Not Long Enough.
How long did you know my father?
A/N: I completely lied, I’m back with the angst — I don’t think there are any spoilers in this lol
Tumblr media
Jotaro Kujo lived a short life. One you were thankful to be a part of no matter how much pain it caused you. He was your best friend, and you were far too scared to ruin that regardless of the love you felt for him. So you cheered him on from a safe distance. You remained together through thick and thin. From the dangerous journey to Egypt, to the quirky town of Morioh, you and Jotaro remained thick as thieves even long into your adulthood.
Sitting on a park bench, you stared blankly at the crowd dispersing in front of you. You felt like a hollow shell, one wrong blink in your direction and you’d crumble away like dry sand. It took you a few minutes to realize someone had been sitting next to you on the bench. “How long?” Her words cut you from your stoic daze. “How long?” You turned to Jotaro’s daughter, Jolyne. You had only met her a handful of times but that was all before the girl had even turned 10.
“How long did you know my father?” You looked back over at the gravestone people were placing flowers on before solemnly walking away. “Not long enough.” You heaved a sigh with a heavy heart. “If you…don’t mind. Could you tell me about your relationship with him? He was always so private about his life, and I only remember you from my childhood.” Jolyne’s voice was quiet, much different than the voice you’d hear in the background of Jotaro’s phone calls.
“I’ve known your father since high school.” You toyed with the hem of your sweater. “About two years before his stand manifested.” You glanced at Jolyne, her mouth slightly agape, “so you go way back.” You nodded, despite the dark atmosphere you felt a smile tug at your lips. “Oh, way back. He was…my best friend.” You smiled fondly, those blue eyes flashing in your mind and making your heart clench. “Really?” She sounded skeptical at the idea of her father having friends.
“Yeah, people liked to joke that we were the destruction Duo.” You reached into your sweater pocket pulling out a slightly tattered polaroid and held it out to Jolyne. She took it and stared with wide eyes at what was looking back at her. Her father and you at roughly 15 years old. Both dressed in the typical Japanese high school uniform, what was more shocking is that Jotaro’s hat was still intact. You held back a laugh as she gasped “he’s smiling!” Her somewhat quiet outburst had a few turning their heads.
“I still don’t know how your grandma Holly was able to get him to smile.” You shook your head, taking the polaroid back and putting it in your pocket. Jolyne was surprised you didn’t realize, but his eyes were trained on you in that picture. “Tell me more.” You turned your eyes to the ground, memories flooding your mind as you thought of your younger years with Jotaro.
“Jojo!” You leapt down the stairs in hopes of catching up to the boy. “Jojo, stop walking so quickly!” You finally landed on the sidewalk, catching up to his swift pace. “I’m not walking quick, you’re just walking slow.” You looked up at his face, eyebrows raising when you noticed his hat. “What did you do?” You reached up and tried to poke at it, laughing as he pushed your hand away.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” You rolled your eyes, this must be the finishing touch to his delinquent look. “I think it looks cool.” You weren’t quite sure how the hat was sitting on his head..
And to this day, you never fully understood how he pulled it off. “Your father had such an odd fashion sense, huh?” You smiled as you thought of his rather flashy fashion choices. “Did you know he’s been wearing his hats like that since he was like 16? I never understood why he liked to cover his pretty hair.” You crossed your legs, getting more comfortable on the bench. For some reason, talking about him helped you forget he was gone.
“His fashion sense was a little odd, but I can’t say I’m much different.” You glanced Jolyne up and down and had to agree with her. “You show more skin though, he was never a fan of that for himself. Honestly the most revealing thing I’ve seen him wear was a tank top.” You let your eyes close, millions of memories flashing through your head all at once made your eyes open again. “Was he…always so quiet?” Jolyne’s voice made it sound like she didn’t want to know the answer.
“He was always a man of few words.” You wondered deep down if Jolyne thought the man quiet because of her. “Did he have any other friends?” Such a simple question made you suck in a harsh breath. “He did. While I think I have the honor of saying I was his first friend. He did have another, one we both love dearly.” You hadn’t spoken his name out loud in so long, part of you wondered if you’d be able to do it when she asked the inevitable.
“What was their name?” You took a deep breath, “His name was Kakyoin.” Not only did a million memories of Jotaro flash through your head, but now Kakyoin. “Did I ever meet him?” Your head fell at that. “No…he died a few years before you were born. Twenty three years ago, on the streets of Egypt to be exact.” You saw Jolyne’s head look down from the corner of your eye. “How much did your father tell you about stands?” You had a feeling there were many things the girl didn’t know.
“Not very much. I know very little about his past.” That was more than enough for you. “Do you have anywhere to be?” You figured there was no better time, maybe this would give you both some closure. “I don’t.” She seemed a bit hopeful that you’d tell her the things she was dying to know. “Let me tell you about your father.” Chances were, you knew him even better than his own wife did.
“You know, I can't see you ever getting married.” You laughed as you tapped off the end of your cigarette. “What makes you say that?” He had finally taken his hat off, under the moonlight in the warm desert air you found him to be breathtaking. “You just don’t seem like the type to want to settle down.” You watched Star Platinum light his cigarette, the stand giving you a small wave before disappearing.
As you began telling Jolyne about the journey to Egypt, it dawned on you that you’d never see Star Platinum again.
“So I seem like the type to just sleep around?” You burst out laughing, nearly dropping your cigarette if it wasn’t for your stand catching it. “No that's not what I mean! You don’t seem like the type to do that either. I just feel like you’d be okay if you were alone your whole life.” He raised an eyebrow at you. “So you’re saying I can’t get anyone?”
You rolled your eyes, “fuck off Jojo!” You burst out laughing again, missing the smile that tugged at his lips. “I wouldn’t mind settling down.” His voice was quieter than usual, as if he was hoping you wouldn’t hear. “You wouldn’t?” You took a long inhale, now curious to hear his answer. “I wouldn’t. I think life can be pretty boring if it’s just you.” You never expected to hear an answer like that. “So you’d marry someone and have a kid?” You exhaled, watching the smoke float away. “Marry someone, yeah. A kid? Not sure. I don’t think I’d want one until later in life.”
How ironic that he’d marry and get his wife pregnant only three years later.
“What about you then?” You tilted your head, not expecting him to want an answer back. “I think I’d like to settle down and have a kid. Maybe not too late in life, I’d like to be young enough to chase them around.” You giggled at the thought, giggling harder when you realized you were picturing that life with Jotaro. “How dumb.” You shook your head as you spoke to yourself, looking up into the clear starry sky.
“So my dad defeated Dio?” Jolyne had hung on to your every word. You nodded, lighting up a cigarette and laughing as she scrunched her nose. “Sorry, old habits are hard to move on from. But yeah, your dad defeated Dio.” You watched the smoke float into the air. You’d been sitting there on the bench for so long now. The crowd had completely disbursed, leaving you and Jolyne alone with his grave.
“What about the Morioh place?” You loved seeing her eyes sparkle, she looked so much like her father. “Oh, the summer of 99 was an odd one. I’m surprised he didn’t go gray from it.” You thought of the wild antics that occurred in Morioh, wishing momentarily that you were back there. You wished Jotaro’s final resting place was in Morioh alongside Kakyoin. But you supposed that in Florida just a bit away from the beach was perfect for him as well.
“How do you get your hair to stay up like that?” You were fascinated by Josuke’s pompadour. Jotaro on the other hand thought it looked a bit dumb, he knew better than to say something though. “Lots of hair gel.” He seemed more than happy to show off his hair for you. “You should try giving Jotaro a pompadour.” You chuckled as Jotaro shot you a death glare. It had been so long since you had been able to hang out with the man.
Having moved to America for school it was hard to see him. You traveled to Floridia maybe once a year to go visit him and his wife and his little daughter.
You couldn’t believe how differently your lives had turned out. Watching Jolyne react to the words you spoke took you back to the conversations you’d have with Jotaro. It was bizarre to you that she was all grown up.
“You’ll have to Josuke! I think Jolyne would find it hysterical.” You watched Josuke size up Jotaro’s hair, eyes turning to you know confusion. “Jolyne?” Your mouth fell open, looking at Jotaro in shock. “You didn’t tell him you’re a dad?!” Josuke practically fell out of his chair. “You’re a dad?!” He yelled, some eyes turning to your table at the sudden outburst. “Good grief.” His eyes dipped under his hat, leaving Josuke to look at you in shock. “He is a dad to a little seven year old girl named Jolyne. She lives in America with her mom.” Your heart skipped a beat when you noticed the confusion in Josuke’s eyes. “Oh so…you aren’t…” you cut him off with a laugh, hoping Jotaro didn’t hear his confusion.
“That Kira guy sounds gross. I’m glad he’s dead.” You and Jolyne shared a small laugh, the sun was beginning to descend but neither of you had the heart to leave him yet. “Your dad was pretty cool, huh?” You smiled as she nodded. “I’m glad to know he was a good guy. As I got older I was always worried I was admiring him and he was secretly a horrible guy.” You know their relationship has been a bit rocky. Due to work he was never really around, and when they were he barely talked.
“Your father may not have been the greatest father, but he was one hell of a guy with good intentions. He was just bad at expressing himself. I hope you know he really loved you, Jolyne.” You looked at her, watching her lower lip tremble. “Sometimes I thought he hated me.”
You shook your head, “you were his greatest adventure, Jolyne.”
Something in your voice must have given it away. “Miss Y/N?” You looked up to the golden sky before replying. “Yes?” You knew what was coming and you didn’t know if you had the heart to answer it in truth.
“Were you… in love with my father?”
Your eyes fluttered shut, taking a deep inhale of the cool air and sighing it back out.
“I was…and I still am. I probably always will be.”
“Then…why didn’t you end up with him?” It was an innocent question, but one you didn’t know if you could answer. “I…was a coward. By the time I mustered up any courage to ask him…he was marrying your mother. Plus, I didn’t want to ruin our friendship if he didn’t feel the same.” You toyed with the polaroid in your pocket as you spoke.
“He loved you back. There is no doubt in my mind.”
Your head whipped around to look at her, eyes wide with shock. “What makes you say that?” You felt like you needed another cigarette at that moment. “He always looked forward to your phone calls. He’d be in a good mood after them. He always kept a picture of the two of you on his desk. There are so many other reasons you know.”
You shook your head, there was no way. “He loved your mother, Jolyne don’t be ridiculous.” You folded your arms over your chest, as if to protect yourself from the painfully obvious truth. “He loved her, but I think he would have left her in a heartbeat if you had said you loved him.” There was no malice in her tone, you would have thought she would be upset about it. “I think you have the wrong idea.”
“Think what you will, Miss y/n. But I’m almost positive that man loved you just as much as you loved him. Had he not gotten my mom pregnant with me I don’t think he would have married her.” You felt like you were tearing apart a family, regardless of their divorce. “They are divorced…and he's gone.” You must have said your thoughts out loud.
“I…I don’t know what to say.” Jolyne stood now, you watched as she turned to face you. “You don’t have to say anything. Just take some time to grieve. There isn’t anything we can do now but move forward with our lives.” She left without another word, leaving you alone with the realization that maybe, just maybe, he had loved you back all along.
You waited till she was gone to get up, making your way over to the flower covered gravestone. You fell to your knees, chest heaving with the tears you had been holding back. “Jojo…we are idiots aren’t we?” You wiped your tears as they fell, more fell regardless.
“In another lifetime, let’s try this again okay? We’ll do it right next time.”

Favorite Crime {Dio x Fem! reader} preview
Just so I could call you mine…
A/N: This is a teaser! It’s going to be 3-4 parts! The title is inspired by Olivia Rodrigo’s “Favorite Crime” but the story is not!
Tumblr media
You laid back, your dress puffing out around you as you looked up into the blue sky. “What are you doing?” The sound of a male voice caught you off guard, as quickly as you had laid back — you sat up once more. “Looking at the clouds, isn’t that obvious?” You turned your head in the direction of the voice, eyes going wide as you realized who was talking to you.
“Mind if I join you then?” The blonde boy was already walking over to take a seat beside you. “Would my answer even change your decision?” He sat beside you, leaving only a foot of space between the two of you. “No it wouldn’t.” He folded his arms behind his head before leaning back into the grass. “Dio Brando, right?” You didn’t have the courage to look at him as you spoke.
“Ah so you’ve heard of me.” He didn’t seem shocked, but you were certain if you looked over he’d be smirking. “It’s impossible to not know who you are. It’s not everyday someone moves into the Joestar mansion.” You contemplated if you wanted to lay down next to him. Part of you was worried he would try something if you did. You didn’t want to paint the boy to be evil in your head, but previous gossip floated to your mind nonetheless.
“It’s also not every day that a pretty maiden is strolling through this part of the valley.” You felt heat rise up in your cheeks. “You are more of a flirt than I thought you would be.” You turned to look at him now, trying to maintain the level of composure you hoped you were giving off. He was smirking up at you, amber eyes sparkling in the sunlight. “So you’ve thought of me?” At his implications your tough act seemed to falter.

One Last Time — Jotaro’s POV
I love you. I’ve always loved you.
A/N: a few people requested Jotaro’s point of view so here it is! Fluffy and smutty posts coming soon cause my heart can’t handle more angst right now.
One Last Time — Original
Tumblr media
He tapped his pen against his desk, the new research paper he was writing was consuming more of his time than he anticipated. “Good grief…” he took his hat off, running his hand through his hair before sliding the hat back over his head. He needed a distraction, he was getting nowhere by just staring at the page.
His eyes trailed over to the framed picture that always resided on his desk. He smiled as he took it in, you were all so young back then. He was baffled at how time flew, his eyes trailed to his office door as he heard Jolyne running past it to her room. Yelling something about her friend calling her and to not interrupt. That was more so to her mother than him, she knew not to interrupt her father when he was trying to finish a paper.
He jumped slightly as his phone began to ring, for a second he almost ignored it. He thought it was Jolyne’s friend calling, that is until he realized it was his office phone ringing, not his home phone. He glanced over the digits and froze. “Y/n?” He picked up the call, waiting to hear your voice. “Hey Jojo.” You rarely called him anymore. If you did it was usually through the normal line not his office.
“Is something wrong?” He jumped to conclusions whenever anyone called his office line. It was usually only used for colleagues, both stand users and his fellow marine biologists. “I just wanted to hear your voice.” That's odd. He tried to shake his worry and play along, “you know I’m not much of a talker.” A smile tugged at his lips regardless.
“I know. I was just reminiscing. You’d always let me talk your ear off, remember?” He smiled, eyes closing as he relished in your voice. “Of course I remember.” He never told you, but your rambling was what kept him sane for a majority of your Egypt journey. He laughed as you reminisced about Polnareff’s antics. He knew it killed you that he wouldn’t open up more. But both men agreed it was best if you didn’t know what happened to him.
He knew the journey to Egypt affected you just as much as it affected him all these years later. Fifty odd days still hang in your mind despite being all grown up. Those days were fun, regardless of its outcome. His old man wasn’t wrong, it was a fun trip even with its ups and downs. Sometimes jotaro found himself wishing he was back there, there were things he wanted to change after all. No stand ability could do that though, no matter how much he wished.
“How’s Jolyne?” At the mention of his daughter’s name he snapped out of his daydream. Even though she was fifteen now, it was still a bit jarring to think he had a child. “She’s doing well, she’s managed to stay out of trouble for about a month now but I don’t want to jinx it.” He sighed, his daughter was just like him. This must be some weird version of karma coming back to get him after the trouble he put his mom through.
“That’s good. She takes after you Jotaro so I’m not surprised.” His eyes fluttered closed, Jolyne really was just like him…but she was also just like you. Somehow, some way, she had the attitude and snarkiness of her favorite aunt/uncle. “She reminds me of you, y/n. Don’t act like you were some Saint.” He loved hearing your laughter through the phone.
“She’s in for a hell of a ride then. Do you remember back before the whole Egypt trip? When we were just classmates?” He squeezed his eyes shut, cringing as a smile appeared on his face yet again. He knew the story you were about to tell. It was one that you never let him live down. “Don't remind me y/n.” He rubbed his hand over his face, he would always say it was because the teacher was an asshole in general. He knew you knew otherwise. “You know I have to, Jojo. Did you ever tell her that story? Or are you too afraid it will give her ideas.”
He cringed at the thought of Jolyne pulling something like that off. He could only imagine the call he’d receive from her school. Dr.Kujo your daughter is being sent to juvie again. He shook his head “She already gets into enough trouble. She doesn’t need more fuel.” He really didn’t know how his mother did it. He was certain he’d turn Gray by the time he was 40 from all of Jolyne’s antics.
“Jojo, I don’t want to darken the mood but I have an important question to ask you.”
He stilled completely, breath catching in his throat as he replied “ask away.” He sat up fully, chair creaking under him as he almost braced himself for the impact of your question. “Do you remember the night I kissed you, Jojo?” His heart hammered in his chest. Of course he remembered it. He could never forget his first kiss after all. He would never forget his first — and only kiss with you.
“I do. How could I ever forget?” Where is this going?
“Jojo…why didn’t you ever take it further?” That question made his mind go completely blank. It was the question he feared you asking him most. “Be honest with me, please.” He sat there for a moment, trying to collect his thoughts. He knew the answer, of course he knew the answer. But he never thought he would have to admit it to you.
“Because I thought you were stupid for doing it. You deserved and still deserve someone far better than me.”
That was his truth. He knew you could do so much better than him. Why would you ever want to spend your life with someone like him? He was in no place to be the holder of your heart. In his attempts to move on, he met his wife. He forced himself to forget about his feelings for you in hopes of you finding someone worth your time.
“You’re a big idiot, you know that Jojo?” His eyes went wide, that certainly wasn’t the reaction he had prepared for. “I have been hopelessly in love with you for years, Jojo. I pushed that all aside because I wanted you to be happy. That's why I never tried again. I thought you didn't feel the same. That’s why I encouraged you when you told me about her, that’s why I helped you pick out her wedding ring. That’s why I went out of my way to fly to Florida for her baby shower. Are you telling me I spent all that time helping you get with another woman when you felt for me…what I felt for you?”
He sat there in silence, taking in everything you had just confessed to him. At that moment he agreed with you. He really was an idiot, but it wasn’t like he could throw his life away now for you. Regardless of his current relationship with his wife, he had a daughter. He couldn’t just leave them for you. Even if his heart wanted that. “I…I have loved you since we met in class during our first year of high school.”
He felt a wave of relief wash over him for finally saying that. Had he gotten over himself all those years ago and said that to you. Maybe things would be much different than they are right now. He still thought back to his first day, something that seemed like an absolute eternity ago…but yesterday at the same time. You had sat beside him in home room. Something he would have been annoyed by if he wasn’t hypnotized by your personality the moment you began talking to him.
“You are the biggest idiot I’ve ever met, Jotaro Kujo. I can’t believe I fell in love with you.” Jotaro stared at the framed picture again. He waited 18 years to hear those words leave your lips. And now that he finally heard them, he didn’t know how to react. There was one thing that caught him off guard though. The anxiety of why you had called his office phone creeped back up on him. Your voice sounded weak.
“Y/n?” He was standing now, as if he could run out the door and magically make it to Japan in a second. Something was wrong, he felt it. “Maybe in another lifetime things would have worked out for us, Jojo. Take care of yourself okay?” Those words made his heart drop into his stomach. “Y/N?!” He yelled into the phone, eyes going wide when the line remained connected but you didn’t respond.
“What’s wrong?” He tried again, nails digging into his desk as he frantically looked for his cell phone. “Hello?” He tried again but was met with silence. The line was still connected. He was panicking now, not wanting to think the worst but you were leaving him no choice. “I…I don’t know if you can hear me…fuck.” He was losing his cool fast.
“Just…fuck…” he knew deep down his words were falling on deaf ears. He dialed the number for the Speedwagon Foundation, the one Joseph gave him to use in case of emergencies. The second the line picked up he began speaking, telling the agent your number, your address and telling them to track you down. If anyone could get to you in time, it would be those at the Speedwagon Foundation stationed in Japan.
Jotaro kept his office phone off the hook, the call still connected fifteen minutes later. That is until a male voice came through it. “Mr.Kujo? I’m a member of the Speedwagon Foundation. We’ve located them. Mr.Kujo…I’m so sorry but they are deceased.” Those seven words made Jotaro sink to the ground, clutching his office phone tightly to his ear as he processed it.
They are deceased…gone…dead. Y/n is dead…
“T-thank you. Please take their body back to the Foundation. I’ll be in Japan within the next two days.” As he turned off the phone, vengeance and anger he hadn’t felt since he was 17 flooded his soul once more. His voice shook “I love you. I’ve always loved you. Damnit.” For the first time in his life, tears threatened to fall. “Why didn’t you call for help?” His hands balled into fists, Star Platinum appeared next to him with a look of worry. His mind raced with everything that had just occurred.
Within five minutes his entire life was flipped upside down.

One Last Time
I just wanted to hear your voice. That’s all
Warnings: this does contain a tiny spoiler for SO - but like it’s kinda obvious lol so idek if you’d consider it a spoiler. Enjoy the angst y’all 😀
Jotaro’s POV
Tumblr media
You slumped down, clutching your stomach as if that would stop the blood gushing from the wound. “Shit.” You had gotten away at least, the enemy tailing you must have decided to show you mercy. There was no way you’d survive the wound you had been delivered.
Shakily you reached into your pocket, praying your phone hadn’t fallen out during the fight. A wave of relief washed over you as you pulled it from your pocket. Your vision was blurry, tears burning your eyes from the pain radiating from your stomach. “C’mon…please pick up…” you dialed the number you knew by heart.
“Y/n?” You felt a stray tear slip down your cheek at the sound of his voice. “Hey Jojo.” You forced your voice into a steady rhythm, you didn’t want him to know anything was wrong. “Is something wrong?” His voice was deep, laced with worry. “ I just wanted to hear your voice.” Your head tilted back, hitting the brick wall you were slumped against.
“You know I’m not a talker.” You could hear the smile on his face as he spoke. “I know. I was just reminiscing. You’d always let me talk your ear off, remember?” You and Jotaro had grown a bit distant as you got older. After he settled down with an American woman and had a child with her, you found it harder to talk to him. Not out of jealousy. You loved that man enough that as long as he was happy, you didn’t care if it was with you. Even if it killed you inside.
“Of course I remember.” You glanced down at your wound, blood was pooling on the ground around you now. You figured you had maybe three minutes at most, you needed to make them count. “Do you remember that night when we were passing through India, when Pol tried to order food but got so flustered he began speaking French.” You laughed softly at the memory. “I do. My old man tried to help him and ended up offending the woman.”
You shared a laugh, you wondered how he was doing. After his incident in Italy he became more distant when it came to phone calls and letters. You wished he had opened up more and told you what happened. But…Polnareff being Polnareff didn’t want you to get involved with such dangerous work. “I still think about the time he nearly cried over the toilet situation in India.” You giggled as Jotaro spoke. You still remembered the look he gave you when the French man came running out.
Despite your wound, you felt no pain as you listened to his voice. “How is Jolyne?” You had only met Jotaro’s daughter a handful of times, but she considered you to be the cool aunt/uncle and often sent you letters. She was 15 years old now, and already getting into just as much trouble as her father did. “She’s doing well, she’s managed to stay out of trouble for about a month now but I don’t want to jinx it.”
You wanted to ask him about his wife, but you knew that topic could get rocky. “That’s good. She takes after you Jotaro so I’m not surprised.” There was a moment of silence, just enough to make your breathing hitch as you realized you lost feeling from the wound down. “She reminds me of you, y/n. Don’t act like you were some Saint.” You laughed at that, the lack of pain making you feel weightless.
“She’s in for a hell of a ride then. Do you remember back before the whole Egypt trip? When we were just classmates?” You knew he did, he knew exactly what incident you were about to bring up. “Don't remind me y/n.” You could hear the smile on his face yet again. “You know I have to, Jojo. Did you ever tell her that story? Or are you too afraid it will give her ideas.”
The story you were referring to regarded Jotaro beating the living shit out of a teacher. His reasoning? He was too harsh on female students. Jotaro likes to claim it was just because the man was an ass, but you knew otherwise. “She already gets into enough trouble. She doesn’t need more fuel.” You smiled at that, your honorary niece was a feisty one, just like her father.
“Jojo, I don’t want to darken the mood but I have an important question to ask you.” Ironic you say that as you are bleeding out. You didn’t know if you wanted to ask the question that had been haunting your mind for the last 15 plus years, but you figured there was no other time to do so. “Ask away.” You knew he was sitting in his office, you heard his chair creak as he shifted his weight.
You closed your eyes, trying to focus your breathing so your thoughts remain coherent. “Do you remember the night I kissed you, Jojo?” It was after the Egypt trip was said and done. Back in Japan only a few months later. “I do, how could I ever forget?” Jotaro’s mind was taken back to that night some odd 18 years prior. You were his first kiss after all.
“Jojo…why didn’t you ever take it further?” You had kissed him, knowing he would never try and pursue a relationship unless you showed blatant interest. Yet, the next day he acted like he didn’t know what you were talking about when it came to that kiss. “Be honest with me, please.” You tried as he remained silent.
“Because I thought you were stupid for doing it. You deserved and still deserve someone far better than me.”
Your tears slid down your cheeks, dripping down your neck. You were finding it harder and harder to keep yourself awake. You didn’t have much left. “You’re a big idiot, you know that Jojo?” He was quiet so you continued.
You needed to hear it. You refused to die until you heard him say it. You were met with silence on the other line, your arm was getting heavy. It was too hard to keep the phone to your ear. Slowly, you fell sideways, the phone pressed to your ear as you hit the ground fully. “I…I have loved you since we met in class during our first year of high school.” There was a weight lifted off his shoulders finally admitting that.
You wanted to scream and cry…yet laugh out of joy at the same time. “You are the biggest idiot I’ve ever met, Jotaro Kujo. I can’t believe I fell in love with you.” You let out a weak laugh, your vision becoming tunneled as you laid on the cold hard pavement of the alleyway. “Y/N?” Something in your voice must have given it away, you picked up on Jotaro’s worry.
“Maybe in another lifetime things would have worked out for us, Jojo. Take care of yourself okay?” You heard him yelling out of panic into the phone, something along the lines of “what’s wrong?” and “hello?” Your last memories were of Jotaro’s voice.

He has no reason to be unhappy. He sighed, lighting up another cigarette that he promised he’d stop doing. He sat on the bench just a little ways away from the sand. This was the beach he always stopped by after work, the one that always reminded him of Morioh. Ironic how the beaches of Japan and the beaches of Florida could be so similar in appearance.
The sun was beginning to set behind him, painting the waves in a golden hue. He watched his smoke blow away in the wind, deciding if it was worth another drag. He really should stop smoking after all, he said it calmed him but it always brought up unwanted memories. Your laughter floats through his mind, his eyes closing slowly as he relishes in the memory.
His cigarette tricks always made you laugh. He opened his eyes, heart skipping a beat when he realized he was lost in thought about you. “Good grief…” he put the cigarette out, shoving his hand in his pockets and making his way towards the water. His mind wandered again.
“Jotaro!” You laughed softly as he did his cigarette trick with three cigs this time. “You are so strange.” You plucked one of the cigs from his mouth once he stuck them back out. You watched him raise an eyebrow as you brought it to your lips and took a long drag from it.
“I’m strange? You just stole my cig.” You watched the smoke blow away with the breeze. You and jotaro did this at almost any hotel you stayed at, finding a way to break onto the roof and sit there for hours under the stars. You weren’t exactly dating, but you found comfort in each other while on this journey.
“It was mine to begin with Kujo.” You only used his last name when you wanted to annoy him. “It was in my mouth first L/N.” You smiled, pulling it away from your lips and sticking it back to his. The surprised look faded as quickly as it appeared “I don’t want it back now!” You shrugged, plucking another cig from his lips.
“Think of it as a kiss. We shared saliva after all.”
He snapped back out of it when the waves nearly crashed over his shoes. “Damnit.” He shook his head trying to shake you from his mind. As he moved along the shore, his mind got the better of him, pulling him back into memories he was determined to forget.
“Stop bickering.” Kakyoin rubbed his temples as you and Jotaro went back and forth. You both stopped to look at him, “I’m not sharing a room with you two if you are going to bitch instead of sleep.” He was trying to be stern, but shit eating grins appeared on both you and Jotaro’s faces. “Oh no…” he shook his head, leaving the room to find Joseph. Maybe if he was lucky, he’d have a spare set of earbuds.
“Let’s give him space.” You slid off the bed, assuming Jotaro would follow you. Of course he did, getting up and accompanying you out the door. Jotaro would never admit it, but he would do anything you asked. He had a soft spot for you, but he’d sooner die than let you know. You had to have known.
“I heard the beach is only a few blocks away.” You knew Jotaro had an interest in the ocean, you had even brought it up in a few conversations. “The old man will kill us for going so far, but fuck it.” That's how a lot of your own personal adventures went. In the end you’d get chewed out by Joseph Joestar for wandering so far away.
Jotaro smiled at that, eyes disappearing under the brim of his hat. He didn’t like thinking back on the trip to Egypt. Yet every day after work he would find himself absolutely immersed in his past. You flooded his mind every time he left, regardless of the time of day or where he was. You haunted his thoughts 20 odd years later.
“Jojo!” You yelled in surprise. You only called him Jojo when he caught you off guard. He didn’t acknowledge you, eyes disappeared under the brim of his hat to hide his smile. He has found a shop just a little ways away from the hotel that sold the food you had been drooling about since leaving Japan.
“Wow Jotaro, nothing for me?” Polnareff sighed dramatically as you unwrapped the food. “Get your own.” He lit a cigarette and sat across from you. “You cold hearted bastard!” Polnareff cried out, throwing a hand over his face as he faked tears. You burst out laughing at that. “Would you relax!” Avdol rolled his eyes, moving to sit beside you with his own food.
“Did everyone get something?” Polnareff seemed shocked as Joseph and Kakyoin came back with their own food. “Snooze you lose Pol.” You laughed, shoving food into your mouth and sighing dreamily. “Thanks Jojo.” All eyes shot to Jotaro, noticing the way he looked down further to hide his face.
He thought he was subtle with his emotions. He wasn’t. Not even close. He was practically an open book for everyone to read when it came to you. You — for lack of better words — were his achilles’ heel.
He stopped walking, turning to face the waves. The sun was setting even deeper into the sky behind him. The once golden waves were dark, shimmering in pinks and purples. As the water turned darker, so did his thoughts.
“I’m sorry Jotaro…” Joseph and Jotaro sat in the ambulance in silence. “They died alongside Kakyoin. Dio wasn’t bluffing when he said that.” Joseph watched his grandson turn in on himself, eyes disappearing under the brim of his hat.
The old man’s heart squeezed tightly when a stray tear slipped from under his hat. He knew better than to even mention it. Instead, they sat in silence. Allowing his grandson to mourn the loss of his love and his best friend. In that moment, Joseph wished he could take all that pain away. He knew how it felt.
Jotaro never got a chance to properly mourn your death. You and Kakyoin’s bodies had been recovered from the streets of Egypt by the Speedwagon foundation, but he didn’t have the courage to see them. He didn’t even go to your grave after you were buried. Your final resting place was in Japan, alongside Kakyoin. Despite the outcome, at least there was a body to take back. Avdol and Iggy weren’t as lucky.
He stared out into the waters. “Y/n…” your name still came out pained when he spoke it. He shouldn’t feel this much grief for someone he never even officially dated. He was married now for fuck sake, with a beautiful daughter — who unfortunately seemed to be following in her father’s footsteps. There was one thing that killed him though.
He saw you in her.
“The sunset is beautiful, isn’t it y/n?” He knew those words were meaningless. He simply couldn’t let you go. No matter how hard he wanted to.
