Unpopular opinion: the way that the ghosts cbs fandom and show treats Trevor really bothers me sometimes. people can treat him as this uwu angel who did nothing wrong ever and was secretly totally misunderstood and while I agree he was better than his “bros” the bar isn’t very high. He made so many inappropriate comments towards Sam when they first met, objectifying and insulting her constantly even though she was married and clearly didn’t show any interest in him. He makes a lot of misogynistic and sexist remarks in general, which usually just get written off both in the show and in the fandom. In D&D he kept making comments about the US, in spite of Sasappis being pretty obviously uncomfortable with it and in the pilot he flicked Pete’s arrow - which is in his neck, the cause of his death, which Pete later says is usually pretty painful all on his own. (He has come a long way since season one though, but this post is more about how the fandom treats him, not his character.)
I also often see his trauma treated more seriously than the other ghosts. And again, don’t get me wrong, I agree he has trauma, but most of that stems from his death itself. But I saw a post earlier that said that Trevor is one who needs therapy the most and I was just baffled.
You’re telling me that the straight white-passing guy from 2000s needs therapy more than the gay man from the colonial era who for the longest time didn’t understand what was “wrong” with him, was unable to marry or be with a person he truly loved because it was illegal, was ridiculed and excluded by his peers at every turn, and had to fight in an awful war? You’re telling me that the straight white-passing guy from 2000s needs therapy more than the black woman who lived during the roaring twenties, in the US, through segregation, racism, sexism and was discriminated for her body type, who was fucking murdered? You’re telling me that the straight white-passing guy from 2000s needs therapy more than the Chilean woman in 1969 who made her way through law school only to drop out after losing her fiancee, got tricked into a cult, thought her brother was dead, and was ripped to shreds by bears and now spends her afterlife in a constant state of forgetting? You’re telling me that the straight white-passing guy from 2000s needs therapy more than the Viking warrior who was callously abandoned by his shipmates, his brothers, for reasons he never knew, who spent so much time wandering alone that he befriended a squirrel whom he later had to eat to survive and then spent another 500 years by himself again, as a ghost with no sort of explanation for what was happening to him? You’re telling me that the straight white-passing guy from 2000s needs therapy more than the Lenape man who died right before the biggest night of his life and was forced to watch the colonization of his land and the genocide of his people, unable to do anything, and having to live with his culture and history being erased? You’re telling me that the straight white-passing guy from 2000s needs therapy more than the woman from the 1800s who was married off in a land deal, raped by her cousin and then killed herself in a desperate attempt to save her son, only to watch him grow up and murder the woman who would become her best friend? No he doesn’t.
Honestly, to me, Trevor is one of the more boring characters, and the only reason he gets so much attention and sympathy both from the show and from the writers is bc he’s a straight white-passing man from the 2000s. I will not be taking criticisms at this time.

Y'know, I will say this, rewatching Ghosts just gets...more and more bittersweet the more I get brainrot over it.
And of all their deaths, I think in some ways Sasappis's death is the hardest, because he's just so young. You don't realize it at first ,because out of all the ghosts he's been around the longest after Thor, so he seems older and wiser and wittier than the others. But on a second watch-through you relaize...he's not mature, he's just jaded. He's been around longer than almost any of them, but other than Stephanie (who's rarely onscreen) he's the youngest of any of them too.
I mean, twenty-something years old, in love with this girl, on the verge of beginning his career, of chasing his dreams and being somebody and...
And then, for reasons we still don't know, it's all just over. Gone. And five hundred years later, he's still waiting for...something. Whatever his unfinished business is before he can move on.
And part of me just thinks like, what if his unfinished business is...everything. An entire life he never got to live. Even on top of the trauma of watching the American colonization happen right before his eyes and being unable to stop it, there's also just the fact that he was a guy in his early twenties who was in love with a girl and had hopes and a future, and now he's spent twenty times his own lifespan knowing he'll never, ever get to accomplish anything he ever wanted to, and even if he were to somehow be able to live again it wouldn't matter, because the world in which he could have done those things is gone. I mean, he talks in 2020s English more fluently than any of them. He's more mentally modern than everyone in the house, even Trevor. And part of me wonders if that's because of his eternal youth, and part of me wonders if that's because he knows better than any of them the world he lived in is gone, so there's no point in holding onto the past.
It's like he told Sam. It's not just about the tree. It's all just gone. And how in the hell do you go from being young and in love and about to get your big break and alive, to being centuries old and long, long dead, except you don't feel dead, you feel twenty-five. And you've felt twenty-five for five hundred years.

Some headcanons regarding TMNT physiology
Over the years, I have come up with some headcanons regarding how I believe the Ninja Turtles' bodies work. I thought that perhaps it might be nice to finally share them with all of you.
These don't apply to all the iterations, of course, but they are pretty well universal in my mind, and I tend to incorporate most of them into my fanfics.
The Turtles (like leatherback sea turtles, echidnas, and some dinosaurs) are mesotherms, meaning they are neither warm nor cold blooded. They are, instead, in a middle-ground: they internally generate heat, but not to a constant temperature. In the Turtles' case, they will shiver when cold, and their bodies will not shut down right away when the temperature dips too low, though they may lose some energy and find it hard to concentrate.
Unlike many other modern reptiles and amphibians, who have a three-chambered heart, the Turtles have four-chambered hearts (like mammals and dinosaurs) that are larger and stronger than average human hearts and located at the center of their chests.
While the average human blood capacity is around five liters, the Turtles have about seven. Much of the blood flows under the shell -- a remnant of their lives as ordinary turtles, whose own blood does so in order to warm them when they bask. This means that the Turtles could lose close to three liters of blood before dying, while a human would only be able to lose two.
Their blood is also highly efficient at clotting, but that also means that storing blood for transfusions is difficult, and so must be directly transfused from one turtle to another in emergency situations.
Owing to their extensive circulatory system, they also have a larger lung capacity than humans and more oxygen-rich blood, and so are able to hold their breath for extended periods of time without adverse effects. Other than this, the Turtles' respiratory system is very much like humans', utilizing a diaphragm to inflate and deflate their lungs.
Like regular turtles, they do not have ribs, but rather their carapaces and plastrons serve that purpose, and they have muscles under their shells that keep their internal organs right where they belong.
Also like regular turtles, their spines curve along the insides of their shells. A direct hit on the center of their shells, then, could cause damage to their spinal column and nervous system, but fortunately their vertebral shields offer a fair amount of protection, so it would take quite an impact.
The Turtles are highly resistant to most infections and diseases, which increases their immunological responses. They do not get sick easily, and they recover quickly.
While their scales are not apparent, they are integrated into their skin, making it tougher than human skin. It takes a very hard hit to raise a bruise, and it is difficult to cut through without a very sharp or pointed blade.
Their bones are similar to humans, but are more resistant to breaking. They also heal quicker and stronger if they are broken.
Their muscles are also very close to human-like, but they are stronger than an average human due to compensating for the extra weight they carry in their shells. Because of this, their ligaments and tendons are also tougher, and it is difficult for them to have a joint dislocated.
Their sense of smell is more acute than humans, but not to an extreme degree. They are also not as bothered by foul smells (though this has more to do with living in a sewer than their physiology).
Their eyes are a bit tougher and more resistant to damage than human eyes due to a protective membrane that covers them. They see a bit better than humans in dark places and underwater.
Their hearing is somewhat more attuned to lower frequencies than human hearing, and is not dependent on external ears but rather an internal auditory system (making direct damage to their hearing unlikely).
They are capable of being knocked unconscious, but it takes a significant impact. Permanent or lingering damage to their brains is unlikely due to their structure, and so they also do not tend to suffer the same side-effects that humans would in the same circumstances (nausea, memory loss, etc.).
Although their nutritional needs are similar to humans, they do not need to eat every day, and in fact can get by quite well without food for a week if necessary (though they won't enjoy it). When food is readily available, however, they will eat as much as possible to store up energy. Their metabolism does not slow down when they do not eat, so overexerting themselves when they haven't had any food for a while can burn them out suddenly.
Their sleep schedules are much like most diurnal animals, though they are able to stay awake for extended periods of time and can get by on little sleep, if necessary. There have been times when they have been awake for days on end, getting by on short one hour naps here and there. In general, though, they like to have a regular sleep/wake cycle.
Like other reptiles, the Turtles never stop growing throughout their lifetimes; however their growth is slow, topping off at about 1-2 inches every five years.
Does anyone have anything they would like to add to the list? I actually had fun compiling it!

Remember Mikey's touching speech in Samurai Tourist?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's strikes me that it's not just Leo that does this - taking on a role in the family so the others are free to do their own things. I'd argue they all do it.
Donnie almost entirely shoulders the maintenance and security of their lair (though I like to headcanon that the others help out with chores. We see Leo doing some welding in Tale of Master Yoshi, for example). This frees up his brothers to enjoy their hobbies - Mikey to read his comic books and play video games, Raph to tinker with his bike and hang out with Casey, and Leo to read and meditate.
Raph strikes me as the Guard or Shield of the family. Especially on missions, he's the one that watches their backs and keeps them all safe. Which leaves Leo free to focus on the strategy and overall logistics, Don free to let his big brain tick over the science and Intel they need, and Mikey free to bring some levity to the situation so the stress doesn't get on top of them.
And Mikey? I'd argue that Mikey's intentionally the goofball of the family. He's far from oblivious, as the above quote shows. I think he deliberately adopted the persona of the 'clown', in order to make his family smile and relieve the tension that having 3 very intense brothers tends to foster. Mikey's busy being the 'funny one', so his brothers don't become snowed under with their own heavy thoughts and self reflections.

Headcanons for all 4 TMNT:
• they all love kids but they collectively agree that babies aged 0-2 are the best
• can any of them handle spice? absolutely not. does it stop them? no.
• the only thing can all collectively agree on without much arguing is music
• all are surprisingly pretty good dancers
• they have all said "suck my dick" at some point (raph uses it the most)
• they all manspread
• nothing triggers any of them more than a spider
-raph won't go anywhere near the spider and refuses to be in the same room with it
-mikey's okay with the spider but doesn't want it touching him
-donnie will move the spider without killing it but won't touch the web
-leo will touch the spider to take it outside but the feeling freaks him out
• don't say the words "i bet you won't" cause boom there they all go
• at some point they have all referred to april as mom just to piss her off
• they all agree smores poptarts are superior
• they play with april's hair if she's sitting in front of them on the ground
• shark week is a whole thing
• thanksgiving and christmas are the turtle's favorite times of year
• they will all devour the deviled eggs and cranberry sauce
• mikey and raph will shamelessly walk in the bathroom when their brothers are showering
• leo and donnie are very guilty of leaving cupboards open in the middle of the night
• raph and leo have similar facial expressions when shit hits the fan
• mikey and donnie freak out if wet food touches them when they do the dishes
• leo and mikey both really like dr phil
• donnie and raph can't stand the taste of bananas
• do any of them truly enjoy horror? no. do they suffer through the movie anyway? yes.
• april has sat on their laps when there's been no seats
-leo is the most calm and just settles his hands where she directs
-raph is a bit more timid and keeps one hand on her waist
-donnie tries to keep his hands off her because he's awkward
-mikey just wraps his arms around her like it's a normal thing
• splinter still tells the boys stories when they can't sleep after a tough patrol
• splinter also checks on the boys every night when they go to bed
• the guys can all shotgun like it's no ones business
• they're all very protective of april and casey's child(ren)
-one time one of the kids came home crying saying another kid pushed them down and all 4 of them were fully prepared to go to war
-if the kid is taking a guy to homecoming or prom, the dude gets threatening texts and blocked phone calls
• when april and casey's child(ren) was born, all the guys cried
-leo very reluctantly let someone else have a turn holding the child(ren)
-raph has made the child(ren) a blanket as a gift when they're born
-donnie handles all the medical care for the child(ren) and april during and after birth
-mikey decorated the child(ren)'s nursery and baby shower(s)
• april gets random texts to settle dumb arguments between the brothers
• they all love adele
• they all sing in the shower
• don't bring nerf guns into the lair for the sake of splinter's sanity
• vine references are frequently thrown around the lair
• they've all watched 90 day fiancé and they all hate ed
• mikey is the only one who can get any of his brothers to cry from laughing
• leo may suck at comforting his brothers but they all seek him out for comfort anyway
• donnie's sleep schedule is the worst so when he falls asleep in his lab his brothers have each carried him to bed
• raph can't sleep properly unless he knows that his brothers are close by and he's seen them go to bed
• splinter will still sometimes tuck the boys into bed if he knows they've had a rough time
• all of them have cussed out casey and vern for saying the wrong thing about a brother
• they all hardly swear around april
• splinter has banned legos in the lair because the boys were using them as revenge against each other

Saying, “Your master taught you well but he did not teach you everything”
Would be such a blow to the 2012 TMNT boys that I almost want to make a whole fanfiction around it.
It would be double whammy for them if it came from one of the 2003 Turtles or the older RISE Turtles. They’d just be sparing and lightly bantering with the 2012 Turtles, but then accidentally stepped on a massive land mine.
That would be one lightning quick backtrack the moment they’d see the absolutely devastating looks on the four turtles’ faces.

Things that legitimately happened in TMNT 2012 that I still can’t believe actually happened:
Bigfoot exists and was a simp for Donnie
The sub joke
Donnie, Raph, April and Casey all got turned into vampires at some point
Irma losing her head (more than once)
Alopex chopping Tiger Claw’s freaking arm clean off
Mikey got betrayed by a Chuck Norris knockoff
April’s dad got mutated TWICE
Calling a human “normal” or “normie” is like a slur mutants use apparently??
April had her Dark Phoenix arc
Splinter has a literal giant ass hamster wheel that he uses on his spare time!
Raph is a masochist
Almost every turtle “died” then came back to life
Donnie got eaten by a car
Gilbert mother fucking Gottfried voiced one of the villains
Bigfoot and the Finger got MARRIED and had a KID!!
Raph Frenched kissed a mutant bug thinking it was his girlfriend
Raph got a girlfriend
Karai got half her face blown off but then just regenerated new flesh for her face like it was nothing and acted like it was a totally normal thing to do
Mikey befriended Napoleon Dynamite
Splinter got drunk and still kicked his sons’ asses in a sparring match
Leo cut Shredder’s head off in the S4 finale
The Turtles fought Satan and he was voice by MARK HAMILL
Leo crushed on his sister

i think there's something very interesting about the fact that irl, turtles aren't very social or familial in any sense but the ninja turtles are incredibly social and love caring for others and this is arguably the greatest example of their humanity

say what you want about 12!Splinter but imagine being a human mutated into a rat and then your pet turtles, who up until that point are truly just pet turtles you probably got 20 bucks buy one take one at the store, are also mutated with you. And now they have human posture and humanlike mannerism, and they are still technically your responsibility. Theres no manual for whats happening to them or even himself.
I would say it would be easy to ditch the dead weight and find a cure for himself, but we know by this point hes already made these pets his emotional anchor even before they were mutated. Do you think he knew they would grow up like humans did? Do you think he panicked when they got sick because there was no doctor to go to or medicine he could be 100% sure of? Do you think he worried they could get poisoned from certain foods like dogs with chocolate?
There were so many unknowns in raising them, what their future would look like, how long they would even live (do you think Splinter wondered about their lifespan?). And yet, Splinter still chooses to love them with all his heart and raise them like sons, like they would live and grow like normal humans do. Truly a guy that chose love and ran with it.

Ok since TMNTblr was incredibly helpful last time I had a fic request (I’m still digging through the fic recs guys I’m not even halfway done shdhdjdj) I figured I’d get y’all’s help again <3
I am in need of some 2012 TMNT fics, specifically I require the best Leo angst you have, I wanna see this guy get put through the wringer. Maybe some bad dad Splinter (I love him but the AU’s where he’s a horrible parent are just. So angsty. There’s so much potential for protective brothers-) and/or his brothers being jerks, and Leo’s just going through it and eventually snaps and his bros realize he is Not Okay™️ and that maybe being Splinter’s “favorite” isn’t a good thing-
Also I saw in a fic where the infamous sacrifice line was mentioned and realized that I may. Have interpreted it wrong this whole time? “The most important thing is that you complete your mission no matter what or who you must sacrifice” or something along the lines of that. Now see, this entire time I thought Splinter was telling Leo it’s fine if he sacrifices himself for the sake of completing the mission and/or saving everyone, but apparently most people took that to mean “hey yeah sacrifice your brothers if need be” which. MMMMM THE ANGST OK, but also WOW that is a take /pos how have I never thought of it like that omg
I’m just rotating this in my brain,,,, I need,,,, bad dad Splinter, and Leo doing his best to meet his impossible expectations and trying to protect his brothers from ending up like him, and RAPH — I NEED SOME GOOD BROTHER RAPH OKAY HE GETS A BAD REP BUT HE’S A GOOD BROTHER ALRIGHT — gimme some protective Raph, who’s a jerk at first and then maybe sees something he wasn’t supposed to and now he knows how bad it is for Leo and he’s about ready to throw hands with Splinter-
The 2012 Leo & Raph dynamic is something that is soooooo special to me- twins fr your honor
My favorite concept as well, and I just saw this in another fic last night it made me so giddy and reminded me of my Wildcard AU — Leo reminds Splinter more of Shredder than Raph does, but he’ll never tell them that, or maybe they find out by accident idk.
He’s always pitting the two of them against each other and I’m just. What if it’s not for the reasons we think. Leo isn’t the next Splinter and Raph isn’t the next Shredder, but Splinter sees so much of his brother in Leo and it terrifies him so since day one he’s made it his mission to train every ounce of Saki out of him but unknowingly might just be making it worse…
I have many thoughts about these two and none of them are coherent or organized in the slightest so sorry about that my bad

If TMNT 2012 had blood…
Leo’s fight with Shredder’s forces in season 2 is a great opportunity to practice fight wounds. this was my first try at it, and also sharp force due to Shredder’s final slash. maybe i’ll do another with a better frame.

thinking about shauna listening to jackie talk about jeff like he never even mattered when shauna is pregnant with his baby because she just wanted something jackie had and wanted to be wanted by someone who wanted jackie and now jackie doesnt even care anymore and shauna is stuck with this forever. and then jackie dies and then the baby dies but not before shauna has to give birth to him in the wilderness in winter surrounded by people who eat the dead and now fucking jeff sadecki is the last thing she has of either of them and what the hell is she supposed to do with that? she's stuck with him forever.
thinking about shauna beating lottie almost all the way to death to get all of that rage out of her and then when that rage is out of her they give her a knife and tell her to slit natalie's throat, and then when natalie runs and shauna is let off the hook for one thing for once they give her the knife again and tell her to cut up javi, the closest thing to a baby, so they can eat him, and now she's stuck with this, too. and all that rage she burned off didn't go anywhere, really. it's still right there.
and then im thinking about shauna watching lottie and everybody else crown natalie the queen for virtue of not dying, which is the same thing everybody has been doing, except for jackie and the baby and javi who all took chunks of shauna with them and left her with nothing but a knife.
im thinking about shauna who watches everybody gossip and laugh through the springtime knowing that when winter comes she will be the person who will have to cut them all up one by one so the rest of them can live and its very easy to see why she isnt friends with any of them anymore by then. she looks at them and she sees cuts of meat and how is she supposed to look at anybody normally ever again after that?
and its cruel, of course it is, everything she does to coach ben. it's not his fault, it's not about him at all, really, except that he is exactly the problem. he's innocent. he judges them. he sees what they have had to do to survive and pretends he never profited from any of it. pretends to be above it, uninvolved. he judges them. he judges her.
and shauna needs complicity from these people. she needs somebody else to know what it feels like to hold the knife. she needs people to be stuck with those guilty votes forever. tai with the gun and melissa with the knife and natalie at the butcher's table so that she's not the only one. and so ben is the sacrifice.
i saw somebody say that shauna doesnt want natalie to have to feel the pain of butchering a person, thats why she puts the cloth over his face. but that's not true. she *needs* natalie to know the pain of it, the guilt of it, the weight. The cloth is a lie she told herself would make it easier but she knows that Natalie is about to know what the inside of this man's joints look like either way and that she's going to be stuck knowing that forever.
they are going to be rescued someday and everybody will say "we did what we had to do to survive" and shauna needs to not be the only one who really has to mean that when she says it. and i guess she has that now. or she's about to.
