The Distributed Narrative
Tumblr media
Presented at AoIR 5.0, Brighton, September 21, 2004 by Dr Jill Walker
Indeed, distributed narratives are narratives which are not self-contained because they don't have the same outlook as electronic literature (Walker, 2004). This type of story affects us everyday in our life. The use of distributed narratives affects the way individuals think, understand, and perceive things, and it has changed the way of ideas are shared across the spectrum. The distributed narratives are two distinct fragmentations, namely; Distribution in Time and Distribution in Space (Walker, 2004). This new narrative affects the way people interact and socialize with each other. For example, 'distribution in time' allows people to learn entirely new things which were previously not known like print media and television shows provide unique learning experiences which shape the way we live and integrate with society. The thematic unity in distributed narratives makes it easier for people to develop feelings of interconnectedness. Indeed, distributed stories affect us in more ways than we could have ever imagined.
Distribution of authorship provides an ample platform for upcoming authors to share their ideas and learn other effective skills from the distributed narratives while the distribution of authorships allows us to understand the world or other issues from the author's perspectives (Walker, 2004). It will enable people to see what the author sees and interpret things from the same angle and perspective. This new narrative affects individuals it because they ignite a deep urge to keep on reading to unveil discoveries. Such urges enable people to expand their knowledge and become assertive while dealing with various real-life issues. Episodic and networked narratives are often appealing to the audience, and they have established a massive following from narrative fanatics. At the same time, excellent category of distributed narratives is the email narratives (Baxter & Atherton, 1997). Email narratives allow users to sign up and receive daily notifications regarding a specific issue. This narrative affects us because it makes people more open to new ideas and welcomes others while to experience their world at the same time.
Narratives distributed across space affects people in the sense that it enables the readers to feel the author's world, experience it, and share it in their surrounding as well. Reading stickers and finding websites makes a reader a significant part of the author's larger story. Narratives which are distributed across space, affect us as they keep the readers wanting more (Walker, 2004).

Maps and us
Tumblr media
Figure 1: The Impact of Globalization on Economic Growth (Justin K.,2019) https://www.thebalance.com/globalization-and-its-impact-on-economic-growth-1978843
Parents use a map to show us how extensive the world, it’s for teaching us our nationality while to give us self belonging, when growing older we hold the map to visit this dynamic and vibrant world, for broadening one’s horizons.
In this ages of change, the map had been progressing at an unprecedented rate. The oldest known maps are preserved on Babylonian clay tablets from about 2300 B.C. Cartography was considerably advanced in ancient Greece. (J.S.Aber, 2008), at that time people use a map to discover the new landside consummate the map make it more detail. At present, the map had been much smaller, you just need to open an app like google map it can bring you to go anywhere around the world.
Maps are remarkably powerful in society, they recount a sense of direction and purpose, while maps are one of the most important tools for researches, tourists and student use to examine the entire earth or a specific part of it.(Vidya H.,2014) directly to show the landforms, political boundaries. At the same time, the map acts as a guide in an unfamiliar place, which you have never visited before therefore map help us to know the distances from one place to another place, and shapes of places or destinations, assist us to plan a particular activity. Also when we have a map, does not have to depend on anybody for local direction. It acts as a direction finder for a very small price.(Vidya H.,2014)
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “To finish the moment, to find the journey’s end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom.”(Mark A., 2018) more recently, more of us are using Global position system(GPS) this technology, even though it is an on hand-held devices easy to carry around but also affecting our understanding and diminished the experience of the place. In this generation, we have grown up and relied on using Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)for destinations of choice, even using this like of devices in familiar journeys. One can call the use of such technologies as second nature.(Mark A., 2018). mobile devices have become a comfort tool, on the other hand, they also diminish our sense of place and experiences.

Tumblr media
Do you remember when is your last time go out for shopping? Under this generation most of people will answer we shop online, shop in mall is not our style.
With the expansion of the cutting age the function of the social media has evolved in recent years faster than we expected. In 2015, Business Insider said, “More than two dozen [U.S.] malls have shut down in the last four years and another 60 malls are on the brink of death.” (Melina,2017), the reason cause multitudinous mall close down is because of the rise of online shopping trend. While some mall are transforming themselves and finding a new ways to attract customers. That is where social media step in. The lesson for those shut down shop is: no matter how well established you are, if you’re not adapting to the newest digital trends, you’ll be left behind and forgotten.(Marija, 2018)
To follow the new generation trend most of the shop start to reinventing themselves, they change their shop location to online, sell in those shopping app like Lazada, Farfetch at the same time, a large number of retail giants sign up their official account on Instagram and Facebook, it is because in instagram had built its own shopping feature by instagram’s Shoppable posts, the idea of Shoppable posts is press the tage which is your favour product while dirct to the website also buyer can add their credit card and buy directly through the platform.
In the instagram has over 800 million actives users while the majority of the users are 18 to 24years old, these data give us a clear vision that instagram is the one of the best social media channels if you’re looking for a way to bring your brand closer to potential buyers.
Social media is making online shopping more personal for example use utilize machine learning to improve customer service. Most of biggest corporations had investing money in AI, while its the time has come for online marketers to turn their attention towards automation to generate more personalized shopping experiences. (Charles, 2018)
Social media influencers can have a huge impact on the products consumers buy. They have a high level of engagement with their followers (Ellie, 2018). social medis makes shopping have more chooses and more dirct have conversation to seller for getting more information. Sometime we may saw product we like but it is hard to find store by store or the store is very far away from you, on the other hand, online shopping slove all your problems, just search the keywords and delivery man will sent to your home.
There’s no doubt that social media has transformed e-commerce for the better. With more emphasis placed on social capital, online shopping has become more personal and interactive(Anthony, 2017)
