Project 5: Wayfinding Signage
Project 5: Wayfinding Signage
In this project you will be designing a new wayfinding system for an Ohio or Western Pennsylvania community of your choice. Â
Guidelines:
5 signs guiding traffic to destination venues (size is your choice)
5 regular street signs (size is your choice)
2 ‘welcome’ signs/displays (size is your choice)
1 billboard design (printed on 11x17 maximum)
You will need to print out a maximum of 3 signs: 1 venue sign, 1 street sign, 1 welcome sign, and 1 billboard.
You will need to photograph your printed signs in appropriate areas in your chosen community – these photographs act as context and help determine the feasibility of your design solution.
Each sign will need to be mocked-up in a Photoshop document featuring a photo of your chosen street/community. Multiple signs can be featured in a single photo, but keep it realistic. Â
Your designs must have perfect spelling.
All measurements must be correct.
Craftsmanship must be as close to perfect as you can achieve.
Full-bleeds are optional.
Your prints must be full color.
Your prints cannot be assembled out of several sheets of paper unless you are using a die-cut.
You will need to build a template for each sign and print it on a high-format printer.
All files must be in a .zip file and uploaded to Dropbox. E-Mail me download link ONLY, no shared folders.
You are only limited by your imagination, technical limits, and finances.

Project 1: Maag Book Cover
Guidelines:
• You will be selecting a book from the Maag Library to redesign.
• Your finished design will replace the cover of that book in the library.
• You will need to provide a finished print built to the specifications of the book and Library Director [where advised]
• Please choose a book cover that really needs redesigned.
• You must read the book. You can choose any topic you like.
• Please know that your books may travel to different libraries throughout Ohio.
• Your designs must have perfect spelling.
• All measurements must be correct.
• Craftsmanship must be as close to perfect as you can achieve.
• Print size is optional.
• Full-bleeds are necessary.
• You must include all content featured on the front and back cover, inside and backside flaps.
• You will NOT be designing any of the book interiors.
• You must get a photo of your finished book in the Library [presentation style]
• Finished books will be featured in a micro-exhibition in the Library.
• Your prints must be full color.
• Your prints cannot be assembled out of several sheets of paper unless you are using a die-cut.

Project 2: Social Cause Infographic Poster
You will be designing an infographic based on a social cause in Youngstown. Your final design will be paired with an advertising campaign in Project 3. Both Project 2 and 3 will be featured publicly throughout the City of Youngstown and in a micro-exhibition with a venue to be determined. Â
Printing for this project is supported by the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, Puffin Foundation West, and the City of Youngstown.
Guidelines:
• You can choose any topic you like.
• Choose a topic based on a Youngstown social issue that has plenty of data.
• You must thoroughly research your subject. Submit research notes.
• Your designs must have perfect spelling.
• All measurements must be correct.
• Craftsmanship must be as close to perfect as you can achieve.
• Print size is optional.
• Full-bleeds are necessary.
• You must get a photo of your finished poster somewhere in the City
• Finished posters will be featured in a micro-exhibition, venue TBD.
• Your prints must be full color.
• Your prints cannot be assembled out of several sheets of paper unless you are using a die-cut.
• The ‘City of You’ logo, CFMV, and Puffin logos must be present on your posters.
• You will need to build a template for the poster and print it on a high-format printer.
• All files must be in a .zip file and uploaded to Dropbox. E-Mail me download link ONLY, no shared folders.

Project 3: Social Cause Campaign
You will be designing an advertising campaign based on the social cause issue you chose for your infographic. You cannot switch topics. Both Project 2 and 3 will be featured publicly throughout the City of Youngstown and in a micro-exhibition with a venue to be determined. Â

You will be designing a corporate identity package for a real company or non-profit organization (located regionally) that needs a new logo.
Guidelines:
• Business Card: 3.5 inches W x 2 inches V [or flipped if vertical]
• Letterhead: 8.5x11
• Rack Card: 8.5 X 4.25
• Envelope: #10 envelopes, 4 1/8" by 9 1/2
• Full-bleeds are optional.
• You must get a photo of your finished work (presentation style)
• Your prints must be full color.
• Your prints cannot be assembled out of several sheets of paper unless you are using a die-cut.
• You will need to build a template for the business cards, letterhead, rack card, and envelope. Printing technology choice is based on your research.

• You must submit a 2-page maximum written document detailing your observations of community walking paths, traffic patterns, community design.
• You will be creating a new brand identity for the community of your choice.
• You must choose a viable color scheme for your branding and signage.
• You will be designing the following:
