y’all love the morally gray, snarky, grief stricken characters until it’s a woman. i’ve seen so much discourse regarding female characters who display the exact same character traits as male leads and are criticized for it while the men are praised. let women be cruel and vindictive. let them deal with their grief and trauma in destructive ways. let them be real. give them the same treatment you would give to your favorite male love interest.

Nesta is so iconic actually like what other character got into a fight with an ancient god-like pasta pot and won? who else sucked the magic out of the pit of creation? name someone who stole magic so strong and powerful it made her a death god?
killed hundreds of soldiers without even being trained?
had a high lord nervous and shifting on his feet just by looking at him?
can wield a deadly trove of magical artifacts with no problem?
has an actual GODDESS thinking about her?
has great taste in food and books??
looks fabulous at all times even when covered in mud and black water??
beheaded the man who violated her and fucked up her life as revenge and fulfilling her promise to him on the night her whole life was turned upside down????
beheaded ANOTHER monster who tried to rape and kill her while UNDERWATER and raising an ARMY OF THE DEAD????

Nesta: *glares at Cassian the same way she glared at everyone*
Cassian: she thinks I am not worth being kind to because I am but a lowly Illyrian bastard
Nesta: *doesn’t speak to Cassian after the war the way she doesn’t speak to anyone*
Cassian: Nesta has deemed me unworthy of her time because I am but a lowly Illyrian bastard
Nesta: *drinks herself half to death and copes by tearing the new body she hates as if it is an object which means nothing to her*
Cassian: wow. Nesta is sleeping with all these males instead of me because I am but a lowly Illyrian bastard.
The IC (and fandom): Nesta how COULD you constantly tell Cassian he is not worthy. How could you go on and on about him being a bastard. How could you target him specifically with your cruelty when HE is so clearly the one in a vulnerable spot right now. You don’t understand. He was once poor for like 8 years as a child and 500 years later despite endless wealth and power is still caught up in that and attributes everything wrong in his life to it. How could you reinforce that by not fucking him immediately??? What a monster. Witch. How awful!!!
Friendly reminder that Nesta literally mentions the *bastard* thing ONCE in a BONUS CHAPTER while Cassian is purposefully sexually goading her. She then defends him for literally the rest of the series while he is continuously ashamed of her and doesn’t even talk to her in front of his friends so …
Can we please move on from this narrative?Like damn, a girl can’t even be traumatized by a war without everyone making it about Cassian’s insecurities.

Just a reminder that Nesta held absolutely no responsibility caring or providing for Elain and Feyre just because she was older.

So tired of the “Nesta has hurt and wronged so many people” narrative because who are they talking about?
A case can be made for both Feyre and Cassian, sure. While a similar case can be made for their treatment towards her. But that’s literally it.
Rhysand? Please
Morrigan? Get over yourself
Elain? Out of the question
Azriel? Of course not
Amren? I. Wish.
Nesta isn’t the monster you all have made her out to be and she always delivers what she has been served. Treat her with respect and she will treat you accordingly.

Let's talk about Sisterhood
Nesta and Elain vs. Nesta and Gwyn
First, let's look at Nesta and Elain's relationship
Nesta was willing to marry Tomas so Elain could be fed and taken care of
Nesta was willing to sell her body on the streets for the money to feed Elain
Nesta was willing to go to Prythian for Elain's safety
After being boiled alive by the Cauldron, Nesta's biggest concern was Elain and the trauma that Elain was forced to endure
During those months after Hybern when Elain was suffering, Nesta stayed by her side. Every. Single. Day. Making sure that Elain was alright and that she didn't kill herself.
The one time that Nesta needed Elain, when Nesta was suffering, all she wanted was for Elain to come with her to some of her favorite taverns. But Elain couldn't be bothered because she wouldn't be comfortable in those taverns.
Elain chose comfortability over Nesta, her sister.
Now let's look at Nesta and Gwyn's relationship
Nesta and Gwyn have helped each other face their fears and their traumas.
Gwyn came to practice, and became a warrior, because Nesta encouraged her to, and then Gwyn was able to encourage other priestesses to join the training.
Gwyn introduced Nesta to the Valkyries, the ribbon, Mind-Stilling, their training and ambush techniques, etc.
Nesta helped give Gwyn the confidence she needed to begin to face Merrill and the world outside the library.
And when Cassian broke Nesta's heart, Gwyn left the library, without hesitation, to go comfort Nesta. Was Gwyn scared? Yes, so scared she almost puked. But she went anyways, because Nesta was more important to her than her fear.
Gwyn chose Nesta, her sister, over her comfortability.
Elain might be Nesta's blood-sister, but Gwyn is her sister in all the ways that count.

People saying that what Nesta endured isn't enough trauma to form her characteristic personality are ignorant and awful. Let me tell you something, uncompassionate folks, loosing a parent is incredibly hard, and enough to break even the strongest soul. Now lets add abuse from her relatives and a neglecting father... Do you see the vision?
Then she lost everything she had, and to top it all she suffered se*ual assault. She was abused again when they turned her against her will and she had to see her father die, and surely, that caused her guilt. That, combined with the personality her mother built, made her respond the way she did.
You can dislike Nesta, consider her the worst character in those books (even tho you have an assaulter as protagonist and an even meaner person as her second in command) but I seriously can't take that you invalidate her trauma cause there are real people who resonate with her and have suffered the same.
And I'm not here to excuse her behavior, she was definetly outta pocket in a lot of her interactions, and it's ok if the other characters respond to her. But you have to understand that trauma response can also be beign selfdestructive and hurting others, and that is something that the person needs to change, but that also comes with healing. And spoiler, trauma in real life is usually like this.
Anyway there's many takes on this and you can have your opinion but I urge everyone who believes that trauma can be messured or that not every significant event in a life can impact it in a negative way, to reflect and to actually think before putting something harmful on the Internet.

I can forgive SJM for a lot of things, but villainizing Nesta's character when she's a victim of Childhood neglect, sexual assault, PTSD, War trauma, abuse, and multiple violations to her body just doesn't sit right with me. Especially if other characters have some subjectively worse things. Nesta's not evil or a villain. She's a survivor that a multitude of people can relate to and it disgust me that so many strong individuals have to deal with hate from this fandom and sometimes have to share their own person experiences because they like a character who deals with trauma realistically and the way that they do. So please you don't have to like Nesta's characte, but understand why we do!!!

About a year and half ago I wrote a song about an incredible story, the story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in. Figuratively and literally. The juxtaposition of her loneliness and independence. Her longing and her stillness. Her curiosity and fear, all tangled up. Her persisting gentleness… and the world’s betrayal of it. I wrote this one alone in the middle of the night and then Aaron Dessner and I meticulously worked on a sound that we felt would be authentic to the moment in time when this story takes place. I made a wish that one day you would hear it. ‘Carolina’ is out now 🥺

feyre to nesta : “it is about how it reflects upon me, upon rhys, and upon my court when my damned sister spends our money on wine and gambling and does nothing to contribute to this city! if my sister cannot be controlled, then why should we have the right to rule over anyone else?”
meanwhile also feyre : doesn’t contribute to her city unless building herself and her friends a 6th mansion counts, has literally no right to rule over these people anyway, ignores all other areas of the night court except velaris etc etc etc (and the list goes on and on and on)
who the fuck cares about nesta archeron drinking and fucking when women are literally getting tortured and crippled in YOUR COURT like let’s focus on things that really matter here babe 👍
there are genuinely so many issues in the night court and the most pressing to feysand was getting nesta under control? nesta drinking and sleeping around was the most embarrassing thing to them? i just have to laugh, i mean, have they seen the state of their court?
and technically 😌 nesta was contributing to the city by supporting small businesses and giving back these business owners some of their tax money 💀💀💀💀💀 ok i’m kidding but still
sarah janet really thought this was a girlboss move on feyre’s part but really it’s just embarrassing and continues to highlight how bad rhys and feyre are at their job
