Yet another fic in the Ineffable Meet-Cute Series!

Summary:

There is a thief in Aziraphale's bookshop. He would mind it a lot more, if said thief was not the most gorgeous man he has ever seen. Also, more interested in debating religious philosophy with Aziraphale, than robbing him blind. Or, a comprehensive guide on what not to do during a break-in. Unless you want to meet an unhinged criminal, who might just be perfect for you.

"The point is-" the other man slurred. Half his body was no longer on the sofa, various limbs half-splayed on their way to the floor. The only steady part of him, the wine glass in his hands. "The point is." He stared at Aziraphale as if expecting him to reveal the point. Aziraphale stared back, certain only that he had no idea where to find it. "My point is. Dolphins." The man grinned, proudly. Aziraphale continued to stare. "Big brains. Size of, size of damn big brains. And then there's the whales. Brain city, whales." Aziraphale had no idea what they had been discussing or how they had gotten here. Still, he wiggled, made himself more comfortable for the arrival of the point. The other man jabbed a finger in his direction, "No religion." Aziraphale nodded. Halfway through the night and more than halfway through their second bottle of wine, this sounded like the most concrete evidence against religion he had ever heard. "Gorillas," he added, his own point eager to make an appearance. "They make nests, you know, gorillas. Saw a film. No religion."

When rising star AJ Crowley finds himself in a little spot of trouble on the set of his new action movie, he is lucky enough to bump into a literal angel who infuses him with some much needed courage in a rather unconventional way. One fabulous kiss, a fall from grace, many phone calls and approximately twenty years of friendship later, Crowley and Aziraphale are about to embark on their first ever project together, which allows them to get closer than ever. Will they be brave enough to cross the invisible boundary still standing between them? Or will they let the fear of losing each other get in their way? Idiocy predictably abounds, but luckily so does the love.

LonelyLogan999 wants to know: Did you like working together after being friends for so long? AJC: That’s a terrible username, LonelyLogan999.  EF: Answer the question, Crowley. AJC: Ugh, fine. Before: Crowley has some good news to share, and it’s not all about his favourite car. Aziraphale tries to survive both. Now: The Arrangement wraps filming and the three months Crowley and Aziraphale spent living together come to an end. Resourceful as ever, Crowley finds the time for some last minute spiraling.

Crowley stops fussing with the dashboard to level him with a baffled gaze. “Driving her you mean?” “It’s– I mean, she’s a car. Don’t they generally do that? Drive, that is.” Aziraphale is no connoisseur of cars, but even he knows a thing or two about them. Crowley squawks in outrage. “Not this one! Are you bonkers? We could ruin her!” There are parents of actual toddlers who would react with more composure to their off-spring being offered whiskey, Aziraphale thinks. He lets out a nervous laugh. Oh, he’s definitely missing something. “So what are we doing here exactly?” “We’re making sure she’s okay.” “Oh.” “One day, I’ll live in the countryside and I’ll have a very nice garage, just for her. With its own heating system and everything, so she won’t have to suffer through the winter. Insulated too, so no rain can touch her. And maybe we’ll get her a sister as well.” And since birds of a feather all flock together, in all that nonsense Crowley has just regaled him with, Aziraphale finds himself focusing on a single two-letter word that sends his pulse racing. “We?” Crowley chokes on something and scrambles to avert his gaze, the tips of his ears turning suspiciously pink. “Myeah, me and her,” he mumbles quickly. “Whatever.” “Ah, of course.” Good Lord, are they not-talking about adopting cars together? Is this what’s happening here?  No, wait, he shouldn’t get ahead of himself like that. Gosh, Aziraphale must be more affection-starved than he thought, because he’s pretty sure there are butterflies frantically fluttering in his stomach. Oh, dear. The truth is, he will gladly adopt a whole army of mopeds if that’s what it takes to make Crowley happy.

Summary:

Award-winning true crime podcast Va-voom, sorted! has been on hiatus since his author, Anthony Crowley, has published his first murder mystery, Murder on the M25. When his associate Nina begs him to follow a story on a train crash, he meets PI Aziraphale Eastgate, and he soon realises that the charming Apparition in tartan is the real voice behind his favourite podcast, Mr Fell's Mystery Haven. Crowley can't possibly imagine that Aziraphale is starting his own true crime podcast to investigate the same story. Feeling the pressure of competition, Crowley goes back to his first love and wages a Podcast War against the angel until they both realise that the case is bigger than they originally thought. With so much at stake, will they keep working against each other, or will they put their differences aside and learn to trust one another to uncover the truth?

Chapter 14/19: Choosing Sides (7.6k words)

Summary: After a fast regroup in London, Crowley and Aziraphale book a room in Oxford as they wait for Duivel and Engles to get in touch with them. A romantic dinner (and an old trope) is all they need to loosen up a bit and succumb to the temptation of breaking Crowley’s first rule.

Excerpt from Chapter 14:

When Crowley saw the angel pouting at him, with those big grey eyes and an expression full of fondness, he couldn’t stand it anymore. “Off the record, angel. I don’t feel that way about you. Either. At all.” Twinkling. His eyes were twinkling. “You don’t?” Crowley shook his head and sighed, taking off his sunglasses. If he had to do this, might as well do it with style. “I really don’t. At least since I saw you giving the wedding ring back to Peter.” Aziraphale snorted in disbelief. “Crowley, that’s the first time you ever saw me.” “Yes.” And what could he do if not being honest and vulnerable and scared as shit when he was practically declaring having feelings for the angel since day one? Aziraphale averted his eyes only to look at his fake wedding ring. He toyed with it, and Crowley felt entitled to do the same. “Crowley…” the angel’s voice came out all low and edgy, a tone he’d never heard before, not even in the hundreds of hours of Mystery Haven he’d consumed. “You know what they say about rules?” Crowley’s heart was so loud in his throat that for a second Crowley was afraid the other man could hear it. “W-what, angel?” “That they are meant to be broken.”

Friends Don't, by MissUnderstoodLyrics. Rated E, 33k. P. Dec 24.

Honestly, I can’t even begin to tell you how much I loved this story. In my comment on the last chapter I said that it was like an unexpected day off at work: precious, exciting, comfortable, you know it will be over all too soon but it’s one of those gifts that make life happier. In this enemies (meh!) to friends (ha!) to lovers (yay!) Crowley and Aziraphale work as advice columnists for two rival newspapers in Tadfield. The newspapers are bought by the same media company and our two heroes find themselves co-hosting a podcast. How will they cope? Oh, they’ll cope very well indeed, let me tell you. This fiction is uplifting and funny, the banter is clever without ever feeling like they are overdoing it, and the Ineffables react to their feelings in an insecure, fragile, but all too relatable -and fairly realistic- way. It never feels like the writer is pushing it. It became instantly one of my all time favourites.

To Catch A Ghost, by anatomicgirl. Rated T, 17k. P. Feb 25.

Such an intriguing ghost story! Spooky and sweet in equal measure. Human AU in which friends Aziraphale and Crowley are vloggers dealing with paranormal phenomena. On their way to Tadfield they find themselves stuck alone in a cottage belonging to an old lady and her niece. Even skeptic Crowley has to eventually concede that the cottage is haunted. Obliviousness in action, this fic was lovely!

Read Between The Lines, by MissUnderstoodLyrics. Rated E, 5k. P. Feb 24.

I loved, loved, loved this friends to lovers human AU! Crowley and Aziraphale work at the same webzine, are friends and are secretly pining for each other. Just the right amount of miscommunication and very low angst, this story is so sweet and heartwarming!

TV:

Showstopper, by espresso_six_shots. Rated E, 40k. P. May 25.

Sweet and zero angst human AU, where Crowley is an actor who decides to take part in a TV baking show (I think based on The Great British Bake Off) because he has a crush on the judge, Aziraphale. As the story progresses, more of their backstory is revealed. As a big fan of side characters I loved everyone who made an appearance in this fic, with Tracy sometimes stealing the scene. Lovely.
