You know what’s the hardest thing? When I liked someone, I always talked to you about it. But now that I like you… I have no one to talk about it to.

People’s words about you are like poison-covered arrows. They can’t pierce your heart if they’re spoken in hiding, but the most immature thing to do is to pick up those arrows that are lying on the ground and pierce your own heart with them, getting shot by arrows you needn’t be shot with, getting wounds you needn’t get.

Love doesn’t need to last a lifetime for it to be real. You can’t judge the quality of a love by the length of time it lasts. Everything dies, love included. Sometimes it dies with a person, sometimes it dies on its own. The greatest love story ever told doesn’t have to be about two people who spent their whole lives together. It might be about a love that lasted two weeks or two months or two years, but burned brighter and hotter and more brilliantly than any other love before or after. Don’t mourn a failed love; there is no such thing. All love is equal in the brain.

What is the difference between a councilor psychologist, psychiatrist, and a therapist? I'm unsure which I should go to.
Hey my dear,
Thank you for asking about this, it does get a little confusing!
A counsellor is someone who has a Masters in psychology or counselling and is qualified to provide counselling and/or psychotherapy. (providing they have 2+ years of experience). I believe most counsellors do not diagnose, they provide talking therapies (which is counselling).
A psychologist is someone who has a doctorate in psychology, which is the study of the mind and behaviours. Licensed psychologists are qualified to undertake counselling and psychotherapy, perform psychological testing, and provide treatment for mental illness. Often, they will work with a psychiatrist who will provide medical treatment while the psychologist provides psychotherapy. They can diagnose you, but cannot write prescriptions.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in preventing, diagnosing and treating mental illness. They differentiate between mental illnesses and physical illnesses which could present with psychiatric symptoms. They also monitor the effects of mental illness on other physical conditions, and the effects of medications on the body. They can diagnose you, and write prescriptions.
A therapist is anyone who is qualified to undertake psychotherapy, I believe. A psychotherapist is also anyone qualified to provide psychotherapy.
(Source)
So, to summarise this information:
Who can diagnose me? A psychologist or psychiatrist. A GP can also diagnose with (mild) depression or anxiety, but nothing more complex.Who can provide me with psychotherapy? A psychiatrist, a psychologist or a counsellor if they have received extensive training, or more than two years’ experience. A person who can provide psychotherapy is also known as a therapist or psychotherapist. This includes CBT. Who can provide me with talking therapies such as counselling? Usually a counsellor, but psychiatrists and psychologists do as well. The types of talking therapy given differ between these. Psychiatrists and psychologists normally provide a therapy such as CBT while counsellors provide counselling by supporting the sufferer with negative thoughts and talking them through. Who can prescribe me with medication? A psychiatrist or another medical professional such as a doctor. A psychologist cannot write a prescription for you.
I am afraid I’m not a qualified medical professional, or qualified in mental health, therefore I cannot advise you regarding who would be best for you to see. In the first instance, please contact your doctor and speak to them about a referral to the appropriate place.
I really hope this helps lovely! 😊 Caitlin x
Edit: A lovely follower reblogged this and added the following information which should help to bring some more clarity and was great information, so I thought I would add this in too! :) All opinions expressed regarding therapists are that of the follower, not of MHA as a whole, but we love to allow followers to help each other so I have included their advice :)
Counselling/psychotherapy are synonymous for each other. They are the same kinds of treatment and both could come in the form of CBT, DBT, Solutions Focus Brief Therapy, and any other form. Counsellors can diagnose but usually do not, as it is not usually beneficial to the client in their situation. If you ever come across someone who is a registered psychotherapist, be a bit wary as these people usually will not have a masters degree. If someone has a masters degree and has the needed experience they will be licensed and usually have a specified such as LPC (Licensed Professional Counsellor) or LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counsellor), LMFT (Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist). There are more than that but they all start with licensed ____.

At least these psychiatrists are focusing on the people who really matter – the fictional ones.
