To: Alric Ryder From: Y’chai Nunh
My old friend,
You have no idea the surprise and joy I felt when I saw you in the market and realized you, too, had survived all these years. How long has it been since we last had an ale together? I’ve lost count of the years.
I moved to Limsa Lominsa since we last spoke. Privateers were signing up new crews and thanks to my martial training, I made something of a name for myself. As you’ve probably gathered. I’m growing old, I suppose, to continue defending my place as Nunh, but I have always been stubborn. I did lose the sight in one eye to a particularly ill-tempered griffin hatchling, but I’m still as quick as ever.
I confess, I haven’t had much time for tribal affairs or even piracy of late. Though I’ve long been practiced with a rapier and with magic, I heard tales of lone warriors in Ishgard, who wielded great swords and darkness and could hold their own against impossible odds. I won’t say it piqued my interest, but it nagged at me, pulled at my unconscious, until finally when I heard word of work in Coerthas, I made my way to the frozen north.
And...I did find what I was looking for. Somewhat. I’ll spare the details, but suffice to say I find myself with renewed interest in seeing my homeland free. But not right this minute. For now, I have companions in Ishgard who require my aid.
I’m terrible at ending these kinds of things, so I will say simply, don’t be a stranger. If you’re ever in need of a pint and a friendly ear, the Forgotten Knight in Ishgard does a frosty brew like none other.
Your friend, Y’chai

My companions and I have ventured further, into the Churning Mists. We have met with a group of moogles. I confess to having to set aside my broadsword for my rapier. The temptation to swing at an irritating ball of fluff is too much, otherwise. Oh, they are cute, for certain, but also trouble. One of my companions agrees with me, the others seem more taken with the fluffy fur.
That is exactly how a coeurl kitten looks before it pounces, you know.
I know I’ve said this at least once to all of them. At least we’re leaving soon.

We knew the interlude of peace and of magic in balance would not last. When faced with full grown dragons, he NEEDED me. And I obliged.
Slay...slave...We have killed so many.
Our companions were concerned with our struggle, but we are yet...in balance. As long as we have more to slay and to sate our hunger. We go now to a cloud top aerie, we think. Full of winds we used to know, but that was long ago, a different life. Faint as a dream. We will have to learn them anew.
Our griffin waits above. Though our chocobo balks at our darkness, the griffin understands. We hunger.

My companions thought the soul crystal I held was clouding my mind, and I’m not sure I disagree. Taking up my old sword for the first time in weeks, I feel like I can think again. This method of fighting feels monstrously weak in comparison to the dark arts I’ve been using, but for now, I will maintain this balance. At least until my allies’ fears have been allayed.

Y’chai: Journal Entry
Being called a lad never fails to amuse us. Those who don’t know how Miqo’te age fail to see the gray and white in our hair was not with us when we were born. Our face is scarred from years of previous battles. Our right eye blinded by a lucky claw swipe. Perhaps we will never fight from atop our griffin again, but it matters little.
We know other ways to kill now. And we hunger for it.

Y’chai: Journal Entry
We have been in Ishgard long enough that our memories of the sea are like a dream and our memories of Ala Mhigo a distant nightmare. Or, perhaps, it merely seems that way, as we learn this new form of combat and have our mettle tested at every turn. The enemies all die the same, but in combat we thrive.
We have misgivings about the zealots of Ishgard, and it is not only due to our tutor’s hatred of the Temple Knights. Zealots cannot be trusted, of that we are certain. They will turn on us the moment we lose our value, or sooner if they suspect any heresy. And heresy’s definition is fluid to those who crave power. Inevitably, our prowess in killing our enemies makes enemies of our patrons. Only a fool trusts our patron completely.
Serve...save..slave...slay...We cannot think sometimes through the pounding in our head. We mean to ask our tutor about it, but we forget it when we are given the kinds of tasks we yearn for.
We woke from what seemed like a dream yesterday, our blade bloody and the corpse of a Temple Knight at our feet. We were assured it was only in self defense that we acted, but we are not sure our tutor can be trusted. We will keep a sharp watch on him, as well.

So I redid Y’chai Nunh a bit. I’ll post a bio shortly because I NEED to get this guy’s basic backstory down before I forget it. Basically, he’s an old Ala Mhigan Miqo’te turned pirate turned dark knight.

Y’chai Nunh, a young Mi’qote native to Limsa Lominsa. His immediate family fled Ala Mhigo when it fell. Y’chai has been working on the crew of a privateer in Limsa Lominsa, though recently he’s struck out on his own to learn a new fighting technique he’s heard about, from knights in Ishgard.

A few of my new characters on Mateus! Top four pictures are C’shtah Nuhn, an Ala Mhigan Miqo’te. Middle three pictures are Jazai Dalazai, a young arcanist and pirate. Bottom left is Marcelloix Auberlaint, a Duskwight who came to Ul’dah to study to become a thaumaturge. Bottom right is Aruktai Iriq, a hot mess who is working on becoming a dark knight.

Pictures of Qhon Chalahko, mother of my two other characters, Qhon’ra and Qhon’a.
Also pictures of Deryk Fulke, who is going to be my rogue/ninja character and might end up an Au Ra eventually. I still have Fantasia for him.

Qhon Chalahko, mother of both Qhon’a and Qhon’ra. And a pretty sinister mage. Because.

Okay, I have no good pictures of my FFXI taru taru, but have a bad picture of him and a picture of my FFXIV lalafell.
This game is pure nostalgia man. Just so long as I’m not eating dirt over a crab.
