As Iâve previously mentioned, I wrote an article about lohsebille for uni and now that Iâm doing a proper Sebille origin run I have some further thoughts that I wanted to share here regarding Sebilleâs relationship with Tir-Cendellius and how it parallels Lohse and the demonâs relationship, along with some thoughts on my Sebille origin run (with lone wolves Lohse)
Thereâs very clear parallels between Lohse and Sebilleâs relationships. Both have been taken advantage of by men in their lives and have had their bodies used and taken control of in an incredibly violating manner. but whatâs especially interesting to me is how this cycle continues to be perpetuated in Sebilleâs life.
First, she runs away from the Mother Tree and her role as a scion, which arguably, is not dissimilar to what happens in the future to her. She doesnât have control or autonomy and is forced to engage with a cycle of violence. Then she is enslaved, and subjected to that horrifying trauma. But when she properly meets Tir-Cendellius, I was surprised to see this reiteration of the same cycle in her interactions with him, especially since I donât think Iâve seen anyone talk about this before.
Tir belittles her and blames her for being enslaved. He treats her in the same manner, taunting her and branding her. When Sebille threatens to mark his name on her wrist and kill him, he brands his name on her for Sebille in the most painful way possible. Then the emotional whiplash ensues as he declares her his champion and swaps his name for her own, claiming that she is her own owner now. This is incredibly reminiscent of Lohseâs interactions with the demon and how he flips between praise and belittlement.
I was shocked mainly because Tirâs reaction is so different to what I experienced playing a custom elf character previously.
I do not know as much about this, but from what I have read, Ifan also has a terse relationship with Rhalic, partly due to his transracial adoption into an elven tribe (I think?) I donât know much about this so Iâm curious if anyone else does.
Finally, Iâll add that in a conversation I had with someone, they pointed out that Sebille has decided to stop running away from her past whereas Lohse still does. I think that this is true to an extent, though now playing her origin I see a lot more of her fear and dread regarding her whole story, things she holds close to her chest.
Sebille appears cold and calculated but her motives are purely emotional, and she hides this from the world to protect herself. But in her romance she slowly starts opening this up more. In many ways her pain and trauma are a large part of how she presents herself, she doesnât hide it, but she presents it in a rather curated way, as opposed to Lohse, who tries to completely hide it and fails.
Anyway, felt the need to get some 2am thoughts about this game out. Curious to hear other perspectives on this.

The Hobbitsâ Ages in Equivalent Man-Years
I always had a hard time keeping this straight, so Iâm laying it out for myself as much as for anyone else who is interested to know. Hobbits, as we all know, donât age like humans do; they take a bit longer to âget grownâ as my mom put it. In particular, they come of age at 33, where it is stated that Men come of age at 18. (this also explaining why Hobbits live so long compared to what we, as humans expect; Bilboâs âoddnessâ was not so much that he was 111 years old, but that he didnât look much older than 50. Most hobbits live to around 100 or above by a few years or even decades)
So if we equate 33 to 18, we can do a bit of algebra and figure up the âhumanâ equivalents of the hobbitsâ ages in the Lord of the Rings books. The formula used here is 33/given age = 18/x, where x is the human equivalent. (You multiply 18 by the age given for them in the book, and then divide by 33.)
Frodo Baggins Given age at start of quest: 50. Human equivalent: 27
Samwise Gamgee Given age at start of quest: 36 Human equivalent: 19, closer to 20
Meriadoc Brandybuck Given age at start of quest: 37 Human equivalent: 20
Peregrin Took Given age at start of quest: 28 Human equivalent: 15
And just for fun
Bilbo Baggins Given age at the long expected party: 111 Human equivalent: 60, or if weâre rounding up 61. His age when Frodo found him in Rivendell was 69, almost 70.
I love thinking about the Hobbits in these terms. Being that I am now older than ž of the guys who went on the quest, and closer to Frodo than I am to the others, it makes them a whole lot more relatable. This might also explain why a lot of people are put off by how they behave; if youâre looking at them like humans of the ages listed in Hobbit-years, their behavior doesnât make a ton of sense, particularly Pippinâs. But when you realize they are young adults closer to being teenagers than âreal grownupsâ (with the exception of Frodo), they become much more understandable, and much more relatable. Theyâre still naive, and Pippin is still a goofy child. Frodo is young enough to be fun-loving and a little care-free, but old enough for people to expect sobriety, maturity, and a certain amount of disdain for his younger friendsâ shenanigans. (Especially in a society like Hobbiton, which is way too Upper Class for Pip and Merryâs tomfoolery.)
So instead of a 50 year old and a few 30-somethings, think of them more like this:
Frodo, the young adult who is, perhaps a little too old to be called a âyoungâ adult anymore, but is still trying to hold on to his youth, and prefers the company of his kid cousins to the stuffy old folks at the âgrown-ups table.â Frodo, who is still trying to figure out who he is outside of the context of his famous (and infamous) uncle, and who turns to his younger friends and family because they see him for him, not his adopted lineage.
Sam, the impressionable, under-educated son of a poor day-laborer who loves the boss who treats him like an equal and a friend, despite being so much older and wealthier and âsmarterâ than him, and who looks out for him and gives him a job despite not really needing an employee. Sam, the young man who is barely not a child anymore, who is unwaveringly loyal to the man who treats him more like a younger brother than a landscaper, because he wants to be so much more than a landscaper who barely learnt his letters.
Merry, the self-appointed mom friend who put off his childishness too soon, and who often forgets heâs not the oldest, while still marveling at the fact that heâs one of the grown ups now. Merry, who wants to look after the literal child thatâs tagging along with them, his cousin the more-or-less prince who needs him to protect him, often from himself. Merry who still feels protective over Frodo when really Frodo is the one who really should be looking after him, and shutting Frodo down when he tries to do so.
Pippin, the baby who got in way over his head because of love for his family, and a thirst for excitement. The child who wants to be adult enough for the adventure, but is still immature enough to play in the bath. The child who had to grow up too fast because he was too curious. Pippin, the teenager who became a warrior of necessity, who wasnât even an adult by the time they got back, and who took on the War of all Wars because he couldnât stand to leave his family and friends to do it alone.
The hobbits seem a lot older when you go by numbers, but if you look at it in our terms, they suddenly become a little more human and a lot more complex, at least in my opinion.

Bucky Applebees, eventually, starts following Kristen's advice. He does the scary thing, he learns he doesn't have to be scared. Rinse and repeat. He leans into the unknown, the drop-off into deeper waters. His smites glow less golden and more silvery. He sends a quick prayer to Cassandra before trying something new.
He starts to spend time with his adventuring part, for real. They are loud and kind and willing to teach him what he wasn't allowed to learn. They have study sessions and slumber parties. They give each other makeovers with nail polish and hairbands and cheap makeup. (Bucky takes it off before going home.)
They call Bucky "Bee," short for both his first name and last. They don't say anything when he starts wearing the clothes Kristen left behind. It's mostly tie-dye and sweatshirts, anyway.
They let Bee find herself at her own pace. It's slow at first, breaking down the lifetime of fear, and then the dam bursts. She stops asking why and starts existing, lets some things be unknown.
She reads books about The Nightmare King, and the Church of Cassandra blog Kristen started. She sees herself in the story. An angry, terrifying being, isolated. Making a real connection and being given a name. Becoming calmer, fiercer, more herself.
The summer before sophomore year, she shows up at Mordred. She sees Kristen's room, Cassandra's chapel. She whispers a prayer and the altar flickers with starlight.
They sit on Kristen's bed and Bee talks quickly and quietly.
"I don't want to be there anymore. I can't be anything other than your sister."
And Kristen, the girl she looks up to more than any other, smiles.
"Hey girlie."

Guilty as charged!
So who else watched the second season of Shadow and Bone by skipping all the Darkling bits, most of the Alina bits, and instead gleefully hyperfocusing on all the Crows? And then, when the season was over, went back and rewatched all of the Crows scenes?

The thought of Eddie thinking about things he could use to cover his face (a bandana) but not willing to ruin his metalhead look by using his own is so funny to me. "Red, you got a bandana? Because I need to keep this one in my pocket. I know it's basically a life or death situation but come on. I'm not ruining my *aesthetic*"

Excuse me... WHAT! Are you kidding me? This just proves to me that the actors should have just written the entire show. Literally everything great about it came from the actors improvising or something similar. Thank Cthulhu this draft never saw the light of day..
