Hi guys! In this update I show you (in video form) of the officially completed map. Last update I was only able to share some screenshots, but I also wanted to show a video of what's been done and how it looks now. In the next and final update I'll be doing a gameplay video for those who may not be able to play my game or for future reference if my game is removed/taken down. :)

Tumblr Update #6

Hello everyone! Tumblr update #6! I wanted to showcase the officially completed map with all the buttons for the tycoon. Not all of these buttons and everything here will be visible at once, since as a player your objective is to work up to building up your island and buying all the upgrades. The tycoon is 100% complete and only needs to be uploaded at this point, otherwise it is fully functional!

For this final week, I will only be working on uploading the rest of my progress and documenting it here while wrapping up the project completely. It's been a long semester and I'm happy with what I've gotten to complete during all these weeks.

I will also be uploading my reflection where I'll talk about the process, what I'm satisfied with or maybe not so much, the difficulties I've endured etc. It's been a very eventful semester and I hope everyone is doing well and satisfied with what they've done as well!

Tumblr Update #5

Hello all! This will be my 5th tumblr update discussing challenges, approaching final stages and my current satisfaction with my progress!

What are the biggest challenges you’re facing in your capstone right now, and what strategies are you considering to address them?

I'd say my biggest challenges is definitely balancing these updates and working alongside my project, with the added work of exams and papers from other classes. Admittedly it is easy to forget to update Tumblr! Regardless, my strategies to address this is to just make sure I set specific times and dates to complete the work for different classes while also making sure I get these updates up ASAP!

As you approach the final stages, what feedback or guidance do you need from your peers or mentors to refine your work?

I think I definitely need that motivation. Having so many things to do at once can be overwhelming, and hearing that others are in the same boat is really gratifying to here, knowing that we're all in this together. It gives me that boost to keep going!

Looking ahead to your capstoneʻs "presentation", are you satisfied with the quality of the work? How do you plan to communicate the impact and significance of your work effectively?

Definitely! The quality of my work I'd say has come a long way since the beginning of this semester. I've learned a lot and have gone through several issues in the past, but made it through ok! I plan to communicate the significance of my work I want to continue sharing my progress here to ensure that anyone interested in what I've done can see how it started versus how it came to be now heading towards the ending of the semester.

Tumblr Update #4

Hello! This update is a little different. As we near the end of the project, I've just wanted to show some screenshots of the nearly completed map. It features 3 sky islands of varying sizes, each with their own structures and decorations.

You start out on the first island, the tiniest one, with nothing but a tree to get you started. You'll eventually build a stand to start selling the items you collect from the tree, which will get you money to start upgrading your tycoon!

Throughout these past few weeks there has been quite a lot of moments where I grew frustrated, and a lot of moments where I felt satisfied. I'd say the biggest issue I've noticed is working with Lua scripts. I have never done this before. Learning something so new within this semester has been frustrating, but equally satisfying when it finally works out.

The first thing I scripted was a simple kill script for the invisible baseplate for when players fall/jump off the island (so they get respawned quicker after falling instead of waiting for the out-of-bounds kill script to activate). I tried a few different ways to get it to work but finally got it around the third try.

I'm nearing the end of my timeline now, still working on scripts and piecing the actual tycoon portion together as I prepare to finish up and finalize my project.

Hello! In this update I show some progress I've made so far. I'm still learning and in very early production so please bear with me. I also just want to say that the objects are meant to look stylized and blocky and I hope that as I make more models and add new things, everything will come together and look much better later on.

Introduction Video

Hello! My name is Yazmine and this is my introduction video for CM 491. Here, I will introduce my topic, along with my research question and plans for the capstone.

While looking through past senior capstones, one capstone that stood out to me was Evan Aritas. I thought his capstone was very interesting in terms of his research topic and especially his deliverable. I thought it was very cool to see his journey through character design, as well as the designs he created for his final deliverable.
