I know without a doubt Ellie’s mom would fully support what Joel did, and I just wish, in the future, Ellie knew this is what someone who truly loves her would do.

knowing that joel tried to commit suicide now after sarah's death just made me revisit ep 5 when they bury sam and henry after sam dies and henry kills himself.... craig and neil mentioned it in the podcast but that look on joel's face when he's staring at the grave is him realizing/fearing that "this is going to be me and her" and knowing what we know now about his past attempt it just hit harder to me. like joel really would not flinch this time if ellie were to die. and he knows it.
you shut up right now. STOP IT RIGHT NOW ANON.
analyzing this exact scene rn and that’s so. oh man. he really wouldn’t flinch. HEEHEH i may include this in my analysis actually I totally didn’t think about this so. If i do I’ll credit u anon whoever you are

going into the last episode, i thought there was a chance they were going to make the fireflies look more in the right but it's actually kinda funny how it's even worse than in the game. at least in the game ellie is already unconscious and they could tell themselves it's better to just go for it than to wake her up. in the show they dragged her away while knocking out joel. she asked about him and was worried because seriously what the fuck?? and they put her under so they didn't have to answer more of her questions because im sure she wanted to see him and that was a risk for them
they couldn't have been there for more than a couple hours, they didn't ATTEMPT to find any other way to use ellies immunity? just straight up "yep we have to kill our one and only immune person right this second, chop up her brain, let's go"
i really have no sympathy for the fireflies, they could have avoided this situation in soooo many ways and they chose to be complete dumbasses about it and chose the worst possible way to tell joel to fuck off. they didn't give her a good last day and to say a proper goodbye. and then they acted like they were in the moral high ground bc they let joel live and didnt let ellie know she was gonna die so she goes out peacefully like no fuck that im sorry

i know this was supposed to be a really dramatic episode with a moral quandary at the center of it, but all i could think about was how medically inept their plan was. spinal fluid, blood, tissue samples, even a brain biopsy wouldn’t kill her! if she dies who the hell else are you gonna use? this should be your last resort. someone take away that man’s medical license!

i need season 1.5 of the last of us which will just be 10 hours of joel and ellie exploring abandoned theme parks and museums and playing guitar and telling each other jokes and laughing and stargazing and THEN they can make season 2 and i simply won’t watch it

mmm something something about how in both these situations, the person holding the gun thinks the best chance at saving humanity is to kill the little girl in joel's arms - sarah's broken ankle was mistaken for an infection, ellie's brain possibly holds the key to a cure. sarah dies for nothing. ellie would've died for nothing, regardless if the cure worked or not. joel never gave a single shit about curing humanity, there was no choice here for him. he already lost a daughter by people who thought they knew what was best for the world, he wouldn't lose another one the same way

Something something…getting pushed away by the person you love because they care about you way too much.

Something something…walking away from them out of anger.

i just wanna say i definitely don't think Ellie was the one to have killed Riley, ive seen that theory floating around since episode 4 and that didn't sit right with me especially bc of Rileys speech to not give up their time with each other and im glad the show didn't suggest that either. her first kill was that infected in Left Behind and im pretty sure in the game it was said that Marlene killed Riley (unless im misremembering it?)

Oh, hi! Didn’t see you there. What am I doing? Oh…uh, nothing. Y’now, thinking normal thoughts, of course :) not sobbing over the change in their hand hold from Ellie holding tight to Joel freeing his fingers so he can hold hers back as tight as his body allows him while Ellie runs a comforting thumb over his pointer finger and then uses both her hands to tightly squeeze his two more times before stitching him up 🕳👩‍🦯

Ellie’s confronted with a looot of decisions this episode. It’s interesting to see which ones she chooses as she continues to grow.
Her first choice is her very first real decision on what she wants in the long run. She can either keep kicking ass/getting her ass kicked in the small fights now, or she can start picking and choosing her battles. Wait until she’s got some real power as an officer to, as Cpt. Kwong put it, “tell the Bethanys of the world where to shove it.”
So he gives her two options: Cup or keys. Container or tool. Overflow or unlock. Grunt or captain. Power or none.
(This is the version of Ellie that doesn’t know loss yet. She choses keys.)
Her second choice changes things, because it begins with everything else being taken away. She rages and wails and smashes up the place that could’ve been her and Riley’s paradise. She’s furious at having that future with her taken away.
So Riley gives her two options: The gun or time. Quick or slow, but hanging on and celebrating the time left with each other the whole way. Die human or die monsters. End it now or lose their minds together.
(This is the version of Ellie who thinks she’s dying with her best friend. She chooses to time.)
Her third choice isn’t even a choice at all. Even weak and bleeding out Joel still strong enough to push her off, to tell her to leave him. Ellie doesn’t accept that. She rips through that entire house for anything that can help her have just a little more time with him, anything at all that can give them even just a few more minutes.
Her rage has sharpened into determination. She’s not letting some jackass with a broken baseball bat take away the only person who hasn’t left her yet.
Still, Joel gives her the options anyway: Go or stay. Leave him before he can leave her, or dig through this grimy mess of a house and find a way to make it work. Cut ties or pick up the needle.
This is the version of Ellie that won’t let herself lose again.
She will always choose the needle.

Ellie is thinking about Riley, and she’s thinking about the fact that Riley didn’t quit on her. Riley didn’t walk away. Riley didn’t let Ellie kill herself, and Ellie’s not walking away from Joel. And she walks right back down there, and she says, “I’m going to keep this moment for as long as I can. For as long as I have you, I’m with you.”
