not to comment on a conversation i'm not in but i also don't think taylor is ever making art and asking the listener to respect or condone her experiences or actions. she's telling you how she feels, and that either resonates with you and connects with you or it doesn't. it's okay if it doesn't, but if you're approaching her work with the idea that she's telling you about her life and asking for your approval or forgiveness or even respect, I think you might be misunderstanding her entire purpose for writing
