Yama looked up at the vampire, a small smirk growing at the the side of his mouth. It was about damn time he had a real opponent. Yama knew enough about vampires to sense that Tantum wasn’t just a commun turned, and they were beginning to act like it too and with an admission of guilt, he could reallyy dole out some old fashioned justice.
He stood up and followed the vampire through the fire escape pulling out a pack of cigarettes and stuck on in his mouth. “Cigarette?” He offered, lighting his own. “ So, kid, I know about you. Only fair if you know what you’re up against.”
He took a couple steps forwards, becoming more bestial as he strode until he came to a stop in half wolf, his features still reasonably human looking through he stooped slightly on his more canine legs and sharp claws emerged from his fingers.
Slayer [Closed RP]
“Y-.” Tantum answered, stopping short as Yama cut him off. Their gaze turning sour as the wolf continued to talk. Oh it was about that, of course it was. It had been what a month and the past was already catching up with them even here. Well they weren’t about to let it preclude them from a life here too.
“Get fucked Detective Yama.” Tantum said, raising a hand to their eyes and unflinchingly pulling off their brown contact lenses, revealing their (un)natural violet eyes,  their own silent way for preparing for a fight. “I don’t know who you are or what you are or what exactly your point is but I can tell the jist of it.”
They stood up, pulling their white coat off their shoulders and hanging it on a hook. “I killed them. All of them.” They an adjacent black trenchcoat off the hook pulling it over them and turning to face Yama. “This is usually the part where we fight but this is a hospital after all. Care to walk with me?” They slid past Yama. Out the door and into the hall and out the fire escape.

“Yeah well, I wouldn’t let her if she tried.” Yama shrugged. “I mean, I’d try at least. It’s hardly like I could do anything to stop her, she’s one of the most stubborn people I’ve ever met and I’d have a  better chance fighting mount fuji than her.”
“Who knows how it happened. Frankly I don’t even care anymore. I figure if they really want to throw me away that badly who am I to say they can’t. Four hundred years I protected that place.” Yama sighed, staring into his tea. “I was the best damn thing that ever happened to that backwater shithole and if they think they dont need me I’m...” He downed the rest of his tea. “I’m moving on. Rei and I are gonna build a shrine here instead. It’s not like I wasn’t already a guardian of this place in all but name anyway.”
MI Closed
“I can’t say that I can understand how you feel,” Kenzo said slowly. “But I can empathize. I tried praying every day for so long but… Nothing. Not a word from the other side, not even a trace. They won’t listen to me anymore. I think you’re about the only one from back home who’s still on my side. Hell, Rei would disembowel me if she had the chance.”
He sighed to himself. And then he chuckled quietly. “Maybe I should have brought drinks a bit stronger than tea. More importantly though, I can’t imagine why my family would let your shrine be taken down like that. I’m sure it’s not much consolation, but if I’m ever let back in… Well, I’ll make sure that it gets rebuilt. I’ll see to it personally, build it back up stone by stone myself if I have to. It just isn’t right.”

That wasn’t the reaction Yama had been expecting. He had been thinking more along the lines of, terror or surprise or, any reaction. Tantum seemed to just be, bored or stupid or both. Or this was an act, Yama had seen the charges laid on the vampire who knows what kind of mind games he might try to pull.
He took a seat, loudly scraping the plastic across the break room floor. It wasnt a perfect interrogation room, the walls were a pristine white save for the mandatory health and saftey signs and a couple of staff notices the chairs would be unlikely to do much damage if used as a weapon, but Yama  was nothing if not flexible.
“You are Tantum Samantha Oma, correct?” He didn’t wait for a response. “You used to go by the name of Tantum of the House Fampyr correct?” Again he continued. “A Vampric cult known for their traditionalist values and pivotal role in the British Blood Council, or BBC for short. Wiped out 2 years ago in a mass homocide.” he licked his lips. “Well all except one. Tell me, Tantum how did you get away from the slayer?” He smirked, he was a wolf on the hunt and his prey was corned.
Slayer [Closed RP]
Tantum looked on in a stunned silence at the spectacle. Taking a moment to register everything. A man had just burst into the break room. A 6 foot white haired beast of a man. A man strong enough to do significant damge to a wall by opening a door. A man claiming to be a cop. “Um.” Tantum said, looking up at the snarling detective, the events still not quite registering. “Alright.”

“Well, maybe I’m just having a mid-immortality crisis.” Yama sighed, moving over to one of his unpacked boxes and rummaging around it. “They are stupid and in my experience a stupid human is one who will find their own death in time. I worry more about the occasional smart one.” He stood up, pulling out a bottle of sake. “Though admittedly, no examples spring to mind.”
“Well, I guess that saves me a job.“He pulled two plain clay saucers out of a cupboard setting them on the table and filling them with the rice wine. “Two shrines and a doghouse, looks like we’re going have a lot of construction on our hands. If you need a hand with the paperwork I’ll take half if you like.”
He sat down again, raising his saucer in the air. “A toast, to growing old.”
welcome back - closed
“Thumbs are lame, Ya-chan. Use your teeth like the animal you are.”
She laid on the floor still, lazily watching Yama refill cups. “We are old, guard dog-chan. Did you suddenly forget? Just divide your age by ten, huh?” She flipped over, resting her chin in her palms. “Humans are idiots. Especially the war-mongering ones. Thinkin’ they know anythin’ about real fighting. All idiots who need their lives taken.”
Rei cackled. “Ya-chan, if they step out of line, I eat them! You don’t have to do anything but soak up attention. Isn’t that nice? You’ll even get two shrines, since we can’t bring humans to the deep parts of the forest. You can choose both spots, of course. I gotta organize all this now…” She hummed in contemplation, sitting up properly to reach her cup. Yama always did have a talent for tea.
“I’ll have some if you do, Ya-chan. Won’t do much anyway.”

Slayer [Closed RP]
Yama had been back for a while now. He'd slowly but surely made it through the files on every citizen, filling the out properly and attaching any background he could find on them. Rei and Kenzo hadn't been lying when they said the latest crop seemed to actually seem like they might not cause too much trouble. That is aside from the demon who they were quick to warn about, not that it mattered, that particular hellspawn was out his jurisdiction, residing as he was somewhere in the metropolitan vicinity of 'none of yama's damn business that's for sure'. But Yama wasn't so quick as to believe there were simply no malevolent supers on the island anymore and, though it took a bit of digging he finally found dirt on one of the new residents and oh what a lot of dirt it was too. He'd immediately gone off to find them. Luckily, they couldn't have been easier to find.
He strode into the hospital quickly, moving familiarly through the silent empty corridors, reaching the staff room with ease and pushing the door open, slamming it against the wall with the force. He pulled a weathered badge out of his breast pocket. "Detective Yama, Mamono defense force. I'd like to ask you a few questions."

Yama laughed. “Right, the things those two have under control. I’ve seen with how those two deal with stuff.” He shrugged. “Ah hardly my issue, I learned it’s better to not stick your nose where it is obviously not welcome, if Rei really needed me I’d probably know.”
Any hint of a smile Yama might have had quickly faded. “I had to go quickly. I felt something, like I’d never felt before. Like i can sense how the people of my home are feeling, it’s just an innate thing. Then it just. Stopped.” He stared at the ground. “It was, this complete silence, it was, maddening, and frankly, scary. To just have my last tie to my past severed. So I went back, to try and see if I could tell what was wrong.” He ran a hand through his hair. “Went I got to my shrine, i found. A building site. The place had been in severe disrepair for years but it was just, gone.”
MI Closed
For a moment, Kenzo thought about mentioning Nicolette. But, then he thought better of that idea. He didn’t see a reason to get Yama wrapped up in that. The situation was practically resolved by now anyways. “Nothing that Ama and Rei don’t have under control.”
“I do appreciate the tea. If you don’t mind me asking, what was your reason for going back to Japan?” To tell the truth, Kenzo really had no idea why Yama had been gone. It seemed like he just up and disappeared out of nowhere.

Yama smiled. “I forget this isn’t a usual form for you, must be inconvieniant. I’ve spent about as much of my life in this form as a wolf so, it’s second nature. Plus it has its benefits, thumbs are very useful for instance, especially once you’ve been around humans so long the thought of currying things in your mouth becomes unthinkable.”
He returned to the table with the teapot, filling two cups once more without asking if the other needed a third cup. “I don’t need an old folks home now surely? I’m practically coming out of retirement at this point not going into it. I’m in the prime of my life. I’ve never been more alive!” Yama laughed. “Yet here I am gossiping and talking over tea. I’m just like those old buggers who used to think they could advise me on war. There’s a lot of good to be said about humans but they do have a habit of thinking when they get to sixty it makes them wise. Infuriating trait, if they had a backbone they’d have never made it past 40 i say! I never seemed to.”
“A cult on the island, thats exactly what desk job Yama needs.” Yama sighed, rubbing his temples. “I mean what the hell go for it, but if your cultists step out of line, I will kill them. Just  a warning. I am to be the guardian of this place after all. God I’m gonna need something stronger than tea. I probably have a bottle of something around here, fancy joining me?”
welcome back - closed
“If I start fighting as a human I’ll shift anyway, I can’t control it by then. Instincts, guard dog-chan. Cat first, demon second, human never.” She shrugged. “It’s ridiculous. When I could first hold this form right, I was a normal height! I had to blend in! Now all these six foot monsters are walking around and I’m way less intimidating!” She snickered at his name suggestions. “Pebble-chan. Perfect.”
“You’re still gettin’ a doghouse. I think it’ll be funny and confuse everyone. We can dig out the bottom and make a cool fort!” Rei laughed, rolling onto her back. “Old Japanese folks’ home. The fort under the random doghouse in the park.” Her tail twitched as she thought about it, trying to make plans in her head. Should be easy enough, and she could get Ama to put up a veil during construction. She’d just have to convince some extra workers.
“Fuck Hiro-chan, but whatever. We can go out and scout locations this week. I have hunting runs most nights, but if you don’t mind some daylight, we can do that.” An idea struck Rei’s mind and she grinned toothily at Yama. “Say, Ya-chan, after it’s built, we could use it as a basis for the revival of my cult. You’ll get worshippers that way, and I’ll get to eat people. A win-win for both of us, don’t you think?”

“Well if these sparring matches are to continue, it might be a good idea if you learn to pull your punches slightly.” Yama hissed in pain as the cold ointment covered his cuts. “Ah, who am I kidding, I always knew you’d be the death of me. Thanks for doing this though.”
♟: Patching up a wound
“…Sorry, Ya-chan.” Rei wasn’t one for apologizing, but she really meant it when she said it was a friendly tussle. She didn’t mean to slash up Yama’s back so badly. She just lost a little control. Now they were in the wolf’s bathroom, and Rei was fixing up the cuts with whatever gauze and ointments were around.

“You’re telling me! 400 years ago I towered over all of them and now i see Aspen walk by and its just, it’s really strange not being the tallest humanoid in any situation by a good half foot. What would they have called me had they all been that big back then? Ryo the hillock? Ryo the anthill? Ryo the pebble? Not very intimidating.” Yama laughs. “Honestly I always preferred the killing in human form, more of a challenge for it’s limitations. Maybe that’s why I was hailed a hero for my kill count and you condemned a monster for yours?”
Yama smiled. “Honestly I, I have thought about it. It just always seemed like having two shrines dedicated to me was a great way to get my powers stripped for hubris and then you would have to make me a doghouse.” He sighed, standing up to refill the teapot. “I never left gladly in all my time here, I realised this was my home a good half century ago. What the hell lets do it. It’ll be nice to settle again.”
He ran a hand through his hair. “Secluded is better anyway. I’ll go looking soon. First I need to figure out the things I need for it. I bet Kenzo-san knows. I never really paid attention. I had people to run the place for me, I was busy being the most important in world.” He smiled nostalgically. “We could throw festivals by it too Rei-Chan. It wouldn't be exactly the same, but It’s better than nothing right?”
welcome back - closed
“You know it isn’t the same. Human form doesn’t feel right, it hurts my bones. All cramped and, like, new ones. I don’t have a collarbone in my natural form, Ya-chan, what am I supposed to do with it? It just makes my shoulders inflexible. It’s stupid and unnecessary and proves human evolution is laaaaame.” She rolled her eyes and drank some of her tea. “Also, weren’t they all, like, shorter? I swear new giants are born every generation. Why do they evolve taller?”
“They can’t just dumb down my body counts! This is the worst offense I’ve ever had taken against me! How could they, guard dog-chan!? My one claim to glory!” Rei set down her tea to yell better, flopping down to the floor. At the wolf’s proposition, she looked up and shrugged. “I already told you that you could stay. If you need a shrine, then do it. There’s some decent locations not too far out… And better ones really far out. Not that I’m tryin’ to push you out, I’m just sayin’. I’ll build you a real pretty doghouse in the park, too. Or someone else will, with my supervision. Maybe Nao will do it, with some convincing.” The demon grinned lecherously. “Yeah, they would probably do it if I talk to five first.”

Yama laughed. “Well okay then, I suppose if it’s for the well being of my favourite cat. How about the hunts? I thought those were a good way of dealing with that, always were for me. Have you thought about trying to release your pent up aggression in human form? people might be more willing to spar with you in judo or kendo. Pretty sure I have some bamboo swords around somewhere.”
“Their fact checking was pitiful Rei-Chan. I almost got thrown out for correcting the kill counts because it was ‘not suitable for children’. What ridiculousness is that? If you don’t want your child to learn about murder don’t take them on a tour about a literal demon.” He took a drink of his tea. “Anyway I thought you wanted me to stop taking vacations?” Yama smiled, though there was a hint of sadness to his gaze. “Besides I can’t rebuild my shrine now, not there anyway. Our contract was broken, I don’t owe them shit anymore.” An idea came to him. “But I could,” He hesitated. “Build one here. It’s not like I don’t already do my duties here anyway, just make it official. Then you’d never get rid of me.”
welcome back - closed
“I’ll be gentle! C’mon, guard dog-chan, there’s no one strong or willing enough left…” Rei whined, flopping back down and tangling her hands in her hair. “I swear to god, this body is just going to implode if I don’t let out some energy soon. It’s been like, forever since I got to eat someone! Like the cult! That long ago! I dunno how I’m even alive anymore!” She sighed, turning onto her stomach, tail twitching with agitation. “Besides that, like, immortality, I guess.”
“Let’s go torch the place, Ya-chan! It’ll be fun! We can rebuild your shrine after.” Rei grinned, resting her head on crossed arms.”It’ll be a fun vacation! I’ll call the ship I like right away. Been a long while since Tomiko and I had a chat…” The demon reached out to grab the phone, flipping through the pictures. “Ha! What kind of mockery is this, Ya-chan? Did they even get any of the facts straight?”

Yama nodded, setting his kettle to boil and pulling his tea set out of a bare cupboard. “Brought some good tea back from Japan, practically the highlight of my trip.” They sighed, neatly arranging the set on a tray and walking over to Kenzo.
“Well, Rei warned me about Daniel quite extensively so friendship will be an uphill battle to say the least.” Yama smirked slightly. “Any other potentially volatile supers? Undeads, Warlocks, that sort of thing?”

“I certainly wouldn’t say no to some good green tea. There has been far too much Lipton in my apartment as of late.” He smiled and entered, kicking off his shoes and setting down the platter on the nearest surface he could find, which luckily enough happened to be a table. The apartment was sparse, save for the various boxes scattered around. Yama really hadn’t been exaggerating when he said that the kettle was one of the only things he had unpacked.
“The island really hasn’t changed very much, honestly,” Kenzo said as he looked curiously around the apartment. Decor aside, the layout really wasn’t drastically different from his own abode. “It’s really just the new inhabitants. They seem nice enough, for the most part. But they certainly can be odd. You’ll like them. Maybe not Daniel, but you’ll like the rest.”

“I said I wanted to beat the shit out someone, not have it beaten out of me Neko-Chan.” Yama gives a gruff laugh. “But you know if it comes to war, you have my blade. I’ve taken down armies too and I even did it in the body of a human! They didn’t give me the name Ryo the “mountain” for nothing you know.”
“As for home?” Yama sighed. “Aside from them tearing down my shrine for the expansion of some manor house? The same as it was last time I was there. Though I got to go a couple places I haven’t been in a long while.” He pulled his phone out of his pocket, “I went to your home actually, took pictures.” He hands  the phone over. “They’ve turned it into some kind of tourist trap, with tours about local myths. At least they seem to care about one of our legends I guess.”

“Sure is. Like, sure, maybe the last one was just givin’ a zombie the ability to shit again, but that’s like a gateway drug. Soon enough, Ya-chan, he’ll be leadin’ the stupidest in some quest to overtake me.” Rei snorted, taking another sip of her tea. “I mean, not like he’d succeed! I’ve taken down bigger armies than whatever he could scrap together.” She grinned, eyes flashing. “That’s what I love to hear, guard dog-chan! We gotta take him down. Maybe tussle a bit ourselves before that.”
Rei smiled and settled back a bit, blinking owlishly at Yama. “Anyway, Ya-chan, how was your vacation? How is the homeland?”

“You don’t need to lecture me on such things Kenzo, I would have shifted if i sensed someone else at the door.” Yama rolled his eyes, but let himself turn more humanoid anyway. “By all means come in, especially if you have food. I haven’t had a good meal in a while. Fell free to make yourself comfortable, I’ll go get presentable.” He strode away from the door popping into a side room for a moment and returning a couple seconds later in full human form dressed in a plain polo shirt.
“Do you need any help with the food or should I put some tea on, the kettle is practically the only thing I’ve unpacked.” Yama smiles. “Ah but where are my manners? How have you been? I want to hear about the island from someone other than Rei-Chan, you know how she loves to skip over important details at times.”
MI Closed
“Good morning to you as well. Though the day is fast approaching noon. I was hoping to greet you with a hom-cooked meal. It’s been far too long since we’ve spoken.” Yama was one of the only inhabitants of the island who had as much love for Japan as Kenzo did. He was also one of the few denizens that Kenzo had entrusted with his secrets, which only proved in what high regards Kenzo held the detective.
“May I come inside?” he said with a smile. “You may want to be careful in your form. There are a great deal of humans on this island still.” Kenzo added all that as a quick afterthought. If someone were to find out all the island’s secrets, it could create a very messy circumstance for those involved.

Yama still hadn’t adjusted to the time difference from his most recent trip and found himself spending most mornings just sleeping in, no visitors welcome although the cat had dropped by with her general disdain for common courtesy.
The knock on the door woke him up out of his gentle midday snooze, and as much as he didn’t want to answer it he figured he did have a responsibility to the island to do so. He stretched out and padded over to the door quietly, sniffing for a scent of who was outdoors. The scent of kenzo was, distinctive as was the apparent feast he had brought with him. Yama opened the latch and pulled open the door not even bothering to change out of wolf form. “Good morning Hiroshi-Kun. What can I do for you?”
MI Closed
The moment that Kenzo had heard about Yama returning, he set about work in the kitchen. He was excited to see his old friend again and the best gift one could receive was food. After all, what could show care more than a homecooked meal?
The next day, he was outside of Yama’s door with a whole platter of seafood. It hadn’t been easy to gather all of it, but there was an assortment of salmon, tuna and perch. Much of it was sushi, but there was also a fair amount of onigiri and mochi to finish it all off. He hadn’t alerted Yama about the visit or lunch, so it was best to prepare food that could be eaten later. And so, with a broad smile and his hands full, he knocked on the detective’s door as best he could.

Yama blinked. “He’s making demonic deals with Island residents and he’s doing it in the open and with people around and those people are avising against it and yet it’s still getting done?” He  growled is voice getting more and more like a snarl as he spoke. “And this, this, fucker is going around with diplomatic fucking immunity courtesy of Kokinos?” He moved one hand to his temple massaging it. “Well this is just wonderful, maybe we should throw him a party too, award him a medal, name a park after him.” Yama let out a long sigh. “Now i want to beat the shit out of someone too.”

Rei pouted, sitting back up properly. “Who wouldn’t pay to see me fight Dacina. It was so good last time! Don’t people like when cute girls smash each other to a pulp? Even if it’s one sided pulp?” She sighed and played with her hair some, ears tilting back. “I just have so much pent up energy! Don’t people understand, guard dog-chan? It ain’t helthy for me to keep myself like this! Huntin’ ain’t the same as truly fightin’ and winnin’.”
“Ohoho, I never said good intentions, Ya-chan. Just some twisted thinking. He’s got some weird little tricks up his sleeve… He’s a dealer type. Ain’t smart about it, neither.” Rei sipped from her newly refilled drink before continuing. “Keeps makin’ deals in public! Real convincin’ about it, too. People all around will be sayin’ ‘nooo, don’t make this deal with a demon, are you stupid? c’mon!’ and yet it’ll still get done! It is astounding and infuriatin’.”
