Apparently, the established precedent for our "arrangement" (as you so tactfully put it, so I'm stealing the term) came from the old tales of yore, the ones that we can all recognize as fairytales today and explain from a scientific standpoint why they couldn't actually work. People used to think that that stuff was true, after all: that there were so few sentient things beyond the Fusang that siblings would do that with one another, and that the thrones of kings were inherited from these first few sentient things that we called divine.

But, both of those ideas, together? It creates this idea of divine right to rule that is gauged by how many times removed from some divine ancestor we are, and that's measured in how many people are you related to without this divine bloodline. Solarians, a long time ago, realized that the only way to game that system involved intermarriage within established families.

Keep in mind, this was a LONG time ago. We now understand the repercussions of inbreeding and why that is a bad idea, which is why our arrangement is so scandalizing and not really common (I actually think many of the Judicial Officials in Shang had forgotten that no-one actually made our arrangement illegal). And this would, of course, be a grossly negative step for our clan... had Fuxi and I ever planned on having heirs.

Spoiler alert: we weren't ever going to. The initial plan was to remain married until our dear Mother passed, and then amicably split and figure out our lineage from there. Tianhuo happened first, though, and I couldn't trust anyone else to take care of Fuxi when he first got really ill. So his wife, I remained.

... Sorry for the length, that turned into a bit of a ramble.

This is a Public Announcement to All of the Solarian People Across the Universe.

I, Feng Nuwa, Sol of Selflessness, Administrator of the Empyrean District, and Head of the Feng Clan, hereby Officially Pardon the Incarcerated Aristocrat known as Kanghui of his Estabilshed Criminal Record.

For far too long, Kanghui has been incarcerated under the pretense of a major slight against my very own clan in the attempt to unjustly gain a more favorable living situation for himself. In short, he threatened to state information concisely and in a public manner to levy favor from Fuxi and I; blackmail.

However, this sentence should only bear weight should Kanghui's information not be part of public record, or should it not be true. Having been one of the two intended victims of this blackmail, I can say with confidence that neither case is true. The information Kanghui attempted to use maliciously is technically both true and publicly available.

In a matter of transparency, the topic at hand was the lack of a bedding ceremony betwixt Fuxi and I following our marriage. This itself is not an illegal arrangement, but the ceremony is a customary one for Shang Aristocrats to confirm the validity of marriages and inheritance rights. The slight, therein, was a bid to call into question the validity of the funding for the Eternal Cauldron Project, which would have discouraged many discerning members of our species from participating in the project in the first place.

As far as I had been made aware, this was why Kanghui was arrested and detained, and would have been a reasonably minor infraction that merely caused minor insult. I was grossly misinformed about the nature of his continued detainment.

While words alone will not fix the damages done, acknowledgment of the wrongdoings is the first step in determining reparations for those impacted by this... judicial negligence. Kanghui: may you, and those that cherish you, find peace.
