Knife brand collection(not all) (2)
I have already introduced some tool brands before, today I will continue to add
Columbia River Knife & Tool
Tumblr media
CRKT Knives (Columbia River Knife & Tool). Oregon-based CRKT is a brand that crafts high-quality knives at an affordable price point. Popular designs are available from Ken Onion, Lucas Burnley, Jesper Voxnaes, and more while CRKT’s Forged By War series is 100% designed by Veterans.
CRKT knives earned a reputation for making inexpensive knives that don’t feel cheap, with fresh designs that (for the most part) rotate in and out quickly. Here is our list of the best CRKT knives, a mix of long term favorites and newer designs.
Case Knives
Tumblr media
A case knife is used at the dinner table, to cut soft and prepared foods, and even tender meats without requiring a steak knife.
What’s unique about Case knives is that they stamp each blade with a special tang marking that can be used to identify the knife and production date. This is of great appeal to collectors and hobbyists and Case boasts the largest knife collecting association in the world with almost 20,000 members.
The fact that Case made it easy to ID knives from the tang stamps is one of the reasons people love collecting them. In certain decades, the stamp features 10 dots or stars and one is removed each year. Case has this laid out for you in the education portion of their site so you can easily ID the tangs.
Condor Knife and Tool
Tumblr media
Condor knife is built out of a durable 1075 high carbon steel and a hardwood handle, making it both quality in its build and classic in its appearance. Overall, if you’re looking for a cheaper bushcraft Condor knife that lacks the features found on the higher-end models, this is a good option.
Condor Woodlaw Knife Pros:
4″ blade is convenient.
Ships with high-quality leather sheath.
Durable 1075 high carbon steel construction.
3mm blade width is good for more precise work.
Micarta handle offers good traction.
Condor is a good brands of knives, and condor knives are popular because their blades are suitable for a wide variety of different purposes (such as hiking, camping, hunting, home use, and bushcraft), are well-built.
EDC Knives
Tumblr media
The benefits of having an edc knife
Handy: Easy and safe to carry.
Compact: Easily fit in the pocket.
Durable: Can be used for long term.
High-strength: Ensure maximum satisfaction and operability.
Lightweight: Offer an unencumbered feel.
Ergonomic design: Perfect for heavy-duty tasks.
Why is it good to carry a pocket knife?
Making Fires: A good knife makes fire preparation a much easier and faster task, particularly in poor weather. Even in the wettest conditions, you’ll still be able to find dry wood inside upright, dead branches and trees. A pocket knife allows you to access it, prepare tinder and even spark a fire into life.
Sometimes roads are slick, embankments are steep, conditions are unfavorable, and catastrophe lurks. In the case that adversity does befall you, a pocket knife can serve as a survival tool. You can slice through a seatbelt to pull someone from wreckage or cut through fabric to dress a wound.
German Kitchen Knives
Tumblr media
Most of the world’s top class pocket, hunting and different kinds of speciality knives are manufactured by German companies.
One thing that every German knife user will probably agree on is the precise, careful craftsmanship of the top German knife manufacturers, resulting in knives which are distinctive and perhaps almost completely flawless. For instance, consider a fixed blade German knife with glimmering stag or perfect wood handle scales seamlessly fitted, without any gap between the tang and scales, or a brass or nickel silver finger guard perfectly shaped and greatly polished with no filing, sanding or grinding marks visible, coupled with a pristine Solingen steel blade for a precise shave that has no accidental score visible anywhere on it. An elite quality German knife is actually a work of art, manufactured by adept professionals who feel extremely proud of the work they perform and the knives they develop. The famous Solingen city in Germany boasts of the longest history associated with the production of top class knives and cutlery.
Features
As German knives are one of the most prevalent ones, it’s wise to clearly understand the key features of them. Whether you’re a professional or beginner chef, a German knife is perhaps your best bet in the kitchen.
German knives usually come with a full length tang and a bolster.
The steel used in German knives usually has ratings between 56 and 58 on the Rockwell hardness scale.
The blade grind of a German knife is symmetrical.
The thick piece of steel or the bolster of the knife is located right before its handle.
A German knife comes with an angle of 20 to 22 degrees.
Though weight differs from blade to blade, a German knife tends to be heavyweight. For instance, a Wusthof 8 inch chef’s knife weighs around 9.6 ounces.
Thicker, heavier German knives empower you to perform robust chores more conveniently.
Don’t require regular maintenance such as weekly cleaning or annual sharpening.
Dishwater safe.
German knife producers have been manufacturing premium knives since the 19th century and these unique features are perhaps the key reasons why chefs across the world prefer German knives.
Damascus Knife
Tumblr media
What are the advantages of a Damascus blade?
In the cold weapon era, having a Damascus sword means you will have a higher rate of survival when you are facing with the enemy. This is because of its superior toughness, sharp cutting edge and the surface characteristic of watered silk or damask like swirled pattern.
Why is it called Damascus steel?
Damascus steel was a type of steel used for manufacturing blades in the Near East made with wootz steel imported from India. … Such blades were reputed to be tough, resistant to shattering and capable of being honed to a sharp, resilient edge. The steel is named after Damascus, a city in Syria.
What is special about Damascus steel?
D. Damascus steel is a famed type of steel recognizable by the watery or wavy light and dark pattern of the metal. Aside from being beautiful, Damascus steel is valued because it maintains a keen edge, yet is hard and flexible. Weapons made from Damascus steel are vastly superior to weapons formed from iron!
What are Damascus knives used for?
A Damascus steel blade, as you know, features waves of steel alloy, which meet at the edge of the knife and determine the cutting performance of the blade. This means they will be specifically manipulated for the intended purpose – hunting, fishing, cooking, etc.
Santoku Knives
Tumblr media
Do you know the advantages of santoku knife?
A Santoku knife is ideally suited to precision work thanks to the light, narrow blade, which can make thinner cuts, as less food has to be pushed out of the way as the blade makes each slice. Japanese knives require a different technique to Western knives in that they slice through food in a forward and backward motion, rather than Western knives which require a rocking motion, which generally creates thicker slices and takes longer to cut than the quicker Santoku blade.

A serrated knife or a non-serrated knife :which one is better
One of the questions we get a lot is whether plain or serrated blades are best when shopping for a new knife. The physical differences are obvious, but the answer to which is better is considerably more complicated; it depends on what you’ll be using the blade for and in what situations. Read on to learn more about the serrated knife vs. straight edge knife debate and which one you should add to your collection.
Whether the knife has serrations depends on the specific type of knife. Today we will analyze the steak knife
Let’s first take a look at the difference between a plain blade and a serrated blade.
Tumblr media
Plain Blade Knives
Plain edge knives – blades that have one continuous sharp edge – are far more traditional. They serve a much wider purpose for EDC, outdoor and tactical operations. Their most useful application is what most of us think of when we think of using a knife: a strong, steady pressure. This design has been proven for centuries to provide precision and control in a variety of environments.
Another key advantage of a plain edge blade is that it doesn’t snag or fray when cutting through some ropes and cables. A plain edge almost always cuts cleanly. However, with other ropes, such as those made of plastics or other synthetic materials, the blade may simply slip instead of cut. Sharpening these blades is generally easier, though it can depend on the type of material used for the blade.
Serrated Blade
Serrated edges are blades that have some kind of toothed or saw-like edge ground into the cutting surface. These are intended to be used much like a small saw with a back-and-forth motion. They’re great for cutting through belts and ropes, fabric and various other textured materials. Serrated blades also work great on substances that are soft, flexible or can be crushed easily with downward cutting. Great examples of materials that work well with a serrated knife are bread, cooked meats, soft fruits and vegetables.
Tumblr media
The downside to the serrated blade is that they can easily cause fraying, especially with ropes and fabrics. In addition, when the blade dulls, it’s much more difficult to sharpen and requires specialty sharpening equipment. A serrated blade does not cut as cleanly as a plain edge knife. Often, sharpening requires taking the blade to a professional sharpener, especially if the sharpening is long overdue.
Serrated Steak Knives
When it comes to steak knives, it is serrated knives you are likely the most familiar with. The majority of people tend to assume that serrated steak knives are the best option. While this may be the case for some knives, this is not true for all knives.
If you are unsure of what serrated steak knives are, they are essentially knives that do have an uneven edge. These edges can also be referred to as scallops, and some knives will be more serrated than others. This is done deliberately as the serrated edges ensure that it is easier to cut through certain types of food.
While serrated knives are commonly associated with being used to cut steaks, there are a number of different types of serrated knives. For example, bread knives are serrated too as this ensures that you can cut through the bread easily without it being ruined.
Serrated knives allow you to cut through things more smoothly. While this may not seem the case as the edges are uneven rather than straight, this is what allows for easier cutting. When a knife has a straight edge, this can actually make it more difficult to begin cutting through certain types of food.
Tumblr media
However, a serrated knife almost causes a tear, and the way in which it cuts the meat at slightly different positions, allows a person to cut through it easier. In addition to this, serrated knives do typically stay sharper for longer due to the shape of the edges.
When it comes to sharpening a serrated knife, even though they do not need to be sharpened as often, it is more difficult to do. This is because one edge of the knife is thicker than the other so it cannot be sharpened evenly. Given this, you will need to use a sharpening rod for the best results.
Overall, given how easy it is to use a serrated knife for cutting meat, it is easy to see why it is the preferred option for many.
Non-Serrated Steak Knives
While serrated steak knives are a popular choice in many restaurants and for many people, non-serrated steak knives remain a firm favorite with others. As the name suggests, non-serrated steak knives are very different to their serrated counterparts. Instead of having an uneven edge, they have a sharp straight edge.
This straight edge means that they cut through the steak cleanly, and do not cause tears like serrated knives do. This type of cutting causes mixed opinions with steak enthusiasts because typically they can be more difficult to use.
Tumblr media
However, as they cut the steak cleanly, they do keep more juices within the meat. While some people are not bothered by this, it is a dealbreaker for others. Although they are seen as slightly more difficult to use on the whole, cutting steak is still easy with non-serrated knives.
The only thing you will need to be aware of with non-serrated knives is that they do require sharpening more often than serrated knives. This is due to their shape and how the knife edge is used.
While this may be off putting for some people, this does not take long to do, and it is an easy task. When you compare knife sharpening for non-serrated knives, this is a far quicker process than with serrated knives, and you can use a regular blade sharpener too.
Final Verdict
The debate about serrated vs. non serrated steak knife really boils down to personal preference because there are people who prefer cutting their steaks with the former while many others like the latter.
However, if you really are to narrow it down to one of the knives, the non-serrated steak knives might just have a bit of an edge over the serrated ones because they require minimal efforts for cutting steaks and they also keep all the meaty juices and flavors of the steak intact!
I will introduce two knives below

Description
The Shun Premier Grey Bread Knife will be one of the most-used knives in your kitchen, if you bake or buy whole loaves of bread. Whether you love wonderfully crusty or delicately tender bread, the Shun Premier Bread Knife will be your loaf's new best friend, no matter what texture of bread. The key is Shun's razor-sharp, wide, "low frequency" serrations. Unlike a plain-edged knife, the serrations let you gently saw through the bread without crushing and with much less crumbing. Unlike saw-tooth serrations that are spaced closer together, the Shun Premier Bread Knife's wide serrations will gently glide through the bread without tearing. This keeps the bread's texture intact and enhances eating pleasure. Cakes and pastries also benefit from the Shun Premier Bread Knife's smooth cutting capabilities.
The Shun Premier Grey line calls to mind as the hand-forged knives of ancient Japan. While each knife still takes at least 100 handcrafted steps to complete, the materials Shun uses are among the most advanced in the industry. Each blade has a cutting core of Shun's proprietary VG-MAX "super steel" to take and hold a precision edge. The layered Damascus cladding supports the core and provides additional stain resistance. Near the edge of the blade where the steels meet, an undulating line is formed, similar to samurai swords using a traditional clay-baking technique. The hammered tsuchime finish acts like a series of hollow-ground cavities to reduce drag. The grey PakkaWood handles nestle comfortably in the hand, while the embossed end cap adds balance and beauty. Handcrafted in Seki, Japan with a limited lifetime warranty.

Why Every Kitchen Needs One Bread Knife . More than one purpose
A bread knife is a specialty knife designed to cut through the bread crust without compressing its soft interior in the process.  The key design point is the frequency and width of the serrations.  In some cases there is a straight blade section on either end of the bread knife with a longer serrated section in the middle.  Serrated bread knives are often ground on only one side – called a single-bevel blade.  Low-frequency serrations – lower number and wider spacing of teeth – help the blades glide through bread quickly and cleanly.  What is a bread knife good at cutting ? Basically anything with a hard skin or crust.
We understand the bread knife from several aspects
Tumblr media
KNIFE BLADE SHAPE
A bread knife is shaped similar to the Santoku knife with 2 differences – it is serrated teeth and is much longer.  The idea behind the length of the blade is it allows the cook to cut large surfaces in long, smooth strokes – much like a saw in carpentry.  The serrated teeth help the knife grip the bread’s surface, keeping it straight and steady without having to apply downward pressure that might compress the loaf.
The Best Bread Knife: Pointed vs. Scalloped Edges
Ah the bread knife – that one with the long blade that everyone thinks is reserved for, you know, bread. This type of kitchen knife usually comes with saw-like points or notches along the cutting edge of the blade. This design enables the knife to slice, or really saw through, foods with tough exteriors and delicate interiors, like crusty loaves of bread, of course.
Using a bread knife usually involves exerting more force while slicing, which divides the pressure between the serrations on the blade. The number, shape and overall sharpness of the serrations also differ from bread knife to bread knife, offering two different cutting edges: pointed vs. scalloped.
BREAD KNIFE SIZE
Bread knives come in length varying from 6″ to 14″ – the right size depends on what you will be cutting most frequently.  For the average home cook an 8″ (20 cm) blade is the right length as it is long enough to cut though most large breads yet short enough to control easily.  If the blade is too long it may flex while cutting – making cutting straight difficult for home cooks.
Tumblr media
Can Serrated Bread Knives be Sharpened?
Nothing good lasts forever, and like all knives, serrated edges will also wear down and dull over time. Not to fret though, it is in fact possible to restore your serrated bread knife back to working condition.
However, sharpening a serrated bread knife is trickier than sharpening a straight-edged chef’s knife. The serrated edges are usually only sharpened on one side and have to be sharpened at the specific angle specified by the brand, making it a lot more difficult for a home cooking enthusiast to navigate.
Destroying your new knife because you don’t have the necessary skills to properly sharpen it is not very cost effective – and throwing away knives is both scary and wasteful. Your best bet for maintaining the cutting edge of your bread knife is to first invest in a quality bread knife and leave the sharpening process to the professionals.
What is a Bread Knife Used For?
This might be obvious, but you can use a bread knife to slice all kinds of breads, from baguettes and brioche to bagels and biscuits. It’s also the perfect tool for shaping and leveling cakes for decorating, along with cutting delicate slices to serve.
Tougher foods are no match for a bread knife either. Melons and squash, which can trap straight-edged knives and pose a cutting hazard to cooks, are easily sliced with a long bread knife. Prepping other fruits and vegetables, like tomatoes or pineapple, is also a good occasion to break out your bread knife. In a pinch, it can even be used to slice meatloaf and carve roasts!
While you may not use a bread knife as often as the other knives in your set, it’s still a valuable tool to add to your collection. There are countless recipes, snacks and sandwich platters that call for the use of many different types of bread. And although a chef’s knife may work well enough, it falls noticeably short when slicing through crusty loaves and other foods that require a serrated knife.
What I want to tell you is: the bread knife is more than just cutting bread.
Tumblr media
Let me tell you other uses of it
For Sweets
If you’re a home cook with a sweet tooth, you’ll definitely want to keep a bread knife on hand. Just as with savory baked goods, there are many reasons to break out the bread knife for sweets, from cakes to pastries. Not only does it easily slice through the delicate sponge of a cake, its blade is also longer than most other kitchen knives, meaning you can slice through the entire layer in just one pass. If you do a lot of cake work, look for a bread knife with a more rounded handle so it’s comfortable to hold horizontally when leveling cakes.
You can also use a bread knife to prepare some of the accompanying ingredients for your sweet treats. It’s especially well-suited for breaking up blocks of baking chocolate, which is brittle and may snap under the pressure of a straight-edged knife. Use a bread knife to easily cut the chocolate into small, manageable pieces suitable for melting or mixing into doughs and batters.
For Fruits and Vegetables
A serrated knife is good at one thing – cutting without downward pressure. That one trait makes the bread knife useful for both squishy, delicate foods and very firm, tough foods. Use it to cut perfect slices from soft fruits and vegetables like tomatoes or citrus without covering your cutting board in juices. It’s also perfect for cutting up a pineapple.

It's perfect for trimming the silver skin from a tenderloin or roast or even making your own cutlets. The narrow blade reduces the drag as you cut against the meat, so cutting is fast and easy. When it comes to filleting fish, the blade's length is just right to glide through the body of the fish, quickly removing bones and skin.
The Shun Classic line features beautiful Damascus-clad blades with D-shaped ebony PakkaWood handles. The razor-sharp blades offer top performance. Shun's proprietary high-performance VG-MAX steel provides incredible edge retention. Blades are handcrafted of durable clad with Damascus stainless steel, ground and bead-blasted creating a flowing pattern of the layered steel. The result is a line of knives that are sharp, durable, and corrosion resistant, as well as beautiful to hold. Handcrafted in Seki, Japan with a limited lifetime warranty.
