I need a series where Yangchen/Kuruk/Kyoshi/Roku/Aang/Korra (from their respected novels/shows, guess Kuruk is an outlier tho) and their companions all gather in Korra's timeline and just....react to things. Aang: On second, let's just go to the Northern Air Temple. Yangchen: Oops, can't, I'm banned from going. Aang: ????! WHAT?! You're an Air Nomad, how do you get banned from an Air Temple???? How did YOU get banned, but NOT Kyoshi???? Kuruk: She got a tad bit silly. Roku: Oh let's go to Ma'inka island then! It's suppose to be amazing. Kyoshi, war flashbacks: FUCK NO! You can't make me go back there! Yangchen: Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm not welcome there either. They hate my guts. I kinda fucked them over. Aang: What is the matter with you two? Korra: Can we just find a place to chill out where Yangchen isn't banned, and Kyoshi isn't having a meltdown?

Inan and Abuse

I don’t think most people in the CoBaB fandom understand abuse. Inan was abused and the after effect of that is his rocky relationship with his powers and magic in general. Of course he likes the calmer magic because he never new it existed he thought it was all bad but then if he’s reminded of the defensive and offensive magic it’s obviously gonna make him remember the years of being told that magi are bad. He was forced to fight his own sister for goodness sake.

Now this is in no way me saying his actions were okay, good, or justifiable. I’m just saying that abuse is abuse and it will affect how he sees everything for the rest of his life. I know a lot of people are gonna hate on me for this but honestly his situation hits close to home and I completely understand his point of view. For all you ZeliexAmari shipper (no problem with you its just a lot of you seem to not understand) he’s essentially the closeted gay who was told by his parents gay is sinful and so he turns into a raging homophobe except now it’s truly something he can’t ever control and he gets killed by his own father for it.

Once again! What he did was not okay or good or justifiable but you have to understand that sometimes abusers get the victim into a midset they can’t escape. That was Inan’s problem. He was a child who wanted his father’s apporval but thought he never could. When he found a way he thought would work he got stabbed in the back by family. He’s a child of abuse he can’t escape and when he thought he found a way he was litterally killed. 

Amari has the same issues with her self esteem and body issues but people understand that. It seems a most people are empathetic or sympathetic of Amari but not Inan. It isn’t fair in my eyes. Just because she overcame her abuse doesn’t mean Inan automatically could have done the same.

Just my 2 cents and if you have any evidence to refute my claims I’m more than happy to see it as long as you treat me with respect.

god will i ever stop thinking about the fact that annabeth admitted in mark of athena that she fell even more in love with percy the summer they all thought he was supposed to die at the hands of the prophecy and the whole summer they were still skirting around their feelings but neither of them would do anything because annabeth was scared of losing him just like she’s lost everyone in her life and percy didn’t want to let her down but then he did survive and he didn’t leave her and they started dating and she said it was the happiest four months of her life dating percy and then he was taken away from her just like she always thought he would and i can’t even imagine how she was feeling knowing the person she cared about more than anyone in the world was taken away from her and he might not remember her and her feelings just got stronger and stronger the longer they were apart but then they’re finally reunited and he’s telling her that the only person he remember, the only thing he remembered was her, and he’s telling her he wants to make plans for the future with her and despite the separation and anxiety and sadness and fear she had been feeling for the past six months, imagine how reassuring that felt for percy to say all those things to her and throughout all of mark of athena he just kept promising her he was going to come back and when she finally completes her quest to save the athena parthenos and the first thing he says to her is “it’s okay we’re together again” and she thinks to herself i love him for saying that because he knows her better than he knows anyone and then he still refuses to leave her and they fall into tartarus together and i think annabeth really knows how much percy loves her and knows her as person by the end of mark of athena because she’s always been a little worried and she tries to move past it but it takes a lot for her to trust but percy just proves time and time again that he doesn’t want to leave her, not if he can help it

understanding each other’s pain because they both lost their mothers whom they loved very much 

leo immediately looking out for frank after finding out frank’s one weakness is fire

leo being scared because he’s worried he’ll cause frank’s death the same way he caused his mother’s and as a result, always trying to gain frank’s trust 

frank making sure leo doesn’t feel left out and always having his back bc he knows what it’s like to be the insignificant one and feel like you’ll never do anything great 

fucking genuine friendship instead of a contrived love triangle no one wanted

Children of Blood and Bone Book Review

Zelie remembers when the soil of Orisha hummed with magic. When different clans ruled - Burners igniting flames, Tiders beckoning waves, and Zelie’s Reaper mother summoning forth souls.

But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, anyone with powers was targeted and killed, leaving Zelie without a mother and her people without hope. Only a few people remain with the power to use magic, and they must remain hidden.

Zelie is one such person. Now she has a chance to bring back magic to her people and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zelie must learn to harness her powers and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.

Rating: ★★★★★

Children of Blood and Bone works precisely because it has the combination of a thrilling plot and interesting characters. Initially, the reader is dropped straight into a world that doesn’t make complete sense, yet both the plot and characters allow for rich world-building – slowly but surely more information comes your way. I personally prefer this method of world-building, rather than getting it in large chunks at the beginning, or through heavy exposition. 

The idea of a small group of people journeying to bring magic to a land in which it has been destroyed, was already a good one. But make those people a girl with magic and her non-magic brother (Zélie and Tzain), and the prince and princess of the monarchy that oppresses magic (Inan and Amari), and you have a really fascinating cast of characters because there is so much inter-personal dynamic to explore. Perhaps the most enjoyable moments of Children of Blood and Bone were the ways in which these vastly different characters interacted, and how these interactions changed over time. Whilst Inan and Amari live a very privileged life compared to the others, they lack the parental love that Zélie and Tzain have. Yet, they manage to not only find some common ground, but also a commonality of ideas about oppression and the future of Orisha. 

This is especially reminiscent in the developing relationship between the two girls, who have come to appreciate each other’s values and attributes. The real love story of Children of Blood and Bone is the love and understanding between Zélie and Amari. They have come a long way from the unlikely and unfriendly allies that they were in the beginning – Zélie in particular took a long time to warm up to Amari when her brother liked her pretty much instantly.

I really loved the plot twist ending, and I seriously can’t wait to see how it impacts the events of the sequel – especially because this will be a demonstration of Zélie’s concerns about who has magic, and what they choose to do with it.
