Cover letter to NASA
February 15, 2016
Mr. Charlie Bolden
Jet Propulsion Laboratory
4800 Oak Grove Dr
Pasadena, CA 91109
Dear Mr. Charlie Bolden,
It was one small step for a man that started everything but now we can take a huge leap into the future. Space is something mysterious that we try to hard to understand and learn all we came from it. With the job position posted on your website for a Supervisory Research Astrophysicist a lot of needed qualifications fall into place. So when it comes down to it you can not just hire anyone, you want to be sure that you get the best candidate for that job. In this letter I will inform you why I would be the best candidate for this job and how a great contribution I will be to the team.
For this job a lot of knowledge and experience is needed, being as that is I am currently finishing my bachelor's in culinary arts and planning on getting a Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado Boulder. There I will take all the recommended classes related to science and aerospace. In all my classes for that major, I managed to pass each class with a B or higher and graduated the university with a GPA higher than 3.50. During my time there I  know I will learn how to use many types of machinery. Also, I learn how to look for information and record any findings, with this knowledge it won't be hard to train me on getting started immediately.
Being part of your team will be a good asset for the company for a few reasons. Having a diverse workplace is something that has been becoming important to many people. Being a female Hispanic I can be another good addition to add diversity. Another reason why I will be a good addition to this company is because I have an open mind that will allow me to give reasonable theories and ideas of information discovered. Besides that, I am very energetic and will provide a great personality for the work environment.
Ever since I was young I always fascinated with space and all its mystery. My father would always tell me stories of all the things that could be out and space and nurtured my love for it and education. Having this job will not only hold NASA but it will allow me to have room to grow and learn about something I have always been so patient about. It is a huge step in the next chapter in my life that I strongly believe will benefit both me and the company
I hope I am taken into consideration for this job and that you have seen what a great asset I would be for this program. I am very excited to have found this opportunity and if given the chance I will make sure it gets nothing but the best. Thank you for your time and wish you the best with your decision
Sincerely,
Karely Santana

The Next Doorway
Imagine a door in space, what is on the other side is a mystery waiting to be explored. Just like a new door here on earth, we don’t know what on the other side. We don’t know what to expect or what future it might hold for us, it is all a mystery. Black holes are the unopened doors of space full of mystery and possibility. We all have our own opinion on what they might be and what opportunities they might hold. These mysteries are created when a star dies and collapses on itself creating a supernova. Eventually, over hundreds of years the gravity of the supernova will suck in everything next to it and in its path creating the black hole. Although they are difficult to approach from a distance we have managed to learn a few things from far away. But until we figure out a way to study them or somehow approach them without being sucked in all we can do it create theories and cross them off as new information passes by.
Obviously, there is a lot of science behind this event that we need to understand in order be able to correctly eliminate theories and get closer to the answer of what lies on the other side of a black hole. When it comes to studying black holes it starts off with darkness. No light can escape from its gravity making it impossible to look at or find. So then how do we study them? Even though they are invisible from the naked eye we are able to see and study them through x-rays, but even so our knowledge is sill limited. So what about them is so cool? The answer tot hat is simple EVERYTHING!

What was behind the wardrobe, a world full of mystical creatures and a life full of adventure. This is how the mystery of black holes started, as soon as we discovered them and saw what they can do it made us wonder what is on the other side. Are they just meant to destroy things or are they there to provide us with information that can help humanity or our planet? It's a door full of possibilities and answers. For now, we don’t know what lies behind it so all we can do is create different theories that will help us get to the answer. These theories are our building blocks that we can build off from when start learning new information. So it's best that we learn these theories and how they are or can be backed up by science.

The theories of a parallel universe are one of the most commonly heard out there. According to a National Geographic article, it talks about  how scientists believe that this theory is connected to the big bang and how instead of an explosion created out of nowhere  that we just came out of the other end of a black hole called a white hole. In their research, they talk about how the explosion of the black hole created some type of energy allows different universes to reside inside the black holes allowing there to be different parallel universes. In the article, they state,  “ There is, at least, one way to test Poplawski's theory: Some of our universe's black holes rotate, and if our universe was born inside a similarly revolving black hole, then our universe should have inherited the parent object's rotation.” (National Geographic)  With these new suggestions and math equations that support this thought, it does allow the idea of different universes to reside in the black holes. To represent this idea I chose a sad picture of Doctor Who where his favorite companion or lover got trapped in a parallel universe where he can't do anything to save her and bring her back. I find this picture to be perfect because those who know the show understand how complicated different universe are and how they can affect people and their lives
Tumblr media
"Lightspeed." Wookieepedia. N.p., n.d. Web. 07 Feb. 2016.
For the next theory of black holes, we need to enter hyperspace. In many movies like Star wars they always talk about entering into hyperspace but what exactly is it? When scientists talk about hyperspace, they see it as a short-cut or a bridge from one spot of the universe to another. Of course, this sounds impossible, but it has a bigger possibility than parallel universes. Scientists have discovered a way to prove this theory by attaching gravity to an ESO telescope. By doing this and observe the movement, they would be able to determine if it meets the qualities they set to qualify it as a wormhole, according to an article by Discovery. With the amount of evidence that can support this theory with this test, they will finally determine the answer or give us new information. If the theory ends up being true, how will the world react and how will we use this information to our advantage. To represent hyperspace and wormholes, the picture I found fit for this was a still of Han Solo and Chewie making the jump into hyperspace with their and our beloved millennium falcon. This picture Is a great to imagine how the future of transportation may look like and science.

Another theory that scientists have been close to figuring out is the idea of white holes. In an article by Universe Today, it talks and explains what a white hole is and what it does. According to them a white hole is the opposite if a black hole, black holes suck in everything in its path slowly destroying it. Now scientists believe that white holes shoot out everything a black hole took in. This theory is believed to be connected to the big bang theory ad how our universe came to be. As soon as a black hole reached its smallest form it reversed its self and created a white hole that shot  everything creating the materials and supplies it needed to create new life and planets. Although this theory seems to make sense and be easily supported the only problems scientists have to support this theory is mathematical equations based off of the theory of relativity. Since there is not enough information to back up this theory all they can do is wait till the right information shows up to put all the evidence together. For this the picture that I chose would go well with this theory is a Ying-Yang, My reason for choosing this is because I see it in a way of good and bad.Black holes take and destroy while white holes give and create. It’s a perfect balance!
Tumblr media
"Which Modern Male Doctor Who Companion Are You?" PlayBuzz. N.p., 28 July 2015. Web. 07 Feb. 2016.
With the last theory of black holes, it involves time travel. There has been some evidence that supports the idea that black holes affect time. In an article by Stephen Hawking he talks about If any object was able to avoid being sucked in by the black hole, it will give it the opportunity to settle into its orbit where time is manipulated. If here on earth we would look at a spaceship travel around a black hole it would take only 60 minutes, but if you were in the spacecraft it would only be 8 minutes. Although the information knows does not seem as fascinating what they are now thinking that sometime in the future they will be able to use black holes to travel. They are coming up with a new idea that if somehow they manage to use the energy of  a black hole they will be able to use that power to travel through time and space it is just a matter of time. With my picture, I chose Doctor Who, for those who don't know the Doctor who its about an alien that travels through time and space having adventures throughout the universe.
With the information we know so far, scientists and other people were able to create their own ideas of what might lay behind the unopened door. Some of those theories care silly and could be hard to consider but until we know more about these wonderful mysteries anything is possible. the information we know now and when we learn more we will be able to build off them and use it to help advance our planet. With the way black holes work anything is possible it's just a matter of keeping an open mind of all the different possibilities.

Genres poison
We see genre everywhere in our world, such as TV shows, video games  and movies. Different types of genres create the building for someone to catch the attention of a certain group of audience whether it be kids or adults. Every person is different so their attention goes towards a certain genre. For example children are attracted to Disney for many reasons whether it be the bright colors, the funny story lines or the music that ties everything together.
Tumblr media
In society today genre created the ability for different people to create their own identity and help others to find people they can really open up to. For example when it comes to the genre of animation and fantasy many people find it easy to connect to. It could be the main reason on why comic con is such a huge hit and makes thousands of dollars each year.
Tumblr media
Those type of people who are into fantasy found away to express themselves through this type of genre whether it being emotionally of physically to just have fun and be someone else for the day. This genre gives a lot of feedback to the authors, show writers, and animators, it gives them an idea of what they should work on next to create a bigger impact on their audience and really connect to them. The most popular example would be the Bronys that were created from the popular show My little pony's.
Tumblr media
With the readings we did in class, they are related in the way that they both talk about how different genres in media affect a person and how they think or act. These stories and genres are different in the way that one talks about a genre that is constantly changing.
Teenagers are the most affected when it comes to this as talked about in the front line videos, and it shows us how much power we have over media and media on us making it a constant cycle of useless.
Tumblr media
As for the other story you get the sense of already being sucked into the madness and not being able to escape due to the constant demand to make people happy and waste more money. With the story Jon it's written I the way that you can get the sense of unhappiness with the character and their actions. I believe this type of style is one that is meant to get the audience thinking of what really goes around them and their actions.
When I was reading these videos and stories it just really hit me on how different genres of media affect us and Brainwash us to be a certain type of way especially for women and girls since they are the most negatively portrayed. In a way this made me feel angry that it has such a huge impact on young kids that it make them think that only materialistic things matter
Tumblr media
As society has evolved so has social media, social media surrounds us and keeps us informed of what goes on or entertains us with what ever show fits our genre preference. In a way social media build our opinion people in a positive or negative way but those that are most effected by this are girls. Girls are not always being portrayed in a positive way, when you look at movie whether the genre is comedy, horror, or action or any type of adult shows you can see that there is a specific image of a girls always seen. Girls are always portrayed as tall, skinny, big cleavage and bottom, to the world this is the ideal women, what they expect girls to look or change to look like.
Tumblr media
On top of that they show that girls are not as smart as boys and should know their place in society and not try to be something else. Social media build an image of how girls ages suppose to look and act, they brain wash girls to not expect to go far and that looks are all that matters and not their knowledge.
Genres like animation have creators that make shows for little girls like My Little Pony to fight back those negative effects. These shows send messages to little girls on how to accept who they are,and be happy with who they are, and not try to change that because of someone else's opinion. But despite those messages being sent to them they don’t really tend to stick due to other type of media that drill it into their heads that they are suppose to act and look a certain type of way.
Tumblr media
These types of media and genre should be ignored, they send bad messages to girls and brain wash them to be someone they are not. The media that shows these type of genres are the ones i tend to back away from. What I prefer, are the ones who send a positive messages to girls my age and younger that don't pressure them to be a certain way or look a certain way. Those are the types I like to see because it creates freedom for girls and not pressure.
Tumblr media
Cartoons that are made for younger kids are the things I mostly enjoy to watch because it is what I can connect to they most. Disney shows and movies are the ones that really remind me that it's ok to be who I am and that k do t have to change due society's standards. It's those messages that help me create my identity and make me happy as a person with who I am. That's how I talk back and fight social media by refusing to follow their standards and being who I want to be and being proud of it

What if a little bit of patience can make one persons day?
Tumblr media
A NYC taxi driver shares an inspiring story about how he helped an elderly
women experience her past one more time, before taking her to a hospice
facility. He talks about how he learned a lesson in patience, and how making
one bad action could have lead to this women not enjoying her last moments.
This was a beautiful story that touched many people on the count of how
many shares  it got on Facebook. It would have been a wonderful story if it we
all completely true. The story you would find on Facebook is not the original
story, but one that has been tweaked to give another person credit. The
original writer is named Kent Nerburn a cab driver but now a well known writer;
who wrote many great books like The girl who sang to the buffalo and many
others. His story about the cab ride was posted in the website Zenmoments
where it gained popularity by other users of the site, and later on the whole
internet.
youtube
Like many victims in the world and internet Nerburns Story became the victim
of a internet hoaxes. Many people on the internet try to get likes and shares in
order to gain fame and popularity on websites like Facebook. Although the
story on Facebook was not completely wrong from the original, the Facebook
author took time to tweak and change somethings. For example in the original
story Nerburn described the old lady to be in her 80′s while the FB writer
described her to be in her 90′s. Another detail that dropped the ball for the FB
writer was the location of the story. In the original it took place in  Minneapolis,
Minnesota, while the FB version took place in New York City, New York. But
despite the location what really made you question if it was real or not was the
times and how they did not really match but to the location as mentioned by
Kevin Collier . It was this small  detail that had others wondering if the story
was real or just made up to gain some type of fame. Even though the story
was not half wrong it is still a hoax because it did not stick the the original story
and took credit from the original writer in other words plagiarism.
Tumblr media
When it comes to internet hoax like these, there are different types of people
and different types of reasons. The most obvious one are those who want likes
and fames on social media sites. They want to be the center of attention and
want the world to praise them.
Tumblr media
Others create them to create awareness for a cause or to start up a trend; for
example, scientist found that those who claim to be feminist are likely to vote
for Donald Trump. If this were to gain popularity people would be looking up
feminism and Donald Trump and then just let the internet do the rest.
Tumblr media
Then there are those who are plain mean and just want to make others look
bad for shear pleasure.
Tumblr media
Despite who wrote it or for what ever reason they all have one thing in
common, and that is the reaction people have from it. For the This internet
hoax in particular it ended up having a positive impact on people. it taught a
lesson to people about patience and how it can have a bigger impact then they
thought it would. It showed them how one ounce of patience can take them a
long way or make someone else day. This hoax made people think of the way
they behaved and how they acted toward others and if there is anything they
should try or think of changing.
Tumblr media
When it comes to peoples reactions it wont always have a positive reaction to it
there are different types of people in this world some will be mad about what
they read and seek out the truth.
Tumblr media
Others will be confused and not sure of whats going on,
Tumblr media
and then there are going to be those who just pain don't care even if its
something they are interested in. Either way its always important to check if
what you read is true before you choose to believe it or not,.
Tumblr media
Overall when it came to actually finding out the truth whether this story was
real or fake it did not really take me as long as i thought it would. At first
I started off by trying to figure out who posted they story on face book, but after
a few hours I did not have as much luck as I hope I would. So after giving up
my search on Facebook I turned over to google and to no surprise, I got loads
of sites. Many sites talked about how a good story it was and how it sent out a
good message others just posted the story. A few websites into my search
and I came across the article the Daily Dot that gave me all I needed to finish
this search. The Daily Dot was able to provided me with reasons on why this
post is fake. Besides giving me those facts what it was also able to give me
was the name of the actual author and where I could find the actual story. It
was then all easy as pie to put everything together and figure out what was
real and what was not. Figuring out this story was very easy but its not always
going to be sometimes it could take you days due to the lack of evidence or
how well someone covered their tracks; either way its important to find out the
truth before you decide to believe in something.
