I've known him since we were both 17. From then till now, we have had approximately four first meetings, in four different parties.

2021. Friend of a friend. Someone's birthday. I had a partner at the time, he had an existential crisis and an awful haircut. We talked about music. Disagreed, more like. Didn't keep in touch.

Fast forward a year. Someone's birthday party. I'm embarrassingly in love with someone who is very much not in love with me. Future partner is keeping me company while I'm trying to find my self-respect somewhere inside a box of Camel Blues. We re-introduce ourselves. My clearly depressive mood and lack of appetite enchanted him. He asks about me after I leave and a friend tells him not to even try (see part where i am in love with someone else). Thanks, Nef. Didn't keep in touch. Fast forward 7 months. Someone's birthday party. I'm sick of parties. Still on and off in love with the same person, but not depressed about it. I've transcended depression, it is but a fool's concern. We sit next to each other and almost don't speak at all. Me, because I'm noticing how Not-awful his haircut is now, and him, because he has a partner. Drove me home and made a note of how close we live. And yet never met before. And then never met again until Fast forward 8 months. New Years Eve. I'm throwing a small party. Two-thirds of my guests come down with covid on the day of. So that leaves us with 3 people and however many personalities I can conjure up until midnight to fill the void. I'm beginning to think that 2024 is already not my year, and it hasn't even started yet. I'm beginning to think that no year is my year, but I've quit smoking and although I still refuse to say so, I'm kind-of-sort-of disabled and can't open a wine bottle on my own, so I suck it up. Friend calls. He asks if he can bring someone. Says the guy is stuck in his house with no New Years plans and is inconspicuously trying to clear his family's pantry of wine bottles.

It sounds familiar. Not the wine drinking but the pathetic part. I say yes. Bring the pathetic wine aunt over.

Not a wine aunt, but tipsy as one. Nice haircut. We still don't really know each other's names, and have to re-re-re-introduce ourselves but this time it will stick. Funny, it's the first time in three years we've both been single and mature enough not to beg after unavailable people as a decoy for our own emotional unavailability.

an idiom can be two different things here, but I'm assuming you mean the idiomatic phrases, like the English "over the moon"? in which case I only have two favorites :

"κάθομαι και τον παίζω"= "sitting and playing with it (dick)"/ masturbating -> meaning to do nothing/ being lazy

"πνίγεσαι σε μία κουταλιά νερό" = "drowning in a spoonfull of water" -> meaning to be anxious about something ridiculous or to create problems for yourself for no reason.
