My love letter to the queer silver lining of 2020

A lot of revolutionary, unprecedented things happened in 2020 — that... goes without saying

But among all the chaos, one thing I can be grateful for was the surge of queer representation in western animation

I feel lucky to be alive in this time of change, and I’m also excited for the younger generation who gets to grow up with these explicitly queer shows

It gives me hope that this kind of representation will make it easier for them to figure things out :’)

A little Eridan essay.

This DOES contain a little of Feferi hate, sorry :/

1- Eridan doesn't actually belives in genocide, nor does he wants to kill all landdwellers.

I don't know how to make this more obvious, but Eridan genocide facade has always been to try to make himself look tought and to gain attention.

Eridan is...emotional to say at least, he models himself after famous figures (mostly likely other seadwellers), and by extension, he acts like an asshole to keep it up, be by talking about exterminating landdwellers, or by how hight he is in the hemosprectum. But let's also remember that his closest friend is Karkat fucking Vantas, they are friends before and after he knew his blood color, do you really think if Eridan actually wanted to kill all landdwellers he would still be friends with Karkat? Hell no!

He even feels bad after he talks shit about Sollux, and them discovers that he's dead, due to Eridan being dramatic, he says a lot of things he doesn't mean, he doesn't believe in genocide, it's a facade.

2-He doesn't enjoy hunting lusus.

He needs to hunt them for Feferi's Lusus, because he is aware that if he doesn't, millions of trolls will die, that's a big responsibility, yet he always feed it enough to keep it calm.

He also is aware that he's an orphaner, he kills other trolls parents, ne needs to do it because it's a necessity or his whole species will die, that clearly must affect him mentally in some way, and there's where Feferi comes, I'm my opinion one if the reasons he's so obsessed about their relationship, it's because it's easier to think about romance than the fact that he's a orphaner, and also it's easier to keep yourself busy by trying to find always to kill all landdwellers, them to think about how you're an murder.

3-Feferi wasn't a good moiral.

My feeling for Fefer are complicated, but I don't hate hater, and I do think she didn't deserve to die, but she wasn't a good moiral for Eridan, or at least not the moiral he needed.

She views him as an high maintenance moiral, which is valid, but the problem is how long has she's been thinkin like this, and it clearly affects their relationship, because Eridan is an emotional boy.

She's not afraid to raise her voice at him, nor to be fucking rude, she's not an super patient or a perfect angel, and I want to add this because I'm tired of seeing people calling Eridan a creppy, Feferi is not fragile, she can defend herself, they see each other as equals. And also this chat shows that Eridan again, is just emotional, no wonder he cares about quadrants so much, especially since in Alternia culture, it's believed that soulmates exists, and that there's someone who's perfect for you, and that's why he's a "flirt", he wants to find someone to be in a relationship, he wants be with someone.

But back on Feferi:

If I remember correctly this is one of only parts on the comic where Eridan clearly says he hates himself, he says Vriska is getting bored of him early on, but this is the only time we see him talking bad about himself, and Feferi gets annoyed at him for it, do you think this is how you should react to your moiral saying they hate themselves? Because it's not, and that's most likely not the only time she reacted that way, there's a reson why he's closer to Karkat, and I doubt it's only because he feels red for her. I'll give it a pass because they have already broken up by that time, but it doesn't mean it less fucked up, and she does make a fish pun while telling him how she's tired of his drama and tell him to shut up, c'mon guys, Feferi wasn't a good moiral for him, she didn't even want to be with him, but she had to "keep him for being a danger to other or yourself", and also I'm sorry, but if you don't think one of the reasons she stayed so long in a relationship she didn't want to be, is because she needed to feed her lusus, you are wrong.
