Cambodian youth ideas toward their favorite singer
By: Dareth Rosaline
Heng Engly, 20 years old, a third years student of Institut de Technologie du Cambodge (ITC)
“Since I have listened to the song called Kom Jol Mneak Nis Ban Te, I felt like it was attracted. Nico is one of my favorite stars because his sound singing in a song is so good and his acting is charming. He can sing romantic or love song as well as rock or R&B. Every time I listen to his song, I always want to sing it too. Beside Kom Jol Mneak Nis Ban Te song, there are more several songs that I like such as Pakdesaeth Ke Tov and Srolanh Ke Te Min Jong Batborng Oun. Talking about the ways he dresses, his style normally is fancy and modern but while he dresses in uniform, he looks so handsome.”
Im Malyneth, 17 years old, freshmen at Institute of Foreign Languages
“Miss Aok Sokunkanha is my favorite singer. I enjoy listening to her song since she was a singer in U2 production and until now her song in Raksmey Hang Meas production become more and more popular among youth. She can sing both modern song and old song because my mother also likes her singing too. My favorite songs of her are Yutti thor Somrap Kmean Te Neak Smos, Mean Bot Jom Reang Na Ouy Bong Nirk Oun and Mun Bong Som Oun Bek, Oun Som Bong Bek Mun. Talking about style of her, as I observed when I met her outside she is friendly and simple unlike other. At that time, she looks at me and smiles to me too.”
Phon Viasna, 20 years old, IT student at Royal University of Phnom Penh
During the year 2000, Linda is my most favorite song and it is sung by Mr. Nop Bayarith. Since that time, he became my singer model and I really like his song. He sings a song with his talent and his songs are meaningful for me. About his acting, he is good at putting himself along with the song, and includes his emotion as the result the acting come out so well. I always listen to his song when I have free time or lunch break as well as when I work on my assignment. Some time, I sing and play guitar with his song alone or in a group with my friend. Up to now, I still love his song called Reatry Bat Oun and Songsa Leng Leng.
Nit Nithika, 20 years old, Law student at Royal University of Law and Economy
I love listening to an old song and Mrs. Pen Ran is my beloved singer. Her songs are meaning full and loveable with her strong and long sound making all those song became better and famous. The songs of her that I like are Mea Ta Oun Porng and Reatry Nov Pailin and I also can sing those. Every night I always listen to her song when I felt so tired after studying and I couldn’t sleep. To me, I noticed that even though nowadays there are so many old songs were sung but still the sound is different because old singers they are so good at delivering their voice and make me song become smooth and likeable to listen.
Dav Leakpheakdey, 24 years old, working at Gordon& Associates
Sin Sisamut is a singer that I admired the most with his achievement. Every time I listen to his song I feel release and relax because I do enjoy listening to those songs. All of his songs give me the images of activities that he sing and describe in the song. For example, the song called Sro Em Leak Klun. His sound is so unique and there is no one who sings as him or we can say it is hard to sing as his sound. My friend and I love to hear his song and we sometime sit and sing it together. For me, I believe in every single lyric that he sang.

Cambodia youth focus on classical music instrument
By: Dareth Rosaline
As we noticed nowadays, most of Cambodia youth are interesting in playing modern music instruments such guitar, piano, or other and rarely keen on playing classical Khmer music instruments. But there are a few of them in love playing classical Khmer music instrument by choosing to learn it as a major and study more in deep about it.
Miss Va Chamnann, 30, has started learning about the music in music department in Royal University of Fine Art since 1993. Spending 7 years, she successfully finished secondary level and after that she was continues to study for bachelor degree in the music again but more specific on Khmer music instrument called “TA-KE”.
According to Miss Chamnann, there are a few factors forcing her to choose music subject as a major such as her family and her own self. “I love this major but first my parent are the one who guide me to that music field. They are also classical Khmer musician so they encouraged me to study since I was 13 years old because they had observed that not many youth especially girl can play those musical instruments”. She said.
Then after she studied about music as well as technique to play Khmer musical instrument, she gave more value on those instruments and she start to learn and also understand clearly about it. “Classical Khmer music is very important and useful because most of the events or ceremonies in Cambodia do need it such as wedding, national ceremony, and other Khmer festival. Studying about it and there instruments, i am able to help and preserve our culture.” Miss Chamnann says.
Miss Chamnann said learning about the Khmer musical instrument is quite different from modern music instrument because we required having more preparation as traditional style. “With the word old or ancient time, while playing those instruments or showing it to other we have to dress very formal with Khmer Traditional Clothes and we can’t dress in a fancy clothes or sexy at all. Our attitude we have to perform well unlike modern music that musician can dress or act whatever they want and think that it attractive.” She said.
Studying about classical Khmer music instrument is not so easy; Miss Chamnann stated that we need to have talent related to art such as having a creative idea, setting the emotion and feeling along with the meaning of music we play. If not, the sound of the music that we play will not soft and good at all. Still there are some difficulties that musician and learner will face.
“Some instruments it required us to use our fingers to press hardly on the key or button of it in order to get a sound. For a period of time our hand could get skin disease characterized by blisters which break and infect adjacent areas, swollen, and stunted skin”. She said.
She added that even though it is hard, it’s just a short time hurting but it brings back a priceless achievement for musician as well as country. “I got honor and admired from other people both Khmer and foreigner and I also got a lot of opportunities to participate in the party or ceremony both national and international level. Especially, I am proud of myself that I can help to glorify our Khmer art among other country.” Miss Chamnann said.
Up to now, Miss Va Chamnann is a history of art lecturer at National Institute of Education. Besides, she is a Ta-ke performer at Hotel Phnom Penh and also a Ta-ke instrument teacher at student home for part time. She said that teaching in art field is one of the ways that she could share her experiences and knowledge about classical art history as well as about Khmer classical music instrument to youth in the new generation in order to get their attention more and let them interested in playing those instruments.
“It is not meant that we stop and not to care about the new or modern things nowadays but we should base on our foundation that old generation built for us. We should understand clearly about our identity and we must love what we have more than other.” She said.
She added that even though we think that the style or music from other is good but we also have our own way better than those. “Before recognize other, we have to understand and give value to our own first and when we all can do that, our art and music will well know and acknowledge among other country in the world”.

Aday in the life of Mr. Sor Kan
By: Dareth Rosaline
Traffic signs are important for all drivers, not only for car driving but also for other transporting vehicles. Before all drivers can drive along the road, they need to learn about the traffic laws and signs so that they all have to go to driving school. The knowledge related to traffic will be provided and taught by teachers who has a lot of experiences in that field. Mr. Sor Kan, 33 years old, is trying to share his knowledge about traffic by teaching and also spread the information of traffic issue through talk on air as well.
On 3rd, Nov, I went to Mr. Sor Kan work place which is at ABC radio, located at Chamkadong, Phnom Penh. When I arrived there, I went directly to meet him and started the conversation and then let him share his experiences related to traffic.
According to Mr. Kan, he started to work as a driving teacher since 2002. After he finished his study about traffic field from General Department of Public Transportation, he involved himself to work at 23 តុលា in a position as a teacher who teaches about the theory and an instructor in real practice. He has been teaching in driving school for almost 8 years. After that around 2010, he changed from teaching to being a radio presenter talking about traffic issues.
“Even I changed from teaching to talking on air, I still stand on the same goal which is to share and give the knowledge about traffic to all citizens and to let them know clearly about the traffic laws and signs in Cambodia.” Mr. Kan said. Nowadays, he is responsible for two radio programs; one is called Traffic for All Citizens, which plays on air through ABC radio 107.5 F.M at 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. and the other program is named as Traffic Safety for Altogether, which plays through the traffic radio 94.5 F.M from 5p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Both of his programs are opened freely to all citizens about the information and knowledge of traffic field. “Listeners in all ages can call in my program and ask me any questions related to traffic issues. Moreover, they also can share their experiences while traveling as well.” Said Mr. Kan
While working, Mr. Kan said that he have not met any difficulties at all because he got a lot of experiences and knowledge which is able for him to answer the entire questions from the listeners. “I have passed the training programs and also got taught by 23 តុលា driving school as well which I could improve my skill in teaching.
According to Mr. Kan, he is really glad with his current work. He said “I’m really happy when I teach everyone about the traffic laws and the way that they can drive safely”. He added “My work may not help the society at all but it can help a lot in the road.”
Besides working in radio station, Mr. Kan still goes to study in a course about new traffic laws in Cambodia at General Department of Public transportation in order to continue spreading that information to everyone. “I don’t want all citizens get confuse about traffic laws in Cambodia.” He said. In the future, Mr. Kan is not clear yet whether what he can be but his only goal is to teach and share the knowledge about traffic that he got to all everyone.
“ In the next year, the country will develop and traffic on the road will be complicate, so I think that everyone will face with some difficulties while traveling.” He said.

A Day in the life of Blind students
By: Dareth Rosaline
Education is one of the most important things that everyone needs in his/her life. Teacher is the one who plays the important role to educate and give the knowledge to all students not only normal students but also disable students.
On 28th Oct, I went to Blind and Deaf School ,which located in Phnom Penh Thmey district, Sen Sok commune, Phnom Penh in order to meet Miss. Hean Samy, who is a teacher of blind students, to let her share her experience and tell about her daily work at that school.
When I arrived there at 3:15 p.m., I saw many students and all of them are blind, deaf. Then, I went directly to Miss Hean Samey classroom. At that time since she was having a class, I’ve asked her permission sit in the class during her teaching. During that time, I noticed that all blind students were listening and paying attention well to their teacher.
They look like other normal children. They talked and played with their friends and tried their best to communicate to their teacher and friends. According to Miss. Hean Samy, all the blind students are trying as hard as they can to learn and gain knowledge from their teachers.
Miss. Hean Samy, working as a teacher at Krousar Thmey School since 2003. Since she wanted to help the blind students and get experience, she decided to involve herself with Krousar Thmey organization and to become a teacher of blind-students class.
According to Miss. Samy, there was the lack of teacher for blind students and she also wanted to know about the world of blind students, she encouraged herself to work as a teacher the class of blind students. “I want to know how the blind students study and the way they get and improve their knowledge” said Miss. Samy.
Every Monday to Friday she teaches 8 hours a day at Blind and Deaf School. She is specialized in Khmer literature. Mostly she teaches grade 10 students and her students are about 15 years old. According to Miss. Samy, at the first year that she started to teach blind class, there were a few difficulties that she needed to challenge. “At the first time, I couldn’t get used to the class and I didn’t know clearly about the way to teach them, so I tried so hard to learn and find out how can I teach them and make it easy for them to understand like a normal students”. Miss. Samy said. “To let them understand what I had taught them easily, I need to know the weak points of my students and then find a good way for them in order to improve it and learn from it.” She added.
Since all her students are blind, they have the different way of learning unlike the normal students. Miss. Samy explained that for blind students, they read and write in the brail words. For writing, they don’t use pen or pencil but they useslate and sty-lase and for the paper, they can write on every kinds of paper even the printed paper. “They can read and write by their own but it is not the same way like normal students do” Miss. Samy said. Normally blind students write from the right to left and then they read from the left to right. All of them are able to read bases on the point that made by using slate and sty-lase they need to remember the point and they use their hand to touch it and read it word by word.
Miss. Samy noticed that her students has tried their hard to learn, she said she is very glad to teacher and spread the knowledge to them. Nowadays, besides teaching, Miss. Samy is also working as school controller at that school too. In the future, she will stop teaching but working as school controller and going to the provinces to educate the teachers working there in order to let them know clearly about the process of teaching students.

By Dareth Rosaline
How to apply your signature on the documents in computer
Everyone may know that when we write a formal letter, job or scholarships application, for sure you will require signing our signature on that paper. In case that you were asked to put your signature on the document on computer, what are you going to do? I will tell you one ways that you can do it. Firstly, you just sign your signature clearly on a blank piece of paper and then scan that it into your computer. Then you just use Photoshop program using brush tool to draw on your signature that you scanned to make it clearer and look as a real and then save in when you finished. After that, whenever you need to put your signature on your soft document, you just copy the files that you saved and paste it in to the document so you will get you signature on it easy. Doing through this way, I can sign my signature on different types of document or letters.
How to avoid computer affect and Keeping your eyes healthy
In the case that you have to sit in front of computer and use it for long hours, more or less it will give bad affect to your eyes. Anyway, there are many ways that you still can keep your eyes healthy. Firstly, if you are typing or reading the texts or documents, you should enlarge the text. Please magnify the size of the texts until you feel comfortable. Don’t try to force your eyes to read those texts in a small size. Secondly, you should re- position of your screen or monitor. You may feel hard to open your eyes while the light from the screen come straight and bright so one thing you should do is position your screen below eye-level. Thirdly, Work is important but you need to let your eyes relax. You should give your eyes periods of darkness for rest, by closing it. Following those ways, you your eyes will not getting hurt or blur while using computer.
Keeping and saving your documents and photos safety
There are many ways that you can save all your documents and photos as a collection. Most of people may think that when they have their own computer, they may can put and keep all those stuffs in it. In fact, it is right that we can save all the documents and photos in computer but it is not guarantee 100% safe. To me I would recommend you to save those files in External hard disk. Using external hard disk, you can lock up your important files; manage those files in to different categories, date and time as you wish as well as you may feel easy to find those files when u need. You are also can back up all file for your desktop or lap top. Moreover, the data space storage in computer is limited base on their series so we can use external hard drive as additional data storage. The more space you have the more file of documents and photos you can keep and save in it. You should start to get benefit from external hard drive from now on.
Simple way to make your hair become straight
Nowadays, it is very easy to make your hair straight in a minute by just using hair iron machine. It is real that it can make you hair straight whenever you want but the more u do the more you destroy your hair. I have one technique to share with all you guys. It is quite simple but it really helpful. When you are washing your hair, you should comb your hair two or three time. After you finished, you need dry it immediately by using the air from fan or hair dryer machine; during drying you should comb it many time as you can. Why you have to do so? The reason is when your hair still wetting and then you tight or didn’t comb it, your hair will be messy and not in a straight shape at all when it dry. But if you comb it and straighten your hair while it still wetting so after it dries it will straight as you did. I Know that it may take a bit long to do but if you love straight long hair and look bright as well as naturally, please try to do this way rather than using hair iron machine every day.
The technique to keep your laptop battery longer lifespan
Normally, if you all follow the instruction in guide book of computer you will know some tips to keep your laptop battery longer lifespan. At the time you buy a new computer, first you need to make sure that you plug in and charge it as the time that it required. Then one more thing you should care and remember is don’t leaving them plugged in all the time. It is not a good idea to do so because your laptop battery will degrade. One last, please charge it in appropriate time. I meant that try to use your laptop until your battery down to 5 to 10 percentso then you can charge. And if you charge it you have to wait until it completely full by not plug in and plug out again and again while it is charging. I can say that no electronics product will last forever, but if you treat well, your batteryhangs in there for at least two or three years.
