Finding parking can indeed be a challenge, leading to a constant internal debate between driving and taking the TTC. It's a dilemma many of us face regularly! Today marked a significant milestone for me as I stepped inside an aircraft for the first time to observe its operations. The aircraft, an A350, was a stunning marvel to behold – a beautiful beast indeed! At Cathay, there's always something new to learn, whether it's understanding the intricacies of aircraft systems or preparing for unexpected situations. Each experience brings me closer to mastering my role and contributing effectively to the team.

On obtaining my RAIC, I couldn't contain my excitement – Woohoo! Finally, I could step inside the terminal and assist at the gate. One of the tasks I've been entrusted with is document check. It's a meticulous process where we verify passengers' passports and boarding passes, ensuring a smooth transition through security. Witnessing this operation in action was awe-inspiring. The sheer volume of over 200 passengers lining up, divided into different classes, was a sight to behold. I also had the opportunity to contribute to the setup of the gate, including positioning signage to guide passengers to their respective lines. But what truly fascinated me was hearing the announcements echo through the terminal in both English and Chinese. Though I've been asked if I'd like to make announcements myself, I've hesitated due to the fear of stumbling over my words. However, I'm determined to overcome this hurdle and give it a shot once I'm more confident. After all, every experience, whether managing lines or making announcements, adds a unique touch to my journey at Cathay.

It’s Chinese New Year!! The Cathay management team surprised us students with red envelopes – such a thoughtful gesture! I've also been forming close bonds with some of the Cathay team members. Their supportiveness and friendliness, even when I make mistakes, are truly commendable. They guide me through situations, helping me improve and preventing similar mistakes in the future. Oh, and tomorrow is a big day for me as I'll be getting my yellow Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC). A RAIC is a security clearance card that allows me access inside the terminal to assist right at the gate! I couldn't be more excited for this opportunity!

While the Cathay team convened for a meeting, us co-op students indulged in a delightful feast courtesy of the team - pizza and refreshing drinks, an absolute treat! Despite the usual hustle, the lines remained manageable, ensuring a smooth flow of operations. It's fascinating how I'm gradually grasping some Chinese words, marveling at the complexity of language learning. Cheers to cultural immersion and culinary delights!

On the night shift, I had a blast managing lines and assisting passengers alongside the amazing counter staff. The team was incredibly supportive, always encouraging questions and understanding our less-experienced status. Witnessing the aircraft's beauty in both day and night was a perk. The vibe between day and night shifts varies, with morning shifts being chill, and I personally favor the lively night shifts filled with interactions and fast-paced excitement. Time flies during the night shifts; four hours feels like two. The staff is not only helpful but also fun and joyful, making the experience enjoyable. In a playful moment, I pretended to be a counter staff in a photo, adding a cute touch for the pictures. Anything for a good photo, right?

On the kickoff day, our orientation with Cathay Pacific was a total vibe! We dove into the world of inbound and outbound flights, snagged our stylish uniforms, and scoped out our turf in Terminal 3, Zone 5. From filling the Dim Sum cart with all the essentials to flaunting eye-catching totems and signs, we got the rundown on our tasks. The best part? Getting to know a bit about everyone and feeling the love from our welcoming team. Day 1 was a rollercoaster of fun, and I'm pumped for what's in store!
