Changed music
Tumblr media
I'm still using the same music as I was before but I changed up how it was being done because previously I would make it change to a faster version of the music once you go into the next area but I prefer it being that it changes the music to be faster once you have unlocked the next area

Directional Cube
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the moment I am in the process of making a directional cube that will tell the player which direction the door is to the next maze/area is once they have completed the pressure plates in the area they are currently in.
One of the issues I am currently facing is that I cannot seem to set the directional cube back to being invisible once I switch to the next maze to then make visible again once all 8 pressure plates have been pressed.

Location Marker
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This code makes it so that there is a small directional cube that will take you to the next maze location once you have done all the pressure plates in that area.
During this process I had a couple of issues that would not make it work but fortunately I had just forgot to change the class actor.

Two Week Plan
Over the next two weeks, my aim is to be focused towards finishing the game, building the last maze alongside the UI so that the players know what to do.
Things to work on:
Get my UI done (timer to see who does it fastest)
Finish 1 or 2 more mazes.
Main Menu (to explain the game)
game music (audio)

Why do I not have a player character?
This is a question I get asked a decent amount, and the answer is pretty simple, the reason as to why I don't have a player character is because it is inspired by puzzle games that use blocks to be solved and to make the player feel like they are solving a puzzle and not inside of a puzzle.

Character Movement | UE5
Tumblr media
I wanted to change the character movement from 8 directional to 4 directional, at first I was stuck because I didn't know how to do it but after a lot of searching and asking around I finally got an answer to how I can come to the solution I want.
Tumblr media
During this process I decided to change the character to a cube so it looks better whilst going through the maze.

2nd Maze | UE5
Tumblr media
I have created a 2nd maze and I made it a different colour to not confuse the player, at the moment I am having the issue of having more pressure plates because they are a requirement to activate all of them before the 1st door opens, I think my only option is to either use a different thing to unlock the next door or make a new level between mazes.

Door | UE5
After the pressure plates had been created I decided to make it so once all 4 are pressed it will open up the path to the next area, this was done by making a Door blueprint and a Door Widget blueprint, at first I tried making this in a different blueprint but I couldn't figure out which object to use for Cast to Door node so I switched to the way I did it and it worked flawlessly.

Pressure Plate | UE5
I wanted to create a pressure plate system so that the player has to activate a multitude of them in order to open the exit of the maze, I done this by creating a pressure plate blueprint and adding an overlap on a flat cube which would change the amount of plates needed to be activated before opening the door. In order for me to do any of this I had to create 2 variables in the third person gamemode (RPP & TPP) which stand for Remaining Pressure Plates and Total Pressure Plates. I also made a red material to give the pressure plates some colour. One of the issues I had with doing this system is that the overlap would continue to keep adding score on the same pressure plate pressed which can bypass the need of going to the other plates, the way I fixed this was by adding a "Do Once" node infront of it so you can only press down the plate 1 time.

What are puzzles?
A puzzle is a game, problem, or toy that tests a person's ingenuity or knowledge. In a puzzle, the solver is expected to put pieces together in a logical way, in order to arrive at the correct or fun solution of the puzzle. Jigsaw Puzzle:
Tumblr media
A jigsaw puzzle is a tiling puzzle that requires the assembly of often irregularly shaped interlocking and mosaicked pieces, each of which typically has a portion of a picture. When assembled, the puzzle pieces produce a complete picture Rubik's Cube:

On the original classic Rubik's Cube, each of the six faces was covered by nine stickers, each of one of six solid colours: white, red, blue, orange, green, and yellow which would go in a pattern to scramble everything around for the player to solve. Some later versions of the cube have been updated to use coloured plastic panels instead, which prevents peeling and fading.
Escape Rooms:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An escape room, also known as an escape game, puzzle room, exit game, or riddle room is a game in which a team of players discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks in one or more rooms in order to accomplish a specific goal in a limited amount of time. The goal is often to escape from the site of the game.

Camera | UE5
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I put the camera high enough so players have visibility but not too high so they can see over the walls. I also disabled the ability of moving the camera in any way so they are locked in this angle.

Grand Theft Auto Mission Pack #1: London 1969 is an expansion pack for the 1997 action-adventure game Grand Theft Auto, developed by Rockstar Canada and published by Rockstar Games. Something these games all have in common is the top down camera angle, this is what I want to add to my own game because I think it can go well with my idea.
