Tutorial Assignment #11
Hello Everyone,
As we all navigate through the current digital era, we all stand on the brink of transformative change. With emerging technologies such as blockchain, 5G, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are becoming more common, innovation in the world of technology has no limits.
Innovation is what drives the economy and digital world, companies such SES (Sustainable Energy Solutions) demonstrate how creative problem-solving and digital tools can be used to address global challenges. One example of this is SES's Cryogenic Carbon Capture (CCC) technology, which is revolutionizing the energy sector. By eliminating over 98% of carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel combustion, CCC not only mitigates climate change but also enables the better integration of intermittent renewable energy sources through grid-scale energy storage. By fostering and encouraging a culture of experimentation and passion we are able to help shape the future of technology.
Another core driver of the digital world is programming, by providing more resources and tools to individuals. We are able to de-stigmatize the scariness of programming and empower a new generation of creators to actively shape their digital environments. An example of this includes the company code ninja which fosters a positive learning environment for children who want to learn how to code and provides fun and welcoming guidance.
As mentioned above, 5G networks and IoT devices are transforming connectivity, making the impossible possible. For instance, in the healthcare industry, healthcare monitoring devices that are portable/even wearable offer immense potential for both patients and healthcare providers. IoT devices can collect real-time health metrics such as heart rate, blood pressure, and temperature from patients remotely, eliminating the need for physical visits to healthcare facilities which can be a challenge for some patients that are not entirely mobile.
Lastly, as we are in an era where digital interactions are the norm, trust is crucial. Blockchain technology offers transparent systems that revolutionize industries like finance. It ensures accountability while empowering individuals to control their data and privacy. For example, blockchain baking introduces leverages this technology to simplify payment processing. Companies like Ripple, Mastercard, and Robinhood are already using blockchain to revolutionize the finance industry, reducing costs, speeding up transactions, and increasing security.
These are some amazing and positive changes that have recently been made. In order to realize a positive digital future, we must keep prioritizing sustainability, inclusivity, and education. The digital future is in everyone’s hands and it is up to us to keep building it with care. Sincerely,
Yeon

In the Cyber Lab game, I was instructed to protect against real-world cyber threats like brute force attacks, malware, and phishing. Each of these attacks represents a significant risk to our personal and organizational cybersecurity. Malware is often used by cybercriminals to secretly infiltrate systems and steal data or disrupt services. In the game, I had to spot vulnerabilities and come up with solutions to block these attacks, showing how damaging malware can be if left unchecked. For example in the password cracking game, brute force attacks were used, the game involved guessing passwords through software-generated combinations, and phishing, where users are tricked into revealing information or downloading harmful software, was also simulated in the game. Both of these methods are common ways hackers gain unauthorized access, often exploiting simple mistakes or weak points in security. I could see the importance of staying vigilant against such attacks and understanding their tactics as they became increasingly harder to defend against. The experience reinforced the need to keep systems and data secure, highlighting that proactive defense is key to fending off cyber threats.

CEID100 Tutorial Assignment #5
Mal-information
Link: https://www.tiktok.com/@sumnerstroh/video/7145094095915240750
One example of mal-information I found is the cheating scandal between Adam Levine and Sumner Stroh. The information released included private messages that revealed an affair between the two. These messages were not fabricated and were proven to be true through various screenshots that were shown in the video. In particular, there was a message where Adam Levine asked if he could name his unborn child after Sumner which further proved the affair. This incident is an example of mal-information, as it involved real, private information being exposed with the purpose of damaging Adam Levine’s reputation and career.
Misinformation
Link:https://www.reddit.com/r/korea/comments/9zm39z/korean_doctor_prescribing_antibiotics_at_first/
One example of misinformation I found was a post on Reddit detailing where a doctor prescribed antibiotics along with typical cold medicine for the poster’s child. This highlights a good example of misinformation as antibiotics are commonly mistaken as something that can treat virus infections. However, antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections. The overuse of antibiotics can lead to the resistance of the medication which can impact the effectiveness of these treatments in the future. Although the doctor did not prescribe them with the intent to harm, having accurate information on antibiotics can help ensure that the right medications are allocated for the right patients.
Disinformation
Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g4r4251p3o
One example of disinformation I found was the case of Michelle Sword who almost died after using a fake weight loss injection (ozempic). Ozempic has been a fast-growing trend after it was revealed that many celebrities use it to lose weight quickly. The fake injection was found to be a fast-acting insulin which caused her to have multiple seizures and eventually led her to a diabetic coma. This is a severe case of disinformation as the product was intentionally mislabeled to trick consumers into purchasing the product who believed this was coming from a legitimate and authorized seller of ozempic.

Tutorial Assignment #1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two screenshots are a great example of showcasing the concepts of infrastructure and interactivity. Infrastructure can be described as a foundation for communication as Instagram allows users to consume media conveniently and quickly, as such the delivery of content is a crucial factor in how interactivity is influenced. The screenshots show how the type of wording the infrastructure uses can greatly impact and control the interactivity between users. For example, in the first screenshot, many users came together and voiced their opinions on how school funding should have been spent on more important concerns such as textbooks, teacher funding, etc. Though with no additional context and ambiguous wording, the foundation and clarity of the message can be misunderstood as there may be more reasoning behind this, thus leading to many outraged commenters.  This is also evident in the second screenshot as the wording of the post was more positive as it was reporting on how a 15-year-old had developed a soap to treat skin cancer.  Since the message was more clear and concise, the users were more inclined to engage positively as evidenced by the comments.
Both examples highlight how the platform’s infrastructure can be used to affect the nature of user engagement. The first example demonstrates a less constructive way to communicate and interact with one another while the second example created a positive interaction, in which comments came together to praise their achievements rather than spark a heated discussion. Instagram’s infrastructure includes a comment section, with the convenience of adding a comment and responding to other’s comments showing how important it is to review and ensure the tools being used to communicate should be in a positive manner. Ultimately, these examples demonstrate how platforms are able to shape user engagement and the overall quality and environment of interaction within the digital space simply with how the foundation of the infrastructure is worded.
