Actually my individual essay was finished and published in 2022 with support from Professor Jonathan Gruber. However, I changed the thesis and formatting in this semester as IRP format.
The title of my individual research project is "Why Chinese government tended to give more transfers to high GDP provinces?——the Anomalies of Central-to-Local Transfer Payments in China, 2002 to 2018." The main goal of this project is to investigate the reasons behind the unequal distribution of central-to-local transfer payments in China. Specifically, I analyzed why the Chinese government tended to allocate more transfer payments to provinces with higher GDP and whether political factors played a role in this process.
To achieve this goal, I collected and analyzed data on central-to-local transfer payments and GDP from 2002 to 2018 in China. I used regression analysis to examine the relationship between transfer payments and GDP and to test the impact of political factors such as the number of local government officials on the distribution of transfer payments.
Reflection:
Completing this independent research project has been a challenging but rewarding experience. I believe I have achieved the goals that I set for myself at the beginning of the project. Through conducting research and analyzing data, I gained a deeper understanding of macroeconomics for my further study in economics.

The Way for NGO to Improve
Our group's research project was focused on identifying ways for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to improve their operations and impact. We began by conducting extensive research on successful NGOs and their best practices, as well as analyzing the challenges faced by NGOs. From there, we developed a set of recommendations that covered a range of areas, including fundraising, marketing, and program development.
Throughout the project, we worked collaboratively as a team, dividing tasks based on our individual strengths and interests. We held a few meetings to discuss our progress and we also engaged in open communication via email and messaging platforms to stay connected and up-to-date.
My Contribution to the Project
As a member of the team, my main contribution to the project was conducting research on best practices in fundraising and marketing for NGOs. I reviewed numerous case studies and conducted interviews with experts in the field to gather insights and develop recommendations. Also there is an interesting charity-marketing video from Thailand found in my research. Click in if you are interested in it. “SaddestThaiCommercial“Sister”(EngSub).”YouTube,9Feb.2015,

I also helped to create a detailed presentation that summarized our findings and provided actionable recommendations for NGOs.
What I Learned
Working on this research project taught me a great deal about the importance of collaboration, communication, and flexibility in team-based projects. I learned how to effectively divide tasks and delegate responsibilities based on individual strengths and interests, and how to communicate effectively to ensure that everyone was on the same page.
Additionally, I gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by NGOs and the critical role that they play in addressing social issues and creating positive change in China. Through our research, I was able to gain valuable insights into successful marketing strategies, which will undoubtedly be useful in my future career endeavors.
Reflection on Teamwork
Working with my team on this research project was actually a challenging experience. While we all stuck to Covid pandemic and had different strengths and weaknesses, we were able to work together effectively to achieve our goals.
One of the most valuable aspects of working on this project was learning how to communicate effectively with team members. We quickly learned that clear communication was critical to the success of the project, and we made a concerted effort to keep each other informed of our progress and to share our ideas openly and honestly.
What’s more, I also learned the importance of flexibility and adaptability in team-based projects. As we encountered obstacles and challenges throughout the project, we had to be willing to shift our focus and pivot our strategies to ensure that we were still able to achieve our goals.

Welcome to Shanghai! China's most populous city, and home to our school. Our city is a vibrant and bustling metropolis with a rich history and culture, and I’m excited to introduce you to both Shanghai and my school.
Shanghai, the largest city in China, is located on the eastern coast of the country and has a population of over 24 million people. The city is a global financial hub and a major center for trade and commerce. It has a rich cultural heritage and is famous for its unique blend of traditional and modern architecture, as well as its mouth-watering cuisine.
My school, Shanghai Wenlai International School, located in the suburb of the city, is one of the official-credited international educational school in China. With annoying traditional executive level teachers’ control, we have thousands of limits. However, people in our department still designed life with plenty of fizz and sparkle. Passion normally get sparked by various festivals like Super SWIS, Halloween, and Carnival.
Shanghai is a city of contrasts, with towering skyscrapers and traditional temples standing side by side. The city is also known for its beautiful parks and gardens, such as the famous Yu Garden, which dates back to the 16th century. If you want to enjoy Shanghai food like Xiao Long Bao, visit old towns like Qi Bao Lao Jie. Those Jiangnan (Southern part of China) water life vibe can bring you back to ancient China.
In addition to its cultural attractions, Shanghai is also a shopper's paradise. The city boasts some of the largest and most modern shopping malls in the world, as well as charming street markets where you can find unique and handmade souvenirs to take home. Many high-class vintage shops locate in Jingan, Xuhui, and Huangpu District.
My favorite part of Shanghai its vibrant and dynamic nightlife, offering a plethora of entertainment options for locals and tourists alike. As the sun sets, the city comes alive with neon lights illuminating the towering skyscrapers and bustling streets. From chic rooftop bars and nightclubs to traditional Chinese tea houses and street food vendors, there is something for everyone. For a more immersive experience, visitors can explore the lively Xintiandi and French Concession neighborhoods, where they can find trendy restaurants, live music venues, and dance clubs that cater to different tastes and preferences. Whether you're looking for a quiet evening or a wild night out, Shanghai has it all.
Overall, Shanghai is a city that is both modern and traditional, and offers visitors a unique blend of culture, culture, and modernity. I sincerely hope that you one day will visit and experience my city and school for yourself, and I am confident that you will fall in love with Shanghai, just like I have.
