What I find especially fascinating while walking through Thebes in the early morning is the dramatic coloring of the Theban mountains combined with the complete stillness. Interestingly, the ancient Egyptian goddess of this area, Meretseger “She who loves silence”, was probably named in reference to the quietness of the desert necropolis.
