rural southern queer and trans nonprofit in need!
sending up the bat signal on this transgender day of visibility because the org i'm involved with desperately needs aid. the unfortunate and hard truth about nonprofits is that they still have to exist under capitalism, which forces funding to always be a primary concern. especially right now, access to funding opportunities for organizations like mine are becoming increasingly scarce and inaccessible. this is even more true if, like us, you're just a scrappy lil' guy trying to support rural queer and trans folks.
it was really moving to see the rallying behind the @ofmdcraftfair for campaign for southern equality - another beautiful nonprofit providing much needed support for LGBTQ+ southerns, and one my org has partnered with a few times in the past. so i thought, why not tell y'all a little more about who we are too? if you're unable to offer monetary support, consider at least boosting this post to spread the the word. more eyes on it means a higher likelihood that anyone who is in a position to help might find out about us.
that said, if you're into things like accessible and affirming mental health support for marginalized people (especially LGBTQ+), neurodiversity rights and advocacy, building strong communities, and making sure as many people as possible stay fed: let me introduce you to cornbread & roses.
Our mission is to foster community, celebrate diversity, and provide holistic therapeutic support to empower personal growth, resilience, and healing. We exist to fill vital gaps in services and to create community in the tradition of our Appalachian heritage, with love, joy, pride, solidarity, and good food.
we approach this mission in a number of different ways:
we prioritize working with mental health clinicians who share identities and lived experiences with our marginalized client populations in order to offer affirming, informed therapy. as marginalized folks ourselves, it's important to us that clients don't have to expend the emotional labor of educating yet another professional on their identities and challenges. our clinical interns offer sliding-scale or donation-based spots and the rest of our clinicians are paneled with all major insurances, including all medicaid plans.
we operate a low-barrier food pantry that's open three days a week and, with the help of our partnership with MANNA food bank, feeds dozens of food-insecure families and individuals in rural western NC. no form of identification, proof of residence, or any sort of paperwork is required to access our pantry - nor do we restrict or police how much food someone takes. the pantry itself is also set up like a little grocery shop to make the experience as dignified and client-choice centered as possible.
we offer trainings and education courses on a number of different topics related to ways to better support and be an active ally to marginalized folks.
most importantly, we build community. our name comes from a quote that's attributed to helen todd, a worker's rights activist from the early 1900s labor rights movements: "bread for all and roses too." at cbr, we're always asking ourselves how to feed the hearts as well as the bodies of the folks who come to us. we believe everyone deserves the things that make life beautiful in addition to just basic necessities: things such as connection, love, joy, and a place to belong. we offer monthly support groups and seasonal clinical groups. we also do drag story hours, friendsgiving potlucks during the holidays, an annual juneteenth pride picnic, a monthly outdoor movie night, and more.
if you're thinking cool, so how can i support or let others know how to support, here you go:
a monthly or one-time donation to our givebutter page
or buying some cool merch (shirts, sweaters, mugs, or totes) from our bonfire page
or follow our instagram to stay updated about what we're up to and other ways to support.
and if you're in the WNC area, come see us! you can join us at an event, stop by the adorable little farmhouse we operate out of to chat, or even volunteer at our pantry.

This feed is pretty great because it has all the creators info so you can easily check out what they have up for sale! Check the feed out here! == Love Notes ==
Hey there crew. It's been a while. I'm sorry this edition is so small after such a huge amount of time. Trying to keep them to 2-4 days, but we'll see how that goes with how behind I am. It's been a lot lately. Home, work, the world, the fandom, just a lot's been happening all at once. I've been trying to focus on a few things that I've had to work on outside the fandom as well as taking some mental health breaks and that's been keeping me busy.
So tonight, for the love notes, I just wanted to take a second to say thank you. So many of you have been so kind to me and so many others over this past year + that I've been here. Even if I just get to see your name pop up on my notifications for a like or a reblog, or if we chat, or I just get to catch glimpses of your works across the various platforms, it brings me a lot of joy.
Some of you, I only really know through tags. Others I know from discord, or bsky, or instagram. Some of you I've never spoken to outside of tumblr-- but I can honestly tell you, you have improved my life by being here.
Others of you, I consider you some of my closest friends. Friends I've never met, miles away around the world, and your influence on me is so incredibly profound -- and even if we never meet each other in person, I will never be the same because of you.
I'm so very blessed and lucky to have found this place-- to have found you all. I know a lot of you feel the same way about the people you interact with here on the day to day.
That being said, the world is a complicated place. Sometimes things don't go the way we planned, whether on a personal, fandom, or global level. Sometimes people disappoint us, and spaces we thought fit us shift in shape. No matter what changes for you in this world, I want you to know that your kindness, and your interactions with me and everyone else have made a positive difference. Thousands and millions of tiny interactions continue to happen within our fandom every day. Some of them don't go the way we hope they will-- but the majority of them, are beautiful. Sometimes we have to learn from them, and they help us grow, and sometimes they nourish us in hard times. We are a community of wonderfully kind people who were brought together by chance. Thank you for being here. Thank you for making my life better, and this world a better place.

Itâs been 19 thrilling days, but the OFMD Craft Fair is officially CLOSED!Â
What started off as a simple idea (âwhat if we did something crafty to raise money for trans kids?â) blossomed into something greater than any of our wildest expectations.Â
For those who like numbers, here are some fun ones for you:
1: the number of auctions we planned to hold
2: the number of flash auctions we ended up holding in addition to that
156: the number of people who donated crafts
214: the number of listings at the start of the fair
503: the number of listings at the end
842: the number of people who placed bids or made donations
$5,000: our original fundraising goal
$95,021: the amount we ultimately through auctions alone, all to benefit the Campaign for Southern Equalityâs Trans Youth Emergency Project
At least $105,000: the amount weâve raised so far through our donation form
Those numbers are all phenomenal, mind-blowing, even. But this auctionâs success is about more than just numbers. Itâs about a group of people who saw an opportunity to help and grabbed it. Itâs about people stepping in to help any way they could. Itâs about people sharing the excitement, boosting each other up, spreading the word of the event so that more and more people could join in.Â
Itâs about people coming together as a collective, because while individually we may be capable of small change, together, we can do something truly incredible.Â
Thank you to every single person who was a part of the craft fair, whether it was through crafting, bidding, or spreading the hype. None of this would have been possible without you.
So⊠now what? The craft fair team is in fulfillment mode, working to make sure everyone is paid up and receives their items. We very much appreciate your patience through this process; as a reminder, itâs still just six of us, and we promise weâre working as fast as we can!
Additional donations We know some fans are keeping the generosity going and offering commissions to raise even more money, to which we say, FAB! You can continue to make donations through this link: https://bit.ly/OFMDcraft We will get a final count of the amount we raised through additional donations next week, but the form will stay open for now.
More crafts, please! While there will NOT be another craft fair, weâre gathering information from our crafters so you know where to go to continue to shop their wares or seek them out for commissions. More to come!Â
Questions? As always, reach out to us at [email protected] if you have any questions along the way.
Thanks again, crew. Our family, our fight!Â

i'm sure i'm not the first to send this kind of thing in but a MASSIVE lovely letter to everyone who has taken part in organising the ofmd craft fair (i don't want to name drop bc i don't know everyone who is involved so i will miss people out and then i'll feel bad forever but i love you all)
it's been incredible to watch the donations going up and the whole fandom has felt like a really fun positive place to be during the past week and we're all just having a silly time and buying little items and raising a fuckton of money for charity and i think that's neat
(also as someone who has worked for charities irl i need you to understand how fucking insane the staff at the trans youth emergency fund must be going right now. i'd be vibrating through the wall)
To the organizing crew behind @ofmdcraftfair â @adhduck, @veeagainsttheday, @xoxoemynn, @yerbamansa, @zombee, and, of course, their tireless captain @ghostalservice â this lovely letter is for you. đ
Crew, there's still a few more days left in the auction, so be sure to check it out here.
#i cannot express in tumblr tags how much it means to get to work on this#and see the response it has#so many people involved it is blowing my mind on the regular#we can do good for each other we really can#anyhoo#đ„Č
