Hmm. So I'm 36, and have been married for a decade. I'm pretty severely disabled, have known i'm infertile since I was 14, and am ace (not aro.) Maybe being ace and thus not really having the nerves about peoples' hotness is the special sauce here, but I've genuinely never viewed any elements of my disability and infertility as anything that hampered my value in the dating market, and people into me never reacted that way either. I'm hot, smart, and interesting- end of story. I've been treated accordingly. I'm popping into your inbox not to brag or tell you to grow some self esteem or anything, but because I think seeing 'success' from people older who have lived the thing you're nervous about right now is useful sometimes. I got here from jayvic (love them) and suspect you're underestimating a bit how common great people are who won't factor in your infertility when they think about you beyond how it impacts YOU.

Thank you for sharing this. I’ve been stuck in a very conservative place my entire life. It’s not a small town, but a lot of the people that come here or live here hold the same conservative values. I’ve struggled to find romantic connections here. I think moving away would certainly increase my chances of finding likeminded people that wouldn’t dismiss me over my perceived shortcomings. I used to dream of running away to another country in pursuit of better healthcare and a social safety net, not having to worry about being buried in medical debt. I’ve since given up on that dream because I’m stuck here, trying to finish my degree and save a pittance from my severely underpaid jobs.

I’m not sure about your personal situation’s details, but I wonder if there are men that want to date women like me. It feels like there’s plenty of women that would, which would be great if I wanted to be with a woman! But I don’t. It feels like men don’t want me unless they can’t have a “normal” woman. Every man I’ve considered was either severely insecure and took it out on me, abusive, used me for food/shelter, tried to pimp me, or was extremely controlling. Sometimes a mix. It really sucks, because anytime I find someone decent, they want to have biological children and see me as disposable. It really just makes me wonder if men are wired fundamentally different from women and if men can’t comprehend something more than reproduction.
