FINAL POST!! SEMESTER END!
With the final live animation edit done, I had time to finish other work off! Zhitong with her background work was very helpful and added to that consistency, and Audre was super helpful with her guidelines. Thanks to them we could finish fast!
The sound animation is now complete! I am very happy with my use of colour change here as well as the straight ahead animation of the red underwater scene. Sounds were excellently edited with my assistant Goose. He managed to perfectly encapsulate what I wanted and where thanks to my direction. I needed a lot of ambience to really illustrate the journey here, as well as elevate the sharp shifts in direction as opposed to relying solely on key sounds where needed. Filling the soundscape with ambience builds a rich layering that makes a listener feel immersed, and I found that fun. I'm excited to see feedback I get on the final grading! I believe my full vision is seen here with the colour choices and editing done with after effects to fix up lighting and add highlights to bake my animated png sequences into the backgrounds I made with the help of the concept art project!

Live Animation FINALISING
So my scene has been completed entirely! This means I can focus on helping with sound editing and my own sound project animation, those scenes are being finalised this week and will be compiled in premiere by the end of the semester!! The only issue now is getting work done, as pain is getting stronger due to a severe ear infection I got just this week.
I believe I have matched the style of this scene well at least, so my team can rest assured my ear infection did not halter the process too much. With this, Madeleine and Leah can finish the production and send it off as a final product. I believe we as a team have been successful in being communicative, collaborative and very pro active when it comes to how much work we had to do and when we needed it done by. This is in part thanks to Madeleine's excel sheet, as well as the team's enthusiasm for the project due to its cute story and artstyle. I had a lot of fun and hope another opportunity like this arrives sometime. As for now, I am aiming to finish my sound animation before the end of this semester.

LIVE PROJECT FINALISING
So I am near finished with my own scene and I was going to compile an animatic for the team to work towards with some sounds I had made a folder of along the weeks; sound editing and production was going to be my job after all. However Madeleine and Leah suggested they do it instead as they had done their work and had nothing left to do, so I allowed them to take it upon themselves as well as providing my sound collection. This upsets me a little bit but since I'm working on other projects as well as feeling a little sick I believe it's the best option. Otherwise, compared to other groups, we seem to be on track to finish very soon as everyone is near complete with their scenes. Audre, Zhitong and Lou have been very helpful in reference for how these characters should move and look when animated.
All that's left for me to animate is small details and the background to be rendered through after effects in order to create a more consistent motion with the characters! I am very excited to finish up and see the final product!

Live Animation PRODUCTION CONT.
This week I worked on some colouring and I am looking to begin getting some character animation done and cleaned before the next two weeks, a lot of time is being devoted currently to the 3d project as well as the sound project but they are both nearing completion so hopefully I can manage to finish them before they landslide!!
Here is the character and background works in progress that I have managed to get down, Leah replied saying it looks good and everyone else's work looks great too! Lou's scene is after mine so I have to make sure colour selection is consistent enough for the scenes to connect and function right. I will be colouring the characters and hopefully by next week I can begin to cleanup.

Live Project PRODUCTION WEEK
A lot of work has been done amongst the team, mostly by Audre, Madeleine, Zhitong and Leah!! They managed to do a lot of the work surrounding cleaning up from 9trees feedback as well as a lot of the art direction surrounding it. Leah provided us with some handy references for characters, artstyle and colour direction while Zhitong provided a lot of good sketches for the backgrounds sourced by Audre's thumbnails and storyboards. Madeleiene completed the excel sheet and organised our work amongst ourselves properly, meaning we were very much set up to finish sooner than most!
I started working on my scene, which I was delegated to because of it's perspective changing and my confidence in that ability. A lot of it was very fun too, so I made a rough outline of the motion.
A few proportions and timings can be changed, but this fundamental is what I'm working on today. Cleanup with be complete by hopefully next week!

Live Project DEBRIEF
I went ahead and submitted that pitch! I'd like to say my style was consistent and consice as well as well proposed and disclosed in terms of my idea. I wanted to go with something simple yet sharp in order to be animated quickly, efficiently and have a distinct style that is eye catching to those scrolling on small screens like mobile devices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These visuals and my storyboard illustrate a journey to explain and tell the journey of tree growth as well as their effect on carbon balancing; making a clear distinction as to what 9trees aims and promises compared to other corporations and organisations.
However, my brief was not chosen and instead team leader (which was assigned today as I am now a proud member of group D), is assigned to Leah, who has a very vibrant and green style that lends itself well to time and clear storytelling, something I was critiqued for by 9trees in feedback for our pitches. I am excited to work alongside others, as this idea we are collaborating on shows promise and organisation. Our group leader has been very helpful in cooporating with everyone, as well as Madeleine who has been helping with distribution of roles. So far me, Zara, Zhitong and Audre have been focusing work on backgrounds, additional details and visionary roles in order to start production on animating scenes before next monday.

Live Project with 9trees!!
We had a video confrence debrief in the morning with the team at 9trees that are giving us this assignment! We have been tasked with creating a 30-40 second animated indent to promote their cause in carbon balancing. I believe this will be interesting, as along with a few prompts to help us make an idea, they have provided us with some of their important assets. This includes their colour scheme, their fonts and some of their key imagery/ members. I have an idea for one already, so during the session I created a quick moodboard.
Tumblr media
This is gonna help when I push my pitch for the project, as it is due to send over within the next 3 days. I have to create a style frame, a few storyboards and a synopsis.

Audio Project Finalising!!
I think I'll get a little close before finishing, but for now I have some scenes fully done and rendered through after effects! Other than like 5 which can be done relatively quick. I think the last step is to render those before the deadline and edit sound with the help of my friend who wants to be referred to as Goose! I have been sourcing sounds and letting them source a few so I can edit and produce it once my animation is fully rendered together. Here is a few screenshots for production reference.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After affects has been super helpful, especially the useage of tone curves and guassian blur in order to create some light bloom to emphasise some of the gloominess and illumination of the underwater red section to mimick the sickliness of it all. I'm more than excited to finish this off once we know how the next project will be set up.

Audio Project Production cont.!
It's going pretty well! I have some scenes fully lined and coloured ready for post production, as well as some backgrounds for those scenes done and ready too so hopefully I can get at least most of this project done before we start on the next project...
By next week I plan to have all scenes animated so I can begin post production in after effects using some lighting and shading techniques so the animation isnt too flat, considering I don't have enough time to make a shadow pass over it.
Tumblr media
This scene is very fun to animate, as it is different than the others considering there is so much secondary animation present; I wanted the transformation from their normal human form to the engulfed form to be very apparent.
Tumblr media
Hopefully the text inthe background that I intend on animating won't be too distracting!

Audio project Production!
I have begun proper work on the animatic now! A lot of it is very roughly sketched so i put it together in a short and untimed render in premiere in order to showcase to myself how it should play out before starting to animate scenes properly.
Some things are a little too fast and skippy, but roughly this is how I want it to look, with a lot of natural environmental sounds used to create a soundscape that sort of mimicks a herd or crowd of people speaking, especially during the underwater section. I do realise quite a few backgrounds are needed, but it shouldn't take too long to render most of them considering I had to create quite a few for my concept art project!
Tumblr media
This will greatly influence post production for this project as a lot of the colours and lighting will be informed from these backgrounds.

Concept Art Materialised!!
So as a part of the project for concept art we are required to push the concept art into a sort of long pan, so I made a long winding piece that reflects both aspects of the concept of Mmanwu, with the bright spring season being the end goal of our protagonist and the dim harsh and gloomy winter green being the starting point; the pan from right to left was just to more shockingly convey this scene through concepts and thus I ended up with this:
I employed the use of 3 point perspective here to sort of warp the ocean around and increase the pov from the bottom from the middle and have it sort of scale around the viewer. I wanted first and foremost for the colour difference and rendering to be clearly different, as well as the bright bloom of the sun to be intense and nearly overwhelming on the left whilst the gloomy yellow haze of the moon illuminating it on the right side is sort of sickly. I feel like I could have made the 3 point perspective a little more intensive and perhaps draw the view back a little further to really make this seem more jarring but I am content with this product as of now since it gives me a cleaner view of what I want to achieve with the colour in my Audio Project.

Concept Art process
This week and the next week we are focusing on concept art, which will allow me to paint a better mental idea as to what exactly i need to illustrate in order to convey what i want my audio animation to look like. We started off with simple mood boarding and mind maps, with some colour reference and study as a lecture beforehand. I landed on an aesthetic I wanted to have a shot at and sketched it in pencil this lesson, but at home I went and made the moodboard proper.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My idea revolves around sort of viscous liquid-like motion in the water with stiff dark and tall trees on land, sort of like a mirror of each other in itself and representative of the character in the story

Audio Project cont.
This week I am focused on creating concepts for the character using the research I put into the manwa mask. It is used in the traditional masquerade of the Igbo people, Mmanwu. It is intended to invoke ancestral spirits with the use of colourful costumes. It is usually performed to usher in a new season or month and is very much a community based activity that is exclusively played by males. There are two forms of it too, one performed in public at daylight and the invisible performance that is performed at night with sound and voice used to invoke it. This dichotomy and the ritualistic coming of a new season are what inspired me the most; the difference between the public performances and the night time bring this sort of incitement of change or action that I believe I could incorporate into a story about change itself. I was given the world prompt "grateful" to go along with this too.

Audio animation project!
Our first lesson back from christmas, it's an exciting prospect. We went to the local museum to research any item we sketch in order to properly integrate it and its potential meanings into an animation that focuses around atmosphere and sound... Obviously we went into this blind and with no real intentions behind the project in order to keep it entirely focused on the researched material we found in the museum.
Tumblr media
These are the main four images that inspired me, alongside just a few others.
Tumblr media
I tried to experiment with colour application and hatching, as well as using heavier graphite (12B) pencil to make an additive look to the thick hair of the bottom left mask. I believe we are to choose just one or two of these objects but i believe the Manwa mask is the most interesting to me, as it represents the changing of seasons... But the shabti are also interesting as they represent lost souls and guides. I believe we have to come up with a concept for this animation by next week to begin character designs and moodboards.
