whats doom metal
Works in progress (the vast majority are simply scraps of notes): sci-fi story: A sci-fiction book and supporting literature that looks at parallels between homo-social bonding in groups of majority straight men aswell as the relationship between autism, authority and feelings of disgust. very horny. It will be an audio book as its worked on communist's digest: a weekly review of publications being made by left-wing organisations around the world with outlines of what is being said and links to the original article. Maybe a combined process of laungage learning and soldarity building that could lead into being able to offer translations of works. idk. Emma's life: I wait for a paticularly miserable week in my life to come up where im going to make a mess of myself and do stupid things. I ask a friend to follow me around with a camera aswell as wearing a gopro or something, my life spirals out of control and then it gets really over the top editing like on screen graphics to indicate how sad i am and stuff, the self-hating rants are set to music Re-reading david graeber's dawn of everything and going through it source by source to discuss how well the source supports his argument and possible other interpretations. Because that book tore my world with how insightful it was and i owe it that level of due care. I wanna make a doom metal album with a CNC BDSM scene going on in the background I wanna make a video essay about the role of british nationalism in new who and the links of that with new labour.

ah, ok, finally, now -- i think, is the time.
let me tell you, about a significant time in my life. nothing i personally accomplished was significant, that is to say, my story here has very little to do with me and entirely to do with some souls i crossed at the time. i promise you, sincerely, i promise you -- there is no embellishment on my part in the words i'm writing
i was at the peak of my career (which is not yet over).
i work as an engineer. low level software and electronics. i worked for a very large company that you are aware of. originally it made machines for delicatessens. that was about one hundred years ago. it still sells machines but for business (not meat slicing). internationally. i had been working for this company for seven years at the time. and finally for the first time not pushing carts. not fixing wheels of carts in order to better push them, and not supervising fellow cart pusher. i was doing shit that fucking mattered. this kind of work is unheard of in my field, which is shamefully dominated by soft-ware now. the machinations of what i worked on -- in a very small part -- finally could not be completely explained solely by stock price. the project would move the needle for people in real life
you have to understand, for what i do, for my industry, this is unheard of. civil engineers build bridges over which people cross, and neither the travelers nor the engineers consider this after-the-fact. it is routine and mundane. we can't say the same. so do not read this like i have accomplished something legendary
this is not about me, it is about those i came across and what i managed to learn from them. as is customary we will go from the bottom-up
fellow senior engineers. initials PM and GW. much older. i am 30 now, this was a few years ago. PM & GW are what you would call the real deal. skinny black tie. shirt tucked in. professionals
ask anyone on the street what their mental image of a computer programmer is today. their response has me hanging my head in shame. slovenly children. hyperpsuedointellectual. breathtakingly elitist. paid a kings random for their work which is claimed to be insufficient. their work, our work, justifying this sum, amounts to the ability to assemble the plastic lego bricks in the exactly correct configuration as is printed in the diagram sold with the kit. most would have one or two bricks one or two units off, rendering the work useless, but since we tend to avoid this, we demand the bag
in the space normally reserved for a photograph, computer programmers will instead use a silly colorful cartoon, which is strangely correct. in our workplace, for the few that bother to show up to work, we have slides and ballpits, $2000 coffee machines and $10,000 laptops
the finished plastic brick model resembles a bridge
not this time, not me nor PM nor GW. in at 9 out at 5 and an hour for lunch -- never late to arrive nor leave. we shared the same manager, whom we never much saw much of. by design. relishing in the luxury by simply not going to work on the very seldom days in which we did not want to -- once or twice
the task we faced was gargantuan. in scope, in NRE cost, in complexity, in subject-matter complexity, and in spirit. we worked in high performance computing. we did not write much software or design much electronics, only when the most challenging problems percolated up to us through our well-crewed staff engineering team. and in ad-hoc research situations
in the face of this beast we worked slowly in work schedules named "sprints". methodically. no words wasted, no half-baked thoughts carelessly expressed. this type of work could not tolerate it. the harebrained behaviour you would otherwise expect was too toxic to spread carelessly, rendering the goal infeasible if allowed to infect. long durations of silence interspliced dialgoue between PM, GW, and myself. sometimes during which, on the rare occasion i managed to place a critical shot incurring some complex thought on their part, you could feel the room heat up
we were lead by el jefe, initials AM. close to retirement. holds twelve patents implicated in you reading these words on your computer minimum. shortest on words and quickest to intuit
our work, H. P. C. work, has implications. few customers, count them on one hand. large projects, larger price tags. development costs significant, and not due to our relatively meager salaries comparatively. our job was to prove efficient and convergent execution of a soft-ware, comprising a measly combined several-hundred-lines, upon an unfamiliar architecture. it was perfect. it was decades old. it would fit on several sheets of paper, printed. it dealt with the most menacing field of physics. and to us, non-physicists, it was impenetrable
its execution spanned across all functional floors of two or three of our real-estates housing our computers. a single run would command these computers, on the order of ones of hundreds of thousands of cores for the better part of a workweek. the nature of the routine disallowed effective cessation of execution for introspection and each time we pressed that button we incurred millions of dollars of expenditure and we incurred heat dissipation capable of boiling swimming pools. it was do or die. and we did it
we did it, only with the help of the final unnamed character. the man i see in my sleep. seventy-five years old. no picture, name given in first two initials + surname. the man is a legend known by none. myself, late twenties, eye-popping dosage of stimulants and -- fuck it -- i will say it -- a high level of competence given my age, could barely keep up with the man in our conversation. every aspect of the physics. every aspect of the software execution. every aspect of the compilers we had to fix and linker scripts we had to write and cgroups we had to wrangle and cuda we had to write, available to this man immediately by recall. non-personable while exuding the warmth and confidence. he was the best
the project was a success. the checks came in and outweighed our costs. the executives took notice and our team was laid off shortly thereafter. so it goes

im nothing.
guy who spends two hours each day listening to an ai text to speech reading random distributions of randomized character sets in an attempt to develop an intuitive feel for the cadence and character of “random speech” an an attempt to speak in tongues in what he regards as a more algorithmically pure way than anyone has done it before
