縁 (Fate)
Bonus character duet song from Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu Vol. 6 Bluray or DVD Disclaimer: Kanji lyrics were taken from the comments in the video & the English translation was done via DeepL + paraphrasing by me, so if a more accurate translation comes out, I'll either change the english lyrics or link that post here. Izuminokami Kanesada (CV. Kimura Ryohei) Horikawa Kunihiro (CV. Enoki Junya)

Izuminokami: Every time this flower turns pale I recall the "wish" that I left behind Blooming with dignity, wearing the image of his person A single ray of color that melts in the wind. Horikawa: Kindness is a strength and a weakness, it is a double-edged sword Both: Now, cut through the chaos of this world. Both: Resonate, the bell that tells of the beginning In the midst of destiny that spins round and round. Izuminokami: Each of us has engraved our loyalty for the sake of the tomorrow we wish to protect Both: Sing, a strong and gentle song of a fleeting wish that has scattered before coming true. Now is the time, to release it into the blue sky. Horikawa: The tears that I could not hold back and spilled out, This rain of mourning is a remnant of sorrow. Born from the cracks in changing times Both(1): Even grief, now, is turned into a source for continuing on. Both(1): Broken, along with our hopes and our scars. Awkward in the present with a trace of our dreams. Horikawa: In the midst of a burning flame, I hold back my heart that is about to burst open Both: And so, We took different paths and overcame the same pain Let the light shine with the bond that was born Izuminokami: Until the day you die, Both: Pierce through, the steel way of life Now, cut through even fate Both: Resonate the bells that celebrate your new beginnings. There's a place where I want to go back to and is the proof that I've lived. Sing a strong and gentle song at the dawn of a new era. With the resolve that binds us together, let's make a wish and release it into the blue sky Release it into the blue sky ______________________________________________________

Post-editing note: The color coding became so wonky that I gave up on it.
Initially, I wanted to preserve the user's intentions of coding who is singing higher than the other, but it's mostly Kanesan singing higher while Kunihiro supports him with a lower harmony. There is only one part where the roles are switched, so I've noted that with (1). A cute detail that I noticed was that in the comments, a lot of people were complimenting Horikawa's deeper singing and praising him as Kanesan's assistant that supports him even in singing.
From the second chorus onwards, the translation on DeepL is very broken so I had to google individual kanji words to piece together a more fluent meaning, but because of that, I may have lost the original intention of the lyrics. If a more accurate translation does come out, I will change the lyrics or link it here.
Honestly, not a lot of people talk about the Katsugeki character songs compared to Hanamaru's music, so I might do Mikazuki's and Yamanbagiri's duet too. I'm just way too addicted to this song at the moment.
Lastly, I wanted to explain the difference of "fate" in the title versus the words in the lyrics so here's a very lengthy explanation. I encourage you to read it and then take a look at the lyrics because the difference of "fate" does provide a deeper context to the song.
(縁) the title initially translates to "Fate" ("En") on DeepL, but I've also noticed it's a word with double-meaning where it can also mean "Edge" which could also be the title, considering they are swords. But I stuck with "Fate" because 1. I'm not too sure how accurate "Edge" is as a title, and 2. "Fate" in this context seems to indicate the special bond between them and maybe even, their bond with Hijikata. (縁, "En") is only used in the title. In the Kanji lyrics, (運命, "Unmei") is mostly used and I believe it translates into the conventional meaning of "fate" as in "predetermined future". And then in the first chorus, (運命, "Unmei") is written but they sing (さだめ, "Sadame") and the kanji lyrics also notes that in brackets afterwards. I believe (さだめ, "Sadame") in this context means "destiny" as in "a future shaped by your own choices" so the usage of "fate" and "destiny" in lyrics are fairly surface level. To explain the title (縁, "En") or "fate" in Asian/Buddhist context, the general idea is that "fate" has no other determining factor or cause, but it is the belief that you're connected with a person through a special/unique bond and the coincidence of crossing paths with them again is an eventuality that will happen, one way or another. All people will reincarnate indefinitely and so you will cycle through different reincarnations, but there will come a reincarnation where you end up meeting the same people, just in a different body. Just imagine: You might meet them repeatedly in different lifetimes or it may take you a long while to meet them again, but either way is really special because you can think of it as you've endured many lifetimes to meet them again or meeting them so often just means that luck is in your favor. In modern times, "Fate" is often used for people who have positively impacted you. In this sense, it has become a very intimate concept because to say that you're fated with a person implies that you're looking forward to accidentally meeting them over and over again. For Izuminokami and Horikawa, their "fate" is very deep because it's rich in significance. They met as steel swords that were forged to be used by Hijikata, to then be reborn as Touken Danshi and redefine their partnership with each other and what it means to protect Hijikata and his legacy. Who knows what might happen to them in the future, they may go back to being steel swords, but with "fate", there will always be the possibility they will meet each other and protect Hijikata once more. So to go back to the difference of the title and the lyrics, the title is basically "Fate" in the context that I explained, but the lyrics describes their relationship between them and Hijikata in this reincarnated version (Katsugeki). Being reincarnated and meeting once again is a simple yet beautiful thing, but if you've watched Katsugeki, the song is made once more sadder when you realize how much both of them look to the past.

“Hori-san, instead of “where are you going,” do you mean, “please don’t go?” I’m not going anywhere. Until you say you don’t need me here anymore, or get sick and tired of looking at my face, or tell me to buzz off, I’m going to stay right here.“

“Remember when you asked me, ‘Aren’t you lonely being by yourself all the time’? Hearing that annoyed me a bit, but I’m really glad that you found me back then.”

I’m sure I’ll still remember that day, even ten years from now. But I will forget, little by little. The name of the bus stop we got off at. The color of the sweater I wore that day. The words that were exchanged between us. I’ll definitely forget, little by little. That thing called ‘loneliness’ it seems to burn, radiantly, on the stage. Someday I’ll know.
