Dyu have any headcanons of Andre and Cal in their middle school years, and the sprout of their connection? If that makes sense :3

- They didn’t become best friends instantly. It was slow. Andre noticed Calvin first, he was a loud kid, dumb laugh, always leaning back in his chair like he wanted to fall on purpose, zoning out during class. Andre thought he was annoying, but kind of magnetic like static electricity before a biiiiggg storm

- Cal was the one who reached out. He sat next to Andre in 7th grade(perchance that grade but idk yet) science class and kept poking him with the end of his pencil, asking him and talking hoping Andre would reply, until Andre cracked and answered, half-assed and awkward

- Cal gave him a dumb nickname. Something like "Dre". Andre hated it. Cal said it anyway, he still said it years later

- Their first “hangout” wasn’t even a hangoutx it was detention. Cal got them both in trouble for laughing during a lockdown drill and making Andre laugh too. They sat next to each other and drew in Andre’s notebook without asking. Andre didn’t stop him.

- Andre had this weird obsession with maps(hehe I snuck a headcanon in, he's got the tism) and would sketch little blueprints of cities or tunnels during class. Cal leaned over once and went, “you planning to bomb us?” as a joke. Andre didn’t answer. Cal shut up for like five seconds after that then asked if he could help draw

- They were always getting in trouble for saying weird, morbid shit. like asking people if dead bodies float face-up or face-down, or how long it takes for a squirrel to fully rot. cal would say stuff like "what if we all just dropped dead right now lol" and andre would laugh.

- Their notebooks were full of gore. andre's had cross-sectioned organs and detailed violence. cal's were messier with little stickmen getting stabbed or falling off cliffs with captions like "oops." sometimes they'd draw together. they'd never admit it, but they were proud of the pages they made together. once, a teacher found a page of two classmates tied up and bleeding. they both said it was "just a joke."

- Cal would always steal extra fruit cups from lunch and slip them onto Andre’s tray without saying anything. When Andre finally asked why, Cal just shrugged and told him about how Andre look vitamin-deficient and made fun of him, Andre laughed along after a shove and a "shut up!!"

- One day Cal randomly dumped a broken lighter in Andre’s locker with a note that said something about how Cal thought that Andre would want it. Andre kept it, still has it.

- Andre had never really laughed around people before, but Cal one said something stupid in gym class and tripped over his own shoelace, and Andre let out this choked, wheezy noise, and Cal loved the attention he got from it

- Cal was always half-suspended, always showing up late, always talking over teachers. Andre liked that he didn’t care, but hated that he didn’t have to care. But he still sat beside him every day like they were tethered

- They didn't talk about their shared loneliness and the teasing they got from others, but they both felt it. Cal made the silence easier, Andre made it heavier. Somehow that worked out for them.

- The day it all changed, the moment that did it, the moment that really cemented them, wasn't a big one. just a hallway interaction. some dickhead jock shouldered andre into the lockers and called him "creep." and didn't stop, he just kept walking. andre didn't yell or fight back, just lifted his hand like a gun, pressed his fingers together, and "shot" him in the head, eyes locked onto the back of his head. cal saw it. and for a second, he just stared. then he lifted his own hand, long bony fingers cocked into a fake pistol, and aimed too. he mouthed boom. and smiled. they both laughed. silent, choked-up laughter like something cracking open between them, like a secret only they understood. after that, they were just always together. nobody else found it funny, but they did, and that was enough to fuel them as they grew

- it wasn’t like fireworks when they met, it wasn’t fate, it was just two kids who didn’t fit anywhere else, finding the exact shape of their rot in each other. they didn’t know what they were becoming yet, but they were already basically there
