AGES Superstars

A group of miscellaneous characters based on the wider AGES catalogue. AGES, of course, being the publishers of Zip the Pooch. Obviously.

Less of an actual team and more just characters that fit a certain theme I wanted to challenge myself to complete. Most of the references should be pretty obvious to the people who know, but just in case...

Stars is a reference to the main character from NiGHTS into Dreams. A flying jester, they probably get up to just as much trouble as Zip and his friends, just in a different style of adventure. I'll be honest, I know very little about Nights, basically all I know is from SRB2 (which has told me I do NOT like the general gameplay of the series lmao) but I couldn't so a Sega reference team and not reference Nights. They are the most obvious choice.

Jin and Shen are a reference to the Yakuza and Shenmue series respectively. Jin is an enforcer for the local crime scene in the dragon kingdom, who Princess Abby may or may not utilize the services of from time to time, and Shen is his adopted son who is looking to become as cool and strong as his protector. Yakuza and Shenmue occupy a similar space in my brain as Sega-owned crime drama games, and since Kiryu isn't complete without a ward to look after, this seemed like a fun way to fit two references into one slot.

Marlow is a reference to the Puyo Puyo series! She's a cow with the power to bring her spots to life, letting them leap off of her to create obstacles for her enemies. Arle is another character I don't know a lot about, but the idea I got to turn the Puyo tokens(?) into diegetic parts of this character was too good to pass up.

Last but not least is Turn the Crow, a reference to Beat from the Jet Set Radio series, the one Sega property I value more than Sonic. (Get it? Turn like... like Turnip? Beat? Turnip? Hahhaa) Turn is a no good ruffian that Sophia Deville calls on to do some of her lesser bidding when Egg Head and Zap are too busy with their own stuff. He skates, he tags, he crimes, all the cool stuff from Jet Set Radio that one should aspire to. He deserves better than minion status, but who'd be able to help with that, I wonder?

I realize I'm making a bunch of characters without much to use them for, but this is a project for fun so I get to do whatever I want. :P I hope you enjoy

Breadroll the Chao:

Breadroll is Eggs the Hedgehog's pet chao! They're a sweet little thing, never straying far from Eggs but always manages to find something to stick her nose into. She's a little clumsy while flying, but they're especially strong, and love to bat things around, especially apples, much to Egg's dismay (he spent a lot of money on chao toys).

Rocket the Lab Rat:

The science experiment/hired muscle of a certain evil scientist, was defeated by the hero only to grow enamored with his heroism, joining his side as his sidekick and mechanic. She still retains her skepticism and sarcasm from her days of villainy, and maybe one or two violent urges, but she's got her heart in the right place.

Okay this one will need some explanation

There are various 'badniks turned ally' characters across the sonic series, some in some pretty important rolls, but I made the drastic change in Zipverse to make Egg Head's whole deal bio-engineering instead of robotics. So her minions would all be clones and mutants, not robots and mechas. This adds a bit of complexity to iterating on characters that are all function-over-form robots, so I did... my best?

Specimen I292 Leo is the Gamma counterpart, a slime creature wearing some Egg-Grade armor and wielding two pistols. With tank tread skates, they'd probably play closer to Rollerdrome than to Sonic Adventure 1, but their role in the world is about the same. They may not be able to martyr themself in the same way E102 did, but they'll do the right thing in the end even if it's hard.

Basilisk was a failed experiment that got locked up in a cave for nearly two decades, making them the E123 Omega analog. Friends to whoever and whatever lets them destroy as much Egg Head tech as possible, their status as anti-hero is a bit more blurred than Omega's on account of the mutants in Egg Head's army being... you know, organic life? Zip might have a hard time dealing with that one.

And, you know, I don't think anyone would've faulted me for excluding Bomb and Heavy from the fan remake treatment. They'd been more or less completely forgotten by the fanbase as a whole until... like, last week when they were made playable in Sonic Robo Blast 2. Seriously, check them out, they are SO much fun. Because of that mod alone, I am now endeared to the mechanics of the past, so Shield and Speedy were created to pay them homage. Maybe they'll hang around Team DiZorder here and there, or maybe they'll be off on their own adventures. Only the future will tell.

Making this in an attempt to entice people to get Rocket the last few votes she needs in @sonic-oc-showdown, but also to let people over there know I have a lot more characters to talk about if they like Sonic and Sonic-adjacent OCs! If you liked Rocket, might as well come and meet some of her friends and enemies! And... whatever Mix counts as.
