WARNINGS FOR: pregnancy.

do you guys ever think about how like. genuinely terrifying her pregnancy and alina's childhood could have been for aphmau?? LIKE let's pretend the world was falling apart around her (politically, personally, existentially): yeah, aphmau had three kids before then, two of which she'd had since they were very little, but she had way more help then. she had a LITERAL village helping her out with levin, and the main gang (especially aaron) aiding her with lilith.

but alina is the first child aphmau was pregnant with, and she went through it mostly alone (after aaron's death, laurance's departure, and garroth being distant). there are so many things she's never experienced before?? nausea, feet swelling, back aches, changing senses, etc.? not to mention the political ramifications of the famous lord of phoenix drop having a child out of wedlock and then being widowed (WHICH probably isn't as much of an issue in canon!diaries as much as it is in my rewrite, since i focus on misogyny).

also like. i feel like levin and lilith were young, yes, but not NEWBORNS. in my head, they were probably 6 months old MINIMUM. aphmau created a baby from scratch, which she's never done, went through all the motions alone, and then had to work through motherhood from a day old baby to a three year old toddler.

Ya they have plot holes and unfinished story lines and a confusing transition from slice of life to fantasy adventure in MyS. BUT ITS THEIR SERIES‼️‼️ ONE THAT WAS MADE A DECADE AGO AND IS REPRESENTATIVE OF THAT TIME MIND YOU‼️‼️ that’s not to excuse any of the problematic stuff. But at least they’ve made an effort to fix their mistakes?? The way that Rebecca Sugar writes plot twists and handles mysteries is really, really good. In this essay i will… actually explain

See, Rebecca picks reasonable, almost obvious answers to a plot mysteries. Example: Is Steven Pink Diamond? Answer: No, he’s himself. Pink is gone. It’s seems clear and makes sense and that’s the point. On top of that, it’s the most thematically powerful answer.

But it’s step two that’s the important part. She makes the viewer doubt themselves. Steven’s dreams leading up to this point, every homeworld gem telling calling him rose quartz/pink over and over.. It’s not objective evidence, but it gets to you, just like it got to Steven. And when it’s objectively proven that steven is his own person, you feel like you’ve been through that journey with him, because he’s been having the same thoughts as you. 

It makes you feel so good to be right

People get angry at Rebecca because they theorise completely contrived, rediculous answers to her mysteries. They’re so obsessed with the answer being ‘unpredictable’ that they forget to make the answer have narrative and thematic sense. Apparently it’s her fault when their theories aren’t proven.

But she’s not phased. Rebecca picks the most elegant and fitting answers and doesn’t care how ‘predictable’ they are. Then she tries very hard to hide them. Hiding something obvious like that is an art. That’s what makes it so good
