Things to Say to Someone in Top Drop/Dom Drop
I’m okay
I love you
Thank you
It’s alright
I’m not hurt
I’m not hurt too badly
You’re lovely/wonderful/kind
I enjoyed it
It was worth it
Take your time
Do you need anything?
Do you want a cuddle?
Do you want me to get dressed/take the collar off/put the crop away?
Do you want to talk about it?
I’m here
You’re not a bad person
Top drop/dom drop usually comes from shock, guilt or insecurity about the way you have just treated someone whose well-being you care about very much. Like sub drop, it is usually accompanied by a fall in endorphins and general energy levels. Especially for aces (who I find have a greater need to be in the right mindset/’zone’ for play and intimacy), a ‘snap’ moment where you break out of play mode can throw you emotionally, and the end of play causes a similar reassessment or double-take at what happened during the scene.
Dominants in drop require the same kind of care as subs, but a different kind of reassurance.

daily affirmations:
i am kind
i am in control of my emotions
it does not bother me when someone is in the kitchen while i was planning to be in there alone
everyone in the house has the right to be in the kitchen
i am kind and in control of my emotions even when someone is in the kitchen while i was planning to be in there alone

For the longest time I opted on the side of "no coffee, potatoes, etc" in fantasy writing, on the argument that if I was writing a pseudo-european medieval story, featuring elements brought to Europe by colonialism would imply the existence of colonialism, and if I was going to include that kind of elements, I could not just mention them casually, it would have to be a major theme of the story.
Then I scrolled past a post on tumblr specifically about "can you have potatoes in a fantasy setting for no reason" that had pics of Peruvian potato farmers and asked "are you really too much of a coward to not write these people into your stories?" (the tone was probably not that accusative, I paraphrase from my own perspective of this), and something clicked in my head, and this epiphany manifested in my head as Gordon Ramsay yelling
"IT WAS NOT THE FUCKING COLONIALISM THAT INVENTED THE FUCKING POTATO."

I hate that cutesy running joke meme trend of gatekeeping restaurants you like. Posting a picture of some amazing dish and when someone asks you for the restaurant going like "sorry uwu the place exploded" as an excuse not to tell because you want to keep it all to yourself.
Like what kind of a pointless vermin are you? Even a tapeworm wishes good health and long life for the host it feeds off from. If the place you frequent has no other patrons, it will go under and then you won't get their dishes, either.
Are you somehow unaware that the best way to have friends in high places is to uplift the ones that you already have?

for the record, having an abusive and/or neglectful childhood is a source of stress that follows many people through adulthood. if unsolicited book recs are welcome, 'adult children of emotionally immature parents' and 'controlling people' have both been really helpful for me
I've read the former one before, and yeah that's probably it.
I hate it how no matter how good of a life you can make for yourself, you can still be miserable because your parents were miserable people who refused to make their lives better.

There’s already been endless wars waged against fat and carbs. I’m just waiting for protein’s turn to be demonized for no reason.

at a conference I attended recently, a researcher pointed to the difficulty of finding material in archives because so much depends on the metadata and the terminology used to describe things changes over time. "it would be so helpful," the researcher said, "if I typed 'lesbian' into the library of congress database, it would also show me results that were categorised in the 50s, when the materials were interpreted as 'intimate female friendships'"
which is what tag wrangles at Archive Of Our Own do incredibly effectively: searching for "omegaverse" also leads to "alpha/beta/omega dynamics" and "alternate universe: a/b/o" and so on. but ao3 achieves this frankly incredible categorisation and indexing system by the power of countless volunteers putting in hours and hours of unpaid and unthanked free time, and it's completely understandable that most archives do not have that kind of infrastructure, but also how incredible that a fan-run website has better searchability, classification, and accessibility than the library of congress
