The Astrology of Ted Cruz

ok so I’m just learning astrology, having some fun with it, and am trying to practice how to do full chart readings. I’m looking at the chart of someone who clearly sucks, this is absolutely not a condemnation of any sign, house, or placement. It is just a look at how someone can take their natural talents and gifts and try to use them in a horrible way. I am also trying to use this as a way to reflect on how some people can be drawn to people I find detestable. I believe we pick our stars and we continue to pick who we are and who we want to be. With that disclaimer out of the way let’s take a look at this chart!

 Teddy is a libra ascendant and therefore has libra in the first house. Here he has his moon and Uranus. I love libra ascendants, but not this one. With his Uranus conjunct the ascendant here he may come off to some as weird and I mean this in a bad way, but with his moon in the first house he may SEEM emotionally intelligent. With the moon in libra he can become passive aggressive and may have an easy time misrepresenting what he truly wants to get what he wants. This placement generally wants harmony, but without careful work and practice I find that they go about it in nefarious ways. His moon and Uranus both square his mercury which makes me wonder if he often learns things that challenge his emotions and beliefs, but has a hard time internalizing what he learns. With this all going on in the first house I see how people could have very different reads on him. Some of us could be picking up on the Uranus more so than the moon sign, we see his bizarre callous actions like flying to Mexico while Texas was in crisis. Others notice the way he seems calm and logical in debates more thanks to his seemingly balanced libra moon. 

His second house is in Scorpio, and here we have a stellium consisting of mars, Venus (his chart ruler), and Jupiter so this house and the sign of Scorpio play a prominent role in his life. He obviously cares about his money and wealth which makes sense with a stellium in this house, and because Scorpio is here, for him, I’d say he is alright using unscrupulous means to get what he wants, like taking lots of lobbyist money. Since his Mars and Venus are both here it makes me wonder how he treats his wife and other partners. I won’t speculate on that, but I will relay a strange anecdote about his relationship I read somewhere. After coming home from their honey moon Ted went to the store and bought 100 cases of Campbell's chunky for he and his wife to live off of basically. She found it and returned them immediately, not being the sort to want to live off that and after called her mother in law to talk about it. Her mother in law made her cry and eventually she went out and repurchased the soup. This is a strange possession to care a lot about given as a strange gift by a weird dude. I guess maybe it was a strange attempt at romance? It makes a lot of sense to me that his Jupiter is here, even though I normally think of it more intellectually it is often called the planet of “expansion.” What does Ted want to expand? his wealth and power. How does he want to do it? By hook or by crook, and unfortunately for many that means death, change, and disenfranchisement, but Ted keeps himself safe. 

His third house is split between Sag and Capricorn with his Neptune and Sun here. Assuming his birth time is accurate (which is a little doubtful, but we’ll read it as is), these planets are both at critical degrees. His Neptune is in the first degree of Sagittarius and conjunct Jupiter. This seems to make him fanatical in his faith, and perhaps because of the conjunction with Jupiter it makes him want to expand the faith, to proselytize. He might feel as though he is on a crusade, and because of the fact its in the third house which is about how we communicate our own beliefs and personality this comes across loud and clear. His Sun is also here, but in Capricorn at 0,′ with several challenging aspects. At its worst this can make one cold and materialistic. His sun is square his ascendant so who who is at his core is counter to how he comes off.  It squares his Pluto and deeper darker nature. It is also in opposition to his midheaven which is in cancer, which may be why he uses a position in which he should serve others to serve himself. 

In the 4th house/IC we have Capricorn and mercury. People with Cap on the IC tend to have cool home lives and his relationship with his parents seems to reflect this. Also,

but that could be a one off. His Mercury is here and it is in good aspect with his Jupiter meaning he is intelligent, how he learns, and how he puts that knowledge together works well. However, it is square his Uranus so I wonder if this means when he is presented with new or strange information he struggles to internalize it. 

His North Node is in Aquarius in the 5th house. This node would normally be about moving away from focus on the self to focus on the group, but as it is in the 5th house which is frequently associated with the opposite sign and south node, Leo, so he may struggle to learn this lesson. 

His descendant is in Aries, I have no idea if he is extra attracted to Aries energy or not. His chiron is also here, although not pictured in the wheel, maybe this is why he can’t seem to grow a spine. 

His Saturn is in Taurus in the 8th house and in opposition to his Venus, Mars, and Jupiter. I’d suggest this means he feels very personally constrained in his anger, sensuality, and mind. Particularly though when it comes to sensuality. He wants to restrain the taboo and unknown, but the more he tries to repress it the weirder it gets. 

His midheaven is in cancer which makes sense as he works in public service.

In his 12th house and in Virgo at the 29th degree. This seems to make him afraid of change and self-aware about that. It conjuncts the ascent even though its in the 12th house, meaning even though it is hidden from him, we on the outside can see it.

libra rising a love letter part II

Aries in the seventh- I, me, we  

Aries is a highly individualist sign and for many libra risings it is in the seventh house which is highly representative of the relationships and partners. This may seem like a bad thing, and perhaps it could be looked at in a way in which they always tend to put themselves first, but I think for the most  part this is a very good placement. Due to being individualist, at least in the romantic sense, libra risings tend to know who they are and what they want in this regard. They tend to be very discerning in love and they are able to keep a strong sense of self in relationships.   

Tarsus in the 8th- Rebirth 

 Taurus is sedentary and slow, the cow is often seen as slow, and the eighth house is where things go to die. Still waters run deep in the eighth house. Where the calm stubborn nature of the cow meets the change demanded by the eighth house you tend to get natives who must learn to change and change constantly, but they might hate every second of it. They may want things to stay the same and consistent, for a long time they may refuse to look beneath the surface, but once they do and they let themselves grow, they tend to blossom. 

 Gemini in the 9th- fast minds 

The ninth house is all about higher learning, philosophy, and spirituality. I tend to associate it with Jupiter, this is normally called the planet of “expansion,” which is pretty vague. I tend to think of it more as an intellectual planet that deals with how you put the things you know together, and less about how you learn or what you pick up. I see the ninth house similarly, it is what you do with what you know, all the things you’ve picked up get put together here, the synthesis of information. For libra rising having gemini in this house seems to make them surprisingly logical. They see what’s put in front of them and either put them together or pick a side quickly. 

cancer in the tenth/mc- heart in their career 

With cancer at the top of the chart, the most publicly visible part, these guys come across as big sweeties in a group and professionally. Many of them need to pick careers in which they will be serving others, particularly working on behalf of groups. Think about union organizing, public law, and even some forms of performance. They may be drawn to working in non-profits. Be careful with this libra rising, you may want to help, but this may drain you. Know your limits. 

Leo in the eleventh-  extroverted introverts 

The eleventh house obviously follows the angular tenth house, so like the tenth it also deals with how one interacts with groups of people. How you communicate when in a crowd. People with this placement may enjoy performance like those with leo on the midheaven particularly with strong planetary placements here. In groups these guys may not necessarily like to be the center of attention, but they do want to be noticed. Combined with more austere sings in earlier houses though I think they tend to seek out more attention then they can handle from crowds, sometimes leaving them to exhausted to have room at home. 

Virgo in the twelfth- spotless subconscious  

Although they may be messy, libra risings tend to have a bit of a desire for perfection. They don’t always realize how much they’re asking for though. This is hidden from them, they can’t figure out why they’re so discontent when things aren’t perfect unless they’re very careful.

I know this will bother unhealed adults, but the real world, more often than not, does give you second chances and do overs. Very rarely are things set in stone. And people, especially young people, deserve to know that. Because lording the idea that they can never mess up, even once, does a lot more damage than good.

Chiron

I’ve been really interested in Chiron recently, but it has been a little hard to ask people about how they feel about their Chiron placements without feeling really intrusive. I might write a little about each and ask to see if it resonates with people or if it feels off base? I need to make sure I don’t take it super far, but when looking at people’s charts I’m fascinated I just have no idea how hard is too hard to push when looking at it.

Libra rising; a love letter Part 1

God I know so many libra risings. I wonder if that's because I have 0 libra in my chart and therefore I'm trying to find that in other people. I never really get the mood boards I've seen for them, most of the ones I know are goths and not super girly at all! They do seem to love style and fashion, but tend to have very unique and individualistic takes on those things. I also think it is a more difficult placement than people tend to point out because Libra is the opposite of Aries where the ascendant seems to want to be making the rest of the houses fall in the opposite sign from their rulership, unless there is some type of chart distortion. The way it flips things, and in particular puts Capricorn on the IC and Cancer on the MC seems to make them publicly incredible people, but they expend so much energy pleasing the public their intimate lives can suffer. 

Libra in the first house- intentional impressions 

  With Venus as a heavy influence on the chart they do care about aesthetics and how they signal, they tend to be very aware of the message their appearance and presentation sends. That being said, they may not care to be in any way traditionally “beautiful” and may in fact rebel from those standards, but it is NOT because they don’t care enough to put the work in. They want to be seen and they want to control their image. (Do not use astrology to predicate gender identity.) I know many libra risings who are gender non-conforming or nonbinary and often work hard to appear in a way that fits their gender identity and intentionally signal who they are in a world that would really rather tilt the scales more heavily to one side or the other. 

Scorpio second house- build and rebuild 

The second house is comfortable in Taurus and stable and slow builder, but libra rising will likely put this house into the sign of Scorpio where we deal with death, sex, rebirth, and most importantly here change.  All the Libra risings I know constantly check their bank accounts making sure there is enough in there to make them feel secure, whether or not they have known scarcity. It does not matter if they have never not had enough, they need to know they’ve got it and can provide for themselves, but no matter how hard they try and no matter how much money is in there they fear it will be taken from them and they will need to build back up. They absolutely are capable of building things back after disasters, but they hate dealing with that change. Everyone wants the security of wealth and objects but they really do NEED it. I think as they get older they tend to learn that some times are feast times and some times are lean and they get better at dealing with uncertainty, particularly if there are planets here, but they would really like that money to make them feel secure. 

 Sagittarius third house- Heels over Head 

The third house is about communication and is ruled by Gemini, but libra rising have Sag here, putting the legs where the arms should be. None of the libra risings I know have heavy placements here, or they have chart distortions changing this placement so I have fewer thoughts on this house. Just watch out for foot in mouth disease with the gemini sag switch! 

 Capricorn in the fourth house/ IC- A cold house 

This is a little tricky, this house placement makes me feel a little sad, the fourth house wants to be in cancer, but for libra rising it falls in Capricorn. This means that home and family life seems to be a struggle for you, your relationship with your parents could be strained and you may need to find extra nurture and love outside of the home. With this placement you may need to find your family or work hard with the family you were born with to get the love you need and want from them. You have to work hard to make or find a safe place for yourself, but you can do it. Make sure you ask people for what you need, particularly people close to you because they may not always know what you need or want.

Fifth house Aquarius- Weirdos in a weird time 

Even if they don’t have any personal placements here Gen Z libra risings will likely have a few generational planets in this house, and therefor, a little extra Aquarian influence. Aquarius is where you’re weird and the fifth house represents the Sun, children, pleasure, and performance. This is another house that makes Libra risings come off a little odd to the rest of the world because it is the visible version of the family and personal life. Libra risings may have odd ways of finding pleasure and passion as well as odd views on family life due to their potentially cold upbringing represented by the 4th house. (Cumberbatch is a libra rising, and this is my first post on tumblr since back in the day when I was a teenager, had to bring some of that back.)   

The sixth house in Pisces- Gut feelings 

Emotionally constipated? Not at all, putting Pisces in the house of Virgo, the house of health and service brings a lot of empathy to these people. I think sometimes they can get a little overwhelmed by just how much they feel for others, but once they figure it out and calm down they can be very diplomatic and very emotionally supportive. They might not make you tea, but they will let you cry on their shoulder.
