( muse update! )
she is now the news announcer for kbs nine o’clock news. it’s the flagship newscast, so yeah kind of a major deal.
her parents have called off plan for engagement with park minjae due to reasons. doesn’t mean they’ve given up trying to play matchmakers though.
in the end of december, she went to st. barts for vacation on a whim. new years eve. beach. too many bottles of prosecco. let’s say a rendezvous definitely happened.
her visit to her parents’ has become less frequent. her excuse is work but really it’s because she can’t look at her mom the same way after what she had learned from her oldest step-brother.
quite a few people i plotted with left, so there are a lot of open plots to be filled. let me know if any of these interested you!

There is something moon soaked and dawn flavoured about her. Something kissed by the wild and loved by lightning. She looks like Artemis after a night of storm hunting. She looks like the sun as it rises after kissing the dawn.

247chaewon:
There was a big chance her mother didn’t pass the message to her ex-fiancé, but she wasn’t going to take back her words now she finally told her mother her true feelings about it. “I haven’t told you, but last month someone came to Moonlight to ask me for money for some old debt of my father, quite violently to be honest. If Wonshik hasn’t appeared out of nowhere to help me, I don’t even know… I’m sick of this mess and the engagement is part of this, so I can’t do it anymore.” Yijoo was her other half, yet it was difficult for Chaewon to talk about this even with her. “Then this photographer friend of mine asked me to join him on his trip and I only grabbed my wallet and left. It’s insane, I know, but for the first time in a decade I felt free because I could forget about everything. I had the best days, but now I have to fix it.” Shrugging, she sighed heavily. After opening up about the last events, it felt like a train hit her.
It was something Yijoo had been contemplated, she knew she have to choose her action carefully. When she first learned of the truth from Kijoon, she was livid. She almost grabbed her phone to call her mother dearest, but her brother talked her out of it. He was right. It was best to remain oblivious in front of their conniving mother. “Until I figure out how she’s going to play the card, I’ll continue to smile and pretend I don’t know anything.” She had already imagined all kinds of ways that her mother would use the information against her. Like threatening her to go through an unwanted engagement. At that thought, her mind drifted to Park Minjae immediately; at least she knew her mother might not have to resort to that since she wasn’t entirely against the idea of being his fiancée.
Being born into the upper crust, Yijoo was fully aware that it was a dog eat dog world here. Historically, fathers killed son, uncles killed nephews, brothers killed each other for power and throne. Even now, this kind of thing still happened in these elite families. People would do anything to defend what’s theirs, to stay at the top. She had been too naive to think the ones who shared the same blood can be trusted, she knew that now. Laying her head on Chaewon’s shoulder, she emitted another sigh, agreeing with the sentiment. “It’s disheartening that even your blood family can’t be trusted, but at least I have you, and that’s all it matters.“ Her own words put a smile to her face. It was always them against the world, Chaewon was all she ever needed.
Yijoo smiled when Chaewon showed off her ring-less finger. She was happy for her friend that the engagement was off, knowing her heart was never in it, but the elation was short-lived. Her face instantly fell when she heard about what happened. She wrapped an arm around the slender female, gently rubbing her arm. "Oh, Chae…I’m so sorry…I wish I could’ve been there for you…” It was true. She couldn’t imagine how frightening it is to face an angry and violent man who was out for vengeance, then she felt like an absolute worst friend. Had she been too focused on her own life to notice how rough it’d been for Chaewon lately?
It was fortunate there were other people who care about Chaewon as much as she does. “Thank goodness Wonshik-ssi was there! You weren’t hurt in any way, right?” Her concerned eyes scanning Chaewon’s porcelain-like skin for any visible wound or cut. It was ridiculous and unfair that Chaewon had to atone for her father’s misdeed. Yijoo wasn’t sure if she’d considered herself to be an optimist, but she always tried to look on the bright side of things. At least now her friend was okay and managed to get out of an undesirable marriage. She was just so relieved Chaewon made through all of it, still breathing and living.
“Just friend?” She asked, her tone teasing. Mostly because she wanted to lighten the mood a little, talking about their families could be quite heavy at times. “Well, whoever he is, he was there for my girl when I couldn’t. And for that, he has earned the Oh Yijoo seal of approval.” She grinned. Getting up from the bed, Yijoo walked to the vanity desk. Slowly laying her makeup tools out, she glanced at her friend in the mirror. “You can worry about anything tomorrow, but tonight, we’re going to forget all our problems temporarily. Promise me that?”

247chaewon:
One thing was for sure, secrets were never really secrets and it’s a mistake to underestimate people, yet it was clear that both of them, Yijoo and Chaewon, had the tendency to do so because in their heads their were the smart ones that fixed everything by themselves, when the truth was less like this. “Doesn’t it sounds like the perfect scenario to kick him out and look like Madre Teresa even if your father finds out?” Chaewon couldn’t help but share her thoughts. “I’m sorry, she’s your mom, but unfortunately in our world, they see their children and everyone else as chess pieces.” Life taught her not to trust even her family, so she felt it was suspicious and that the Mrs. Oh was hiding some cards.
It wasn’t until Chaewon said it that she realized, indeed, it had been a while since the two of them have fun at a party together. As soon as they were thrust into the world of adult responsibilities, the only kind of social functions they attended were formal galas or elegant soirée, nothing they could really let loose and have fun. Even though she turned twenty-five not too long ago, just last month actually, it still didn’t hit her that she was beginning to enter the late twenties. “Gosh, I don’t even know. High school, maybe?” It must be. Chaewon left to study in London right after while she stayed in Seoul to attend Korea University. “If Halloween is all about pretending to be something you aren’t, then tonight, may us go back to our rambunctious teenage selves and have the best time of our lives!” She declared joyously.
One thing she loved about Chaewon was how observant she is. Her best friend knew her so well, she didn’t need to put it into words and the girl could pick up anything. This was exactly why they were soulmates. They weren’t just a pair of gal pals who bonded over shopping and gossiping. With all the things they’d gone through together, they were sisters and other half. She was extremely grateful when Chaewon urged her to spill it all and listened through it so patiently. It wasn’t much, but after keeping everything to herself for weeks, she felt a tad relieved to finally talk about it. “Exactly!” She muttered, snapping fingers at Chaewon’s comment. “I don’t know why I’m surprised to find out she is actually Margaret Thatcher, not Jackie O. She hails from a political family, being Machiavellian is in her blood, I suppose.” She snorted, thinking her grandparents probably read The Art of War to her mom as bed time story. Although Yijoo was always so vivacious and easygoing, she had proved to be quite conniving when times arise, and that had to come from somewhere.
Why must their mothers be so crazy and controlling? Are they too bored with their cushy lives, they have to manipulate their offsprings to pass time? Sighing, Yijoo falls backward on her friend’s fluffy bed, rubbing her eyes tiredly. “I still can’t wrap my head around this, Chae. ‘Why did she do it?’, 'What is she gonna do?’, 'What else about me she doesn’t know?’ These are all I keep thinking about lately. To tell you the truth, I’m scared.” Who in the right freaking mind wouldn’t when the person who lived under the same roof as you turn out to be so different? It really showed no matter how well you think you know the person, you still could never guess what their true nature is. "Promise me when we become mothers, we aren't going to be like this." Turning her head, she gave Chaewon a tight-lipped smile.
Sitting up, she patted Chaewon's lap. “Your turn now, mademoiselle. Tell me all about your great escape! I guess you're officially on the market again?" Yijoo wasn't oblivious. One of the first things she noticed upon seeing her friend was the sparkly engagement ring was absent. And of course, there were always whispers.

parkminjae247:
“This might come a little out of the blue, but I know this new exhibition which opens next week-” Minjae chuckled and acted coy. He was brilliant in his acting, there was a reason why he was still alive and kicking and through all of this - Well he was barely holding on. “I’m allowed to enter it before the public, perhaps you’d like to join me? Would could look at it together.” He did as instructed, created a second meeting because his parents obviously wanted this engagement thing to work. Minjae wasn’t too eager on it, but at least he was going to be engaged to a very beautiful woman - Someone he’d have his fun with and if forced to, he’d get married to. “What do you say? I’d love to take you.” That fake smile covered his lips once more, but a small part of him wanted to know how she acted when they were beneath four eyes.
The willowy female's dark brown eyes gleamed when Minjae said he frequented art galleries as well. He was so eloquent and continued to surprise her, in a good way. Yijoo was glad to find they had something in common. Nothing killed a song quicker than two musicians who couldn't strike the same chord. "My parents say the exact same thing. They always tell my brothers and I that we're very fortunate to have what we have, so it's right to always give back to the community and support the causes." Being a goodwill ambassador wasn't on the top of her bucket list, but it was harmless to be charitable. And since she didn't have what it takes to be an artist or creator, she saw it as a way for her to contribute efforts to keeping arts flourishing.
To say she was taken aback by Minjae's proposition was an understatement. In that moment, she wondered if this was his way of asking her on a date, then remembered a passage in one of her favorite books, Pride and Prejudice—"A lady's imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment." She wanted to laugh. It couldn't be further from the truth. Of course, she wasn't sure yet if he was the man she really wanted to marry, but she clearly liked him enough that she was already analyzing his simple invitation. She wasn't a mind reader, she obviously didn't know what's going through Minjae's head, but if he was asking her out, that was a good sign, right?
A dazzling smile bloomed upon her face. "Next week? I'm not sure what my schedule will look like, but I'm always up for exhibition viewing. Give me a date and place, I'll try my best to make it!" She wasn't playing hard to get. With work, events, and her own social life, it was hard to keep up, she didn't want to make a commitment she couldn't keep. Offering a smile again, she picked the napkin off her lap and said to him politely. When the waiters came around to take plates away for the next course, Yijoo decided it was the right timing to go touching up her makeup. She flashed a smile, picked the napkin off her lap. "Excuse me." She murmured politely before getting up from the chair, making a beeline for the powder room.

jongin247:
he stares out at nothing though, unimpressed by the view, and thinks of paris, not that it’s any better over there. he imagines going back though, visiting for a while, but then reminds himself he doesn’t have time for things like that anymore. not without some important excuse. he breathes in the cigarette again and huffs.
Yijoo is painfully aware that she’s well past being just tipsy, stuck somewhere between blissful intoxication and slurring stupor. After finishing the pretty pink drink she ordered, Yijoo roams around the decks, searching for Chaewon so they can head out. Trying to squeeze through a mass of bodies has proved to be rather difficult though. Even at a fancy boat party, people lose their inhibition on Halloween, true to the spirit, she supposes. "Hey, watch it!" She rebukes when a man dresses as Jack Sparrow bumps his shoulder with hers. He shrugs, takes his pipe and blows huge puffs of smoke at her. "Sorry." He says simply.
She freezes. Then scrunches her nose up. Not because she is disgusted by it. Not at all.
She took her very first drag of cigarette when she was sixteen and has not stopped smoking since. At least behind closed doors. Her parents made her quit when she could go through half pack of Marlboro in a day. To them and everyone else (anyone who isn't close and trustworthy enough, that is), she has been smoking free since leaving the doors of Cheongnam High School. Truth is, she still smokes occasionally, especially whenever she is stressed. And the urge becomes stronger after she drinks.
If this is a private party, perhaps she'd have no problem walking up to the man and asks for a cigarette, but there are watchful eyes at this kind of large-scale event, Yijoo knows better. Before she can even think, her feet are already taking her away from the scene. Climbing up the stairs to the upper deck, she finds a more quiet and remote corner, wanting to clear her head with the crisp night air. Hands gripping the cold railing, Yijoo closes her eyes, practicing the meditation technique she has learned to subside the desire to indulge her vice.
Until the faint scent of cigarette smoke wafted past her. Does she really crave it so badly that she is imagining the smell? Opening an eye, she swivels her head around, quickly spotting a male puffing up smoke few feet away. Damn.
"Excuse me..." She calls out but pauses, unsure of what she wants to say next—excuse me, can you go smoke somewhere else?—or is it—excuse me, do you mind sharing one cigarette with me?

247chaewon:
After mentally listing all the accessories she needed to complete her costume, Chaewon ran back to her closet to pick some nice diamond earrings, a shiny hair piece, black gloves and cat eyed sunglasses. The dress already had the pearl details that would work perfectly as a necklace, so she just needed the basic black scarpin and it was done. Returning to her bedroom with the stuff on her hands, the female put them with the dress and sat back on her bed, reaching out for the phone. “Now I need to learn how to do the hair.” She said, ready to be saved by some Youtube tutorial. Looking away from the screen for a moment, she met Yijoo’s gaze. “How was Hawaii? I never got to ask you.” Again, there was some guilt in her tone. With the fashion week madness and her own situation after that, she didn’t know how was her trip, which was a shame.
Halloween was one of the holidays Yijoo always looked forward to. She loved the sense of mischief and eerie hanging in the autumn cool crisp air and that everyone gets to transform into someone or something for one night. Toying the wig, Yijoo's lips spread into a grin at her friend's compliment. Blowing a kiss towards Chaewon, she said giddily, "Thanks, love. Blonde hair does suit me very well, if I may so myself." Seeing her reflection, it brought back a time when she dyed her hair blonde. It was the summer before second year of high school; after being in Europe for three months, she came back with a head of golden locks, shocking everyone. Although she had to dye it back to black because the school and her parents insisted it wasn't "appropriate", she liked it a lot. If it wasn't because her job as a news anchor, she would definitely try to be blonde again one of these days. "We're going to look so cute! Ah, I'm seriously so excited for this party! It's just what we need!"
When Chaewon disappeared into her closet again, Yijoo fetched her bag and pulled out the items she needed—a cosmetic pouch, a black off-shoulder top, disco pants, leather jacket and a pair of red Louboutin pumps. Taking the wig off, Yijoo unzipped the tweed mini dress she was wearing for work. An audible sigh fell from her lips when Chaewon asked about her vacation, making it seemed like she didn't have a grand time there, which wasn't at all true, but, yes, something was bothering her. "I mean, it was as amazing as I expected. The beach was beautiful and relaxing, it was so nice to spend time with Kijoon oppa and his family. My nephew grew so much since the last time I saw him, he's so adorable! Remind me to show you photos later." Fiddling with the pearl embellished buttons on her dress, Yijoo pondered if this was the right time to tell her best friend about what was on her mind these days. Chaewon undoubtedly had her own mess to deal with, Yijoo didn't want to give her more headache; at the same time, she needed to blow off some steam.
While Chaewon was busy searching for a hair tutorial on the phone, Yijoo changed out of the dress and slipped the black off-shoulder top on. "Okay, you know how I often say that my father is a relentless businessman, he runs a tight ship even at home." Yijoo had to be honest, the man was a good father figure, he never neglected his children despite how busy he could be, but his stringent standard also drove the eldest son away. "Turns out, we have a Cersei Lannister in the house." She quipped after putting those disco pants on. Running her hand through her hair, Yijoo's expression was one of conflicted and sullen as she stared at Chaewon. Taking a breath in, she said, "Chae...my mom knows about what happened eight years ago...she knows why Kijoon got into that altercation that got him banished."
Before she came to know of this, she had naively believed that only four people knew the truth—herself, Kijoon, the man, and Chaewon. The fact that her mother knew about it and acted like she doesn't all these years was...unsettling. "I always thought it's odd that Mr. Stranger Danger's family dropped the lawsuit so quietly, well, my mom was the one behind it. She made a deal with Kijoon that she would settle with them, on the condition that he had to leave the house." Yijoo didn't know if the woman did it out of protection for her daughter or to aid her favored step-son becoming the heir, one thing was for sure, Mrs. Oh was a cunning lady and not one to underestimate.

247chaewon:
Looking through her huge closet on the dresses section, this black one caught her attention, one that she bought in Italy a few years ago because it looked like Audrey Hepburn’s in Breakfast at Tiffany’s but never wore it. She picked it up and turned to show it to Yijoo. “This Balenciaga here doesn’t remind you of Holly Golightly? Um, I think this will be my costume. I’m sure I can find the right accessories to make it perfect.” She asked for her opinion, but considering the amount of time she had, it would be her best option anyway. “But tell, what’s your costume this year?” Chaewon wondered, genuinely curious to find out the answer. Yijoo always had good ideas and surely put more thought on hers than Chaewon was doing.
Crossing her arms, Yijoo narrowed her eyes, pretending to be mad, but when her own dark brown hues met the other female’s feline-like ones, a smile nearly escaped her. Truth was, she could never stay mad at Chaewon for long. Like any other pair of best friends, quarreling was a normal part of their friendship, and they always managed to make up ten minutes later, laughing and talking as if they had not just yelled at each other earlier. The longest they had gone without speaking was probably when The Empire break apart. "Yes, you are back, and you aren't going anywhere without me, not tonight, tomorrow or any other day. You're stuck with me for the rest of your life, Chae!" To make her point, Yijoo tightened her grip on the slim female's arm. "If you really feel sorry, dance with me tonight, then all is forgiven!" She winked playfully.
It honestly didn't cross Yijoo's mind that the fashion designer doesn't have her Halloween costume sorted out already. Chaewon had always been the more perfectionist one out of the two, so it was very telling when something could disrupt her orderly life. Taking a seat on the bed, Yijoo watched her friend rummaging through the closet while trying to think of few suggestions to help. Though before she could come up with anything, Chaewon already figured it out. Breakfast at Tiffany's Holly Golightly? That is so Chaewon. "It totally does! It's the perfect costume for you! You're gonna look so gorgeous, oh my god, now I'm really excited!" Chaewon was the epitome of beauty and grace, she could absolutely pull off one of Audrey Hepburn's iconic roles.
As for Yijoo, she had decided to go for something more retro. Standing up, she held up two fingers, pretended to puff a cigarette. "Tell me about it, stud." She recited a famous movie line. "I'm going as Sandy from Grease!" The news anchor had pondered about her costume for a while, she wanted something that was recognizable but not too elaborate, and Sandy filled the bill. Most of the things she needed for the costume were already in her closet, the only thing she had to buy additionally was the blonde curly wig. Standing in front of the mirror, she put the wig on her head. "Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee!" Oh, she had a feeling she wouldn't run out of any Grease references tonight.
