me.” Her hand cupped his chin gently. A lady may play well with others but, a woman knows how to keep her toys from becoming dull, Understood?” She said placing a soft kiss to his lips. “Yes.” Was all that he could muster, his focus was now on the growing tension within his pants. Jooheon kissed the back of her hand, “So the saying is true? That man is really that simple?” She joked. Jooheon dropped his head, all he wanted to do was take her to bed, “I fear you may be correct.” The two finally sat and began pouring wine, sweet hints of pear surrounded them. “It smells amazing, is this home gown?” Jooheon nodded as he poured his own glass. “Oh yeah, this is actually one of my creations. Believe it or not, wine making is rather relaxing; it’s one of my favorite pass-times.” Jooheon looked on excitedly as Ameerah took her first sip. “Wow, this is delicious….any other hidden talents I should know about.” Jooheon took a gingerly swig, “You’ll see first hand tomorrow evening.” Ameerah choked on the crisp liquid. “Highness!”
Nae’va followed behind Kihyun as he led them to their next destination. She was finally able to take in all of him, his shoulders sat rather tall complimented by a delectable span of neck. He was quite handsome in the day but, the way the moon was casting a shadow over his sharp side profile; Na’eva found herself starring even harder, he looked like perfection. “See something you like?” Kihyun said flashing a toothy grin. “What? N, No absolutely not. I was looking at the beading on your collar, it looks rather intricate.” She finished a little too quickly. “Ah, thank you. My mother had it made for my father when they were courting. Heh, kind of fitting for the evening, no?” He said glancing back; his eye were much different from earlier today- they seemed warm. “So, we’re courting now? Na’eva asked quickening her pace to match his. “If her highness finds it to her liking?” Na’eva smirked, “I believe it’s too soon to tell dear prince; besides, I still have no clue where you’re taking me. Atleast you’re allowing me to walk on my own…and the views are exquitie.” She said peeking over the never ending balcony. “What is that? The scent is lovely.” Na’eva asked closing her eyes and trying to place it. Kihyun stopped and looked at her, “Our table.” He said beaming from ear to ear. This was the first time he had ever done something like this….romantic. His palms were already starting to sweat.
Red and pink petals met Na’eva’s eyes as she looked down. “Roses…they’re lovely.” She said tiptoeing over the silky petals. They rounded the corner to a quaint stone gazeb; roses were cascading from the top and up it’s legs. The fact that this was tucked away in this little corner of the castle was beyond romantic. past Islet lace ran from one end of the table to the other, dessert was bountiful and the smell of fresh chocolate carried in the wind.
Shadows danced upon them both as candles surrounded the small table. “You did all of this for me?” Na’eva asked lifting a rose from the stem to her nose. Kihyun stepped closer, “Yes, it’s the least I could do. I know I’m not the greatest with words but, how I handled today was appalling. I’ll never treat you like that again, I’m sorry.” Na’eva reached for his hand, “Ki, I understand you’re under a lot of stress. I can’t imagine everything you’ve been going through; all alone at that. Listen, I’ve given your proposal some thought.. I’d be delighted to visit Peth with you.” Kihyun’s eyes widened and the first true genuine smile crossed his lips. “Under a few conditions, you’re to wine and dine me this evening.” Kihyun perked up at her request, “Oh? What else, my queen?” Na’eva plucked a a petal and rubbed it between her fingers. “You’re to fill me in on your plans with your father, if I’m to help; you’re to hear my suggestions.” Kihyun took a step closer to her, “Not even married and you’re already making demands?” Na’eva smirked, “You learn quick, maybe there’s hope for you yet, dear prince?”

THE NEW NORMAL
I showed the royal guest to the dining hall. “Please, make yourself at home; we have any and everything to be desired here. “Princess, would you like to visit your chambers? I know a journey by sea can be quite exhausting. Our servants can bring your meal, if you wish?” I clasped my hands as I scanned over our the new faces in the crowd. “Your majesty, thank you for your hospitality; I’d love to freshen up a bit if that’s alright?” I motioned towards her ladies and our guard. The princess seemed delighted enough, a trail of animals followed closely behind her. “It would seem that our zoo is expounding.” I sighed. Nitu alone was a handful, that cat had such a ‘quirky’ character; I glanced down at the scar on my inner palm. “Damn cat, biting the hand that fed it.” The sun shun brightly into the massive window pane causing me to squint; only then did I realize my eyebrows were furrowed. I downed some wine, and sat on my throne observing my ‘new normal.’ The Thearians appeared to be enjoying themself, live music started to play once everyone settled. A handsome face approached and gave me a bow, “Majesty, the honor is mine.” His hair was shoulder length and his bangs moved the more he did. “I can assure you the pleasure is all mine. With whom do I have the privilege of speaking?” I straightened my back, his eyes were piercing through me. “My name is Jamison, I’m an aid to king Okoro and his daughters. I’m originally from Peth, I was moved to Thear at an early age by request of the King.”
The young man stood and he was fairly tall. “Jamison, I could use a stroll, walk with me?” I sat my glass down and straightened my gown. I reached for his hand and he guided me down the few steps. “So, what do you think of Kydith?” I asked, “It’s lovely. What a blessing to have come at the prettiest time of year. I look forward to seeing more of this wondrous castle, the statues alone are magnificent.” He said eyeing a sculpture of Aphrodite.
“Are you familiar with this piece?” I questioned gently tracing over the marble block. “Of course, ‘The one from sea foam, the goddess of love.’ She’s one of my favorite Olympians.”
“Ah, for her beauty?” I asked looking up at him. “Not at all, for her weaknesses. She seems to be the most human out of them all. What’s more than human than wanting to be loved? She took multiple partners; showed her true self as vain, jealous and extremely bad tempered. There’s so many tales to learn from but, her’s keep me grounded. I try to never get ahead of myself and I’m still learning how to be content.” He circled to another statue but, this one was of Athena.
“I’m impressed, you’re different from most men; at least the ones I’m surrounded by. They all seem so blasé? Greedy? Selfish?” Jamison paused before he spoke, “If I may say so, it sounds as though you’re keeping company with the wrong gentlemen or should I say boys?” I only smirked at his candor, “Well, I can attest to that; my late husband never seemed to get it.” I was about to make a joke when Jamison dropped to the floor.....he was kneeling? Highness, my apologies, for my jesting was ill timed. Please let me grant you and your late husband my upmost respect.” As twisted as it sounds, I laughed. “Oh for Pete’s sake, get off your knees.” Jamison starred at me bewildered, “Highness?” I stuck my hand out to the young man, “I said off your knees. It’s refreshing to talk to someone who isn’t worried about my mental fortitude collapsing every time they speak.” Jamison slowly raised to meet my eyes, “Let’s make a pact now, you’ll always speak freely to me and I to you?” Jamison blinked at my proposition. “Well, we’re certainly not getting any younger”, I said cocking a brow. He stumbled into a response and it made us both laugh. “I would like that very much your Highness.” He said bowing respectfully. “Katherine, call me Katherine.” I said extending my hand.

I followed behind the same gentleman that helped guide the carriage. “So Sanson, how long have you been a general?” He glanced back over his shoulder, “This is my second year princess.” His frame was rather handsome, Ameerah had some lovely scenery for sure. “Ah, well it seems to suit you well. You’re men respect you greatly.” A slender hand ran through his hair, “Thanks, I’m lucky to have them.” He seemed extremely friendly, our conversation hadn’t been very long but; his demeanor was kind and welcoming. “Princess.” A smooth voice reached my ear, the sound alone made my goose flesh dance. I couldn’t quite make out the figure down the hall, Sanson spoke first “Lord Kihyun.” The two acknowledged each other all the while I sat there like a fly on a wall. My mouth was dry as I took a deeper look at the gentleman. He took my breath away. Granted, we had met before but, what I met now was a handsome man and not a boy.
“My lord, how nice it is to see you.” I know I’m supposed to bow but all I can do is stay put under his gaze. “Make sure her things reach her room.” He spoke towards Sanson. “Come.” Kihyun said turning abruptly. I almost tripped on my dress trying to keep up. My lord, where are we going? I was met with only silence. I cleared my throat sounding my annoyance at his disrespect, I slowed to a complete stop. Kihyun noticed and stopped. I was expecting and explanation but, all I got was a hand around my wrist pulling me behind him. “Hey take it easy, you don’t have to drag me.” I said snatching my hand back, Kihyun looked at me blankly “Fine, but we must hurry.” He led me down a corridor that was covered in blue crushed velvet, there was silver silk lining that webbed all over it. “This way,” Kihyun said holding a giant door open. I slowly stepped through dreading what was to come next. I glanced around, the room was practically empty. “Where are we?” Kihuyn made his way to a desk in the corner of the room. “You should make yourself comfortable, we may be here awhile.” I gulped, “Again, where are we?” He spared me a glance before crossing his legs under a desk, “My guest chamber, obviously.” My cheeks started to flush, why I hadn’t put that together yet was beyond embarrassing. No, no, why would I? It’s not normal for a prince to drag a princess to their chambers. “You do understand the kind of uproar this would cause if I was caught in here?” I was starting to lose my patience. “Do you take me for a fool? Of course I’m aware, besides we’re already betrothed. What’s the point of making a fuss if it’s just us? You can try screaming if you like, I doubt anyone would hear you.” He said with a petulant smirk. If he hadn’t been such an ass, I would probably find his sarcasm attractive. I sighed. “Why are you here? Aren’t you supposed to be arriving next week? I’ve already did what you’ve asked and packed for my brief stay in Peth.” Kihyun crossed his arms, “Things have changed, we need to act quickly.” I stepped to the desk, “Ok, enough of being cryptic Kihyun, am I coming to Peth or not?” A knock on the door startled me, “My lord, I’ve brought you lunch.”
“Thank you Alec, just leave it outside the door.” We both waited awhile before speaking. “Unfortunately, my father is out of his coma.” I wasn’t quite understanding, “long live the king, my lord that’s great ne-“
“Great news? Heh, the fools only been awake for a few days and already talking of war. The battle of brothers took a greater toll on our land and livestock then we first thought. See, King Tobias paid off our local merchants to slaughter any and all livestock. Who would have thought, our own people turning on their city? Granted we’re in the trading route but, King Tobias has been purchasing an obscene amount of seed and cattle from many passing merchants. By the time any goods arrive in Peth, their numbers are very slim. You can only imagine how our people are fairing, hunger is a root cause for most crimes. Father is beyond furious and feels that he should retaliate and make Kydith suffer a fate far worse than hunger.” I gulped, “Like what?” Kihyun made his way to the window and looked below. “Pure carnage. He won’t stop until he’s killed thousands, he wants Kydith to feel as helpless as he does.” I only stared trying to process the information. “This is madness, surely you jest? What resources does he have? Wasn’t the majority of your armies taken out? He surely wouldn’t have the man power? Thear’s army alone would demolish your kingdom in sheer hours.” I stepped towards him and placed my hand on the window seal. “Trust me, I’m well aware and so is he. That’s where you come in.” I kneed Kihyun in his jewels and quickly twirled his ascot around his neck. He let out a grunt and crumbled onto his knees. I pulled him back against my chest. “Should I break your neck or just slit it?” Kihyun tapped my arm asking for a silent reprieve, “Hmm? You know I find it extremely rude when people don’t answer me.” Kihyun whipped his head back hitting my chin, it startled me just enough that my grip loosened. I rushed to my feet and readied myself for whatever was coming next. “Fuck, are you always like this?” Kihyun gasped, crouched over. “Just when it comes to the people I care about.” I said quite matter of factly. Kihyun chuckled and dusted off his pants, “Well then, it’s nice to see where your priorities lie. I have to admit as my future queen I won’t accept you flying off the handle like that, you’ll do well to keep that in mind.” He finally adjusted the knot around his neck. I only looked at the man, he had completely lost his mind. “You won’t allow me? You talk of me as property; you’ve claimed nothing but my disdain dear prince.” Kihyun blinked at me, his pointy tooth peeked over his lip as he rubbed his chin. “ Regardless of what you’re thinking, I didn’t come here to fight. I’m in search of a confidante that will do whatever is necessary to protect Peth, I assumed it’s next queen would be the perfect start.” I relaxed a bit as his words washed over me, “I’m listening.”
“Highness.” Said a young male trimming some hedges in the garden; his eyes we’re all but bulging out of his skull, it was probably due to the sight of myself and Jooheon soaked to the bone. Regardless, we both gave the youngster a cheeky smile and proceeded into the gardens. “Well, I say this is one for the history books?” Jooheon said, still wringing out his long sleeves. “ I think you’re right; any idea what you’re mom will say?” I smiled back, the grass felt so good on my feet. I looked into the sun and she kissed both my cheeks, it was pleasantly warm today.
“GOOD HEAVENS, WHAT’S HAPPENED TO YOU?” Katherine called from a bench tucked behind a wall of roses, she had been sitting with Jamison. I felt like such a naughty child under her gaze; poor Jamison , he was sucking on his teeth trying to not laugh. “Ah, mother there you are, there’s no need for concern; we just can’t let Ameerah to steer the boat again.” He said straight faced. I playfully socked his arm, and we both laughed. “Now if you’ll excuse us, I need to show her the rest of the castle.” Jooheon grabbed my hand and ran past them both. Katherine called out behind us, “Watch out for my Persian rugs, we just had them cleaned!” I starred as his muscles rippled under his wet shirt, I had no clue where he was leading me- but, for some reason I didn’t care as long as we were together.

GETTING ACQUAINTED
“How about the gardens my queen; we can have a light meal?” Ameerah’s Hazel eyes lit up at my suggestion, her hands felt so soft in mine. I tried to be a gentleman and only pay attention to her face as she spoke but, her long legs peeked with every step in that dress. We had a casual stroll through the garden’s maze, “How was your journey, not too tiring I hope?” Ameerah stopped and pulled us to a cluster of Orchids, “It was actually quite enjoyable. I played cards both days, caught on some reading and even had time to spoil my little ones.” I traced the petals of one of the flowers before plucking it. “Little ones?” I flexed a dimple, she seemed to like that earlier. “Oh yes, I have two cheetah’s. Father just gifted me one as an farewell gift.” There was a flash of something in her eyes, sadness? Longing? I placed the flower behind her ear and held her chin. “Ameerah, what’s mine is yours and hopefully what’s yours is mine; that means even the things that ail you. You understand?” The weight on her shoulders visibly lifted, “Yes my King.” Her smile hit me like an arrow, “Good. Can you stomach another boat ride, my lady?”
“My lord, this is beautiful!” She said smiling from ear to ear, “I’m glad you like it, I had many of your land’s fruit and vegetation planted here. I want you to lack for nothing, my queen. I hope you enjoy.” I held her hand as she entered the boat, careful not to step on her dress. The pond’s wind picked up, bouncing her delicious scent over me; I closed my eyes and swallowed. She sat down moving the fur throw and pillows to her liking, the slits in her dress started to move. I’ll admit it, I gawked....I am gawking, her skin looks so soft. “Aren’t you going to sit with me?” Ameerah asked. “What you miss me already?” I teased, “I assure once I get us to a nice spot, I’m all yours.” She laughed at me again, and It was quickly becoming my favorite sound. I watched as she leaned her head back and relished in the sun’s glow, this was a perfect day for a boat ride. “So tell me something, when is our rematch?” I asked slowing my row. “To what are you referring?” she asked sampling a bright red strawberry, my eyes followed the juice running down her hand. She was so damn beautiful. “See something you like?” She purred smoothly while crossing her legs. “Actually, yeah.” I said laying the oars inside the boat. “Well, I do like a man who know’s what he wants.” I stood walking carefully not to disturb the steadiness of the boat. Her eyes casted a silent spell on me; I took my jacket off and laid it on the nearest benches. The only sound I could hear was the gentle ushers of the pond’s water. She looked up through the length of her lashes as I stood above her now, I placed both hands beside her on the backrest of the bench. She didn’t flinch, almost daring me to go further....and further I went. My head touched against hers as I pulled the champagne from the iced bucket behind her. “Got it.” I said looking at her with the same smirk that got me spanked over mother’s knee. She cocked her jaw, “Well played your highness. I see your reputation precedes you.” She stood taking off her dainty heels, lets see if my reputation holds just as true. Fight me.” All I could do is blink at her, she picked up a floating branch by the side of the boat. She promptly broke it in half. “This’ll do,” She tossed one half of the branch to me and I caught It. “Loser swims back, “She said pointing her stick back to the shore. “Haha.” “Oh, wait are you serious?” I said getting more excited by the minute. I hadn’t felt like this since we were kids. “Deadly.” I couldn’t help but give her a once over, “What about your dress?” She looked down, “I wouldn’t be so concerned I’ll be arriving back via boat your highness, your trousers might make for an uncomfortable swim though.” I couldn’t believe her overflowing confidence, it was beyond sexy. “I guess I’ll let you swim in just your briefs?” I chuckled at how this date was starting to turn out, “I see there’s never a dull moment with you?” I rolled up my sleeves and positioned myself to take her on. “Disappointed?” She asked taking her stance. “Heh, not in the slightest.
I took a wide swing in her direction, hoping to size her up a bit. Again she didn’t flinch, just drank me in. I tested my chances again, pretending the boat’s wobble made me unsteady; I lunged as she tried to adjust to the ships gait. Ameerah stumbled and grabbed the side of the boat to sturdy herself, all the while I charged at her. Her face shifted from being disoriented to a wicked grin. Her long legs became my undoing, my chest met with her foot and it made me gasp. In the blink of an eye I stumbled on one of the nearby oars and planted my back against the wood flooring. An unimaginable view welcomed me, her standing above me, her legs bent to straddle me and I could feel myself becoming aroused. Her heat was grazing over me and that’s all I could focus on. Her pretty little hand positioned the stick to my neck, “I’ll be taking this, thank you.” Ameerah started to unbutton the shirt I had on, she didin’t bat an eye. “So what, I’m two for two now?” She asked pulling my shirt from my trousers. “No way we’re even, if I recall I beat you all those years back. I have still have the scar to prove it; you almost took off my head with that stick!” I said sitting up on my elbows. “Almost? That head shot cost my lovely skin, I still have a scar.” She laughed pushing me back down again, the stick gently trailed to the top of my pants. A silent wind hushed over the two of us and neither of use moved. I snaked my hand behind her head and pushed her down to me; her breast laid into my chest. Ameerah dropped the stick and leaned down even further, I could feel her breath on my lips. “Do you want it?” She asked readjusting her heat on me. “Mmh, yes.” That was all I could manage, a sly hand slid up to my lips and to my surprise it was holding a mango slice. A heavy sigh left me, as my head hit the floor in defeat. “You are a devious woman, you know that?” Ameerah stood up outstreching her hand, “And you a fool for thinking that I’m that easy.” I panicked a bit, “I would never presume such a thing- honest!” She laughed yet again, “Alright, let’s see if you find this funny.” I rushed her pulling her over the side of the boat. The water warm, “Not so tough now, huh?” Ameerah’s head floated just above the water with her feathers and I couldn’t hold back my shit eating grin. “You do realize you have to go to sleep sometime, right?” She said swimming towards me. My smile faded at her not so veiled promise. “What? This is great exercise; plus, who am I to deprive you of a good time?” I splashed her. She turned her head with an appalling look. “Oh, it’s on your majesty!”
We splashed around for a bit, I even bumped the boat trying to escape her watery wrath. My heart felt so light with the sound of laughter and our splashing being the only noise around. I silently swam to the back of the ship and held my breath. I was hoping I could catch my breath, the girl was practically a fish in water. I held my breath trying to keep all noise to a minimum when suddenly, arms and legs wrapped around me from behind. In an instant, my vision went from sky to bubbles. Quick arms snaked around my neck and long legs around my waist, she was determined and that was for sure. As we both sank beneath the water I tried to unravel her legs from mine but, her dress was acting as a net between us both. I tapped her leg signaling that I was ready to come up. “Okay...Okay you win!” I gasped, there was always something about being in the water that tuckered me out. “What was that, I couldn’t hear you over the water in my ears”, she smirked knowing good and well she was lying. I splashed her once more before climbing into the boat. My clothes were completely drenched, my pants were struggling to even stay up. Ameerah swam by the edge of the boat and I offered her my hand and pulled her over the ledge. If I thought her dress was right before then, I was clearly mistaken. The dress left little to the imagination, I watched as her hips and breast swelled under the wet fabric with each breath, the beading and sequence glistened in the sun’s glow. “Here you can dry off with this”, I tossed her one of the throws laying beside my feet and she caught it. I could feel my eyes lingering a little longer than I intended but, she was so damn gorgeous. She started to wring her dress out and something interesting peeked from beneath. “What do we have here?” Ameerah looked confused as I stepped towards her pointing at the tattoo showing just above her slit, it appeared as though the tattoo sat on her hip. I wasn’t able to make out the majority of it but, my imy rest was definitely peeked. Ameerah dried her hair the best she could, “You weren’t supposed to see that before our consummation, our secret, yea?” She laughed. I nodded and raked the water from my hair, I hate to say that I felt my trousers fit snugger at the mention of the wedding night. “Ready to head back? I could use some dry clothes.” I asked beginning to row.

THE ARRIVAL

Na’eva woke to the ship taking on deep waters, the ship bobbed and so did the overhead lighting. “Who am I kidding, just go ahead and get up.” Sofia laid at the bottom of the bed having none of the current commotion, the only thing that moved was her tail. “Like mother like daughter, hmm?” Na’eva could only smile as the animal still didn’t budge. A quick peek into her window showed that is was early dawn, “Today’s the day, huh little sis?” After putting on a light Summer dress, Na’eva made her way towards the top deck, the fresh smell of scones and and pork hit her nose as she passed the Galley. “Smells incredible.” A few guards noticed the princess and cleared they way for her to pass, she gave them a polite nod and proceeded on her way. The misty air kissed her nose first, the silence dawn brought was peaceful; the ship was headed into the suns alluring glow- almost like it was headed into a new beginning. “Thought I’d find you up here”, Na’eva smiled at the familiar voice. “Early bird catches the worm”, she said turning to face him. “Hmmm, I’m confused....does that make me the bird?” Jamison said. The two shared a laugh, “I’m sorry I’ve been so distant.” Jamison was the next to take his place at the ships rails, “Is it really just about your sister or him?” Na’eva looked at her feet, “Am I really that see through?” She responded, looking him in the eye. “Just with me, princess. Come on, it’s just us; won’t you tell me about it?” Na’eva sighed and gripped the rail, “Kihyun is supposed to be at the wedding.” Jamison nodded, “Okay, and...?” She fought with the best way to handle any of the information she knew, “He asked that I come and visit his kingdom for a few days.” He nodded again, still trying to process everything. “Jamison, whatever we are, or whatever this is; it has to stop.” Jamison could feel his jaw clench, he wasn’t a fool- he knew all along the princess could never truly belong to him. “Tell me, why now?” Na’eva swept her hair back, “Would it really be any easier if we ended this a month from now? A year? Jamison, I”, warm lips caressed hers. For a brief moment she forgot where she was, and the only thing she wanted was to stop time for awhile. “Princess, we talked about this remember?” Na’eva placed her hands to his chest, “I told you, we wouldn’t give this a name; it was supposed to make this easier.” The two shared a pained expression.
“Uh, good morning you two; everything okay?” Ameerah asked confused. “Just catching up; how’d you sleep?” Ameerah rolled her eyes, “Wha’t sleep? I’m only meeting my king and people today. I think I slept for just a few hours, maybe?” Jamison patted the soon to be queen on the shoulder, “You’ll only live this day once, no regrets- okay?” Na’eva spoke up next, “Is it too early for a celebratory drink?” Ameerah laughed, “LUSH!!!!!” The trio enjoyed another round of drinks as they watched the sunrise.
“Just over that horizon, the world I know will forever change.” Ameerah laid her head into her sister’s lap, her sister began to play with her tresses. “Speaking of your new horizon, have you decided on what we’re doing with your hair?” Na’eva said pulling her sister’s hair into make believe hairstyles, “How does that have anything to do with-“, Na’eva placed her finger on her sister’s lips. “Shhhh, just answer the question.” The afternoon came swiftly, along with tide pushing the boat closer to shore. Ameerah’s ladies were fast at work slipping the gown up her arms. “Could this be any tighter?” Na’eva responded, “Of course, I assumed you’d be miserable, If we did anything else to the dress.” Ameerah was gearing up to respond when some of the dresses’ feathers went in her mouth. “Don’t think this is over,” Ameerah said furrowing her brows.
The boat was slowing to a halt and the crewman were running to their respective places. The captain shouted an order for the men to adjust the sails and the boat slowed tremendously. “Wow, look at it.” Ameerah said all but on her tippy toes, “It’s stunning.” The island was so colorful and lush, even though a few buildings looked as though it had been scarred from war. There were thousands of homes peeking from the cliffs, the red roofs made for such a spectacular sight. The castle was nowhere to be seen, that just solidified how massive her land was. “Your highness, we’ll be docking shortly.” Ameerah gave the captain a nod and looked back out over her land. “Look”, Jamison said pointing a finger to the cove that opened up the closer they got. “Well, someone looks happy to see you.” He said smiling harder.
Ameerah squinted at the scenery before her, there were hundreds- no thousands of people waving blue handkerchiefs out of their home’s windows, the wind carried their loving cry’s of a welcome. Ameerah started waving back ecstatically. A handful of kids caught Ameerah’s eye as they chased the length of the boat on shore- they had their handkerchiefs raised high. Her heart was fluttering with excitement, she took a deep breath and admired all the faces she could make out as they ship docked. “Ready?” Jamison and Na’eva asked. “As I’ll ever be.” She said with her chest puffed out and back entirely straight.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————
I waited not so patiently by the cargo door in my carriage, all of my horsemen lined up in accordance to how we rehearsed many times. A lovely song drifted through the ship, but it wasn’t from my crewman. It was from the monstrous crowd outside. At this point it was impossible to smile any wider. A wet nose nudged my palm, “Hi sweet girl, are you finally awake?” Nova yawned and blinked sleepily. “Is it all the noise?” The cub stretched and closed it’s eyes again. “It must be nice to live that carefree.”
I felt Laila snuggle her chin into my lap as well, “I gave you half of the bench, there’s no way I’m sitting you on my lap too!” My conversation came to a quick halt as the ship’s door let in an plethora of light, I squinted as the sun bounced off the carriages’ glass. Before I knew it we started moving, “You got this sis!” Na’eva said from her side of the coach. The crowd of people grew into the most spectacular view, all the townspeople we’re signing and dancing, many waving excitedly. Amongst the thousand of faces a particular one came into view, a mighty handsome one at that. The beautiful man starred down at me from an all black horse. “Highness, welcome. I’m General Sanson, my men an I will be escorting you back to the castle.” I could only blink at the general and his blinding smile, his features reminded me of a wolf- maybe even a fox? “Thank you, we’re in your hands.” The General gave a deeper smile followed with a nod. His horse trotted just out of sight of my window, very careful not to block the view of the people. I tried rather hard to not notice the way he kept his eyes tuned on me as I waved out the window.
The land was so full of life, wether it was the wildlife or the people. We passed several historical sites that I recall reading about in my history books. I heard they would be even more beautiful in person and I can honestly say, the story books does them no justice. The sounds of the city was different from what I knew, the cobblestone- giving way to where we’ve been and where were going, the live music echoing off the giant castle like structures, the glorious smell of fresh bread and flowers...A queen could get used to this. “Alright, it’s official...I’m jealous.” Na’eva said laughing. “Oh please, you....FUCK ME THAT’S BIGGER THAN I REMEMBER!!!!” I said, covering my mouth quickly. A laugh followed by a cough came from my right, Sanson. “Wait until you see the inside your highness.” He said speeding past the carriage with a smirk. He motioned for some men to take his place. The carriage took a relatively steep turn and the the castle came into view in it’s entirety. Stunning? Breath taking? Fucking gigantic? Check yes to all of the above.
The carriage slowed ever slightly, “I can’t believe it’s this beautiful” said Na’eva. “Agreed, I guess we couldn’t appreciate the true atmosphere at such an early age.” The castle was surrounded by a gilded gate, decorated with to the very tip with crowns and foliage. A command echoed through the air causing the soldiers to come to a completed stop. I poked my head to the window and saw Sanson directing the guards to open the gates. The carriage jostled forward and I knew there was no turning back.
We passed through the gated threshold only to be greeted with hundreds of soldiers standing at attention with their Calvary swords pointed sky high. I looked both left and right and the soldiers created a lovely pathway “Look at this welcome committee, there’s so many people.” I said holding my baby cheetah tighter. Trumpets blared and I caught myself smiling yet again. All of this was for me, I was already gushing and I hadn’t even laid foot outside of this carriage. We came to one last stop and it made my breath hitch. A nobleman approached my door with a step stool, he placed it just beneath my side. He finally opened the door and bowed to me, “Welcome to Kydith Highness.”
As my right foot landed on the pavement, I reveled in the warm winds touching my face. I took the first step towards the gigantic castle that was now my home. A rather tall and devilishly handsome gentleman stood not too far off, he was surrounded by several unfamiliar faces however, he was the only face I couldn’t take my eyes off of. “His smile is brighter than the sun.” I said a little louder than I intended. I could feel my stomach doing flips as his eyes took me in and in that moment I became increasingly aware of how much my dress didn’t necessarily hide. Call me crazy but, I don’t think he minds?
“Well, I almost didn’t recognize you, there’s no mud.” Jooheon said smiling even harder and strolling towards me. He was mesmerizing, even down to the way he moved. “I do have to say, this look becomes you my queen.” The sun danced in his eyes as he tilted his face down towards me.
My mouth almost went dry, he was even more breathtaking up close. “I suppose the same could be said for you my king? I see you’ve grown into those adorable ears of yours.” Jooheon smirked, “You think I’m adorable?” I rolled my eyes playfully at his cheesy charm and laughed. “There it is,” he said slipping a stray hair behind my ear. “I’ve heard countless tales of how beautiful your smile has become, how you could stop a war of more than a thousand men if you truly wanted to.” I went to swallow yet again but my mouth had nothing in it, I blinked a reply as a blush touched my cheeks. “My lord, you’re too kind- thank you.”
*Ahem* “Princess welcome, won’t you come inside for some refreshment?” The queen mother asked in a warm tone. It was odd, she hadn’t aged a bit- almost like those stories you hear of vampires. Her crown was covered in rubies and emerald, illuminating the brown of her eyes. “I would like that very much; would you accompany me my lord?” Jooheon extended his arm and guided us through the throng of people in the courtyard. Many bowed and curtseyed as we passed, I locked eyes with a handsome young man in fine dress. He had sharp features and dark hair; he looked regal amongst the crowd. I wonder who he is? My thoughts were quickly derailed when the sound of a rather large cat boomed from behind the giant door. “Ah, that’s Nitu; she’s harmless...most of the time.” The beautiful cat slinked down the entry stairs, Jooheon called the cat to him. “Just stay by me, she’ll want to check you out.” I was no stranger to animals but, I’d never seen a panther in person. I nodded and waited. Nitu made her way towards me, she started to sniff at my shoes and then my hip. Her ears started to flicker with curiosity or hesitation, I’m still not 100% sure? Jooheon whispered into my ear, and I felt my heart flutter again. “She likes you.” His smile was accentuated with his deep dimples, “How can you tell?” He winked at me, “Because you still have all of your fingers and toes.” I let that register for a moment, “Good point.” Once Nitu was bored with all of the commotion she made her way into the courtyard to sunbathe and then the tour continued. The castle was every bit as beautiful as one could hope, painted ceilings and marble veined floors we’re just the beginning. The halls were full of freshly placed flowers and crisp linens, my eyes didn’t really know where to settle.
“Ah, um, your majesty’s”, a shocked male voice said. He was a bit disheveled, he scurried to bow while he tucked his shirt in.
“Ah Baekhyun, there you are; I missed you at the welcoming ceremony.” Said a voice that I was starting to become familiar with, Sanson. Jooheon looked more entertained than upset with the banter between the two. “Oh, uh...I was out riding!” Sanson crossed his arms over his chest, “Who?” I choked a laugh and so did Jooheon. Sanson grabbed Baekhyun by his collar and pulled him past us, “Pardon us your majesty.”

Dotted I’s and crossed T’s
“Sanson.” The dark haired general turned at the mention of his name. “Yes your highness?”
He replied. “Any word from the men in the city?” Jooheon asked straightening his sleeves. “No, only that the city is quiet; there hasn’t been any suspicious activity my lord.” Jooheon nodded, “Good, I want to send few more men to the shore; make sure they’re disguised. One can’t be too careful.” Sanson responded “Of course my lord.” “How are my people?” Sanson smiled, “They’re elated, many of them haven’t laid eyes on your queen since years ago. The majority of the rice has been purchased by the townspeople, I suspect Queen Ameerah’s arrival will be spectacular.” Jooheon patted the general on the shoulder, “I do hope so. It warms my heart that the people are ready for a new start.” Sanson returned the King’s smile, “Indeed, you may be a king of only a few days but, you have the heart and mind of a born leader. We’re lucky to have you majesty.” Sanson took a knee and smiled deeply. “I can always count on you to be honest when no one else will. You remember our pact don’t you?” Jooheon said with a more serious tone. “Highness, it’ll never come to that, please-“, Jooheon silenced his friend with another hand upon his shoulder. “I mean it.” Jooheon said holding his eyes, “Yes my lord.”
“Now, how’s training coming? Jooheon asked walking towards one of the many courtyards. “Training is going, we’ll be ready for the parade tomorrow.” The king nodded, “What about the new recruits? Have they been showing great prospect?” A chuckle left the general, “I believe we have a prodigy on our hands. His name is Baekyun, age 26. He’s been swiftly moving up the ranks, he’s shown great strength and aptitude in all weaponry. He’s almost as good as me.....almost.” Sanson grinned.”
“What’s his personality like?” Jooheon asked turning a corner. “He’s a cheeky little bastard, that’s for sure. I often find him in bed with different women around the castle with his...*cough*...’sword’, unsheathed.” I’m not sure which is to be feared more, his cock or sword your highness.” The two laughed and continued. “Well, keep an eye on him would you? We don’t want him scaring off the new house guest.” Sanson grinned and agreed.
Jooheon walked amongst his men, many of them we’re engaged in mock battle. Some we’re in the process of cleaning and sharpening their weapons and the others were practicing formations. He’d be lying if he said that the sight of his army didn’t excite him. It had taken some time, even under his father for the men to sharpen in their senses, instincts and fighting. Jooheon almost didn’t recognize his men and it made him incredibly proud, no doubt it would make his queen happy as well. All that Jooheon wanted to do was make her fellow army as comfortable as possible. All of the surrounding nations were too aware of how fierce Thear soldiers were in battle; it would be such a high honor to spar with at least one. The king had a brief flashback to him and Ameerah fighting as kids, “Hmm, I can’t wait for our rematch.”
The boat ride wasn’t so bad, they had been at sea all day. The crew had a delicious meal of Shrimp and lamb with a heavy side of wine. “Ameerah, it’s your turn!” Ameerah laughed and shook her head no, “No, because the last time we played I saw more of Jamison than I wanted to.” Jamison swept his hair out of the way, “Aww, what a shame for your king; I hope you see more than me in that consummation bed.” A thick pillow knocked Jamison closer towards some barrels, “Hush and discard you dipshit.” Ameerah said angrily. Jamison played his hand and the two girls laughed, “Take it off big boy, show us what you’re working with!” Na’eva shouted over the rim of her cup. The card game went just as expected The three of them sat almost in their underwear and laughed about the good ol’ days. “You remember when father threatened to hang you Jamison?” The girls snorted into their glasses, “Hell would freeze over before you forget a Kong’s threat.” He lost himself in the memory. “Well, it served you right for fooling around with that seamstress in father’s chariot.” Ameerah said snuggling into the fur throw. “The poor girl sounded like a dying animal, we could practically hear her from the castle.” Na’eva bit her lip and looked anywhere but at Jamison. “Heh, we’ll see how much devilment you and Jooheon get into tomorrow- you’re a sucker for dimples.” Jamison said punching Ameerah. A tiny growl came from the baby cub that shared the same blanket as Ameerah, “Good girl, can you say bad asshole?” The three enjoyed the atmosphere of the evening and reminisced on more of their childhood together.
“It’s late, I’m turning in. Na’eva said kissing her sister on the cheek. “Awww, you always crash first.” Ameerah said pulling at her sister’s dress, “Someone has to wake you lushes up.” Na’eva wished them both a goodnight and made way to her chamber. Na’eva shedded her dress and slipped underneath the covers. “You know, you could at least knock.” She said rolling over to face the door. “Are you lost?” She smirked. Jamison stood in the faint light that the small window provided, his shadow bounced off the walls from the flame.

“You tell me, you’ve been wandering around like a lost puppy these past couple of days.” Jamison said pulling his shirt over the top of his head, this caused Na’eva to sit up. “I told you, I’m still processing what it’s like to lose a sister.” She said trying to convience him. “Na’eva, I’ll kiss every inch of you until I find this deep dark secret of yours. Jamison said crawling onto the bed, “I, I’m really tired Jamison; I’m sorry. Now’s not really a good time.” Ameerah touched his chest, she wanted him to stay but, he had to go. “Can’t we finish this discussion in the morning; over tea perhaps?” Jamison closed his eyes at yet another blatant lie, “Fine, I bid you a good evening princess.” Jamison grabbed the discarded garment and didn’t look back.

Sun Queens-“For heaven’s sake, the linens don’t match!”
“Come back, where are you taking those?” Queen Katherine asked exasperated. “I’m taking these to the dining hall, madame.” The servant replied holding a vase filled with Aconite.
“Why on earth would you place those anywhere in the castle? We’ve been over this, as one of my ladies I expect you to know which flowers are appropriate and which aren’t.” Katherine brushed some of her fly away hairs, “Tell me what does this flower represent?” The poor servant looked around for any kind of assistance but, the other workers knew better. “Um...loyalty?” The the Servant whispered. “I can’t hear you, speak up child; I don’t have all day.” “Loyalty the young woman shouted.” Her heart was pounding as she noticed one of Katherine’s other ladies grimace at her answer. “Vivian, what’s the aconite’s true definition.” Katherine asked without taking her eyes off of the servant. “It means hatred and to be cautious.” “Good, it’s nice to know someone has been paying attention in their studies. Vivian, take the afternoon off.” Katherine plucked a flower and sniffed it, “Gorgeous as they may be I don’t want a single one in my sight or the guests. Do you hear me girl?” The servant nodded before the queen could even finish her sentence. “Go hurry, we’re running out of time.”
“Mother, that was a little harsh; don’t you think?” A smooth voice said approaching the queen from behind. “Not at all, it builds character.” Katherine turned and cupped her son’s face lovingly, “How are you my son? Did you sleep well?”
Jooheon nodded and smiled at his mother, “I slept like a king.” He said flashing a dimple. His mother patted his cheek, “Good, breakfast is ready. You’re cousin is out by the gardens, I don’t think he’s eaten yet- make sure you remind him.” “Mom, why don’t you come and have some tea; it may do your nerves well.” Jooheon said, trying to persuade her. He loved his mom dearly but, she didn’t know how to ‘not’ be in control. Jooheon wasn’t a fool, if he was one of her personal servants- he’d be miserable too. He smiled to himself, that would be one of the first things he changed as king, reigning in the Queen mother. “Cute, my nerves will settle once your fiancé gets here and gives me a healthy male heir. Until then, run along and eat son.” Jooheon sighed and shook his head. “For heaven’s sake, who put on these linens?” Katherine asked pushing past her son, she held up the offensive fabric. Vivian slowly raised her hand, “Ladies for the 100th time, we don’t mix stripes. I need all of these taken off, someone grab the cashmere runners instead. This is Peruvian oak, it’s a crime to cover it entirely.” The room scrambled into a frenzy, “Oh, and Vivian dear; would you mind staying this afternoon? it looks like you’ll be busy after all.”
Jooheon pushed the door to his dinning hall, a fierce yawn greeted him. “How do you always beat me to breakfast?” The black cat strolled over to it’s owner, she pushed her face into his thigh, it almost knocked him back.
“Easy girl, I’ll pet you.” The feline purred deeply at his comforting tone and continued to nestle into him. Jooheon skimmed over the table and what it had to offer, he settled on some ham and bread with a splash of wine. He pocketed a couple of apples for later. Nitu watched him closely, “You can have the turkey leg if you sit.” The cat stood looking at him while she licked her chops. “Sit Nitu.” The cat plopped onto it ‘s belly and kept licking it’s extra pointy teeth. “Well shit, we’ll work on that later.” The turkey leg never hit the floor, Nitu caught it mid-air. “Good girl.” “My lord, a letter has arrived for you.” A tall young man said with a golden tray. “MM, thank you”, the king said with a full mouth.
“Tell the general to commence with training, I’ll stop by later to observe.” The young man nodded and left. Nitu lead the way to one of their many gardens, and to his surprise his cousin sat.
“Good morning sleeping beauty, did a little birdie wake you?” Kihyun said glancing up from his book. Jooheon shoved his cousin playfully before having a seat beside him. “Here you, eat. If mother finds out I didn’t feed you she’d make me hang tapestries.” Jooheon presented a giant green apple. Kihyun took a bite, the apple was rather crisp. “Thanks, so what’s on the agenda today- your highness?” Jooheon cringed, “It gives me chills when you call me that, stop it.” Jooheon faked a shiver. “Fine, what’s on the agenda Jackass?” Jooheon raised his eyebrow and stood, “Apparently beating your ass, draw your sword shrimp.”
The afternoon passed swiftly, the boys enjoyed the shade of a weeping willow. “Are you nervous about meeting her?” Kihyun asked leaning into a stretch. “Yeah, unbelievably so. I can still picture her smile as a kid, I thought she was the prettiest thing I’d ever seen.” Jooheon said rubbing the back of his neck, looking into the distance. “Oh, really? Heh, I heard she has legs for days, beautiful brown ringlets and those hazel eyes that pierce.” Kihyun looked into his book innocently, “Hey, Hey, she’s mine remember!” The men let out one of many laughs they shared for the day. “Is your mother ready to meet her again?” Jooheon leaned back into he tree, “ Well, I can say this much; she’s more than ready to meet her grandson.” Jooheon rolled his eyes, “I’ve been privy to Katherine slipping things into father’s drinks one too many times.....she has an entire trunk full of cocktails, to make anyone do almost anything. I can guarantee there’s something in there for fertility.” Nitu finally made her way over to the shade, she gave Kihyun a lick on the cheek, just before climbing up the tree to sleep. “Am I going to have to do everything myself? Look at these shrubs; do they look square to you? No, THIS IS A RECTANGLE!!!!” Katherine’s voice rang out through the vast garden, the wind had a way of carrying every singe syllable. The two men scurried to their feet and hid deeper within the garden’s maze. “I refuse to reshape shrubs!” Jooheon whispered, “It’s your mother and besides, I’m guest remember?!” Jooheon retorted, “Guest my ass!”

Sun Queens- “Departure”
“My head is fucking killing me.” Amerrah said blocking the sun from her eyes. “I thought you might say that, here drink up.” Na’eva stood holding a glass of pure poison. “Nope, no way. I’m not drinking that death in a cup!” Her older sister sighed, “You have a two day journey by boat; do you really want to take your drinking spell along to?” Amerrah’s kicked her feet and held out an arm, she still refused to look into the light. “It’s just ginger, garlic and egg whites, right?” She asked holding her nose and raising the glass to her lips. “No ma’am, it’s strawberry, pineapple and mango.” Na’eva said lying through her teeth. “Mhmmm, I wish.”
A wretched sound came from deep within Ameerah, “I’m gonna- o-oh god!” She grabbed the leftover food bowl that laid at her bedside and emptied her stomach. “Better?” Her sister asked rubbing her back. “A little”, Ameerah said between heaves. “I’ll have your ladies bring some lavender, rose, honey and chamomile tea; that’ll settle your stomach.”
After a several more stomach empties and a good hot cup of tea, Ameerah made her way to the bath. The warm lick of the water was just what she needed. She submerged herself for a few seconds and let the scent of honey and vanilla engulf her.
She couldn’t believe that this would be the last time she’d set foot in bath here for a good while. Ameerah racked her brain trying to recall just what Kydith’s castle looked like. Visions of their golden gate flooded her mind, ocean and the old wine cellar she used to play hide-n-seek in. Ameerah scrubbed her hair thoroughly. She wondered, would she just fit right in? Would she just be accepted by her people? Ameerah had been trained from infancy to be prepared for any outcome but, she couldn’t help but ponder. “That’s what makes a good queen.” She could practically see her father etching that statement into her with a knife and hammer. She smiled and took a quick swim around the bath; Father had been so patient and loving with her. A lady stepped forward with a all black robe and presented it with a curtesy. “Thank you Breanne. Ameerah tied the bow and headed to be dressed and fed.
“Ah, so I see you survived?” Said the kind king eating a fluffy pastry for breakfast. “Yea, something like that...” Ameerah responded, trying to find the appetite to eat something from the table. “Unfortunately, I’ve trained you in every way but wine; this is one lesson you’ll have to learn on your own.” Ameerah smiled, “Trust me when I say I only need one lesson.” A servant came and filled her glass with water. There was a part of her that wanted to drink but, the other half of her wanted nothing but to lay still. Laila’s paws patted across the tiled floor of the dining hall, she let out a loud yawn. “Good morning you, I haven’t seen you all evening; what have you been up to?” The sweet animal laid it’s head upon it’s owners lap. “Still no answer I see, you seem mighty suspicious missy.” Ameerah said scratching underneath the animals chin and earning a mighty loud purr. “Papa, what time does my fleet depart?” The king cut a slice of lamb and dipped it into a whipped cranberry drizzle with with chestnuts. “A little before noon, does that suit you my queen.” Ameerah rolled her eyes playfully, “Yes father. You know I’m going to miss our breakfasts together, right?” The king felt his heart ache at the comment. “Dearest , you know you can always write to me, and I to you?” Of course she knew that but, sharing quality time just meant more. “I know, you’ll probably receive a letter from me everyday for about a year.” The two continued in their conversation and ate, breakfast was delightful. “Well, I guess it’s time to get ready, Papa I’ll see you in a bit!” Ameerah gave her father a kiss and left him with his thoughts. “Your highness, the military is almost boarded; we’ve taken inventory of all the armament.” King Okoro nodded, “And what of the transported goods?” “As requested, we’re importing grain, medicine, fabrics and building materials. The boats have been fully stocked, we’ll be ready to depart shortly highness. “Good, and the animals?” The servant smiled, “Already accounted for, their quarters have been prepared for their needs. The chef has their menu already prepared.” The King gave a big smile, “Good. Good.”
Na’eva followed her pet tiger around aimlessly, she hadn’t been able to think clearly since last night. “The ground is going to swallow you whole if you keep pacing like that.” Jamison said, she hadn’t even heard him approach her, “God damnit, you startled me!” She said pushing his chest out of instinct. “Princess, what has you so preoccupied? Is it what took you away from dinner yesterday?” “No, I told you it was just business; what brings you here?” Na’eva said trying to settle her features. “What am I doing here? It’s the courtyard, not your chambers princess.” He cocked an eyebrow as he circled her curiously. “Ah, right. Well, good afternoon; I need to finish getting ready for the trip.” Jamison stopped himself from reaching for her, “We have 2 days, I’ll figure your little secret out.” he said to himself as he watched her ass sway away from him. Na’eva had always been a bad liar, her sister teased her constantly. “I need more practice huh, Sofia?” The sweet animal only looked at her and continued her stroll. “Ameerah, are you ready?” Na’eva called just outside of her chamber door. “As ready as I’ll ever be, come in!” Ameerah stood before her in a pretty pale pink dress, “Oh wow look at you!” Ameerah’s sister said, mouth relatively close to the floor.
“Yeah yeah yeah, you love the pink.” Ameerah said straightening her cape. “Well, father is waiting-come on.” Na’eva wrapped her arms around her sister and guided her to the door. A few of the servants were still loading the trunks in her room. “I wonder how grand your new bedroom will be? Oh, do you think the king has a big bed for the two of you to roll around in?” Na’eva asked, “I don’t know what I’m going to do with you sis.” The two kept walking toward the back of the palace, “I’m serious! Oh, you’ll have to tell me all about the consummation- what gown are you going to wear?” Ameerah put a finger to her sister’s lips, “Shhhhhh, there are people present! And, I don’t know I have it narrowed down to 8....” the two laughed. “Well, we have 3 days to figure it out, “Hmmm, maybe something silk?” Na’eva said sizing her sister up. “Gowns are silly anyway, it’s not like they ever stay on long to begin with.” Ameerah said as she kept walking leaving her sister in awe. “OoOoOoHHHhhh~, wait how do we know!?” Ameerah never once responded although she could clearly hear her. “HELLO?” Na’eva cried chasing after her.
The ride into the city was lovely but, arriving into port was breathtaking.
This part of town was always packed with people shopping, buying, selling and bargaining. Thear was known for it’s port, thousands of people passed through it’s water’s each day, this allowed many to experience something new almost everyday. Ameerah recognized a few faces from the day before, it was heartwarming. “Woah” Ameerah said looking upon her fleet, the ships were massive. The king was sending 20 of their battleships along with 800 men; the sight was impressive. The carriage came to a halt and the guards opened the door, “Thank you.” The new queen said straightening her dress. ”Ameerah come, I have one other gift for you.” King Okoro said, reaching for his youngest daughter. He walked with her towards the ship, “I think you’ll like it.” Ameerah could only smile, she had no clue what was up his sleeve. Her father was known to spoil them but, what on earth could he have in mind? The king gestured to one of the crewmen and suddenly he was holding a yawning baby cheetah cub. “OH PAPA!! YOU DIDN’T????!!!!!” Ameerah quickly left her father’s side and bolted towards the precious feline. The crewman handed over the kitten, it’s soft warm belly poked through Ameerah’s fingers. She starred at her newest pet and it starred right back.
The cat’s eyes were bright and curious, it’s nose sniffed at it’s owner. A gentle meow left it’s lips and the Ameerah cuddled it close. “THANK YOU SO MUCH, I LOVE HER!” The king placed a kiss on his daughter’s head, much like she usually did to him. In that instant, her father went blurry. All of the excitement of the last few weeks really hit her. Her father was kissing her goodbye, she hated saying goodbye. “Papa, I,I-“, The king hugged his daughter close, “Hush now, I already know.” He said. “It’s a father’s dream to watch his daughter grow into a woman, and for me a queen. I wish your mother was here, she’d be so proud. It’s uncanny how much you look like her. You’re ready Meerah.” A tear slipped past her chin, he hadn’t called her that in so long. “I’m just really going to miss you papa.” She sniffed. The king cradled her chin softly and wiped her face. “My dear I’m only a couple of days away but, my heart is always with you- remember that.” He bore that last comment into her eyes. Ameerah swallowed, “Yes Papa, I will.” The two hugged one another for a few more moments until the king spoke again, “Now go, your kingdom awaits; you wouldn’t want to be late on your first day?” The surrounding crowd chuckled, the king kissed the back of his daughter’s hand. “I love you princess.” He winked. “I love you too Papa.” Ameerah took a deep breath and entered the ship. “Don’t get into too much trouble, you hear me?” King Okoro said, causing both Jamison and Na’eva to respond with an immediate “Yes sir.” The king raised his eyebrows at the both of them and shook his head. “I’ll see you in a couple of weeks father.” Na’eva jumped to place kiss to his forehead.” With both of his daughters boarded the king waited for the fleet to depart. The crowd waved furiously as the ship started on it’s new journey. Two familiar faces blew kisses off the back of the ship and the King fought the urge to cry. No doubt he had seen many things in this lifetime, he had overcome a great deal of trials but; this by far was the greatest...Telling his daughter goodbye.

Sun Queens- The Feast
The at home coronation was well underway, many of the party goers were already drunk off either wine or women. Jamison adjusted his dress shirt as he approached the kings table for the feast. He bowed and smiled at the King, Ameerah and finally her. “Cute,” he said to himself. She was actually wearing the pearl earrings he’d recently purchased back from Peth, just a few weeks ago. Jamison tried to tame his smile as his eyes meet Na’evas, she was willing herself to not look; however, she was failing miserably. “I do hope you’ll spare me a dance milady, I’ve worn my thickest shoes.” Jamison said a smirk rising to meet his eyes, Ameerah laughed at his incredulous teasing. “Jamison, I stepped on your foot because you didn’t know how to lead, someone had to do it- so I did. It would have went over without a hitch if you would have let me just dip you!” Ameerah said cheekily. The line of courts-men and women flowed endlessly and then the feast began. The smell of succulent meat filled the air, to the point Amerrah’s mouth watered. “Easy killer, you haven’t eaten a whole lot today.” Na’eva said eyeing her sister. “ I’ve eaten plenty and Intend on eating plenty more, I’ll miss these delicious treats!”
The music roared and the crowd followed. Amerrah danced with her father for awhile, he teared up for the briefest of moments. It was no shock how dearly he felt for his daughters, his love ran deep for them both. The king twirled his daughter around the floor as an pang in her chest rang out, his hands still felt so large compared to hers. She couldn’t help but think back to memories of her childhood, practicing this exact dance ontop of his shoes. Her mother passed much to soon, leaving her a lost opportunity to learn from her but, her father made sure his princess lacked for nothing. “Are you ready for tomorrow?” The kind king asked, leading her effortlessly. “Yes father, all my major things have been packed; I still haven’t decided on what gown to wear meeting my king though? Should I wear Thear or Kydith colors? Oh, or should I go with all neutral colors?” The king smiled and shook his head lovingly, his little one was so selfless. “Amerrah, I asked how you were. Not your items but, you?” Ameerah giggled to herself, “Yes Papa, I still feel like there’s so much to left to learn.” She said following into another spin. “A royal who believes they’ve learned everything has already fallen victim to his own stupidity. You’ll do well to remember that; no matter what keep all options open, you kingdom comes first. You’re people will feel that sincerity and follow you because they want to and not because the have to.” The song came to an end and the crowd clapped for the King and his daughter. A familiar face waited with expecting eyes, Jamison. “Your highness, I’m ready for my broken toes now.” He said winking with a smile and one of his many mocked bows. “Well, one more wish before my departure I suppose.” Na’eva poured a little more wine into her glass, her little sister wasn’t so little anymore. Her heart was sad and extremely warm, she never wanted to forget this moment. Amerrah’s smile radiated much like her dress, she effortlessly waltzed around the floor, not missing a single beat. Her stance was poised but her eyes said a different story.
“You’re leading again.” Jamison said pulling the queen closer to him. “It’s only because you won’t”, she said playfully. The music continued and the two kept up their friendly dispute. “My, what a lovely evening. I do hope you’re enjoying yourself princess?” A unfamiliar voice said, Na’eva turned and acknowledged the woman. “Indeed I am; and you?”She said taking in the woman’s garb. “Splendid, thank you for asking.” The woman gave a deep curtesy and introduced herself. “Princess my name is Talia, Prince Kihyun sent me.” Na’eva starred at the woman; she was stunning. “Kihyun you say?” Na’eva sat her goblet down and stepped closer. Her heart was beating wildly, surely to heavens there would be no more surprises this soon; she still was processing all that was transpiring with her sister. “Yes princess, he sent me as an representative. The prince wants to share his deepest congratulations on your sisters engagement, he’s looking forward to the new alliance with his cousin.” Na’eva batted her lashes, representatives weren’t unusual at these gatherings but, this was a bit surprising. Kihyun surely had so much more to worry about other than tonight. “I suppose royals never stop playing chess.” She thought to herself. “Please tell the prince that his gesture is very kind and much appreciated. May I ask, how is the prince and his father?” The representative shuffled her feet and resumed speaking; “Princess, forgive my lack of response. The prince asked that I leave this with you, it will explain any questions that you have.” Na’eva took the envelope and traced it blankly. “Thank you, is there anything else his highness wishes to share with me?” Na’eva asked a bit on edge. Talia gave a very warm smile, “Yes, that you enjoy his gift.” With that Talia gave a bow and dismissed herself. “Gift? What gift?” Na’eva asked to no one; she glanced through the throng of people but, she no longer saw her guest. Na’eva thought about opening the letter right there, everyone was so preoccupied with the current festivities. Something in her gut made her decide against it and she made her way through the crowd of people. A familiar hand wrapped around her wrist, “Princess, are you leaving so soon?” Na’eva’s heart always skipped a beat when he looked at her like that, “Yes, I have some business to attend to.” Jamison let her wrist go, “Would you like some assistance princess? Your humble servant is willing to oblige, all you need do is ask.” He gave an all to knowing smile and her stomach fluttered at his tone; cheeky ass.” She shook her head, “You can assist me by keeping an eye on my sister; I fear she’s on her sixth glass of wine.” They both laughed as they glanced at the soon to be queen, she was dancing circles around her father. “As you wish,” Jamison said with a smile.
Na’eva wished her guards a good evening before locking her door. Na’eva was in a hurry to change and finally read the letter. She kicked her shoes off and made haste to her bed, the letter was still tucked away safely in the sleeve of her gown. An odd sight caught her attention, a soft pink crush velvet satchel sat prettily on her bed. “The gift, perhaps?” The draw string was easy enough to pull open, once the satchel bunched beneath the object, a gasp left her.
The fresh water pearl and gold made for such beautiful sight. She had never seen anything quite like this before. An opal shell sat atop of the heavy object, she gave it a slight twist and open the pearls fell. Three vials filled with different color liquids presented themselves; a pleasant scent touched her nose. “These are perfumes, they’re lovely.” The purple liquid sloshed slightly as she brought ti to her nose. It smelt floral and fruity; very pleasant indeed.
“BAHAHAHAHA, JAMISON YOU’RE HILARIOUS, wait did the boat hit a motion?!” Amerrah said completely plastered; the wine had definitely taken her captive. Na’eva smiled and tucked the gift into the deep trunk by her bed. She pushed the letter into her silk pillowcase, the soft feel of blankets encasing her gave her mind comfort. The halls quieted down and she laid facing the balcony, the linen curtains fluttered in the moonlight as the wind kissed her cheeks. Three soft knocks sounded from behind her wall, she knew it was him. Na’eva closed her eyes and laid as still as possible, “Princess are you up?” One of the castles many secret passages led straight to her room, he quietly wedged the walls entry way open. She couldn’t see him but, she could feel his presence. She willed herself to keep still, a finger traced over her cheek followed by a gentle kiss. “Goodnight my Queen.” Once she was sure the passage was sealed close, she pulled out the letter and held it to her chest. “Damnit.”

Sun Queens- The Queen’s day
A loud knock sounded; was it morning already I thought? “Coming, we’re coming.” I adjusted the night gown, “Hey sleepy head, wake up! If I have to be up this early than you do too!” Na’eva opened only one eye, “What if I don’t want to?” I quickly placed my hands on my hips, “You don’t have a choice old woman, now moooovvveeeee iiiitttt!” I said poking her cheek. “Fine, only because you asked so nicely!” A sarcastic tongue peeked over Na’eva’s lips. I briskly sprinted to the door and an familiar older woman stood before me. She held a pretty little breakfast tray draped in lace and fresh flowers, “For your highnesses, please see the itinerary from your father as well.”
The tray was much heavier than it looked, I gave the kind woman a deep nod; I could only imagine the kind of work she’d be busy with for the rest of the day. “Here, eat some fruit, you want some cantaloupe?” Na’eva perked up at the mention of the tasty treats. “Eat up, sis. Well, it looks like my day will be busy.” I undid the parchment paper and began to read aloud;
Good morning my queen,
Did you sleep well? I have a feeling you and your sister have been up all evening, nevertheless, it’s time to begin your day. Please meet with your ladies around noon, your dress needs to be fitted. Lastly, breakfast will be served in bed- try not to be late this time.
~Father
I tossed the letter back onto the tray, the plump strawberries already diverting my attention; “Father I presume?” Na’eva said attempting to de-fluff her fluffy hair. “Mhmm, the day is already set, we have dress fittings at noon.” I plopped down onto my silk sheets. “Have you decided on your hair?” I touched the tresses of my hair, this giant mane would be such a pain to tame. “Down? Maybe straight?” My sister shot me with a thumb of approval, “He’ll love it, he’ll love it even more when it’s wrapped around his fingers.” Before I knew it a blueberry bounced off her head, “NASTY!” Na’eva sat up whipping her face, “Oh please, like the thought hasn’t crossed your mind? You’ve heard all the tales of how charming his smile is and his eyes even more so; how oh how, will his queen ever survive?” Summer tapped her chin and finally stood. “With one hand on the Bible and the other on my sword- dashing men cannot be trusted!” I said sticking my tongue out at her. Another soft knock padded against the door, I could almost tell which lady of mine it was- she’s had the same knock since we were children. I opened the door eagerly to see my friend, “Good morning Sasha!” Sasha took a polite bow and graced me with a very warm smile, “Good morning your highness, your ladies have gathered to fit you for your dress.”
The day was warm but comfortable, “Thank goodness, all of this fabric is so heavy” she thought. “Can you tighten it a little here, the waist seems pretty loose.” Ameerah said straightening her back, “Yes your highness.” The gentle maid replied. “When is your dress supposed to be finished Na’eva asked playing with Laila from the chaise lounge. “It’s supposed to be ready by morning, Papa recruited over 70 seamstress to help with the beading and lace; Jooheon won’t know what to do with you.” I couldn’t help but smile, what would he wear? “Your highness, are these colors to your liking? We’ve had these fabrics dyed for sometime.” The gentle servant asked thumbing overs the various shades of blue and white. “It’s perfect, I couldn’t ask for better ladies.” Ameerah reached out and stroked the sweet woman’s face, “I’ll wear it proudly, thank you all.” The room fell silent as the workers took a deep bow, Ameerah started to get teary eyed. The majority of these people felt like blood relatives, they helped raise and nurse her from just a babe; as her mother passed during child birth. Na’eva could pick up on her sister’s sentimental nature starting to peek it’s head. All Na’eva could do was smile, Ameerah looked so beautiful and youthful; Kydith was a very lucky kingdom indeed. “All hail the queen.” Na’eva said raising her wine glass. The room went back into a frenzy as more servants totted empty trunks ready to be filled with her queenly wardrobe. “Don’t forget to take this too, she looks so pretty in pink!” Na’eva said stuffing more fluff into the giant trunk. “NO MORE PINK, PLEASE I BEG OF YOU.”

“And, just where are you two headed? Jamison said with his arms behind his back. “Is that anyway to address your queen?” Ameerah said standing extra tall with a smirk. “I beg your pardon majesty, where are my manners?” Jamison increased his pace and put Amerrah’s head into the crevice of his elbow, his other hand rustled in her hair. “Better your highness?” The friends shared a good laugh and continued on their way. “We have to get ready for the kingdom’s ceremony; are you attending?” Amerrah asked watching Laila tip toe ahead. “Is that an order your highness?” Ameerah rolled her eyes at his teases, “You’re enjoying this aren’t you?” The sun licked at Amerrah’s eyelashes, she fluttered them to see better. She would miss this, just being able to enjoy the heat of the sun and the company of her friends and family. She wouldn’t think on the loneliness that reigning brings, today- no, today she’d focus on making more memories.
“No matter how many times I ride this thing, it’s still scary.” Ameerah said to a servant helping her mount the giant mammal. “You’re highness, please mind your dress.” Ameerah swung her leg over in a less than modest way, the dress was just so heavy. The parade was just about to start, her father was just ahead mounting his horse. Ameerah would be lying if she didn’t feel a flutter of excitement, queens waited their whole life just for this moment. Ameerah peered past the gates, she could see the city quite well from her current height, the streets seemed to come come alive with every passing second. Suddenly, ram horns sounded along with drums and the parade began. Talu took a giant step causing Ameerah to grip onto the thick rope. All of the commotion going on below made her smile widen, the townspeople were cheering as they threw orchid and rose petals. “All hail the queen! All hail the queen! All hail the queen!” It was odd, this moment had played out several times in her head; but, seeing it like this was different. “Wow.” That was all she could say, “Oh shit, I forgot to wave!” Ameerah waved her hands furiously and smiled as a little boy waved his palm branch. A soft breeze tossed her curls, “She’s beautiful! Majesty, please bless our unborn child!” A woman yelled from the crowd, her blue dress accentuating her swollen belly. Ameerah tapped her heels against Talu’s sides and he came to a halt. “You there, what are you having?” The woman clutched her chest as she stepped forward. “Queen, I was told a boy!” Ameerah smiled, “I pray good health, fortitude and many happy years upon you and your family. Promise to raise him proper and strong?” The woman nodded a bit too excitedly, “Yes, yes we will your majesty!” The crowd took a sudden bow and sprinkled more petals along the elephant’s path. The group of royals made their way down a winding path and the view opened spectacularly.
The familiar hills, that once seemed so massive as a child, still seemed to be just as big. The scent of ocean tickled Ameerah’s features and she couldn’t help but relax a little; there was something about the water that she just adored. Maybe it was the way she could slice through it, or how light she felt while emerged or, perhaps it was the way it made her feel incredibly small? The sound of horns brought her back to her senses. Ameerah glanced down to yet another crowd of people, this time they were dressed differently. Many of the crowd wore tattered and torn cloth, covered in dust and clay. Ameerah stopped the elephant and motioned for a guard to assist her down. The country folk bowed, almost ashamed to look upon her. “Rise, all of you, let me look upon your faces. Fore, I’ve come bearing gifts.” The crowd started to talk amongst themselves, “Queen, I made you bread!” Announced one round woman. Ameerah smiled from ear to ear, “Thank you, you’re too kind,” she said with a courteous nod. “Your highness, I’ve stitched a quilt; this will surely grant you a male heir.” Na’eva let out a poorly masked cough. “Oh, I will use this...carefully.” Ameerah said as a blush rose against her face. “Guards, disperse the food.” The crowd let out a mighty cheer, “Wine!?” Shouted one man. “MEAT!!” Shouted another, “Calm yourselves, for there is plenty for each household.” Ameerah said handing the fresh bread and quilt to a nearby guard. “Jamison, the coin.” Na’eva smiled as she watched over her litter sister, it was almost like she grew up in a day. “Here, spend it well.” Ameerah said handing several coins to each family that lined up for their meals. An unexplainable feeling sat in her chest, she was beyond happy- she felt like this is what she was meant to do; care for her people and her kingdom. Ameerah took one final look at her kingdom’s people and she decided it was time to head back.
“I just want my silk robe, I’m so over all of this fabric.” Ameerah said through clinched teeth as she tried desperately to continue sitting sill. “Just a moment,” Pierre said stroking his brush on the canvas. “Madame, you look exquisite; the king will be elated.” Ameerah smiled inwardly, she was still a little taken aback at her king’s request for a private painting. Pierre had introduced himself earlier in the day, he was hand picked by the king to complete his task. Pierre was from a land far away however, King Jooheon had paid him great divined to reside within his court. “Majesty, we’re done; I’ll be able to match the colors to your gown. If you would please change and leave the dress here, I hope to have this done come dawn. I’ll step out.” Pierre took a bow and quickly exited. Ameerah called for her ladies and they dressed her for the final time that eveninig.

Sun Queens- “Then there was one.”
Ameerah paced around the length of the pool, it’s resident fish followed closely behind her. A few of them swam between her ankles, they were used to her feeding them however, she had too much to digest at the moment. Laila hopped into the pool and playfully chased after a few of the scattered fish, the crazy cat loved water. Ameerah sat along the pools edge. “Well this day escalated rather quickly.” She sighed and laid on her back, the fish still tickled past her feet. It wasn’t like she didn’t know her duties as Kydith’s next queen but, she never expected to get married before her sister, she thought she had more time to learn who she was as Ameerah of Thear. Her hand went to block the sun from her eyes when her elbow bumped against the envelope sitting on her little blue box. She cautiously ripped the envelopes’ lip, conscious not to damage the seal too badly. She allowed herself one more deep breath and began reading;
My dearest Queen,
“I do hope this letter finds you well; are you in good health? Isn’t it odd, the last time we spoke you were eight and I, only ten? Although so much has happened over these last few days; it feels like time is standing still. Forgive my assumptions but; my gut is telling me that we share the same sentiment. So, with that being said I want to be the first to officially extend my welcome to you and your family. Please accept my gift, I imagine that Sapphires will suit you well; I can faintly recall the blue poppy crown you made for us as kids.”
“ I have to admit, I’m anxious to see you; is your smile still as I imagine it? Did that little scar above your hip ever heal? Father scolded me for days after we spared with those sticks; ‘A king should never hit his Queen!’
Ameerah laughed to herself, she remembered their last day clearly. Jooheon landed a pretty harsh blow against her hip bone but, she clocked him twice as hard nicking his right ear. “All’s fair in love and war I suppose.” The letter’s edge caught in the small breeze as Ameerah flipped it over. “Your king demands a rematch, no sticks; however, I’ve heard you have a wicked slight of hand.” She smiled at the words of her playful fiancé, “Ameerah, I want to try and calm any reservations you may have about the condition of our Kingdom. I plan on being an honest and fair king, the king that my father could never be. I will never allow my kingdom to fall into despair again, no matter the cost. I’m willing to fight for what’s mine; yes, that also includes you.” Her cheeks felt warm and it wasn’t just from the sun, “Ameerah, please accept these gifts and kind words, I wish you a quick and safe journey to your kingdom- Kydith.
Love,
Your humble King, Jooheon.
Ameerah hugged the letter to her chest, “And, Just like that my whole world changes.” There was a part of her that was excited, she’d waited 23 years to reign. Was she truly ready? Could she really claim the heart of her kingdom’s people or the heart of her king?.....”My Kingdom, my king.” Ameerah sat up thumbing the contents of her velvet box, the jewelry glistened brightly in the sun. To call the jewels breathtaking, would be an understatement. The necklace was heavy along with the earrings, bracelet and ring. She couldn’t wait to try them on. “Beautiful, I have the perfect dress for this.” Laila splashed her way around the pool and doused Ameerah, “Oh, you’re going to get it.”
Na’eva entered her chambers and let out a heavy sigh. Her little sister would soon be leaving her; she was beyond excited for her to become queen- She slapped her cheeks lightly and began her pep talk, “ Don’t be silly, you’ll both be in sister kingdoms.” Her head laid gently on the back of the door; things were changing so quickly that her mind hadn’t caught up yet. “Want to talk about it?” A familiar voice said tickling the shell of her ear. “Funny, talking feels like the last thing you want to do.” A smirk pressed into her shoulder followed by a lingering bite, “Well, isn’t it in a wolf’s nature?” His fingers laced into the bow of her dress, “Jam-.” “Yes, your highness?” His hands wandered against the soft flesh of her stomach, “Jamison please.” Her head lulled into his chest, a beastly chuckle left him; “I may be a wolf but I’m no mind reader, tell me what you want.” A warm hand circled around her throat, he lifted her chin; “Look at me Na’eva.” She let out a strangled sigh, “Ameerah is getting married.” Jamison paused his ministrations, his lips hovered just above the junction of her neck. “What, when?” He blinked letting the idea settle. “We have four days Jamison, she’s leaving us.” Her vision blurred and she relaxed into his arms. “It’s okay princess, what’s happened? Is it the war, has it finally ended?” Na’eva shook her head, “Yes, the King is dead; my kingdom is almost out of grain and Ameerah is finally free to marry.” Jamison hugged the princess, “Hush now, it’s not the worst thing in the world, is it?” He said sweeping some hair behind her ear, “Don’t be silly, of course not; I’m allowed to miss my sister.” She said a little defeated. “Princess, no one is saying otherwise, I’m sure she’s going to miss you just as much.” Na’eva gave a big sniff and tried to push past him. “Hey stop, no matter what nothing will break the bond you two have.” Na’eva knew that deep down in her heart but, no one could predict the future. “You’re right, I’m sorry to ruin the mood.” “There’s no need to apologize; let me hold you some more, come.” Jamison walked towards her bed and patted the spot he wanted her to lay on. Na’eva looked upon her darkest secret, his hair laying in dark waves with eyes of obsidian, his skin creamy, soft and perfect. “Jamison, we really shouldn’t. I have a duty to my kingdom; I can’t keep being here with you, like this.” Jamison propped his head up with his hand, “Well, until you order me to leave, I won’t.” He casually laid flat on the bed, “The sun is the warmest right here, come and lay with me princess. I just want to hear about your day, I’ll behave...honest.” Na’eva squinted at him, he was so full of himself; she hated that he knew her almost every thought. She took a cautions step followed by another, her hand untied her hair as she approached the spot that he left open for her.
The evening came to a close as the sky turned a dark orange, “I thought I’d find you here.” Na’eva said pulling her sisters curly bun. “I’ve read this letter close to a thousand times. I still cannot believe that I’ll be married in just a few days.....how did i get here.” Ameerah handed the letter to her older sister, “Oh, the seal is pretty; do you mind?” Ameerah shook her head no as her sister read the letter out loud. “Ameerah, please accept these gifts and kind words, I wish you a quick and safe journey to your kingdom- Kydith.
Love,
Your humble King, Jooheon.”
Na’eva sat the letter in her lap, “Well, he sounds like he hasn’t changed a bit; still very kind and loving?” Her smile took over. “Na’eva, there’s no possible way to know, we haven’t seen one another since childhood; I hope I don’t suffer the fate of many other queens. I used to dread all of the terrible tales of the awful marriages that take place between a queen and king. Those poor wives, all but contracted to be silent unless spoken to- to give heirs until child birth claims them....I’m meant for much more than that.” Ameerah said with bright cheeks, not from a blush but sheer frustration. “You haven’t met your prince as an king yet, I’m sure he’ll treat you with great honor. Plus, father would never put you into harms way.” Ameerah sighed, “I know, I just want my reign to mean something to my people and his. I refuse to be the kind of queen who sits idle and watches her days fly by.” Na’eva kicked her feet in the pool of water, “Don’t tell me, tell your king; besides I’m sure he knows how feisty you are- I can clearly recall all of the times you wrestled in your pretty little dresses and him in his robes.” A laugh left both of them, “he started it! I just finished...it.” Na’eva rolled her eyes and laid on her back, “If I recall, you chased him first with the muddy stick.” Ameerah stuck her tongue out, “That was one time sister!” A shared laugh came from the two, “You do know I’m going to miss you, this old dusty castle will be such a bore without you.” Ameerah patted her sisters‘ hand.
”I can only imagine what you’ll get into now. Well at least Jamison can keep you occupied”, Na’eva choked on thin air, she couldn’t seem to catch her breath. “Are you alright Sis?” Na’eva cleared her throat. “Mmm...mhmmm, sorry.” Na’eva calmed herself, there’s no way she knew about her private meetings with Jamison. No one knew, they agreed to make sure of that. “Well, are you going to write him back?” Ameerah scrunched her nose, “Nope, I don’t’ want to seem desperate; it’s healthy to make him miss me a bit.” Na’eva laughed, “He’s your husband, has’t he earned a little affection?” Ameerah shook her index finger ‘no’....”Ah Ah Ah, my future husband. Is a single letter supposed to make me fall for him? My love and loyalty can’t be bought, he’ll have to work for my deepest affections.” Ameerah said with the most casual voice in the world, the confidence she wore was charming. “That’s assuming you don’t fall prey to his charms, his smile could stop a war, remember?” Ameerah laughed, “Oh, please Mrs. Quai is paid to say that!” The girls caught up for what felt like minutes but, in reality hours had flown by. The two walked back towards their individual chambers, “Sister, let’s stay up tonight! We can braid hair and talk about my wedding dress!” “Na’eva smiled at her little sister, “Sure, I’ll grab us some sweets!”

Sun Queens- “In the beginning, there were two.” (Pt3)
Ameerah cleared her throat, "Slain? What exactly am I walking into? Is Jooheon safe?" Na'eva started the next round of questions, "What about Peth; are they planning on peace with Kydith? Father, you cannot let me marry into a family that wants war with my sister!" The king directed his gaze at the eldest, "Tell me, what does the marital contract say?" Na'eva gulped and repeated the words all queens are too aware of. "Should the King fall into eternal rest, his son is free to marry at the time of his choosing." The kind king snapped his fingers as an golden tray was placed on the table, the thick red cloth covered the edge. A beautifully sealed letter sat on top, it's wax seal was blue with the house crest of the winter rose. Ameerah plopped down to examine it properly, her fingers traced over the lovely seal that would soon belong to her as well. "Very good, I've raised you both to be prepared for the days ahead; I would never put either of you in harms way." The girls chanced a look at one another and nodded back to their father. "I want you both to listen to me carefully." The sisters settled and obeyed. "As you're aware the King of Kydith initiated war with his brother, the King of Peth. The peace treaty was broken once, the king of Kydith went mad; he became drunk on his own power. The king of Kydith hated having a brother in power, he always thought of himself as the 'All Supreme." He plotted to destroy his brother's kingdom by setting fire to their grain; such a simple thing a king should be able to provide, correct?" Ameerah clasped her hands and straightened a bit, "What of Jooheon? What is he planning? How are we to move forward as King and Queen, what would you suggest father?" Their father gave a reassuring smile, "I suggest you marry and claim what's yours. Jooheon although wet behind the ears, he has his head and heart in the right place. He's ready to rule; he and his uncle have called a truce." Na'eva spoke next, "A truce? So, are the kingdoms helping one another.” The king picked up a crab leg and snapped it, "Yes, the kingdoms are helping one another once again." The king bit into the sweet crab meat, "This sounds like the perfect time for a queen to help nurture a realm back to health, no?" Na'eva smiled, "Indeed." "Papa, I don't think I'm ready. I always knew this day would come but, it just seems so soon." The gentle king stood up and approached his daughter, My child, you've always been ready; what has Mrs. Quai been teaching you all these years?" Her father stood above her and stroked her hair, "You're ready little one. Go on, take these with you." Ameerah looked to the tray and smiled, she picked up the envelope and noticed a royal blue velvet box hidden just beneath the red fabric. "Father, can I please be excused?" A flutter of butterflies tickled against her ribs and she could feel a shy blush touch her cheeks. "Yes, go on; take Laila with you." Ameerah kissed her father's cheek and smiled at her sister, she called for her pet and they made haste to her favorite spot.

Sun Queens- “In the beginning, there were two.” (Pt2)
King Okoro sat patiently as his daughters neared the dining hall, their giggles announcing their arrival. The table was set for a king, piled high with various fish, shrimps, scallops, mussels, crab, fresh bread and vegetables. The dessert filled a smaller surrounding table, sweet cakes and custard filled pastries. "Mmm, is that what I think it is? It smells soo good Papa!" Ameerah said poking her head into the dinning hall. "My mouth is watering; Laila lay, I'll feed you in a minute." King Okoro smiled deeply at his daughters, his eyes reflected the warmth his heart held for them. Ameerah; his precious little one, although in her eyes she was properly grown. No matter what, she'd always be the little girl who'd cry when he put her down for too long, the same little girl that would only eat her vegetables if he ate them first and the same little girl that still leaves notes under his door. "What, what are you thinking Papa? Listen, I know we're late but, Laila and I were working on her English and then she stole my sash!" A soft chuckle left the king, she was such a sweet child; always so thoughtful. He would certainly miss her, this meal would be bitter sweet. "Child, calm yourself, you're here now. Come, sit and eat, the both of you. Na'eva placed a soft kiss to her father's head and took her seat The old king laughed at his daughter pretending to hide one of his many journals. She'd been 'borrowing' them ever since she could read, he needed to reshuffle his stack and let her brush up on his war tactics. Ameerah was the first to dive in- the shrimp wouldn't eat itself. The king waved his hand and gestured for their wine glasses to be filled. Na'eva, perked at her fathers actions, "Are we celebrating?" It wasn't odd for them to drink but, it was a little strange for their father to offer so quickly. "Actually yes, your sister is getting married. A loud cough left Ameerah followed by heavy choking. "Papa, are you serious?! Why, why so soon?" Ameerah stood up from the table knocking off a rather large shrimp. Laila meowed at fallen morsel, "No ma'am, lay." Ameerah ordered without missing a beat, "Papa, what's happened? The rival kings have been at war for almost a year, has it finally ended?" The girls were no strangers to the idea of marriage; it was just the sudden shift in power. The king took a deep swig of his wine, "The King of Kydith has been slain."

Sun Queens- “In the beginning, there were two.” (Pt1)
"Laila, get back here! That's my favorite sash!" Ameerah shouted after her mischievous pet; Laila's only acknowledgment was an energetic tail wag. Ameerah was used to Laila's playful ways, she loved to be chased although, doing the chasing was more in her nature. "Oop, good morning Laila", said a servant toting a silver platter of wine, bread and fruit. "Ah, and good morning to her highness the old woman said taking a bow with her platter. "Good morning, please tell father I'll be a little late for lunch!" The older woman nodded politely and smiled at the beautiful young woman before her. "As you wish, your highness." Her long raven curls bounced in the wind after her spotted friend. Ameerah smiled as her bare feet echoed down the marble halls, Laila gave a playful mewl. Her ears perked back as she looked for a way past her owner. "Come on, be good won't you?" I have to meet father for lunch, you made me late the last time." Laila paced and flashed her teeth slightly, her eyes held her owners. "What if I snuck you some more fish, you really liked that the last time? Does that sound like a fair trade? My sash for your full belly?" Ameerah stepped forward, her hands on her hips, she knew her jungle cat would never harm her." Venit tace." Ameerah bent down, gesturing for her cat. The cheetah strode to her master, she laid down peacefully at the given request. "Bona Puella." She said dropping her face lower, Laila cleared the distance and nuzzled into Ameerah's face. A satisfied purr vibrated deep within the cat's chest. "We're going to have to work on your English little one." Ameerah said as she scratched under her cat's chin. Ameerah fixed her sash and straightened her dress.
A heavy yawn wracked Na'eva as she snuggled deeper into the warm coat of her orange feline. The wind tickled the surrounding grass causing a comforting whistle, the sound alone made her eyes flutter shut. Na'eva closed her father's journal, he'd be furious at the thought of her reading his private thoughts. "Well, that's strange; why would we trade with Tardesh? Would you trade with wicked king Armanious; he's such a vile man!" Sofia gave a silent response by licking a stripe across her master's forehead. "You have a point, I need to take this back to the treasury before Papa notices, hmm?" Na'eva placed her head against her tigers', the animals ears flickered at her warm tone. "Maybe after a quick nap?" Sofia plopped over onto her side and gave a tiny roar. The sun kissed and caressed her face until sleep overtook her. A gentle touch tickled her ears. "Good morning Ameerah." Na'eva didn't have to open her eyes, she knew who the hand belonged to, her sister. Ameerah always loved playing with ears even as a babe. "Are you ready for lunch? Papas asking for us both. I'm famished, let's pray that we are having more than salad....you know how I dread vegetables." Amerrah said tossing her hair over her shoulders. "I find it most fascinating how you can keep that figure of yours." Ameerah smiled, her hazel eyes catching flecks of the sun. "Well, on the bright side- you can have all of my vegetables...and, I can have your sunflower seeds." Na'eva laughed, "Deal." The palace was abuzz with it's daily hustle and bustle, servants were quick at work maintaining the royal abode. Thear's castle required a lot of up keep, as the kingdom was surrounded by sand and sea; both elements easily causing most materials to fade quickly. " How are your Kur lessons with Mrs. Quai? Is she still as dull as Papa's old blade?" Na'eva asked readjusting her father's journal underneath the giant red bow, sitting across her shoulder. "Is Thear sandy? Are our pets the cutest in the world? Yes, that woman is as dull as an spoon.....sweet but, dull." Ammerah said with a playful wink. "If I'm being honest, most of our lessons have been about the handsome Prince Jooheon." Na'eva turned to look at her sister, eyebrows bouncing- "Oh, do continue." Ameerah paused and took a deep breath; "They say his hair is as black as night, skin as pale as snow, and a smile so bright it rivals the sun." A flutter ran through her as the imagery crossed her mind. I've heard that his swordplay is unmatched." Na'eva smirked, "That's because Kydith hasn't seen you with a sword, I'd pay 10,000 Kevtos to watch you both spar. Dare I say that you'd give him a run for his money?" Ameerah approached the door to the dinning hall, "Let's keep it a secret for now."
