Said upon leaving the Githyanki Creche
Tumblr media
"My first tour of a githyanki creche. Memorable, to be certain, but the service left something to be desired."
Something about Wyll is leaving his Yelp review while bruised and covered in blood is dumbly funny to me. "Eh, they tried to kill me, but at least it'll make for a good story." 😂

I don’t think that’s nescessarily what’s happening. People who do create wheelchair or disability related tabletop content do get harassed by people talking why it’s unrealistic in a fantasy setting. So I don’t think being frustrated over people who are “unwilling to suspend disbelief” about wheelchairs always means thinking that someone has to include wheelchairs in their own work. It could just be frustration at people who go on rants about that kind of content existing at all or being featured in a dnd podcast they like or whatever.
Like, that kind of moralizing about inclusiveness definitely happens but so does relentless “um-actually” needling of people who are just trying to make their own content featuring disability.
Re: Fantasy elf wheelchair discourse:
Problem isn't writing a dungeon module with a wheelchair-accessible dungeon (though shouldn't it be a four-legged magic wheelchair construct instead?), you can give the excuse that the dungeon was designed for rolling constructs or something. Problem is trying to get moral leverage for being the guy that provided the wheelchair accessible dungeon module.
"Unlike you pathetic gamers, I actually care about disabled people," that sort of moral entrepreneurship is really obnoxious and people don't want to deal with it.

Baldur’s Gate really leans into all the things a vampire’s lust for blood is a metaphor for. It’s food, it’s a violent compulsion that can easily kill its victims, biting is both sensual and painful, if he gets enough he gets “drunk.”
It could be a messy mixed metaphor but I think it really works for him. Food and pleasure and sex and intoxication and violence are all kind of tangled together for him both because of his vampirism and his trauma.
Thoughts on Astarion I haven't seen around fandom yet and I'm wondering if I'm the only one with this interpretation?
His blood lust is very addict coded. He's always on some level thinking about blood, and the game does a fair job at showing addict behavior from the hoarding of blood bottles in his tent, the messy behavior, the cravings, being distracted thinking sbout it, etc. Now of course his is actual FOOD , but INTERESTINGLY since he can't starve 'to death' (only to the point of near death) the parallels to addiction remain incredibly strong.
Everyone agrees that even Astarion sees himself as a prostitute, but I haven't seen anyone look at the blood/drug connection yet.
The way Cazador fed him bugs and putrid rats made me think of how pimps withhold drugs to make prostitutes incapacitated. Its also why they get them hooked to begin with (ensures loyalty, you control their access). He steals Astarion, turns him, controls him, uses his body to bring back victims.
A prostitute gets kidnapped, hooked on drugs, and their bodies are used to bring back money.
When we first meet Astarion he's an addict that is starved of his product. Suddenly SURROUNDED by it and with no Cazador (no pimp) to restrict or deny access. Blood lust (cravings) distract him in conversation. He frequently zones out fixating on it.
Eh? Ehhhh? I think yes.
