Also, I appreciate the way that Brennan separated the elements of table top that focus on play style and what makes it fun for the individual player (soldier, seeker, schemer tables) and the elements that make it fun for the viewer (swords, magic, kissing, etc.)

( @mythals-whore, It's finally here!! I hope it was worth the wait, took me way too long T_T nsfw warning :)))))
Davrin pushed Revas hard, harder than he probably should, all things considered, but the stallion had spent the last month in a stable with all the hay he could possibly eat. It wouldn’t hurt for him to lose a little weight. Assan let out a tired cry and Davrin slowed his horse, glancing at the sky where his young companion was gliding down, less than gracefully.
“Sorry boy,” Davrin said, ruffling the griffon’s feathers. The sun was setting anyways, they could camp. He stared up at the mountains as the sun sank behind them, a part of him demanding he continue forward. Ruby’s letters sat in his breast pocket, almost burning against him.
His silence had been an accident. An oversight on his part. The siren pod had been bigger than he’d thought, and he had ended up sailing up and down the Kirkwall shore, trying to find their real nest. While his focus had been on the hunt and the sudden shift in territory, it had slipped his mind to reply to Ruby’s letter. And then he hadn’t thought to tell the barkeep where he was going. When he returned and the barkeep handed him the stack of letters, guilt had hit him stronger than any blow from a monster. She was the best thing in his life, how could he have forgotten his promise?
As he laid on the bedroll, Assan asleep on his chest, Davrin wondered about Ruby. He was fully prepared to beg for forgiveness if that’s what she asked.
His sleep was light, as it usually was on the road, and he got up as soon as the first glimpse of sunrise crossed the horizon. He tried to be gentle as he woke Assan, respecting the young creature’s exhaustion, but desperately wanting to be home.
Revas and Assan seemed to pick up on his anxiety and pushed forward with little resistance. The three climbed the winding path, ears and eyes alert for any sign of predator or prey.
It was three more days before the familiar gates of the mansion came into view. Davrin urged Revas faster, searching for any sign of his wife. Servants stood in surprise as he flew up the path, Assan close behind. They reached the front door and Davrin leapt off his horse, throwing open the massive doors.
“Ruby?” He called into the huge mansion. He heard quiet footsteps and looked up.
His wife stood atop the stairs, dressed in a simple blue gown and her hair a tangled mess. Even from here, he could read the exhaustion in her body language and eyes.
“Davrin?” She murmured softly, clutching the railing.
“I’m home darling,” he said, taking a few slow steps towards her.
“You’re home,” she repeated, still staring at him. Then, before he could react, she ran down the stairs, throwing herself into his arms as she began to cry. He hugged her tightly, kissing her hair.
“It’s alright. I’m here now,” he murmured, stroking her back gently. “I’m here.”
“What happened?” she asked, pulling back from him slightly to hold his gaze with her multicolor ones. Blue and green stared back at him swimming with hurt and confusion.
“I was dumb,” he confessed, cupping her face. “The siren pod was bigger than I thought and I forgot to let the tavern keep know where I was going. I read all your letters when I returned. I am so, so sorry, my love.” His thumb caressed her cheek as she searched his gaze.
“So there isn’t another woman?” She whispered.
Davrin’s heart hurt at the thought.
“Never, Vhenan, you are my one and only. I swear,” he replied, holding her gaze evenly.
“Good,” she said, kissing him hesitantly. Davrin almost groaned at the feeling of her soft lips against his again. His hands dropped to her waist and pulled her flush against him. She gasped softly and Davrin slipped his tongue past her teeth to taste her fully.
She tasted like berries and whatever lipgloss she’d used. She responded eagerly to his advances, and he slid his hands down to her thighs, picking her up with a grunt. She giggled as she wrapped her arms around his neck and Davrin began scattering kisses down her neck.
“I’m so sorry,” he murmured against her skin. “I never meant to hurt you.”
“It’s okay,” she whispered back, her voice almost breathless as he worked her neck, letting his teeth scrape her skin carefully. “I’m just glad you’re back.”
“Let me make it up to you,” he said softly, nibbling her ear. She pulled away with another giggle, tilting her head.
“And how do you suggest you do that?”
“Let me show you how much I missed you,” he explained, playing with the end of her hair.
“Oh?” Ruby’s face reddened adorably and he wanted to kiss her again.
He took a deep breath and leaned in, lips hovering near her ear.
“Let me take you to bed my love and worship you the way you deserve. I want to see every inch of my beautiful wife,” he murmured, his grip tightening on her soft thighs. Ruby inhaled sharply at his request and he felt her hips twitch against him.
“Just… be careful,” she whispered, looking away from him.
He turned her chin back towards him. “I won’t do anything you don’t want, I promise.” She nodded, her eyes a mixture of desire and affection. Davrin eyed the stairs and carried her up them with ease, delighting in her giggles as she buried her face in his neck. He carried her to their bedroom, gently setting her on the bed.
“Tell me if you want me to stop,” he murmured, kissing her gently before scattering kisses across her cheeks and jawline. She buried her hands in his hair, pressing him closer as he kissed down her neck again.
“Can I mark you?” He purred in her ear.
“Please?” She whined and the noise went straight to his cock.
“You ask me like that and I won’t be able to deny you anything,” he growled, carefully biting her on a sensitive spot on her shoulder, soothing the spot with his tongue. She moaned beautifully and he bit her again.
A month from his wife with little privacy meant that Davrin was already aching to bury himself in her. He also knew, however, if he did that, he would not last long. So he contented himself with grinding against the mattress as he scattered more love bites and kisses across her collarbone and back up her neck. He slipped his hands under her, deftly undoing the laces of her dress, trailing his fingers down her spine and grinning as she shivered under him. He trailed his fingers down her body as he slid her dress down.
She was gorgeous. All soft curves and smooth skin. He scattered kisses across her torso, pulling her dress all the way off with a soft groan. She looked down at him with a shy smile.
“You’re beautiful,” Davrin said softly, crawling back over top of her.
“You’re still dressed,” she pointed out with a small pout. Davrin kissed her, guiding her hands to the straps of his armor. Ruby fumbled with them as she deepened the kiss, her hands pawing at his armor until he helped her tug it off. Soon they were both breathless and naked. Ruby traced his scars, her touches feather light and Davrin shuddered, burying his face in her neck.
“You’re gorgeous,” he murmured in her ear, peppering kisses along her jaw and down between her breasts. Ruby inhaled softly and Davrin looked up.
Her pupils were huge and she stared at him hungrily as he carefully grabbed one soft breast in his hand, massaging the tissue and rubbing her nipple with his thumb. She bit her lip, holding back another groan.
“Let me hear you,” he encouraged gently before he leaned down to take her other breast in his mouth. He nipped her nipple gently, drawing another sharp gasp that melted into a moan as he soothed it with his tongue. He switched sides, coaxing more moans and sighs from her throat.
Eventually he continued down, kissing her soft stomach and tracing the curve of her hips with his hands. Every inch of her was smooth and smelled like wildflowers. She whined as he kissed her thighs and Davrin thought he might cum on the spot. He hesitated over her waist, pressing a kiss to her mound.
“May I?” He murmured, looking up at her.
Ruby nodded, burying her hands in his hair. Davrin smiled and spread her folds, admiring the slick shimmering before he pressed a kiss to her swollen clit.
“Oh!” She gasped, her grip tightening on his hair. Davrin groaned softly, slowly dragging his tongue up her slit, enjoying the salty, musky taste. He showered her clit with kisses and attention, driving her over the edge. His cock throbbed as she cried out, tugging harder on his hair.
“Shhhh,” he soothed, crawling next to her and pulling her closer. “You’re okay.”
He rubbed soothing circles on her back as she came down, kissing her hair. After a few minutes her hips rocked against him.
“You want more, beautiful?” He teased, caressing her hip.
She nodded, kissing him softly.
“Words, sweetheart.”
“Please?” she murmured against his lips.
“Please what?” He chuckled, tugging her leg over his waist, pressing his erection to her soft folds.
“Take me,” she whispered, burying her face in his neck. “Make me all yours.”
Davrin blinked in surprise. “You want that?”
She nodded again, cupping his face.
“I-I know I wasn’t very welcoming to this whole arrangement,” she said softly. “But I- I really care about you, and I want to make this work.”
“Me too,” he murmured, kissing her again.
“Then take me, please,” Ruby whispered into his mouth, using her leg to pull him closer.
Davrin groaned as his tip pressed against her soft heat. She pressed her face to his shoulder, rocking her hips against him.
He rolled her under him, pulling her hips closer. They groaned in unison and Davrin pressed his forehead to hers. He slipped fully into her, shuddering.
“Shit, Ruby,” he moaned. “You feel so good.”
She kissed him roughly, locking her legs around his waist.
“I’m not going to last long,” he purred in her ear, rocking his hips.
“Me either,” she whined, fluttering around him. Davrin hissed, picking up his pace and soon the room was filled with the sound of skin against skin and Ruby’s soft groans. Davrin reached a hand between their bodies, quickly finding her clit and driving her over the edge again. The combination of her nails in his back, her cunt around him, and her sweet whines in the air caused Davrin to cum, burying himself deep.
After a few moments he collapsed beside her, burying his face in her hair.
“That was amazing,” he whispered, pushing her hair away from her face. “You’re amazing.”
Ruby giggled sleepily, snuggling close. “So are you.”
They basked in the glow for a few minutes before Davrin got up, grabbing water and cloth to clean themselves. He was gentle between her legs, smiling slightly as her hips twitched. Then he offered her water as he dried himself off before climbing naked into bed with her.
He wanted to say more, whisper her praises and trail his hand over every inch again. But exhaustion tugged on his eyelids, and he settled for wrapping an arm around her waist, pulling her close to his chest with a content sigh as he fell asleep.

characters raised to be tools
Weapons. Trained, tested, forged in steel and fire. Failure is an inevitability that ends in death. Pain should not be felt--it should be recognized, familiar, and inconsequential
Martyrs. In the form of servants and princes, of leaders and underdogs. If blood is necessary, the martyr will lift their hands and offer it all
Shields. Like tempering a sword, but only to bear and not to lash out. Wounds are medals--not symbols of pride, but symbols of worth. A pretty shield is useless; scars mean a job well done
Experiments. Raised on the cold comfort of a lab table. Restraints are only necessary when they're not in their right mind. Is it honorable, to be twisted beyond recognition? Or is it just a necessary evil?
Monsters. Cruelty, caution, and regarding one as a creature beyond reasonable thought is tempering in its own right. But if you keep a leash at the right length, perhaps the massecre won't reach you. One can hope.
Idols. Pretty face, pretty name, pretty hands around their shoulders and throat. There to seduce, manipulate, force any feeling to come to the surface and twist it to their favor. Any genuinity stays locked behind the guilded cage that surrounds their pretty little heart
Trophies. Status and wealth and the traditions that keep someone at their heels, on their knees, to display and serve and decorate one's ballroom.
Sacrifices. Drenched in honorable clothes, prepared and adored and cleansed. The gift of hope at the cost of one's life. Is it taken with no fight? How can you escape the ropes you were born in?

Hear me out,
I know I said werewolf Davrin when talking about my siren AU
But what if…
Vampire Davrin?
Obviously both versions have the primal hunger and all the scenting/super speed/strength you want
But also there is something so entirely knee weakening about the seduction of a vampire.
That’s-
That’s all

( @mythals-whore a little shorter but I'll make up for it with the next one <3)
Ruby stared at the empty parchment on her desk, debating writing yet another note. Exhaustion tugged at her, beckoning for her to fall into her lavish and empty bed, but she knew it was a trick. Ever since Neve had found the saboteur amongst the palace staff, Ruby had been too nervous to truly sleep, jumping at every noise and waking at every whisper. He wouldn’t tell them anything, not who hired him, or why he’d attacked her, but Ruby got ready by herself now. Part of her knew she was being paranoid, but she had never been so aware of her own vulnerability before.
Lucanis had offered to help extract information but Ruby declined. She’d never had the stomach for the Dellamorte’s tactics but each day that passed with no results pushed her closer to accepting his offer. Illario was the only one to pretend to care about her, but Davrin’s warnings rang in her head and his mysterious disappearance after the chandelier accident only added to her unease. Even Lily was more focused on the attempt and how it had happened.
With a long sigh, Ruby stood and wrapped herself in her plush robe, stepping out onto the small balcony. Crickets chirped and a light breeze toyed with the ends of her hair as she leaned heavily on the balcony, watching the stars sparkle high above.
‘What if he’s dead?’ The thought was not uncommon recently, but Ruby never allowed herself to wonder. Tonight, however, she couldn’t stop her mind from wandering down the terrifying path. They’d only just begun to figure things out, would the Maker be so cruel? Maybe the letters were just getting lost. That had to be it. He promised he’d return. But he’d also promised it would be as quick as possible and it had been nearly a month since he left.
Her thoughts continued to spiral and she sighed, feeling the urge to cry crawl up her throat. She didn’t fight it, too tired and lonely to care. Tears tracked silently down her face as she begged whatever higher power was out there to send her husband back. It felt pathetic, but she was getting desperate. Even just to hear from him.
Eventually she retired to bed, staring at the empty other half. Her sleep was fitful, as always. Exhaustion eventually won over and when she fully woke, the sun was high in the sky. Ruby sat up, bleary eyed as her door flung open. Neve stood there, looking wild and grinning.
“I have news!” She said, approaching Ruby.
Ruby flopped back into bed with a groan and Neve chuckled.
“Our lovely prisoner has admitted he was working with someone,” she said.
“He didn’t happen to say who, did he?” Ruby asked hopefully. Neve shook her head.
“He did say none of the other servants were in on it, so you can at least relax about that! Unfortunately he seems more scared of whoever hired him than me, so we still have some work to do. But we’re finally making progress!”
Ruby nodded. “Could it have been one of the guests?”
“That’s what I’m thinking. It doesn’t really narrow anything down, but at least it wasn’t your staff, right?” Neve asked gently.
“Yeah, that… that’s good,” Ruby replied. “Thank you for all your work, Neve.”
The woman smiled, patting Ruby’s hand before she headed for the door. “Of course. I’ll figure this out soon. I promise.”
Ruby flashed the detective a tired smile. “I’m sure you will.”
There was a moment of silence between the two.
“Still no word from Davrin?” Neve asked softly. Ruby shook her head. “I’m sure he’s okay, he probably just got caught up in the hunt. He’ll be home soon.”
Ruby nodded. “I hope so.”
Neve gave her a quick hug before pulling away.
“It’s all going to be okay.” Neve assured her and left the room. Ruby intended to sleep the day away but a growl in her stomach insisted otherwise and she slowly got up, dressing simply before heading down to the kitchens.
She drifted through the day as she had done for many before, rotating between absently wandering the library, staring at the empty parchment on her desk, and walking through the gardens. Illario tried to catch her attention with a charming smile but she ignored him, feeling strangely ghostlike as she floated through the castle, the sting of missing her husband growing stronger.
That night, as Ruby started and threw away several letters she heard a scratching on her window. Turning, she saw a messenger raven hopping on the window sill. A letter was tied to its neck and Ruby hurried to throw open the window, hands trembling.
She untied the letter, nearly ripping it in her haste to open it. She nearly sobbed as she recognized her husband’s handwriting.
I’m coming back.

(@mythals-whore >:) )
Davrin,
You’ve been gone barely a day and I already miss you desperately. Is that too much? I’m not sure I care at this moment. My friend Lea recommended a woman named Neve Gallus to investigate the chandelier crash. She’ll be here tomorrow. Mother left this afternoon as well, much to my relief. But with the guests gone the place feels…
I hope you are well. Give Assan a hug for me.
Ruby
~~~~~
Ruby,
I’ve heard good things about Neve. You’ll be in good hands. Let me know what she discovers. Weather has been good. Assan sends a full body tackle back. Another day and I’ll reach the mountains.
Davrin
~~~~~
Davrin,
Neve arrived today. She had a million questions about the structure I couldn’t answer, but thankfully a few of the servants knew. She’s… intense, but kind. Watching her work is like watching a thunderstorm. She’s very good at her job. Also, credit to your skills, Neve believes the chandelier was sabotaged, which is a whole other investigation she’s agreed to do. Lucanis and Illario are still here. We need to discuss trade agreements with their estate. Still missing you.
Ruby
~~~~~
Ruby,
Keep an eye on Illario. I don’t trust him. Keep a guard nearby at all times. The Maker is blessing my journey and I’m making good time through the mountains. Hopefully things will continue to go well. I miss you too.
Davrin
~~~~~
Davrin,
I can’t stop thinking about the night of the dance- I miss you and your voice and your hands- Can you come home? Nothing-
How are you? I trust you’re close to Kirkwall now. Neve is close to finding who cut the chandelier, she found the knife they used. Lily, Lucanis’s wife, has been a nice change of pace. She’s…interesting. More academically interested than most noble women in our circles, but she’s fun to talk to.
Hope you’re well,
Ruby
~~~~~
Ruby,
I’m alright. Just arrived in Kirkwall this evening. Tomorrow the fun begins. Lily does sound interesting, but so are you, you two are a great match. Tell Neve she has my permission to punish the attempted assassin as she sees fit. No one should have had the opportunity to hurt you.
Stay safe,
Davrin
~~~~~
Davrin,
I know you’re skilled, but I am still worried. Just be careful. I still nee- If you have time, check out the Viscont’s Fault, it’s a very fun little tavern in Hightown. Probably a bit expensive but we have money to spare. I look forward to seeing you again.
Love,
Ruby
~~~~~
Davrin,
It’s been a few days and I haven’t seen your response yet. Maybe it got lost. I hope you’re okay. I love you. Stay safe. Did you check out the tavern?
Yours,
Ruby
~~~~~
Davrin,
Have you been receiving these? Maybe I need to get better messengers. Or an armed escort. Neve found the saboteur. He won’t tell us if he was working with anyone else. It’s a bit nerve wracking.
Wish you were here,
Ruby
~~~~~
Davrin,
I miss you.
(@mythals-whore we back again!)
Davrin woke up with Ruby still asleep on his chest. He studied her as the soft morning light crept through the curtain. She was beautiful all the time, in his opinion, but something about her sleeping peacefully in his arms made her look almost angelic. He ran his fingers through her hair gently, placing a soft kiss to her forehead and she stirred with a grumble.
“Morning,” he murmured, nuzzling her hair.
She mumbled something in return, pressing closer to him and he smiled. They laid like that, half awake, until someone knocked softly on the door.
“Lord and Lady Grey?” Davrin recognized the voice as one of the servants. “A message for you.”
Davrin got up immediately, answering the door in nothing but his underwear. The servant handed him the letter quickly and scampered away again, blushing. Davrin returned to bed, where Ruby was stretching slowly. The blankets slipped down her bare body and Davrin stared for a moment. She giggled and he leaned down to kiss her. It’s a gentle kiss, a kiss of promise, and Davrin pulled away to read the letter. He sat on the edge of the bed, feeling Ruby press her chest against his back, peering over his shoulder as she ran her hands down his arms.
He frowned slightly, reading the letter.
“What’s the matter?” Ruby murmured, kissing his cheek.
“They’re requesting my services in Kirkwall,” he said.
“Kirkwall? What do they need from you there?”
“Apparently there’s a nest of sirens nearby. They’ve been targeting merchant and supply ships,” Davrin explained, folding the letter carefully.
“Kirkwall is across the mountains, you’ll be gone for weeks won’t you?” Ruby asked softly.
“Unfortunately.” He turned to face her, cupping her cheek gently. “I’ll be back as fast as I can, I promise.”
She leaned into his touch and Davrin wanted nothing more than to burn the letter and stay in bed with her. But he had a job to do. They said nothing for a moment and Ruby pulled Davrin into a tight hug. After a few more beats, she pulled back.
“The sooner you leave, the sooner you come back, right?”
“Hopefully.” He turned to face her, bringing her in for another gentle kiss.
She kissed him back eagerly, pressing her body close to his again and he groaned softly.
“Are you sure you have to go?” she whispered against his lips.
“I do. But I will return as quickly as I can,” he said softly. “I promise.”
“And you’ll write?” she asked.
“Of course. Though I probably won’t have much to say,” he chuckled.
“I just need to know you’re alive,” she admitted and Davrin pulled her into a tight hug.
“I have something incredible to come home too, it’ll take more than a few sirens to take me out now,” he said into her hair.
They hugged for a few more minutes before he regretfully pulled away.
“I need to get ready.” He kissed her forehead and extracted himself from her grasp, moving slowly around the room. He gathered his gear and put on the familiar armor as Ruby watched quietly. The initial peacefulness had morphed into an unspoken sadness and Davrin tried to avoid eye contact as he packed, knowing it wouldn’t take much more for him to forget Kirkwall altogether.
It didn’t take long for him to pack, used to traveling light. By the time he was done, Ruby had dressed herself in a simple gown.
“I need to get Assan, but I’ll come say goodbye,” he promised her before he left the room.
Davrin’s head was full of buzzing, much to his frustration as he found Assan and Revas. Usually a hunt was a simple thing and falling into the familiar preparation pattern calmed his mind and cleared his thoughts. But now he had a wife he was leaving behind. Eventually a family, if they fulfilled her parents’ wishes. Did he want that?
He’d never thought much about having a family beyond Revas and Assan. He was a wanderer, a loner, his parents had had him and left him behind when he couldn’t keep up. He’d vowed he would never do the same, but what if he died? He couldn’t leave Ruby and a child behind.
As if sensing his distress, Assan nuzzled his leg with a purr. Davrin pet the griffon between his ears and sighed. He would figure it out later. He had to survive this next encounter first.
He walked Revas to the mansion’s entrance, where Ruby was waiting, arms crossed over her chest as she shivered in the chill of the morning. She looked so small in front of their home and Davrin almost wanted to take her with him. But he couldn’t, she’d be in more danger with him.
“Goodbye,” he said softly, pulling her into a hug.
“Goodbye,” she whispered. “Send me updates alright? At least when you get to Kirkwall.”
“Of course,” he murmured, burying his face in her hair and inhaling her soft wildflower scent.
“Be safe,” she said as they pulled away.
“I will,” he said, holding her hand for another second before he had to release it, mounting Revas. With a whistle for Assan to follow he took off down the long dirt path to the main road. He spared a glance back, seeing Ruby still outside, watching him leave.
