STOOOP bestie and Armand playing the sims together like little kids playing with barbies is sooooo cute. With this and their Minecraft world I could see them just enjoying more fun things together. Like they could buy those big puzzles and it would just be laying around their house for weeks while they finish.

The soft thrum of thin, laminated pieces of plywood being pushed across the smooth surface of the coffee table is strangely grounding.

You exhale, keeping your gaze focused on Armand as he begins the preliminary sorting process. You've done this enough times to know that with him, the early stages are a balancing act. He likes having a moment to lay out and assess each part of the puzzle as an individual entity before you start searching for corner pieces.

You don't mind giving him a beat to mentally strategize. If anything, the openness that comes with these moments are worth the stillness. He's different when he's focused, the sharp contrast between the set of his furrowed brow and the rest of his features somehow making him seem softer...younger, almost.

Instead of letting yourself dwell on thoughts about his appearance in relation to external age, you shift your focus back onto the puzzle pieces in front of you. Armand brushes some of the pieces out of place, making sure that none of them overlap. He turns his head as he continues to sort through the pieces without exactly looking at you.

The shift, though small, feels like enough of an acknowledgement for you to sit up a little straighter. You extend an arm, moving a few pieces as you begin the search for smooth, sharp corners.

"A thousand piece landscape..." You keep your focus on the pieces covering the coffee table. "We're getting ambitious."

Armand pushes a few pieces with a completely smooth side towards you. "After the last one, I think we've earned our ambition."

The last puzzle the two of you put together was completed in record time. It had taken no time at all for you to fall into a steady rhythm of sorting and putting together.

"Well," you begin, fully aware of the fact that you're only arguing out of ritualistic habit, "You know what they say about over confidence."

He pauses before angling himself towards you. "What do they say about over confidence?" Something about his tone tells you that this redirect is his way of acknowledging the fact that you're being argumentative for the sake of it.

It takes you a second too long to think of a response, and once you finally do, it falls flat, "To be wary of it." You blink in an attempt to recover from your lack of true rebuttal. "Obviously."

The corner of his mouth turns up slightly at that. "Obviously."

There's a coolness to the way that he echoes the word that leaves your skin feeling a little warmer than it did a moment ago. You remain as still as possible, keeping your focus on him until he turns to face the table again. You're glad for the excuse to follow suit.

You extend an arm, returning to your unofficial role of corner piece finder. You're pushing a few pieces across the table when you notice a fine point among the array of fragments. You smile to yourself as you pick up the corner piece.

Wordlessly, Armand pushes a short row of already connected pieces across the table. You press your piece into place before moving the start of the puzzle's border towards the center of the coffee table.

The two of you settle into an even, wordless rhythm as you continue to work on your puzzle. Armand's silence feels different than anyone else's; there's an underlying sharpness to his wordlessness that's consistent enough to be comforting. Even when he's quiet, you can always feel that he's still there, still as aware of you as you are of him.

"No plans today?"

The sound of his voice pulls you out of your thoughts. You blink, your hand briefly stilling over the pieces. "Doesn't this count as plans?"

It takes him a moment to respond, "I meant evening plans..." He pauses, letting out a breath before tacking on an only a slightly passive aggressive, "With your dearest."

Evening plans...as in plans scheduled for after the sun has fully set so that they can include Louis. Beyond a conversation about potentially streaming a movie and using some new face masks, you and Louis haven't planned anything for tonight.

You pick up a puzzle piece that looks like it might fit into the section that you've been working on. When the piece doesn't easily slip into place, you return it to its original pile. "I'm doing something with my dearest right now."

You press your lips together to keep from smiling too soon before turning your head towards Armand. He's already facing you, but he dips his chin downwards before you can make eye contact. The reaction feels so shy and normal, it manages to tug at something in your chest you didn't even know existed. An ancient vampire has no business being this endearing.

Deciding that he's suffered enough, you decide to actually answer his original question, "Louis and I don't have any plans tonight." You return to looking through the pieces in front of you for a match. "I've been craving a smoothie from that place a few blocks from here, so I might make him take me later."

'Make' is too a strong word, considering the fact that Louis never complains about going anywhere with you, even when it comes to errands that involve food he obviously can't have, but he's going to be groggy when he first wakes up. You'll have to wait for him to get ready if you want company on your walk.

"If you're hungry, you don't have to wait for Louis to wake up." When you don't immediately respond, Armand continues, "I could go with you."

The offer, though unexpected, feels almost overwhelmingly genuine. It would be nice to be able to go with him now, but the sun is still peaking out from over the horizon. The sky is more pink and orange than anything else, but the thought of even the faintest rays of daylight touching his skin is nauseating.

Realistically, you know that he wouldn't risk going outside if he believed that there was any chance of him being hurt, but it's still not the easiest thing to accept. His 'sun tolerance' is too vague of a concept for you to fully embrace it.

"I won't burn." You blink, a little more surprised than you should be about him dismissing your unspoken concern. When you don't ease, he leans towards you, the set of his mouth morphing into what's almost a smile. "I promise."

You exhale, nodding once as you pull your hands away from the table. "Okay," you can feel your lips pull themselves into a smile that reflects his own, "Let's go."

Talamasca definitely has a file on bestie 😭 I just can't imagine them letting her go about her life with everything that she knows without regularly checking in.

As far as post divorce stalking, bestie would be SO okay with Armand stalking her. If anything, she would have been offended if he didn't because she knows that in his mind that's a way of showing affection. She's a lot less chill about Talamasca monitoring her.

I saw a video on tiktok where the op was basically saying that women in louis' life are often used for comfort and then become collateral damage (examples: lily, claudia) and I am curious on your thoughts of this, especially because in your universe louis now has bestie

This is so interesting and it touches on some points I've been thinking about. While I agree that there's a pattern of Louis leaning into the women in his life for emotional support just for them to become collateral damage later on, I definitely don't think it's intentional.

My thoughts on this got kind of long, so here's a cut:

I'm not trying to simplify Louis's character or his relationships (platonic and romantic), but there are moments in which this cycle of relying on a woman for emotional support just for her to later to either suffer directly or indirectly because of Louis reminds me a bit of having a close friend that's extremely romantic/male-centric. However, unlike the typical "boy crazy" friend I'm comparing him to as a way of making my point, I think that Louis emphasizes his romantic relationships because of the way that he tries to find/define himself through who he loves.

In short, I think that the issue isn't Louis not caring about these women, but rather the way that his desire to preserve romantic love sometimes leaves him incapable of recognizing the way that he's dismissing those that have been there for him outside of romantic relationships.

In terms of how this impacts his relationship with bestie, realistically, I don't think he's always going to be a perfect friend. In some ways, she's lucky that she met/bonded with Louis after he and Armand settled into the more comfortable, modern version of their relationship. Bestie isn't at risk at becoming collateral damage because Louis isn't being put into a position to have to pick bestie or her safety over someone he loves romantically.

Lestat coming back into Louis's life is going to be a challenge, because it's the first time bestie has to be around Louis while he's dealing with a volatile relationship that's yet to be redefined.

Don't worry about them, though. I do think what happened with Claudia has changed Louis enough for him to be more self aware. I also think the grief caused by her loss has made him even more afraid of losing someone else. I don't want Claudia to come off as nothing more than a cautionary tale, but I also can't not comment on how her existence/death has impacted Louis.

Also, there's a secondary subject that makes him extremely aware of how he (and other vampires) treat bestie: guilt. All of that internal angst and existential dread about being a vampire is amplified by the way that he sees bestie.

He genuinely believes that bestie is this wonderful person that can do no wrong and that his relationship with her is an inherently damaging thing. The only way that he can justify it to himself is by looking out for her and keeping her safe, so he's already consciously putting effort into not letting bestie become collateral damage.
