If you could wield any enchanted weapon, what would it be - and why?
"Mm. Not really much of a weapons purrson. Anything that helps me hunt more efficiently while lessening the pain unto the beasties, I suppose... Oh! A starknife would be nice, come to think of it. I don't imagine I'd ever use it, but... were I ever to find a place to settle in, I should like to make it part of my shrine..."

What kinds of research do you do to improve your skills?
"Well... I've found that speaking with the dead helps me keep things in purrspective. What it's like being undead, how to accurately differentiate a mindless undead from a sentient undead, how to best respect them... For me, the undead are not simple tools to be used and discarded. They're individuals, with their own curiosities and purrsonalities."
Wisps of light dance between her fingers and down her arm as she raises it.
"... Additionally, I read - whatever I can get my hands on. But rarely is my approach to necromancy purrserved in literature. The stigma against the purractice means that such ideas are rarely ever preserved -- much of what you'll find on the art are the more vile purractices, exercised by equally vile men. Still, I think something can be gleamed from such tomes and repurrposed into something kinder, more humane and worthwhile."
Darla gives a soft, wistful smile as she sighs.
"That all being said... my methods of research are really just me grasping at what little I could find and largely just... making it up as I go. I do wish I could find a mentor, to learn from someone who sees the art for what it is as I do -- but I also know I've not the coin for such a thing, not to mention my little one to look after. But rest assured, I'm being careful."

Isn't necromancy inherently evil? I don't think you can be "neutrl good" while enslaving the undead?
The feline snaps the book in her hands shut.
"I don't quite know what you mean by 'neutral good', but... Why is it that when people think of necromancy, they think only to associate it with acts of evil? That only the most vile, cruel necromancers make any sort of mark in history -- have you never questioned this? Spells that infiltrate the mind of and puppeteer living, breathing people are cast with nary a second thought. Dominate purrson. Suggestion. Charm Purrson. Modify Memory. Each meant to overrule an individuals free will, a violation of their very mind -- and yet none are vilified whatsoever..."
She sighs, her shoulders sagging.
"Is it evil to use magic to tend wounds? To communicate with the recently deceased in order to bring them or their loved ones peace, to solve a murder, to gather information? No. No it is not. And as for 'enslaving' the dead... there is nuance to be had. Scholars still debate to this day whether or not all but the most advanced undead maintain any traits, memories or sensibilities they had in life. And beyond that, many of us have such varied methods. I primarily work with animals and simple monsters, and my wards are such that if they do not wish to serve me, they may return to death as they please..."
( Meta/OOC answer under the cut cos I have Thoughts)
-------
Necromancy is one of my favorite subjects in fantasy because there's so much to be done with it. In Pathfinder 2e, I'm pretty sure most (if not all) healing spells fall under the umbrella of necromancy.
Darla faced a lot of scrutiny in a roleplay experience I dropped her in last year; it was interesting (and at times, frustrating) to see how easily vilified a character could be for simply practicing necromancy, regardless of anything else about them or what they do. She went through her entire story without ever so much as engaging in combat and was still derided as being stupid/ignorant at best, or called straight up evil at worst.
It's funny, and interesting, how strongly people feel about necromancy and it's depiction in media. I've been playing Veilguard and loving the angle it's taking on necromancy there (still haven't beaten the game!) - but I know by and large it's still seen as something to be hated.

Starter prompts! For if you need an idea on how to get the ball rolling with Darla, can be used as they are or tweaked in your starting post!
You've heard rumor of a suspected necromancer passing through town recently, accompanied by a large, rotting hound and a small child. Fearful for their own safety, and that of the child, the townsfolk have asked passing adventurers to look into it, providing a description and pointing to the direction they left in.
They say you can find just about anything in Baldurs Gate; so when you find a notice requesting assistance from someone seeking mentorship from an experienced necromancer, it's not surprising. Maybe you decide to show up with the intention of helping out... or maybe you've come to bring this defiler of life to justice, whatever form you decide that takes.
Traveling out on the open road is tough! You've stopped for a rest, but you're out of food. Fortunately, a friendly feline and her adorable daughter have spotted you and offer to share their food with you.
Your travels have brought you to a small Desnan shrine, decorated with flowers and surrounded by butterflies. Someone is praying - a tall feline, accompanied by a small child and... is that a zombie dog?
You were attacked on the road! They managed to knock you out briefly. You come to as they're tripping over themselves running, and see an undead hound standing its ground beside you, protectively. The necromancer who came to your aid stands nearby, her skeletal tome floating ominously as she speaks in tongues... and then snaps the book shut once the bandits are out of sight. She pulls down her hood, and smiles sweetly to you as a little girl peeks out from behind her and waves to you happily.

Munday Meme!
I LIKE TO BE CALLED: Pidge! ( If we're friends and you knew me by Ceej you have special permission to keep calling me that!)
ONE THING YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ME: I have autism+ADHD; combined with my anxiety, muse can be fickle. That being said, I'd never drop a thread without telling you first! If I don't vibe with something, I'll let you know - otherwise, just assume I forgor or my muse is low.
ONE THING YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT RPING WITH MY CHARACTER(S): While I am somewhat familiar with 5e lore, and am learning Pathfinder2e lore, I do play it fast and loose with RP. So apologies if I don't pick up on more obscure lore references/jokes, and don't expect me to 100% adhere to the lore of either ttrpg!
FIRST LANGUAGE: English
AGE RANGE: under 13 | 14–17 | 18–22 | 23–25 | 26–29 | 30+ | 40+ | 70+
I am an old!!! Which is why I don't write with minors, I'd rather my spaces be filled with other adults.
AM I OKAY WITH NSFW?: yes | no | some nsfw.
I'm okay with suggestiveness, dirty talk, flirting, etc! I don't write outright smut due to lack of experience (asexual) but I'm not uncomfy! I just prefer fade to black.
MY FAVORITE / MOST COMMON THING TO RP IS: angst | fluff | smut | crack | action | plots | aus | violence | darker themes
I love angst, violence and darker themes! Cosmic horror is a theme I'd loooove to explore with Darla. That being said, I dislike wangst/when all threads lead to angst and try to keep a balance, and do appreciate fluff to balance things out!
CANON CHARACTER RP FRIENDLY?: yes | no
So long as I'm familiar with the source material, sure!
ORIGINAL CHARACTER RP FRIENDLY?: yes | no
Naturally~!
RP BLOG: does contain ooc posts | doesn’t contain ooc posts | occasionally contains ooc
I try to keep it relevant to the blog/character - you won't find me venting here.

Starter for @fortune-feather! Hope this works, lemme know if you need changes <3
-----------------------
"One bushel of chives, some pepper, salt, a clove of garlic…"
The feline mumbled to herself as she looked between the shopping list in her clawed hand, and the stalls before her. Over her shoulder, she had a string of rabbit pelts for trade. Cleo wasn't tall enough to see over the stalls, and knew better than to reach and grab what mama hadn't paid for yet. She was trying hard to be polite, but that went out the window when she noticed a stranger with a peculiar feathered friend nearby.
She pointed excitedly at it, looking up at the tiefling with a big, goofy grin.
"Hi! I like your bird!"

starter for @bloodtwin ! Lemme know if you need anything changed ♡
-----------------------
"Oh, I am so very sorry!" The feline had bumped into the stranger in the crowded streets; she hadn't been paying attention and walked right into them. While she wasn't especially short, she was built like a twig -- and still, she fussed over having potentially harmed the other.
"I didn't hurt you, did I?"

tagged by: No one, I stole it <3 Ramblings about Darla under the cut
While it won't come up this early in her development, wrath has been Darla's downfall in her every iteration. It's her biggest defining flaw -- she's a sweet woman, she had a kind and gentle heart... but she's also very open, too trusting, too much faith in the world and not enough wariness to keep herself safe. It's always bitten her in the ass one way or another.
In the best outcomes, she goes through with her revenge upon those who hurt her, lives with the consequences, and makes peace with a side of herself she'd been afraid of. She burns bridges, but learns that it's okay to say no, it's okay to stand up for yourself, and that sometimes you have to bear your claws and fight -- if not for yourself, then for those who depend on you. She chooses kindness still, but like. Desna said knock you out.
At worst, she continues burying her outrage, her hurt, letting it all fester in a bitter cocktail that notably effects her mental health, turning her paranoid, miserable and prone to fits of mania.
Darla is a character whose journey sees her either learning to value and stand up for herself and roll with the punches, or finds herself broken by a world that will not soften its blows for her.
#I took the stars from my eyes and then made a map (about Darla)#No dawn; no day; I'm always in this twilight (memes)
